Diabetes is a persistent metabolic disorder linked to elevated levels of blood glucose, commonly referred to as blood sugar. This condition can have detrimental effects on the heart, blood vessels, eyes, kidneys, and nerves as time passes. It is a chronic ailment that arises when the body fails to produce enough insulin or is unable to effectively use the insulin it produces. When diabetes is not properly managed, it often leads to hyperglycemia, a condition characterized by elevated blood sugar levels or impaired glucose tolerance. This can result in significant harm to various body systems, including the nerves and blood vessels. In this paper, we propose a multiclass diabetes mellitus detection and classification approach using an extremely imbalanced Laboratory of Medical City Hospital data dynamics. We also formulate a new dataset that is moderately imbalanced based on the Laboratory of Medical City Hospital data dynamics. To correctly identify the multiclass diabetes mellitus, we employ three machine learning classifiers namely support vector machine, logistic regression, and k-nearest neighbor. We also focus on dimensionality reduction (feature selection—filter, wrapper, and embedded method) to prune the unnecessary features and to scale up the classification performance. To optimize the classification performance of classifiers, we tune the model by hyperparameter optimization with 10-fold grid search cross-validation. In the case of the original extremely imbalanced dataset with 70:30 partition and support vector machine classifier, we achieved maximum accuracy of 0.964, precision of 0.968, recall of 0.964, F1-score of 0.962, Cohen kappa of 0.835, and AUC of 0.99 by using top 4 feature according to filter method. By using the top 9 features according to wrapper-based sequential feature selection, the k-nearest neighbor provides an accuracy of 0.935 and 1.0 for the other performance metrics. For our created moderately imbalanced dataset with an 80:20 partition, the SVM classifier achieves a maximum accuracy of 0.938, and 1.0 for other performance metrics. Malaria is the most common cause of death among the parasitic diseases. Malaria continues to pose a growing threat to the public health and economic growth of nations in the tropical and subtropical parts of the world. This study aims to address this challenge by developing a predictive model for malaria outbreaks in each district of The Gambia, leveraging historical meteorological data. To achieve this objective, we employ and compare the performance of eight machine learning algorithms, including C5.0 decision trees, artificial neural networks, k-nearest neighbors, support vector machines with linear and radial kernels, logistic regression, extreme gradient boosting, and random forests. The models are evaluated using 10-fold cross-validation during the training phase, repeated five times to ensure robust validation. Our findings reveal that extreme gradient boosting and decision trees exhibit the highest prediction accuracy on the testing set, achieving 93.3% accuracy, followed closely by random forests with 91.5% accuracy. In contrast, the support vector machine with a linear kernel performs less favorably, showing a prediction accuracy of 84.8% and underperforming in specificity analysis. In recent years, researchers have proven the effectiveness and speediness of machine learning-based cancer diagnosis models. However, it is difficult to explain the results generated by machine learning models, especially ones that utilized complex high-dimensional data like RNA sequencing data. In this study, we propose the binarilization technique as a novel way to treat RNA sequencing data and used it to construct explainable cancer prediction models. We tested our proposed data processing technique on five different models, namely neural network, random forest, xgboost, support vector machine, and decision tree, using four cancer datasets collected from the National Cancer Institute Genomic Data Commons. Since our datasets are imbalanced, we evaluated the performance of all models using metrics designed for imbalance performance like geometric mean, Matthews correlation coefficient, F-Measure, and area under the receiver operating characteristic curve. Our approach showed comparative performance while relying on less features. Additionally, we demonstrated that data binarilization offers higher explainability by revealing how each feature affects the prediction. Winter wheat is one of the most important crops in the world. It is great significance to obtain the planting area of winter wheat timely and accurately for formulating agricultural policies. Due to the limited resolution of single SAR data and the susceptibility of single optical data to weather conditions, it is difficult to accurately obtain the planting area of winter wheat using only SAR or optical data. To solve the problem of low accuracy of winter wheat extraction only using optical or SAR images, a decision tree classification method combining time series SAR backscattering feature and NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) was constructed in this paper. By synergy using of SAR and optical data can compensate for their respective shortcomings. First, winter wheat was distinguished from other vegetation by NDVI at the maturity stage, and then it was extracted by SAR backscattering feature. This approach facilitates the semi-automated extraction of winter wheat. Taking Yucheng City of Shandong Province as study area, 9 Sentinel-1 images and one Sentinel-2 image were taken as the data sources, and the spatial distribution of winter wheat in 2022 was obtained. The results indicate that the overall accuracy (OA) and kappa coefficient (Kappa) of the proposed method are 96.10% and 0.94, respectively. Compared with the supervised classification of multi-temporal composite pseudocolor image and single Sentinel-2 image using Support Vector Machine (SVM) classifier, the OA are improved by 10.69% and 5.66%, respectively. Compared with using only SAR feature for decision tree classification, the producer accuracy (PA) and user accuracy (UA) for extracting the winter wheat are improved by 3.08% and 8.25%, respectively. Background: The global evolution of pre-hospital care systems faces dynamic challenges, particularly in multinational settings. Machine learning (ML) techniques enable the exploration of deeply embedded data patterns for improved patient care and resource optimisation. This study's objective was to accurately predict cases that necessitated transportation versus those that did not, using ML techniques, thereby facilitating efficient resource allocation. Methods: ML algorithms were utilised to predict patient transport decisions in a Middle Eastern national pre-hospital emergency medical care provider. A comprehensive dataset comprising 93,712 emergency calls from the 999-call centre was analysed using R programming language. Demographic and clinical variables were incorporated to enhance predictive accuracy. Random Forest (RF), Support Vector Machine (SVM), Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost), and Adaptive Boosting (AdaBoost) algorithms were trained and validated. Results: All the trained algorithm models, particularly XGBoost (Accuracy = 83.1%), correctly predicted patients' transportation decisions. Further, they indicated statistically significant patterns that could be leveraged for targeted resource deployment. Moreover, the specificity rates were high; 97.96% in RF and 95.39% in XGBoost, minimising the incidence of incorrectly identified "Transported" cases (False Positive). Conclusion: The study identified the transformative potential of ML algorithms in enhancing the quality of pre-hospital care in Qatar. The high predictive accuracy of the employed models suggested actionable avenues for day and time-specific resource planning and patient triaging, thereby having potential to contribute to pre-hospital quality, safety, and value improvement. After adopting a combined approach of data-driven methods and machine learning, the prediction of material performance and the optimization of composition design can significantly reduce the development time of materials at a lower cost. In this research, we employed four machine learning algorithms, including linear regression, ridge regression, support vector regression, and backpropagation neural networks, to develop predictive models for the electrical performance data of titanium alloys. Our focus was on two key objectives: resistivity and the temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR). Subsequently, leveraging the results of feature selection, we conducted an analysis to discern the impact of alloying elements on these two electrical properties.The prediction results indicate that for the resistivity data prediction task, the radial basis function kernel-based support vector machine model performs the best, with a correlation coefficient above 0.995 and a percentage error within 2%, demonstrating high predictive capability. For the TCR data prediction task, the best-performing model is a backpropagation neural network with two hidden layers, also with a correlation coefficient above 0.995 and a percentage error within 3%, demonstrating good generalization ability. The feature selection results using random forest and Xgboost indicate that Al and Zr have a significant positive effect on resistivity, while Al, Zr, and V have a significant negative effect on TCR. The conclusion of the composition optimization design suggests that to achieve both high resistivity and TCR, it is recommended to set the Al content in the range of 1.5% to 2% and the Zr content in the range of 2.5% to 3%. To investigate the interplay among technological innovation, industrial structure, production methodologies, economic growth, and environmental consequences within the paradigm of a green economy and to put forth strategies for sustainable development, this study scrutinizes the limitations inherent in conventional deep learning networks. Firstly, this study analyzes the limitations and optimization strategies of multi-layer perceptron (MLP) networks under the background of the green economy. Secondly, the MLP network model is optimized, and the dynamic analysis of the impact of technological innovation on the digital economy is discussed. Finally, the effectiveness of the optimization model is verified by experiments. Moreover, a sustainable development strategy based on dynamic analysis is also proposed. The experimental results reveal that, in comparison to traditional Linear Regression (LR), Decision Tree (DT), Random Forest (RF), Support Vector Machine (SVM), and Naive Bayes (NB) models, the optimized model in this study demonstrates improved performance across various metrics. With a sample size of 500, the optimized model achieves a prediction accuracy of 97.2% for forecasting future trends, representing an average increase of 14.6%. Precision reaches 95.4%, reflecting an average enhancement of 19.2%, while sensitivity attains 84.1%, with an average improvement of 11.8%. The mean absolute error is only 1.16, exhibiting a 1.4 reduction compared to traditional models and confirming the effectiveness of the optimized model in prediction. In the examination of changes in industrial structure using 2020 data to forecast the output value of traditional and green industries in 2030, it is observed that the output value of traditional industries is anticipated to decrease, with an average decline of 11.4 billion yuan. Conversely, propelled by the development of the digital economy, the output value of green industries is expected to increase, with an average growth of 23.4 billion yuan. This shift in industrial structure aligns with the principles and trends of the green economy, further promoting sustainable development. In the study of innovative production methods, the green industry has achieved an increase in output and significantly enhanced production efficiency, showing an average growth of 2.135 million tons compared to the average in 2020. Many individual studies in the literature observed the superiority of tree-based machine learning (ML) algorithms. However, the current body of literature lacks statistical validation of this superiority. This study addresses this gap by employing five ML algorithms on 200 open-access datasets from a wide range of research contexts to statistically confirm the superiority of tree-based ML algorithms over their counterparts. Specifically, it examines two tree-based ML (Decision tree and Random forest) and three non-tree-based ML (Support vector machine, Logistic regression and k-nearest neighbour) algorithms. Results from paired-sample t-tests show that both tree-based ML algorithms reveal better performance than each non-tree-based ML algorithm for the four ML performance measures (accuracy, precision, recall and F1 score) considered in this study, each at p<0.001 significance level. This performance superiority is consistent across both the model development and test phases. This study also used paired-sample t-tests for the subsets of the research datasets from disease prediction (66) and university-ranking (50) research contexts for further validation. The observed superiority of the tree-based ML algorithms remains valid for these subsets. Tree-based ML algorithms significantly outperformed non-tree-based algorithms for these two research contexts for all four performance measures. The tear strength of textiles is a crucial characteristic of product quality. However, during the laboratory testing of this indicator, factors such as equipment operation, human intervention, and test environment can significantly influence the results. Currently, there is a lack of traceable records for the influencing factors during the testing process, and effective classification of testing activities is not achieved. Therefore, this study proposes a state-awareness and classification approach for fabric tear performance testing based on multi-source data. A systematic design is employed for fabric tear performance testing activities, which can real-time monitor electrical parameters, operational environment, and operator behavior. The data are collected, preprocessed, and a Decision Tree Support Vector Machine (DTSVM) is utilized for classifying various working states, and introducing ten-fold cross-validation to enhance the performance of the classifier, forming a comprehensive awareness of the testing activities. Experimental results demonstrate that the system effectively perceives fabric tear performance testing processes, exhibiting high accuracy in the classification of different fabric testing states, surpassing 98.73%. Spectral collinearity and limited spectral datasets are the problems influencing Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) modeling. To address the first problem and obtain optimal modeling range, the spectra are preprocessed using six methods including Standard Normal Variate, Savitzky-Golay Smoothing Filtering (SG) etc. Subsequently, the 190–350 nm spectral range is divided into 10 subintervals, and Interval Partial Least Squares (IPLS) is used to perform PLS modeling on each interval. The results indicate that it is best modeled in the 7th range (238~253 nm). The values of Mean Square Error (MSE), Mean Absolute Error (MAE) and R2score of the model without pretreatment are 1.6489, 1.0661, and 0.9942. After pretreatment, the SG is better than others, with MSE and MAE decreasing to 1.4727, 1.0318 and R2score improving to 0.9944. Using the optimal model, the predicted COD for three samples are 10.87 mg/L, 14.88 mg/L, and 19.29 mg/L. To address the problem of the small dataset, using Generative Adversarial Networks for data augmentation, three datasets are obtained for Support Vector Machine (SVM) modeling. The results indicate that, compared to the original dataset, the SVM's MSE and MAE have decreased, while its accuracy has improved by 2.88%, 11.53%, and 11.53%, and the R2score has improved by 18.07%, 17.40%, and 18.74%. Software development effort estimation (SDEE) is recognized as vital activity for effective project management since under or over estimating can lead to unsuccessful utilization of project resources. Machine learning (ML) algorithms are largely contributing in SDEE domain, particularly ensemble effort estimation (EEE) works well in rectifying bias and subjectivity to solo ML learners. Performance of EEE significantly depends on hyperparameter composition as well as weight assignment mechanism of solo learners. However, in EEE domain, impact of optimization in terms of hyperparameter tunning as well as weight assignment is explored by few researchers. This study aims in improving SDEE performance by incorporating metaheuristic hyperparameter and weight optimization in EEE, which enables accuracy and diversity to the ensemble model. The study proposed Metaheuristic-optimized Multi-dimensional bagging scheme and Weighted Ensemble (MoMdbWE) approach. This is achieved by proposed search space division and hyperparameter optimization method named as Multi-dimensional bagging (Mdb). Metaheuristic algorithm considered for this work is Firefly algorithm (FFA), to get best hyperparameters of three base ML algorithms (Random Forest, Support vector machine and Deep Neural network) since FFA has shown promising results of fitness in terms of MAE. Further enhancement in performance is achieved by incorporating FFA-based weight optimization to construct Metaheuristic-optimized weighted ensemble (MoWE) of individual multi-dimensional bagging schemes. Proposed scheme is implemented on eight frequently utilized effort estimation datasets and results are evaluated by 5 error metrices (MAE, RMSE, MMRE, MdMRE, Pred), standard accuracy and effect size along with Wilcox statistical test. Findings confirmed that the use of FFA optimization for hyperparameter (with search space sub-division) and for ensemble weights, has significantly enhanced performance in comparison with individual base algorithms as well as other homogeneous and heterogenous EEE techniques. Numerous classification and regression problems have extensively used Support Vector Machines (SVMs). However, the SVM approach is less practical for large datasets because of its processing cost. This is primarily due to the requirement of optimizing a quadratic programming problem to determine the decision boundary during training. As a result, methods for selecting data instances that have a better likelihood of being chosen as support vectors by the SVM algorithm have been developed to help minimize the bulk of training data. This paper presents a density-based method, called Density-based Border Identification (DBI), in addition to four different variations of the method, for the lessening of the SVM training data through the extraction of a layer of border instances. For higher-dimensional datasets, the extraction is performed on lower-dimensional embeddings obtained by Uniform Manifold Approximation and Projection (UMAP), and the resulting subset can be repetitively used for SVM training in higher dimensions. Experimental findings on different datasets, such as Banana, USPS, and Adult9a, have shown that the best-performing variations of the proposed method effectively reduced the size of the training data and achieved acceptable training and prediction speedups while maintaining an adequate classification accuracy compared to training on the original dataset. These results, as well as comparisons to a selection of related state-of-the-art methods from the literature, such as Border Point extraction based on Locality-Sensitive Hashing (BPLSH), Clustering-Based Convex Hull (CBCH), and Shell Extraction (SE), suggest that our proposed methods are effective and potentially useful. Background and objective: Glioblastoma (GBM) is one of the most aggressive and lethal human cancers. Intra-tumoral genetic heterogeneity poses a significant challenge for treatment. Biopsy is invasive, which motivates the development of non-invasive, MRI-based machine learning (ML) models to quantify intra-tumoral genetic heterogeneity for each patient. This capability holds great promise for enabling better therapeutic selection to improve patient outcome. Methods: We proposed a novel Weakly Supervised Ordinal Support Vector Machine (WSO-SVM) to predict regional genetic alteration status within each GBM tumor using MRI. WSO-SVM was applied to a unique dataset of 318 image-localized biopsies with spatially matched multiparametric MRI from 74 GBM patients. The model was trained to predict the regional genetic alteration of three GBM driver genes (EGFR, PDGFRA and PTEN) based on features extracted from the corresponding region of five MRI contrast images. For comparison, a variety of existing ML algorithms were also applied. Classification accuracy of each gene were compared between the different algorithms. The SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) method was further applied to compute contribution scores of different contrast images. Finally, the trained WSO-SVM was used to generate prediction maps within the tumoral area of each patient to help visualize the intra-tumoral genetic heterogeneity. Results: WSO-SVM achieved 0.80 accuracy, 0.79 sensitivity, and 0.81 specificity for classifying EGFR; 0.71 accuracy, 0.70 sensitivity, and 0.72 specificity for classifying PDGFRA; 0.80 accuracy, 0.78 sensitivity, and 0.83 specificity for classifying PTEN; these results significantly outperformed the existing ML algorithms. Using SHAP, we found that the relative contributions of the five contrast images differ between genes, which are consistent with findings in the literature. The prediction maps revealed extensive intra-tumoral region-to-region heterogeneity within each individual tumor in terms of the alteration status of the three genes. Conclusions: This study demonstrated the feasibility of using MRI and WSO-SVM to enable non-invasive prediction of intra-tumoral regional genetic alteration for each GBM patient, which can inform future adaptive therapies for individualized oncology. This paper presents a novel sound event detection (SED) system for rare events occurring in an open environment. Wavelet multiresolution analysis (MRA) is used to decompose the input audio clip of 30 seconds into five levels. Wavelet denoising is then applied on the third and fifth levels of MRA to filter out the background. Significant transitions, which may represent the onset of a rare event, are then estimated in these two levels by combining the peak-finding algorithm with the K-medoids clustering algorithm. The small portions of one-second duration, called 'chunks' are cropped from the input audio signal corresponding to the estimated locations of the significant transitions. Features from these chunks are extracted by the wavelet scattering network (WSN) and are given as input to a support vector machine (SVM) classifier, which classifies them. The proposed SED framework produces an error rate comparable to the SED systems based on convolutional neural network (CNN) architecture. Also, the proposed algorithm is computationally efficient and lightweight as compared to deep learning models, as it has no learnable parameter. It requires only a single epoch of training, which is 5, 10, 200, and 600 times lesser than the models based on CNNs and deep neural networks (DNNs), CNN with long short-term memory (LSTM) network, convolutional recurrent neural network (CRNN), and CNN respectively. The proposed model neither requires concatenation with previous frames for anomaly detection nor any additional training data creation needed for other comparative deep learning models. It needs to check almost 360 times fewer chunks for the presence of rare events than the other baseline systems used for comparison in this paper. Major depressive disorder (MDD), a prevalent mental health issue, affects more than 8% of the US population, and almost 17% in the young group of 18–25 years old. Since Covid-19, its prevalence has become even more significant. However, the remission (being free of depression) rates of first-line antidepressant treatments on MDD are only about 30%. To improve treatment outcomes, researchers have built various predictive models for treatment responses and yet none of them have been adopted in clinical use. One reason is that most predictive models are based on data from subjective questionnaires, which are less reliable. Neuroimaging data are promising objective prognostic factors, but they are expensive to obtain and hence predictive models using neuroimaging data are limited and such studies were usually in small scale (N<100). In this paper, we proposed an advanced machine learning (ML) pipeline for small training dataset with large number of features. We implemented multiple imputation for missing data and repeated K-fold cross validation (CV) to robustly estimate predictive performances. Different feature selection methods and stacking methods using 6 general ML models including random forest, gradient boosting decision tree, XGBoost, penalized logistic regression, support vector machine (SVM), and neural network were examined to evaluate the model performances. All predictive models were compared using model performance metrics such as accuracy, balanced accuracy, area under ROC curve (AUC), sensitivity and specificity. Our proposed ML pipeline was applied to a training dataset and obtained an accuracy and AUC above 0.80. But such high performance failed while applying our ML pipeline using an external validation dataset from the EMBARC study which is a multi-center study. Alzheimer's disease is the most prevalent form of dementia, which is a gradual condition that begins with mild memory loss and progresses to difficulties communicating and responding to the environment. Recent advancements in neuroimaging techniques have resulted in large-scale multimodal neuroimaging data, leading to an increased interest in using deep learning for the early diagnosis and automated classification of Alzheimer's disease. This study uses machine learning (ML) methods to determine the severity level of Alzheimer's disease using MRI images, where the dataset consists of four levels of severity. A hybrid of 12 feature extraction methods is used to diagnose Alzheimer's disease severity, and six traditional machine learning methods are applied, including decision tree, K-nearest neighbor, linear discrimination analysis, Naïve Bayes, support vector machine, and ensemble learning methods. During training, optimization is performed to obtain the best solution for each classifier. Additionally, a CNN model is trained using a machine learning system algorithm to identify specific patterns. The accuracy of the Naïve Bayes, Support Vector Machines, K-nearest neighbor, Linear discrimination classifier, Decision tree, Ensembled learning, and presented CNN architecture are 67.5%, 72.3%, 74.5%, 65.6%, 62.4%, 73.8% and, 95.3%, respectively. The standard whale algorithm is prone to suboptimal results and inefficiencies in high-dimensional search spaces. Therefore, examining the whale optimization algorithm components is critical. The computer-generated initial populations often exhibit an uneven distribution in the solution space, leading to low diversity. We propose a fusion of this algorithm with a discrete recombinant evolutionary strategy to enhance initialization diversity. We conduct simulation experiments and compare the proposed algorithm with the original WOA on thirteen benchmark test functions. Simulation experiments on unimodal or multimodal benchmarks verified the better performance of the proposed RESHWOA, such as accuracy, minimum mean, and low standard deviation rate. Furthermore, we performed two data reduction techniques, Bhattacharya distance and signal-to-noise ratio. Support Vector Machine (SVM) excels in dealing with high-dimensional datasets and numerical features. When users optimize the parameters, they can significantly improve the SVM's performance, even though it already works well with its default settings. We applied RESHWOA and WOA methods on six microarray cancer datasets to optimize the SVM parameters. The exhaustive examination and detailed results demonstrate that the new structure has addressed WOA's main shortcomings. Background: Cancer diagnosis based on machine learning has become a popular application direction. Support vector machine (SVM), as a classical machine learning algorithm, has been widely used in cancer diagnosis because of its advantages in high-dimensional and small sample data. However, due to the high-dimensional feature space and high feature redundancy of gene expression data, SVM faces the problem of poor classification effect when dealing with such data. Methods: Based on this, this paper proposes a hybrid feature selection algorithm combining information gain and grouping particle swarm optimization (IG-GPSO). The algorithm firstly calculates the information gain values of the features and ranks them in descending order according to the value. Then, ranked features are grouped according to the information index, so that the features in the group are close, and the features outside the group are sparse. Finally, grouped features are searched using grouping PSO and evaluated according to in-group and out-group. Results: Experimental results show that the average accuracy (ACC) of the SVM on the feature subset selected by the IG-GPSO is 98.50%, which is significantly better than the traditional feature selection algorithm. Compared with KNN, the classification effect of the feature subset selected by the IG-GPSO is still optimal. In addition, the results of multiple comparison tests show that the feature selection effect of the IG-GPSO is significantly better than that of traditional feature selection algorithms. Conclusion: The feature subset selected by IG-GPSO not only has the best classification effect, but also has the least feature scale (FS). Water quality prediction is of great significance in pollution control, prevention, and management. Deep learning models have been applied to water quality prediction in many recent studies. However, most existing deep learning models for water quality prediction are used for single-site data, only considering the time dependency of water quality data and ignoring the spatial correlation among multi-sites. This research defines and analyzes the non-aligned spatial correlations that exist in multi-site water quality data. Then deploy spatial-temporal graph convolution to process water quality data, which takes into account both the temporal and spatial correlation of multi-site water quality data. A multi-site water pollution prediction method called W-WaveNet is proposed that integrates adaptive graph convolution and Convolutional Neural Network, Long Short-Term Memory (CNN-LSTM). It integrates temporal and spatial models by interleaved stacking. Theoretical analysis shows that the method can deal with non-aligned spatial correlations in different time spans, which is suitable for water quality data processing. The model validates water quality data generated on two real river sections that have multiple sites. The experimental results were compared with the results of Support Vector Regression, CNN-LSTM, and Spatial-Temporal Graph Convolutional Networks (STGCN). It shows that when W-WaveNet predicts water quality over two river sections, the average Mean Absolute Error is 0.264, which is 45.2% lower than the commonly used CNN-LSTM model and 23.8% lower than the STGCN. Smoking cessation is an important public health policy worldwide. However, as far as we know, there is a lack of screening of variables related to the success of therapeutic intervention (STI) in Brazilian smokers by machine learning (ML) algorithms. To address this gap in the literature, we evaluated the ability of eight ML algorithms to correctly predict the STI in Brazilian smokers who were treated at a smoking cessation program in Brazil between 2006 and 2017. The dataset was composed of 12 variables and the efficacies of the algorithms were measured by accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV) and area under the receiver operating characteristic curve. We plotted a decision tree flowchart and also measured the odds ratio (OR) between each independent variable and the outcome, and the importance of the variable for the best model based on PPV. The mean global values for the metrics described above were, respectively, 0.675±0.028, 0.803±0.078, 0.485±0.146, 0.705±0.035 and 0.680±0.033. Supporting vector machines performed the best algorithm with a PPV of 0.726±0.031. Smoking cessation drug use was the roof of decision tree with OR of 4.42 and importance of variable of 100.00. Increase in the number of relapses also promoted a positive outcome, while higher consumption of cigarettes resulted in the opposite. In summary, the best model predicted 72.6% of positive outcomes correctly. Smoking cessation drug use and higher number of relapses contributed to quit smoking, while higher consumption of cigarettes showed the opposite effect. Cancer, in any of its forms, remains a significant public health concern worldwide. Advances in early detection and treatment could lead to a decline in the overall death rate from cancer in recent decades. Therefore, tumor prediction and classification play an important role in fighting cancer. This study built computational models for a joint analysis of RNA seq, copy number variation (CNV), and DNA methylation to classify normal and tumor samples across liver cancer, breast cancer, and colon adenocarcinoma from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) dataset. Total of 18 machine learning methods were evaluated based on the AUC, precision, recall, and F-measure. Besides, five techniques were compared to ameliorate problems of class imbalance in the cancer datasets. Synthetic Minority Oversampling Technique (SMOTE) demonstrated the best performance. The results indicate that the model applying Stochastic Gradient Descent (SGD) for learning binary class SVM with hinge loss has the highest classification results on liver cancer and breast cancer datasets, with accuracy over 99% and AUC greater than or equal to 0.999. For colon adenocarcinoma dataset, both SGD and Sequential Minimal Optimization (SMO) that implements John Platt's sequential minimal optimization algorithm for training a support vector machine shows an outstanding classification performance with accuracy of 100%, AUC, precision, recall, and F-measure all at 1.000. Thermal comfort of humans depends on the surrounding environment and affects their productivity. Several environmental factors, such as air temperature, relative humidity, wind or airflow, and radiation, have considerable influence on the thermal comfort or pleasantness; hence, these are generally controlled by electrical devices. Lately, the development of objective measurement methods for thermal comfort or pleasantness using physiological signals is receiving attention to realize a personalized comfortable environment through the automatic control of electrical devices. In this study, we focused on electroencephalography (EEG) and investigated whether EEG signals contain information related to the pleasantness of ambient airflow reproducing natural wind fluctuations using machine learning methods. In a hot and humid artificial climate chamber, we measured EEG signals while the participants were exposed to airflow at four different velocities. Based on the reported pleasantness levels, we performed within-participant classification from the source activity of the EEG and obtained a classification accuracy higher than the chance level using both linear and nonlinear support vector machine classifiers as well as an artificial neural network. The recognition of bird species through the analysis of their vocalizations is a crucial aspect of wildlife conservation and biodiversity monitoring. In this study, the acoustic features of Certhia americana, Certhia brachydactyla, and Certhia familiaris were calculated including the Acoustic complexity index (ACI), Acoustic diversity index (ADI), Acoustic evenness index (AEI), Bioacoustic index (BI), Median of the amplitude envelop (MA), and Normalized Difference Soundscape Index (NDSI). Three machine learning models, Random Forest (RF), Support Vector Machine (SVM), and Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost), were constructed. The results showed that the XGBoost model had the best performance among the three models, with the highest accuracy (0.8365) and the highest AUC (0.8871). This suggests that XGBoost is an effective tool for bird species recognition based on acoustic indices. Objectives: To assess the performance bias caused by sampling data into training and test sets in a mammography radiomics study. Methods: Mammograms from 700 women were used to study upstaging of ductal carcinoma in situ. The dataset was repeatedly shuffled and split into training (n = 400) and test cases (n = 300) forty times. For each split, cross-validation was used for training, followed by an assessment of the test set. Logistic regression with regularization and support vector machine were used as the machine learning classifiers. For each split and classifier type, multiple models were created based on radiomics and/or clinical features. Results: Area under the curve (AUC) performances varied considerably across the different data splits (e.g., radiomics regression model: train 0.58–0.70, test 0.59–0.73). Performances for regression models showed a tradeoff where better training led to worse testing and vice versa. Cross-validation over all cases reduced this variability, but required samples of 500+ cases to yield representative estimates of performance. Conclusions: In medical imaging, clinical datasets are often limited to relatively small size. Models built from different training sets may not be representative of the whole dataset. Depending on the selected data split and model, performance bias could lead to inappropriate conclusions that might influence the clinical significance of the findings. This study combined geographic factors to predict Chinese healthy male RBP reference values from a geographic perspective, with the aim of exploring the spatial distribution and regional differences in Chinese healthy male Retinol-Binding Protein(RBP) reference values, and then providing a theoretical basis for medical diagnosis of healthy male RBP reference values in different regions of China. Using the actual measured RBP values of 24,502 healthy men in 256 cities in China combined with 16 geographical factors as the base data, the spatial autocorrelation, correlation analysis and support vector machine were used to predict the RBP reference values of healthy men in 2322 cities in China, and to generate a spatial distribution map of the RBP reference values of healthy men in China. It was found that the spatial distribution of healthy male RBP reference values in China showed a trend of gradual increase from the first to the third terrain steps. Combined with the distribution map, it is suggested that the RBP reference values of healthy men in China should be divided into the low value zone of the first-level terrain step (25mg/L~40mg/L), the middle value zone of the second-level terrain step (40mg/L~45mg/L) and the high value zone of the third-level terrain step (45mg/L~52mg/L). The extraction of roadways from remote sensing imagery constitutes a pivotal task, with far-reaching implications across diverse domains such as urban planning, management of transportation systems, emergency response initiatives, and environmental monitoring endeavors. Satellite images captured during daytime have customarily served as the primary resource for this extraction process. However, the emergence of Nighttime Light (NTL) remote sensing data introduces an innovative dimension to this arena. The exploration of NTL data for road extraction remains in its nascent stage, and this study seeks to bridge this gap. We present a refined U-Net model (CA U-Net) integrated with Cross-Attention Mechanisms, meticulously designed to extract roads from Yangwang-1 NTL images. This model incorporates several enhancements, thereby improving its proficiency in identifying and delineating road networks. Through extensive experimentation conducted in the urban landscape of Wenzhou City, the model delivers highly accurate results, achieving an F1 score of 84.46%. These outcomes significantly surpass the performance benchmarks set by Support Vector Machines (SVM) and the Optimal Threshold (OT) method. This promising development paves the way towards maximizing the utility of NTL data for comprehensive mapping and analysis of road networks. The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in diagnosing diabetic retinopathy, a major contributor to global vision impairment, is becoming increasingly pronounced. Notably, the detection of vision-threatening diabetic retinopathy (VTDR) has been significantly fortified through automated techniques. Traditionally, the reliance on manual analysis of retinal images, albeit slow and error-prone, constituted the conventional approach. Addressing this, our study introduces a novel methodology that amplifies the robustness and precision of the detection process. This is complemented by the groundbreaking Hierarchical Block Attention (HBA) and HBA-U-Net architecture, which notably propel attention mechanisms in image segmentation. This innovative model refines image processing without imposing excessive computational demands by honing in on individual pixel intricacies, spatial relationships, and channel-specific attention. Building upon this innovation, our proposed method employs a multi-stage strategy encompassing data pre-processing, feature extraction via a hybrid CNN-SVD model, and classification employing an amalgamation of Improved Support Vector Machine-Radial Basis Function (ISVM-RBF), DT, and KNN techniques. Rigorously tested on the IDRiD dataset classified into five severity tiers, the hybrid model yields remarkable performance, achieving a 99.18% accuracy, 98.15% sensitivity, and 100% specificity in VTDR detection, thus surpassing existing methods. Data discretization aims to transform a set of continuous features into discrete features, thus simplifying the representation of information and making it easier to understand, use, and explain. In practice, users can take advantage of the discretization process to improve knowledge discovery and data analysis on medical domain problem datasets containing continuous features. However, certain feature values were frequently missing. Many data-mining algorithms cannot handle incomplete datasets. In this study, we considered the use of both discretization and missing-value imputation to process incomplete medical datasets, examining how the order of discretization and missing-value imputation combined influenced performance. The experimental results were obtained using seven different medical domain problem datasets: two discretizers, including the minimum description length principle (MDLP) and ChiMerge; three imputation methods, including the mean/mode, classification and regression tree (CART), and k-nearest neighbor (KNN) methods; and two classifiers, including support vector machines (SVM) and the C4.5 decision tree. The results show that a better performance can be obtained by first performing discretization followed by imputation, rather than vice versa. TV drama, through synchronization with social phenomena, allows the audience to resonate with the characters and desire to watch the next episode. In particular, drama ratings can be the criterion for advertisers to invest in ad placement and a predictor of subsequent economic efficiency in the surrounding areas. To identify the dissemination patterns of social information about dramas, this study used machine learning to predict drama ratings and the contribution of various drama metadata, including broadcast year, broadcast season, TV stations, day of the week, broadcast time slot, genre, screenwriters, status as an original work or sequel, actors and facial features on posters. A total of 800 Japanese TV dramas broadcast during prime time between 2003 and 2020 were collected for analysis. Four machine learning classifiers, including naïve Bayes, artificial neural network, support vector machine, and random forest, were used to combine the metadata. With facial features, the accuracy of the random forest model increased from 75.80% to 77.10%, which shows that poster information can improve the accuracy of the overall predicted ratings. Using only posters to predict ratings with a convolutional neural network still obtained an accuracy rate of 71.70%. Regional land use change and ecological security have received considerable attention in recent years. The rapid economic development of Kunming and Fuzhou has resulted in environmental damage such as water pollution and urban heat island effect. It is thus important to conduct a comparative analysis of the ecological security response to land use/land cover change (LUCC) in different natural zones. Using the Google Earth Engine (GEE) platform, random forest and support vector machine methods were used to classify land cover types in the study area, after which the ArcGIS platform was used to analyze LUCC. The driving force-pressure-state-impact-response (DPSIR) model and entropy weight method were used to construct an ecological security evaluation system, and gray correlation was used to compare the ecological security responses to LUCC in Kunming and Fuzhou. The findings revealed that: (1) The average dynamic degrees of comprehensive land use in Kunming and Fuzhou from 1995 to 2020 were 1.05% and 0.55%, respectively; (2) From 1995 to 2020, the ecological security index values for Kunming and Fuzhou increased from 0.42 to 0.52 and from 0.36 to 0.68, respectively, indicating that Fuzhou's index is rising more rapidly; and (3)There is a strong correlation between LUCC and ecological security, the correlation between the woodland and the ecological security index is very strong in both places. The expansion of construction land may be an important reason for the reduced ecological security level in Fuzhou City, while water resources have a significant impact on the ecological security level of Kunming City. Background: According to the World Health Organization (WHO), dementia is the seventh leading reason of death among all illnesses and one of the leading causes of disability among the world's elderly people. Day by day the number of Alzheimer's patients is rising. Considering the increasing rate and the dangers, Alzheimer's disease should be diagnosed carefully. Machine learning is a potential technique for Alzheimer's diagnosis but general users do not trust machine learning models due to the black-box nature. Even, some of those models do not provide the best performance because of using only neuroimaging data. Objective: To solve these issues, this paper proposes a novel explainable Alzheimer's disease prediction model using a multimodal dataset. This approach performs a data-level fusion using clinical data, MRI segmentation data, and psychological data. However, currently, there is very little understanding of multimodal five-class classification of Alzheimer's disease. Method: For predicting five class classifications, 9 most popular Machine Learning models are used. These models are Random Forest (RF), Logistic Regression (LR), Decision Tree (DT), Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLP), K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN), Gradient Boosting (GB), Adaptive Boosting (AdaB), Support Vector Machine (SVM), and Naive Bayes (NB). Among these models RF has scored the highest value. Besides for explainability, SHapley Additive exPlanation (SHAP) is used in this research work. Results and conclusions: The performance evaluation demonstrates that the RF classifier has a 10-fold cross-validation accuracy of 98.81% for predicting Alzheimer's disease, cognitively normal, non-Alzheimer's dementia, uncertain dementia, and others. In addition, the study utilized Explainable Artificial Intelligence based on the SHAP model and analyzed the causes of prediction. To the best of our knowledge, we are the first to present this multimodal (Clinical, Psychological, and MRI segmentation data) five-class classification of Alzheimer's disease using Open Access Series of Imaging Studies (OASIS-3) dataset. The employment of college students is an important issue that affects national development and social stability. In recent years, the increase in the number of graduates, the pressure of employment, and the epidemic have made the phenomenon of 'slow employment' increasingly prominent, becoming an urgent problem to be solved. Data mining and machine learning methods are used to analyze and predict the employment prospects for graduates and provide effective employment guidance and services for universities, governments, and graduates. It is a feasible solution to alleviate the problem of 'slow employment' of graduates. Therefore, this study proposed a feature selection prediction model (bGEBA-SVM) based on an improved bat algorithm and support vector machine by extracting 1694 college graduates from 2022 classes in Zhejiang Province. To improve the search efficiency and accuracy of the optimal feature subset, this paper proposed an enhanced bat algorithm based on the Gaussian distribution-based and elimination strategies for optimizing the feature set. The training data were input to the support vector machine for prediction. The proposed method is experimented by comparing it with peers, well-known machine learning models on the IEEE CEC2017 benchmark functions, public datasets, and graduate employment prediction dataset. The experimental results show that bGEBA-SVM can obtain higher prediction Accuracy, which can reach 93.86%. In addition, further education, student leader experience, family situation, career planning, and employment structure are more relevant characteristics that affect employment outcomes. Pyroptosis is a new form of programmed cell death recognized as crucial in developing sepsis. However, there is limited research on the mechanism of pyroptosis-related genes in sepsis-related from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database and standardized. The expression levels of pyroptosis-related genes were extracted, and differential expression analysis was conducted. A prediction model was constructed using random forest (RF), support vector machine (SVM), weighted gene co-expression new analysis (WGCNA), and nomogram techniques to assess the risk of sepsis. The relationship between pyroptosis-related subgroups and the immune microenvironment and inflammatory factors was studied using consistent clustering algorithms, principal component analysis (PCA), single-sample genomic enrichment analysis (ssGSEA), and immune infiltration. A risk prediction model based on 3 PRGs has been constructed and can effectively predict the risk of sepsis. Patients with sepsis can be divided into two completely different subtypes of pyroptosis-related clusters. Cluster B is highly correlated with the lower proportion of Th17 celld and has lower levels of expression of inflammatory factors. This study utilizes mechanical learning methods to further investigate the pathogenesis of sepsis, explore potential biomarkers, provide effective molecular targets for its diagnosis and treatment of sepsis. Guided by the Elastic Net algorithm, a sports performance assessment model is meticulously constructed. In contrast to the conventional Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator (Lasso) algorithm, this model seeks to elucidate the factors influencing physical health indicators due to sports activities. Additionally, the incorporation of the Random Forest algorithm facilitates a comprehensive evaluation of sports performance across distinct dimensions: wrestling-type sports, soccer-type sports, skill-based sports, and school physical education. Employing the Top-K criterion for evaluation and juxtaposing it with the high-performance Support Vector Machine (SVM) algorithm, the accuracy is scrutinized under three distinct criteria: Top-3, Top-5, and Top-10. Cell type identification is one of the fundamental tasks in single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) studies. It is a key step to facilitate downstream interpretations such as differential expression, trajectory inference, etc. scRNA-seq data contains technical variations that could affect the interpretation of the cell types. Therefore, gene selection, also known as feature selection in data science, plays an important role in selecting informative genes for scRNA-seq cell type identification. Generally speaking, feature selection methods are categorized into filter-, wrapper-, and embedded-based approaches. From the existing literature, methods from filter- and embedded-based approaches are widely applied in scRNA-seq gene selection tasks. The wrapper-based method that gives promising results in other fields has yet been extensively utilized for selecting gene features from scRNA-seq data; in addition, most of the existing wrapper methods used in this field are clustering instead of classification-based. With a large number of annotated data available today, this study applied a classification-based approach as an alternative to the clustering-based wrapper method. In our work, a quantum-inspired differential evolution (QDE) wrapped with a classification method was introduced to select a subset of genes from twelve well-known scRNA-seq transcriptomic datasets to identify cell types. In particular, the QDE was combined with different machine-learning (ML) classifiers namely logistic regression, decision tree, support vector machine (SVM) with linear and radial basis function kernels, as well as extreme learning machine. The linear SVM wrapped with QDE, namely QDE-SVM, was chosen by referring to the feature selection results from the experiment. QDE-SVM showed a superior cell type classification performance among QDE wrapping with other ML classifiers as well as the recent wrapper methods (i.e., FSCAM, SSD-LAHC, MA-HS, and BSF). Typically, load forecasting models are trained in an offline setting and then used to generate predictions in an online setting. However, this approach, known as batch learning, is limited in its ability to integrate new load information that becomes available in real-time. On the other hand, online learning methods enable load forecasting models to adapt efficiently to new incoming data. Electricity Load and Price Forecasting (ELPF) is critical to maintaining energy grid stability in smart grids. Existing forecasting methods cannot handle the available large amount of data, which are limited by different issues like non-linearity, un-adjusted high variance and high dimensions. A compact and improved algorithm is needed to synchronize with the diverse procedure in ELPF. Our model ELPF framework comprises high/low consumer data separation, handling missing and unstandardized data and preprocessing method, which includes selecting relevant features and removing redundant features. Finally, it implements the ELPF using an improved method Residual Network (ResNet-152) and the machine-improved Support Vector Machine (SVM) based forecasting engine to forecast the ELP accurately. We proposed two main distinct mechanisms, regularization, base learner selection and hyperparameter tuning, to improve the performance of the existing version of ResNet-152 and SVM. Furthermore, it reduces the time complexity and the overfitting model issue to handle more complex consumer data. Furthermore, numerous structures of ResNet-152 and SVM are also explored to improve the regularization function, base learners and compatible selection of the parameter values with respect to fitting capabilities for the final forecasting. Simulated results from the real-world load and price data confirm that the proposed method outperforms 8% of the existing schemes in performance measures and can also be used in industry-based applications. Driven by internet technology, online has become the main way of news dissemination, but redundant information such as navigation bars and advertisements affects people's access to news content. The research aims to enable users to obtain pure news content from redundant web information. Firstly, based on the narrative characteristics of literary news, the Term Frequency-Inverse Document Frequency (TF-IDF) algorithm is employed to extract pure news content from the analyzed web pages. The algorithm uses keyword matching, text analysis, and semantic processing to determine news content's boundaries and key information. Secondly, the news text classification algorithm (support vector machine, K-nearest neighbor, AdaBoost algorithm) is selected through comparative experiments. The news extraction system based on keyword feature and extended Document Object Model (DOM) tree is constructed. DOM technology analyzes web page structure and extracts key elements and information. Finally, the research can get their narrative characteristics by studying the narrative sequence and structure of 15 American literary news reports. The results reveal that the most used narrative sequence in American literary news is sequence and flashback. Analyzing customers' characteristics and giving the early warning of customer churn based on machine learning algorithms, can help enterprises provide targeted marketing strategies and personalized services, and save a lot of operating costs. Data cleaning, oversampling, data standardization and other preprocessing operations are done on 900,000 telecom customer personal characteristics and historical behavior data set based on Python language. Appropriate model parameters were selected to build BPNN (Back Propagation Neural Network). Random Forest (RF) and Adaboost, the two classic ensemble learning models were introduced, and the Adaboost dual-ensemble learning model with RF as the base learner was put forward. The four models and the other four classical machine learning models-decision tree, naive Bayes, K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN), Support Vector Machine (SVM) were utilized respectively to analyze the customer churn data. The results show that the four models have better performance in terms of recall rate, precision rate, F1 score and other indicators, and the RF-Adaboost dual-ensemble model has the best performance. Among them, the recall rates of BPNN, RF, Adaboost and RF-Adaboost dual-ensemble model on positive samples are respectively 79%, 90%, 89%,93%, the precision rates are 97%, 99%, 98%, 99%, and the F1 scores are 87%, 95%, 94%, 96%. The RF-Adaboost dual-ensemble model has the best performance, and the three indicators are 10%, 1%, and 6% higher than the reference. The prediction results of customer churn provide strong data support for telecom companies to adopt appropriate retention strategies for pre-churn customers and reduce customer churn. Coronaviruses have affected the lives of people around the world. Increasingly, studies have indicated that the virus is mutating and becoming more contagious. Hence, the pressing priority is to swiftly and accurately predict patient outcomes. In addition, physicians and patients increasingly need interpretability when building machine models in healthcare. We propose an interpretable machine framework(KISM) that can diagnose and prognose patients based on blood test datasets. First, we use k-nearest neighbors, isolated forests, and SMOTE to pre-process the original blood test datasets. Seven machine learning tools Support Vector Machine, Extra Tree, Random Forest, Gradient Boosting Decision Tree, eXtreme Gradient Boosting, Logistic Regression, and ensemble learning were then used to diagnose and predict COVID-19. In addition, we used SHAP and scikit-learn post-hoc interpretability to report feature importance, allowing healthcare professionals and artificial intelligence models to interact to suggest biomarkers that some doctors may have missed. The 10-fold cross-validation of two public datasets shows that the performance of KISM is better than that of the current state-of-the-art methods. In the diagnostic COVID-19 task, an AUC value of 0.9869 and an accuracy of 0.9787 were obtained, and ultimately Leukocytes, platelets, and Proteina C reativa mg/dL were found to be the most indicative biomarkers for the diagnosis of COVID-19. An AUC value of 0.9949 and an accuracy of 0.9677 were obtained in the prognostic COVID-19 task and Age, LYMPH, and WBC were found to be the most indicative biomarkers for identifying the severity of the patient. Emotion recognition is key to interpersonal communication and to human–machine interaction. Body expression may contribute to emotion recognition, but most past studies focused on a few motions, limiting accurate recognition. Moreover, emotions in most previous research were acted out, resulting in non–natural motion, which is unapplicable in reality. We present an approach for emotion recognition based on body motion in naturalistic settings, examining authentic emotions, natural movement, and a broad collection of motion parameters. A lab experiment using 24 participants manipulated participants' emotions using pretested movies into five conditions: happiness, relaxation, fear, sadness, and emotionally–neutral. Emotion was manipulated within subjects, with fillers in between and a counterbalanced order. A motion capture system measured posture and motion during standing and walking; a force plate measured center of pressure location. Traditional statistics revealed nonsignificant effects of emotions on most motion parameters; only 7 of 229 parameters demonstrate significant effects. Most significant effects are in parameters representing postural control during standing, which is consistent with past studies. Yet, the few significant effects suggest that it is impossible to recognize emotions based on a single motion parameter. We therefore developed machine learning models to classify emotions using a collection of parameters, and examined six models: k-nearest neighbors, decision tree, logistic regression, and the support vector machine with radial base function and linear and polynomial functions. The decision tree using 25 parameters provided the highest average accuracy (45.8%), more than twice the random guess for five conditions, which advances past studies demonstrating comparable accuracies, due to our naturalistic setting. This research suggests that machine learning models are valuable for emotion recognition in reality and lays the foundation for further progress in emotion recognition models, informing the development of recognition devices (e.g., depth camera), to be used in home-setting human–machine interactions. Information asymmetry is widespread in the P2P online lending market, creating an imbalance in the position of lenders and borrowers. This paper aims to expand the process of information exchange between lenders and borrowers by analyzing the link between soft information such as borrowers' loan descriptions and lending outcomes. Based on the transaction data of the 'Renrendai' platform, this paper analyzed the linguistic features and extracted the content of loan descriptions using a latent Dirichlet allocation (LDA) theme model. To further explore the value of loan descriptions in predicting lending success, this paper conducts a prediction study based on a support vector machine model. It is found that: lenders focus on effective information in the loan descriptions, the linguistic complexity affects the transaction, with simple and direct statements being more favorable; the content for building a good personal image of the borrower will significantly contribute to the lending success. In the prediction study section, it is demonstrated that loan descriptions' language feature indicators can improve prediction accuracy. This paper uncovers the importance of loan descriptions in online lending transactions, which has implications in assisting lenders' investment judgments, as well as in platform information system improvements. The sudden resignation of core employees often brings losses to companies in various aspects. Traditional employee turnover theory cannot analyze the unbalanced data of employees comprehensively, which leads the company to make wrong decisions. In the face the classification of unbalanced data, the traditional Support Vector Machine (SVM) suffers from insufficient decision plane offset and unbalanced support vector distribution, for which the Synthetic Minority Oversampling Technique (SMOTE) is introduced to improve the balance of generated data. Further, the Fuzzy C-mean (FCM) clustering is improved and combined with the SMOTE (IFCM-SMOTE-SVM) to new synthesized samples with higher accuracy, solving the drawback that the separation data synthesized by SMOTE is too random and easy to generate noisy data. The kernel function is combined with IFCM-SMOTE-SVM and transformed to a high-dimensional space for clustering sampling and classification, and the kernel space-based classification algorithm (KS-IFCM-SMOTE-SVM) is proposed, which improves the effectiveness of the generated data on SVM classification results. Finally, the generalization ability of KS-IFCM-SMOTE-SVM for different types of enterprise data is experimentally demonstrated, and it is verified that the proposed algorithm has stable and accurate performance. Background: Colon cancer recurrence is a common adverse outcome for patients after complete mesocolic excision (CME) and greatly affects the near-term and long-term prognosis of patients. This study aimed to develop a machine learning model that can identify high-risk factors before, during, and after surgery, and predict the occurrence of postoperative colon cancer recurrence. Methods: The study included 1187 patients with colon cancer, including 110 patients who had recurrent colon cancer. The researchers collected 44 characteristic variables, including patient demographic characteristics, basic medical history, preoperative examination information, type of surgery, and intraoperative information. Four machine learning algorithms, namely extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost), random forest (RF), support vector machine (SVM), and k-nearest neighbor algorithm (KNN), were used to construct the model. The researchers evaluated the model using the k-fold cross-validation method, ROC curve, calibration curve, decision curve analysis (DCA), and external validation. Results: Among the four prediction models, the XGBoost algorithm performed the best. The ROC curve results showed that the AUC value of XGBoost was 0.962 in the training set and 0.952 in the validation set, indicating high prediction accuracy. The XGBoost model was stable during internal validation using the k-fold cross-validation method. The calibration curve demonstrated high predictive ability of the XGBoost model. The DCA curve showed that patients who received interventional treatment had a higher benefit rate under the XGBoost model. The external validation set's AUC value was 0.91, indicating good extrapolation of the XGBoost prediction model. Over the years, intrusion detection system has played a crucial role in network security by discovering attacks from network traffics and generating an alarm signal to be sent to the security team. Machine learning methods, e.g., Support Vector Machine, K Nearest Neighbour, have been used in building intrusion detection systems but such systems still suffer from low accuracy and high false alarm rate. Deep learning models (e.g., Long Short-Term Memory, LSTM) have been employed in designing intrusion detection systems to address this issue. However, LSTM needs a high number of iterations to achieve high performance. In this paper, a novel, and improved version of the Long Short-Term Memory (ILSTM) algorithm was proposed. The ILSTM is based on the novel integration of the chaotic butterfly optimization algorithm (CBOA) and particle swarm optimization (PSO) to improve the accuracy of the LSTM algorithm. The ILSTM was then used to build an efficient intrusion detection system for binary and multi-class classification cases. The proposed algorithm has two phases: phase one involves training a conventional LSTM network to get initial weights, and phase two involves using the hybrid swarm algorithms, CBOA and PSO, to optimize the weights of LSTM to improve the accuracy. The performance of ILSTM and the intrusion detection system were evaluated using two public datasets (NSL-KDD dataset and LITNET-2020) under nine performance metrics. The results showed that the proposed ILSTM algorithm outperformed the original LSTM and other related deep-learning algorithms regarding accuracy and precision. The ILSTM achieved an accuracy of 93.09% and a precision of 96.86% while LSTM gave an accuracy of 82.74% and a precision of 76.49%. Also, the ILSTM performed better than LSTM in both datasets. In addition, the statistical analysis showed that ILSTM is more statistically significant than LSTM. Background: Malnutrition imposes enormous costs resulting from lost investments in human capital and increased healthcare expenditures. There is a dearth of research focusing on the prediction of women's body mass index (BMI) and malnutrition outcomes (underweight, overweight, and obesity) in developing countries. This paper attempts to fill out this knowledge gap by predicting the BMI and the risks of malnutrition outcomes for Bangladeshi women of childbearing age from their economic, health, and demographic features. Methods: Data from the 2017–18 Bangladesh Demographic and Health Survey and a series of supervised machine learning (SML) techniques are used. Additionally, this study circumvents the imbalanced distribution problem in obesity classification by utilizing an oversampling approach. Results: Study findings demonstrate that the support vector machine and k-nearest neighbor are the two best-performing methods in BMI prediction based on the coefficient of determination (R2), root mean square error (RMSE), and mean absolute error (MAE). The combined predictor algorithms consistently yield top specificity, Cohen's kappa, F1-score, and AUC in classifying the malnutrition status, and their performance is robust to alternative standards. The feature importance ranking based on several nonparametric and combined predictors indicates that socioeconomic status, women's age, and breastfeeding status are the most important features in predicting women's nutritional outcomes. Furthermore, the conditional inference trees corroborate that those three features, along with the partner's educational attainment and employment status, significantly predict malnutrition risks. Conclusion: To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study that predicts BMI and one of the pioneer studies to classify all three malnutrition outcomes for women of childbearing age in Bangladesh, let alone in any lower-middle income country, using SML techniques. Moreover, in the context of Bangladesh, this paper is the first to identify and rank features that are critical in predicting nutritional outcomes using several feature selection algorithms. The estimators from this study predict the outcomes of interest most accurately and efficiently compared to other existing studies in the relevant literature. Therefore, study findings can aid policymakers in designing policy and programmatic approaches to address the double burden of malnutrition among Bangladeshi women, thereby reducing the country's economic burden. This study aims to predict head trauma outcome for Neurosurgical patients in children, adults, and elderly people. As Machine Learning (ML) algorithms are helpful in healthcare field, a comparative study of various ML techniques is developed. Several algorithms are utilized such as k-nearest neighbor, Random Forest (RF), C4.5, Artificial Neural Network, and Support Vector Machine (SVM). Their performance is assessed using anonymous patients' data. Then, a proposed double classifier based on Henry Gas Solubility Optimization (HGSO) is developed with Aquila optimizer (AQO). It is implemented for feature selection to classify patients' outcome status into four states. Those are mortality, morbidity, improved, or the same. The double classifiers are evaluated via various performance metrics including recall, precision, F-measure, accuracy, and sensitivity. Another contribution of this research is the original use of hybrid technique based on RF-SVM and HGSO to predict patient outcome status with high accuracy. It determines outcome status relationship with age and mode of trauma. The algorithm is tested on more than 1000 anonymous patients' data taken from a Neurosurgical unit of Mansoura International Hospital, Egypt. This study seeks to assist small and medium enterprises break free of the constraints of the conventional financing model and lessen the supply chain finance risks they face. First, the supply chain financial business model and credit risk are analyzed, followed by a discussion of the application principle of blockchain in the control of supply chain financial credit risk. The next topic up for discussion is the emancipation of individuals and the application of financial technology toward the management of financial risk in supply chains. In the final stage of the development of the computerized risk assessment model, the Fuzzy Support Vector Machine (FSVM) is optimized, and the effectiveness and efficiency of risk classification are enhanced by introducing a variable penalty factor C. To test the efficacy of the C-FSVM risk assessment model, the Chinese auto sector is used as the study's object. According to the results of the study, the C-FSVM model has a classification accuracy of 96.35% for the entire sample, 96.45% for credible firms, and 95.34% for default enterprises. The training time of the C-FSVM model is 473.9s, which is far lower than the SVM and FSVM models' training times of 1631.6s and 1870.2s. Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) represents 85% of all new lung cancer diagnoses and presents a high recurrence rate after surgery. Thus, an accurate prediction of recurrence risk in NSCLC patients at diagnosis could be essential to designate risk patients to more aggressive medical treatments. In this manuscript, we apply a transfer learning approach to predict recurrence in NSCLC patients, exploiting only data acquired during its screening phase. Particularly, we used a public radiogenomic dataset of NSCLC patients having a primary tumor CT image and clinical information. Starting from the CT slice containing the tumor with maximum area, we considered three different dilatation sizes to identify three Regions of Interest (ROIs): CROP (without dilation), CROP 10 and CROP 20. Then, from each ROI, we extracted radiomic features by means of different pre-trained CNNs. The latter have been combined with clinical information; thus, we trained a Support Vector Machine classifier to predict the NSCLC recurrence. The classification performances of the devised models were finally evaluated on both the hold-out training and hold-out test sets, in which the original sample has been previously divided. The experimental results showed that the model obtained analyzing CROP 20 images, which are the ROIs containing more peritumoral area, achieved the best performances on both the hold-out training set, with an AUC of 0.73, an Accuracy of 0.61, a Sensitivity of 0.63, and a Specificity of 0.60, and on the hold-out test set, with an AUC value of 0.83, an Accuracy value of 0.79, a Sensitivity value of 0.80, and a Specificity value of 0.78. This study introduces the global-local least-squares support vector machine (GLocal-LS-SVM), a novel machine learning algorithm that combines the strengths of localised and global learning. GLocal-LS-SVM addresses the challenges associated with decentralised data sources, large datasets, and input-space-related issues. The algorithm is a double-layer learning approach that employs multiple local LS-SVM models in the first layer and one global LS-SVM model in the second layer. The key idea behind GLocal-LS-SVM is to extract the most informative data points, known as support vectors, from each local region in the input space. Local LS-SVM models are developed for each region to identify the most contributing data points with the highest support values. The local support vectors are then merged at the final layer to form a reduced training set used to train the global model. We evaluated the performance of GLocal-LS-SVM using both synthetic and real-world datasets. Our results demonstrate that GLocal-LS-SVM achieves comparable or superior classification performance compared to standard LS-SVM and state-of-the-art models. In addition, our experiments show that GLocal-LS-SVM outperforms standard LS-SVM in terms of computational efficiency. For instance, on a training dataset of 9, 000 instances, the average training time for GLocal-LS-SVM was only 2% of the time required to train the LS-SVM model while maintaining classification performance. In summary, the GLocal-LS-SVM algorithm offers a promising solution to address the challenges associated with decentralised data sources and large datasets while maintaining high classification performance. Understanding handwritten documents is a vital and challenging problem that attracts many researchers in the fields of forensic and authentication science. This paper presents an offline system for text-independent writer identification of handwritten documents. The system extracts a handwritten connected component contour, which in turn is divided into segments of specific length. The system utilizes the concept of a bag of features in the writer recognition domain and considers handwritten contour segments to extract two conceptually simple and effective structural features. These features are the contour point curve angle and the CONtour point CONcavity/CONvexity. The system uses the proposed features to train a k-means clustering algorithm to construct a codebook of size K. The method then uses occurrence histograms of the extracted features in the codebook to create a final feature vector for each handwritten document. The effectiveness of the proposed features is evaluated in the writer identification domain using two widely used classification methods: the nearest neighbor and the support vector machine techniques. The proposed writer identification is evaluated on two large and public datasets from different language domains, the Arabic KHATT and English IAM datasets. The experimental results show that the proposed system outperforms state-of-the-art methods on the IAM dataset and provides competitive results on the KHATT dataset with respect to the identification rate.
