The Yangtze River Delta (YRD) is an important engine of national economic development and a leading region in international competition. As economic exchanges and resource flows in the YRD region become closer, the inter-regional industrial linkages continue to grow, resulting in the formation of an industrial network structure characterized by a "complex network". The strength of the links between industrial sectors and the value and significance of the existence of industries in the network change over time, thus causing the overall evolution of the industrial network in the YRD region. Based on the input-output tables of the YRD region in 2012 and 2017, this paper uses the prediction index of network structure similarity to construct the prediction model of industrial network link between the YRD regions, and calculates the possibility of future links between industries in the Yangtze River Delta region through comparative analysis and selection of the RWR index of random walk similarity with the best effect, and concludes that: (1) the homogeneity of industries among provinces and cities in the Yangtze River Delta region is relatively high, resulting in homogeneous competition; (2) the overall nature of the industrial layout of the YRD is not prominent, and the depth and intensity of cross-regional industrial cooperation are lacking. On the basis of analysis and research, the countermeasures and suggestions for effectively realizing industrial integration are put forward from the macro level of the government and the meso level of the industry, so as to achieve a more complete industrial network in the YRD region and a more extensive length and width of the cross-regional industrial chain. Time series, a type of data that measures how things change over time, remains challenging to predict. In order to improve the accuracy of time series prediction, a deep learning model CL-Informer is proposed. In the Informer model, an embedding layer based on continuous wavelet transform is added so that the model can capture the characteristics of multi-scale data, and the LSTM layer is used to capture the data dependency further and process the redundant information in continuous wavelet transform. To demonstrate the reliability of the proposed CL-Informer model, it is compared with mainstream forecasting models such as Informer, Informer+, and Reformer on five datasets. Experimental results demonstrate that the CL-Informer model achieves an average reduction of 30.64% in MSE across various univariate prediction horizons and a reduction of 10.70% in MSE across different multivariate prediction horizons, thereby improving the accuracy of Informer in long sequence prediction and enhancing the model's precision. Portland cement concrete (PCC) is a major contributor to human-made CO2 emissions. To address this environmental impact, fly ash geopolymer concrete (FAGC) has emerged as a promising low-carbon alternative. This study establishes a robust compressive strength prediction model for FAGC and develops an optimal mixture design method to achieve target compressive strength with minimal CO2 emissions. To develop robust prediction models, comprehensive factors, including fly ash characteristics, mixture proportions, curing parameters, and specimen types, are considered, a large dataset comprising 1136 observations is created, and polynomial regression, genetic programming, and ensemble learning are employed. The ensemble learning model shows superior accuracy and generalization ability with an RMSE value of 1.81 MPa and an R2 value of 0.93 in the experimental validation set. Then, the study integrates the developed strength model with a life cycle assessment-based CO2 emissions model, formulating an optimal FAGC mixture design program. A case study validates the effectiveness of this program, demonstrating a 16.7% reduction in CO2 emissions for FAGC with a compressive strength of 50 MPa compared to traditional trial-and-error design. Moreover, compared to PCC, the developed FAGC achieves a substantial 60.3% reduction in CO2 emissions. This work provides engineers with tools for compressive strength prediction and low carbon optimization of FAGC, enabling rapid and highly accurate design of concrete with lower CO2 emissions and greater sustainability. The global prevalence of diabetes is escalating, with estimates indicating that over 536.6 million individuals were afflicted by 2021, accounting for approximately 10.5% of the world's population. Effective management of diabetes, particularly monitoring and prediction of blood glucose levels, remains a significant challenge due to the severe health risks associated with inaccuracies, such as hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia. This study addresses this critical issue by employing a hybrid Transformer-LSTM (Long Short-Term Memory) model designed to enhance the accuracy of future glucose level predictions based on data from Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) systems. This innovative approach aims to reduce the risk of diabetic complications and improve patient outcomes. We utilized a dataset which contain more than 32000 data points comprising CGM data from eight patients collected by Suzhou Municipal Hospital in Jiangsu Province, China. This dataset includes historical glucose readings and equipment calibration values, making it highly suitable for developing predictive models due to its richness and real-time applicability. Our findings demonstrate that the hybrid Transformer-LSTM model significantly outperforms the standard LSTM model, achieving Mean Square Error (MSE) values of 1.18, 1.70, and 2.00 at forecasting intervals of 15, 30, and 45 minutes, respectively. Intradialytic hypotension (IDH) is common in hemodialysis patients and can lead to several complications. Risk factors for IDH include demographic characteristics, comorbidities, dialysis procedure factors, and so on. Clinical studies on predictive models for dialysis-induced hypotension have shown inconsistent results. This systematic review aims to evaluate published prediction models for IDH, analyzing their characteristics, predictors, efficacy, and the methodological quality and applicability. The protocol has been prepared using the Preferred Items for Systematic Review and Meta-analysis Protocols (PRISMA-P) guidelines. The systematic review protocol for IDH prediction in hemodialysis patients has been registered with the International Platform of Registered Systematic Review and Meta-analysis Protocols (INPLASY2023110081, DOI: 10.37766/inplasy2023.11.0081). A comprehensive search across five major databases (PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, CNKI, and Wanfang) will be conducted for studies on prediction models of IDH among hemodialysis patients. Two researchers will independently screen literature, extract data, and evaluate the bias risk and applicability of included studies using prediction modelling study tools. This systematic review will provide critical insights into the efficacy and quality of reporting of the IDH model in hemodialysis patients. Combination monoclonal broadly neutralizing antibodies (bnAbs) are currently being developed for preventing HIV-1 acquisition. Recent work has focused on predicting in vitro neutralization potency of both individual bnAbs and combination regimens against HIV-1 pseudoviruses using Env sequence features. To predict in vitro combination regimen neutralization potency against a given HIV-1 pseudovirus, previous approaches have applied mathematical models to combine individual-bnAb neutralization and have predicted this combined neutralization value; we call this the combine-then-predict (CP) approach. However, prediction performance for some individual bnAbs has exceeded that for the combination, leading to another possibility: combining the individual-bnAb predicted values and using these to predict combination regimen neutralization; we call this the predict-then-combine (PC) approach. We explore both approaches in both simulated data and data from the Los Alamos National Laboratory's Compile, Neutralize, and Tally NAb Panels repository. The CP approach is superior to the PC approach when the neutralization outcome of interest is binary (e.g., neutralization susceptibility, defined as inhibitory 80% concentration < 1 μg/mL). For continuous outcomes, the CP approach performs nearly as well as the PC approach when the individual-bnAb prediction algorithms have strong performance, and is superior to the PC approach when the individual-bnAb prediction algorithms have poor performance. This knowledge may be used when building prediction models for novel antibody combinations in the absence of in vitro neutralization data for the antibody combination; this, in turn, will aid in the evaluation and down-selection of these antibody combinations into prevention efficacy trials. The research aims to lift the accuracy of table tennis trajectory prediction through advanced computer vision and deep learning techniques to achieve real-time and accurate table tennis ball position and motion trajectory tracking. The study concentrates on the innovative application of a micro-miniature fourth-generation real-time target detection algorithm with a gated loop unit to table tennis ball motion analysis by combining physical models and deep learning methods. The results show that in the comparison experiments, the improved micro-miniature fourth-generation real-time target detection algorithm outperforms the traditional target detection algorithm, with the loss value decreasing to 1.54. Its average accuracy in multi-target recognition is dramatically increased to 86.74%, which is 22.36% higher than the original model, and the ping-pong ball recognition experiments show that it has an excellent accuracy in various lighting conditions, especially in low light, with an average accuracy of 89.12%. Meanwhile, the improved model achieves a processing efficiency of 85 frames/s. In addition, compared with the traditional trajectory prediction model, the constructed model performs the best in table tennis ball trajectory prediction, with errors of 4.5 mm, 25.3 mm, and 35.58 mm. The results show that the research trajectory prediction model achieves significant results in accurately tracking table tennis ball positions and trajectories. It not only has practical application value for table tennis training and competition strategies, but also provides a useful reference for the similar techniques application in other sports. In this registered report, we propose to stress-test existing models for predicting the ideology-prejudice association, which varies in size and direction across target groups. Previous models of this relationship use the perceived ideology, status, and choice in group membership of target groups to predict the ideology-prejudice association across target groups. These analyses show that models using only the perceived ideology of the target group are more accurate and parsimonious in predicting the ideology-prejudice association than models using perceived status, choice, and all of the characteristics in a single model. Here, we stress-test the original models by testing the models' predictive utility with new measures of explicit prejudice, a comparative operationalization of prejudice, the Implicit Association Test, and additional target groups. In Study 1, we propose to directly test the previous models using an absolute measure of prejudice that closely resembles the measure used in the original study. This will tell us if the models replicate with distinct, yet conceptually similar measures of prejudice. In Study 2, we propose to develop new ideology-prejudice models for a comparative operationalization of prejudice using both explicit measures and the Implicit Association Test. We will then test these new models using data from the Ideology 2.0 project collected by Project Implicit. We do not have full access to this data yet, but upon acceptance of our Stage 1 registered report, we will gain access to the complete dataset. Currently, we have access to an exploratory subset of the data that we use to demonstrate the feasibility of the study, but its limited number of target groups prevents conclusions from being made. We present a comparison of machine learning methods for the prediction of four quantitative traits in Arabidopsis thaliana. High prediction accuracies were achieved on individuals grown under standardized laboratory conditions from the 1001 Arabidopsis Genomes Project. An existing body of evidence suggests that linear models may be impeded by their inability to make use of non-additive effects to explain phenotypic variation at the population level. The results presented here use a nested cross-validation approach to confirm that some machine learning methods have the ability to statistically outperform linear prediction models, with the optimal model dependent on availability of training data and genetic architecture of the trait in question. Linear models were competitive in their performance as per previous work, though the neural network class of predictors was observed to be the most accurate and robust for traits with high heritability. The extent to which non-linear models exploit interaction effects will require further investigation of the causal pathways that lay behind their predictions. Future work utilizing more traits and larger sample sizes, combined with an improved understanding of their respective genetic architectures, may lead to improvements in prediction accuracy. The spotted lanternfly (Lycorma delicatula) has recently spread from its native range to several other countries and forecasts predict that it may become a global invasive pest. In particular, since its confirmed presence in the United States in 2014 it has established itself as a major invasive pest in the Mid-Atlantic region where it is damaging both naturally occurring and commercially important farmed plants. Quarantine zones have been introduced to contain the infestation, but the spread to new areas continues. At present the pathways and drivers of spread are not well-understood. In particular, several human activity related factors have been proposed to contribute to the spread; however, which features of the current spread can be attributed to these factors remains unclear. Here we collect county level data on infestation status and four specific human activity related factors and use statistical methods to determine whether there is evidence for an association between the factors and infestation. Then we construct a network model based on the factors found to be associated with infestation and use it to simulate local spread. We find that the model reproduces key features of the spread 2014 to 2021. In particular, the growth of the main infestation region and the opening of spread corridors in the westward and southwestern directions is consistent with data and the model accurately forecasts the correct infestation status at the county level in 2021 with 81% accuracy. We then use the model to forecast the spread up to 2025 in a larger region. Given that this model is based on a few human activity related factors that can be targeted, it may prove useful to incorporate it into more elaborate predictive forecasting models and in informing management efforts focused on interstate highway transport and garden centers in the US and potentially for current and future invasions elsewhere globally. Climate change mitigation necessitates increased investment in green sectors. This study proposes a methodology to predict green finance growth across various countries, aiming to encourage such investments. Our approach leverages time-series Conditional Generative Adversarial Networks (CT-GANs) for data augmentation and Nonlinear Autoregressive Neural Networks (NARNNs) for prediction. The green finance growth predicting model was applied to datasets collected from forty countries across five continents. The Augmented Dickey-Fuller (ADF) test confirmed the non-stationary nature of the data, supporting the use of Nonlinear Autoregressive Neural Networks (NARNNs). CT-GANs were then employed to augment the data for improved prediction accuracy. Results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed model. NARNNs trained with CT-GAN augmented data achieved superior performance across all regions, with R-squared (R2) values of 98.8%, 96.6%, and 99% for Europe, Asia, and other countries respectively. While the RMSE for Europe, Asia, and other countries are 1.26e+2, 2.16e+2, and 1.16e+2 respectively. Compared to a baseline NARNN model without augmentation, CT-GAN augmentation significantly improved both R2 and RMSE. The R2 values for the Europe, Asia, and other countries models are 96%, 73%, and 97.2%, respectively. The RMSE values for the Europe, Asia, and various countries models are 2.24e+2, 7e+2, and 2.07e+2, respectively. The Nonlinear Autoregressive Exogenous Neural Network (NARX-NN) exhibited significantly lower performance across Europe, Asia, and other countries with R2 values of 74%, 52%, and 86%, and RMSE values of 1.11e+2, 3.63e+2, and 1.8e+2, respectively. Objective: The aim was to develop a predictive tool for anticipating postpartum endometritis occurrences and to devise strategies for prevention and control. Methods: Employing a retrospective approach, the baseline data of 200 women diagnosed with postpartum endometritis in a tertiary maternity hospital in Zhejiang Province, spanning from February 2020 to September 2022, was examined. Simultaneously, the baseline data of 1,000 women without endometritis during the same period were explored with a 1:5 ratio. Subsequently, 1,200 women were randomly allocated into a training group dataset and a test group dataset, adhering to a 7:3 split. The selection of risk factors for postpartum endometritis involved employing random forests, lasso regression, and traditional univariate and multifactor logistic regression on the training group dataset. A nomogram was then constructed based on these factors. The model's performance was assessed using the area under the curve (AUC), calculated through plotting the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. Additionally, the Brier score was employed to evaluate the model with a calibration curve. To gauge the utility of the nomogram, a clinical impact curve (CIC) analysis was conducted. This comprehensive approach not only involved identifying risk factors but also included a visual representation (nomogram) and thorough evaluation metrics, ensuring a robust tool for predicting, preventing, and controlling postpartum endometritis. Results: In the multivariate analysis, six factors were identified as being associated with the occurrence of maternal endometritis in the postpartum period. These factors include the number of negative finger tests (OR: 1.159; 95%CI: 1.091–1.233; P < 0.05), postpartum hemorrhage (1.003; 1.002–1.005; P < 0.05), pre-eclampsia (9.769; 4.64–21.155; P < 0.05), maternity methods (2.083; 1.187–3.7; P < 0.001), prenatal reproductive tract culture (2.219; 1.411–3.47; P < 0.05), and uterine exploration (0.441; 0.233–0.803; P < 0.001).A nomogram was then constructed based on these factors, and its predictive performance was assessed using the area under the curve (AUC). The results in both the training group data (AUC: 0.803) and the test group data (AUC: 0.788) demonstrated a good predictive value. The clinical impact curve (CIC) further highlighted the clinical utility of the nomogram. Conclusion: The development of an individualized nomogram for postpartum endometritis infection holds promise for doctors in screening high-risk women, enabling early intervention and ultimately reducing the rate of postpartum endometritis infection. High-throughput technologies have generated vast amounts of omic data. It is a consensus that the integration of diverse omics sources improves predictive models and biomarker discovery. However, managing multiple omics data poses challenges such as data heterogeneity, noise, high-dimensionality and missing data, especially in block-wise patterns. This study addresses the challenges of high dimensionality and block-wise missing data through a regularization and constrained-based approach. The methodology is implemented in the R package bwm for binary and continuous response variables, and applied to breast cancer and exposome multi-omics datasets, achieving strong performance even in scenarios with missing data present in all omics. In binary classification task, our proposed model achieves accuracy in the range of 86% to 92%, and F1 in the range of 68% to 79%. And, in regression task the correlation between true and predicted responses is in the range of 72% to 76%. However, there is a slight decline in performance metrics as the percentage of missing data increases. In scenarios where block-wise missing data affects multiple omics, the model performance actually surpasses that of scenarios where missing data is present in only one omics. One possible explanation for this might be that the other scenarios introduce a greater diversity of observation profiles, leading to a more robust model. Suicide among the older population is a significant public health concern in South Korea. As the older individuals have long considered suicide before committing suicide trials, it is important to analyze the suicidal ideation that precedes the suicide attempt for intervention. In this study, six machine learning algorithms were employed to construct a predictive model for suicidal thinking and identify key variables. A traditional logistic regression analysis was supplementarily conducted to test the robustness of the results of machine learning. All analyses were conducted using a hierarchical approach to compare the model fit of each model in both machine learning and logistic regression. Three models were established for analysis. In Model 1, socioeconomic, residential, and health behavioral factors were incorporated. Model 2 expanded upon Model 1 by integrating physical health status, and Model 3 further incorporated mental health conditions. The results indicated that the gradient boosting algorithm outperformed the other machine learning techniques. Furthermore, the household income quintile was the most important feature in Model 1, followed by subjective health status, oral health, and exercise ability in Model 2, and anxiety and depression in Model 3. These results correspond to those of the hierarchical logistic regression. Notably, economic and residential vulnerabilities are significant factors in the mental health of the older population with higher instances of suicidal thoughts. Child maltreatment is a widespread problem with significant costs for both victims and society. In this retrospective cohort study, we develop predictive risk models using Danish administrative data to predict removal decisions among referred children and assess the effectiveness of caseworkers in identifying children at risk of maltreatment. The study analyzes 195,639 referrals involving 102,309 children Danish Child Protection Services received from April 2016 to December 2017. We implement four machine learning models of increasing complexity, incorporating extensive background information on each child and their family. Our best-performing model exhibits robust predictive power, with an AUC-ROC score exceeding 87%, indicating its ability to consistently rank referred children based on their likelihood of being removed. Additionally, we find strong positive correlations between the model's predictions and various adverse child outcomes, such as crime, physical and mental health issues, and school absenteeism. Furthermore, we demonstrate that predictive risk models can enhance caseworkers' decision-making processes by reducing classification errors and identifying at-risk children at an earlier stage, enabling timely interventions and potentially improving outcomes for vulnerable children. The aim of this study was to develop clinical predictor tools for guiding the use of computed tomography (CT) head scans in non-traumatic Thai patients presented with seizure. A prediction model using a retrospective cross-sectional design was conducted. We recruited adult patients (aged ≥ 18 years) who had been diagnosed with seizures by their physicians and had undergone CT head scans for further investigation. Positive CT head defined as the presence of any new lesion that related to the patient's presented seizure officially reported by radiologist. A total of 9 candidate predictors were preselected. The prediction model was developed using a full multivariable logistic regression with backward stepwise elimination. We evaluated the model's predictive performance in terms of its discriminative ability and calibration via AuROC and calibration plot. The application was then constructed based on final model. A total of 362 patients were included into the analysis which comprising of 71 patients with positive CT head findings and 291 patients with normal results. Six final predictors were identified including: Glasgow coma scale, the presence of focal neurological deficit, history of malignancy, history of CVA, Epilepsy, and the presence of alcohol withdrawal symptom. In terms of discriminative ability, the final model demonstrated excellent performance (AuROC of 0.82 (95% CI: 0.76–0.87)). The calibration plot illustrated a good agreement between observed and predicted risks. This prediction model offers a reliable tool for effectively reduce unnecessary use and instill confidence in supporting physicians in determining the need for CT head scans in non-traumatic patients with seizures. Distributed power generation systems may necessitate connecting multiple independent energy sources that employ various converter topologies. A recent development in this field is the emergence of impedance source converters, offering the ability to deliver buck-boost functionality within a single stage. The split-source inverter (SSI) has been introduced as a novel choice in between this family. Many control strategies have emerged for electrical power systems control. Among the recent emerging controllers, model predictive control strategies have become an effective technique for control systems. Model predictive controllers (MPCs) offer a number of features compared to the conventional and counterpart models such as enhanced system response and improved system transients with reduced steady-state error. This research suggests a finite control-set MPC for three-phase single-stage SSI supporting a standalone load for remote area applications. Considering the proposed FCS-MPC, the output load current tracks its reference magnitude with minimized error. In addition, the proposed FCS-MPC enhances the proposed SSI system performance with a settling time of 10 μs, and approximately without overshoot in the output current. The system has been validated using Opal-RT OP-4510 and the power loss model of the inverter has been explained. The Precautionary Approach to Fisheries Management requires an assessment of the impact of uncertainty on the risk of achieving management objectives. However, the main quantities, such as spawning stock biomass (SSB) and fish mortality (F), used in management metrics cannot be directly observed. This requires the use of models to provide guidance, for which there are three paradigms: the best assessment, model ensemble, and Management Strategy Evaluation (MSE). It is important to validate the models used to provide advice. In this study, we demonstrate how stock assessment models can be validated using a diagnostic toolbox, with a specific focus on prediction skill. Prediction skill measures the precision of a predicted value, which is unknown to the model, in relation to its observed value. By evaluating the accuracy of model predictions against observed data, prediction skill establishes an objective framework for accepting or rejecting model hypotheses, as well as for assigning weights to models within an ensemble. Our analysis uncovers the limitations of traditional stock assessment methods. Through the quantification of uncertainties and the integration of multiple models, our objective is to improve the reliability of management advice considering the complex interplay of factors that influence the dynamics of fish stocks. Objectives: Fertility-sparing treatment (FST) might be considered an option for reproductive patients with low-risk endometrial cancer (EC). On the other hand, the matching rates between preoperative assessment and postoperative pathology in low-risk EC patients are not high enough. We aimed to predict the postoperative pathology depending on preoperative myometrial invasion (MI) and grade in low-risk EC patients to help extend the current criteria for FST. Methods/Materials: This ancillary study (KGOG 2015S) of Korean Gynecologic Oncology Group 2015, a prospective, multicenter study included patients with no MI or MI <1/2 on preoperative MRI and endometrioid adenocarcinoma and grade 1 or 2 on endometrial biopsy. Among the eligible patients, Groups 1–4 were defined with no MI and grade 1, no MI and grade 2, MI <1/2 and grade 1, and MI <1/2 and grade 2, respectively. New prediction models using machine learning were developed. Results: Among 251 eligible patients, Groups 1–4 included 106, 41, 74, and 30 patients, respectively. The new prediction models showed superior prediction values to those from conventional analysis. In the new prediction models, the best NPV, sensitivity, and AUC of preoperative each group to predict postoperative each group were as follows: 87.2%, 71.6%, and 0.732 (Group 1); 97.6%, 78.6%, and 0.656 (Group 2); 71.3%, 78.6% and 0.588 (Group 3); 91.8%, 64.9%, and 0.676% (Group 4). Purpose: The Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) among high school students includes standard questions about sexual identity and sex of sexual contacts, but these questions are not consistently included in every state that conducts the survey. This study aimed to develop and apply a method to predict state-level proportions of high school students identifying as lesbian, gay, or bisexual (LGB) or reporting any same-sex sexual contacts in those states that did not include these questions in their 2017 YRBS. Methods: We used state-level high school YRBS data from 2013, 2015, and 2017. We defined two primary outcomes relating to self-reported LGB identity and reported same-sex sexual contacts. We developed machine learning models to predict the two outcomes based on other YRBS variables, and comparing different modeling approaches. We used a leave-one-out cross-validation approach and report results from best-performing models. Results: Modern ensemble models outperformed traditional linear models at predicting state-level proportions for the two outcomes, and we identified prediction methods that performed well across different years and prediction tasks. Predicted proportions of respondents reporting LGB identity in states that did not include direct measurement ranged between 9.4% and 12.9%. Predicted proportions of respondents reporting any same-sex contacts, where not directly observed, ranged between 7.0% and 10.4%. Conclusion: Comparable population estimates of sexual minority adolescents can raise awareness among state policy makers and the public about what proportion of youth may be exposed to disparate health risks and outcomes associated with sexual minority status. Research has substantiated that the presence of outliers in data usually introduces additional errors and biases, which typically leads to a degradation in the precision of volatility forecasts. However, correcting outliers can mitigate these adverse effects. This study corrects the additive outliers through a weighting method and let these corrected values to replace the original outliers. Then, the model parameters are re-estimated based on this new return series. This approach reduces the extent to which outliers distort volatility estimates, allowing the model to better adapt to market conditions and improving the accuracy of volatility forecasts. This study introduces this approach for the first time to generalized autoregressive conditional heteroskedasticity mixed data sampling (GARCH-MIDAS) models, so as to establish an additional outliers corrected GARCH-MIDAS model (AO-GARCH-MIDAS). This pioneering approach marks a unique innovation. The research employs a diverse array of evaluation methods to validate the model's robustness and consistently demonstrates its dependable performance. Findings unequivocally reveal the substantial influence of outliers on the model's predictive capacity, with the AO-GARCH-MIDAS model exhibiting consistent superiority across all evaluation criteria. COVID-19 prediction has been essential in the aid of prevention and control of the disease. The motivation of this case study is to develop predictive models for COVID-19 cases and deaths based on a cross-sectional data set with a total of 28,955 observations and 18 variables, which is compiled from 5 data sources from Kaggle. A two-part modeling framework, in which the first part is a logistic classifier and the second part includes machine learning or statistical smoothing methods, is introduced to model the highly skewed distribution of COVID-19 cases and deaths. We also aim to understand what factors are most relevant to COVID-19's occurrence and fatality. Evaluation criteria such as root mean squared error (RMSE) and mean absolute error (MAE) are used. We find that the two-part XGBoost model perform best with predicting the entire distribution of COVID-19 cases and deaths. The aims of this study were to predict carcass and meat traits, as well as the chemical composition of the 9th to 11th rib sections of beef cattle from portable NIR spectra. The 9th to 11th rib section was obtained from 60 Nellore bulls and cull cows. NIR spectra were acquired at: P1 –center of Longissimus muscle; and P2 –subcutaneous fat cap. The models accurately estimated (P ≥ 0.083) all carcass and meat quality traits, except those for predicting red (a*) and yellow (b*) intensity from P1, and 12th-rib fat from P2. However, precision was highly variable among the models; those for the prediction of carcass pHu, 12th rib fat, toughness from P1, and those for 12th rib fat, a* and b* from P2 presented high precision (R2 ≥ 0.65 or CCC ≥ 0.63), whereas all other models evaluated presented moderate to low precision (R2 ≤ 0.39). Models built from P1 and P2 accurately estimated (P ≥ 0.066) the chemical composition of the meat plus fat, bones and, meat plus fat plus bones, except those for predicting the ether extract (EE) and crude protein (CP) of bones and the EE of Meat plus bones fraction from P2. However, precision was highly variable among the models (–0.08 ≤ R2 ≤ 0.86) of the 9th and 11th rib section. Those models for the prediction of dry matter (DM) and EE of the bones from P1; of EE from P1; and of EE, mineral matter (MM), CP from P2 of meat plus fat plus bones presented high precision (R2 ≥ 0.76 or CCC ≥ 0.62), whereas all other models evaluated presented moderate to low precision (R2 ≤ 0.45). Thus, models built from portable NIR spectra acquired at different points of the 9th to 11th rib section were recommended for predicting carcass and muscle quality traits as well as for predicting the chemical composition of this section of beef cattle. To construct and internally and externally validate a nomogram model for predicting the severity of acute pancreatitis (AP) based on the CT severity index (CTSI).A retrospective analysis of clinical data from 200 AP patients diagnosed at the Hefei Third Clinical College of Anhui Medical University from June 2019 to June 2022 was conducted. Patients were classified into non-severe acute pancreatitis (NSAP, n = 135) and severe acute pancreatitis (SAP, n = 65) based on final clinical diagnosis. Differences in CTSI, general clinical features, and laboratory indicators between the two groups were compared. The LASSO regression model was used to select variables that might affect the severity of AP, and these variables were analyzed using multivariate logistic regression. A nomogram model was constructed using R software, and its AUC value was calculated. The accuracy and practicality of the model were evaluated using calibration curves, Hosmer-Lemeshow test, and decision curve analysis (DCA), with internal validation performed using the bootstrap method. Finally, 60 AP patients treated in the same hospital from July 2022 to December 2023 were selected for external validation.LASSO regression identified CTSI, BUN, D-D, NLR, and Ascites as five predictive factors. Unconditional binary logistic regression analysis showed that CTSI (OR = 2.141, 95%CI:1.369–3.504), BUN (OR = 1.378, 95%CI:1.026–1.959), NLR (OR = 1.370, 95%CI:1.016–1.906), D-D (OR = 1.500, 95%CI:1.112–2.110), and Ascites (OR = 5.517, 95%CI:1.217–2.993) were independent factors influencing SAP. The established prediction model had a C-index of 0.962, indicating high accuracy. Calibration curves demonstrated good consistency between predicted survival rates and actual survival rates. The C-indexes for internal and external validation were 0.935 and 0.901, respectively, with calibration curves close to the ideal line.The model based on CTSI and clinical indicators can effectively predict the severity of AP, providing a scientific basis for clinical decision-making by physicians. Large differences in projected future annual precipitation increases in North America exists across 27 CMIP6 models under four emission scenarios. These differences partly arise from weak representations of land-atmosphere interactions. Here we demonstrate an emergent constraint relationship between annual growth rates of future precipitation and growth rates of historical temperature. The original CMIP6 projections show 0.49% (SSP126), 0.98% (SSP245), 1.45% (SSP370) and 1.92% (SSP585) increases in precipitation per decade. Combining observed warming trends, the constrained results show that the best estimates of future precipitation increases are more likely to reach 0.40–0.48%, 0.83–0.93%, 1.29–1.45% and 1.70–1.87% respectively, implying an overestimated future precipitation increases across North America. The constrained results also are narrow the corresponding uncertainties (standard deviations) by 13.8–31.1%. The overestimated precipitation growth rates also reveal an overvalued annual growth rates in temperature (6.0–13.2% or 0.12–0.37°C) and in total evaporation (4.8–14.5%) by the original models' predictions. These findings highlight the important role of temperature for accurate climate predictions, which is important as temperature from current climate models' simulations often still have systematic errors. This paper explores predicting early signals of business failure using modern models for bankruptcy prediction. It reviews how continuous operations enhance market value, strengthening competitiveness and reputation among stakeholders. The study involves medium and large companies in the Montenegrin market from 2015 to 2020, comprising 30 bankrupt and 70 financially stable firms. Logistic regression is also employed to create a logit model for early detection of bankruptcy signals in companies. This research establishes the empirical validity of modern models in predicting business failure in the Montenegrin market, particularly through logistic regression. Significant indicators, such as the Degree of Indebtedness (DI) and turnover ratio of business assets (TR), exhibit strong predictive power with a p-value less than 0.001 according to Likelihood ratio tests. The paper underscores the potential benefits of bankruptcy prediction for both internal and external stakeholders, especially investors, in enhancing the competitiveness of Montenegro's large and medium-sized companies. Notably, the research contributes by bridging the gap between theory and practice in Montenegro, as bankruptcy prediction models have not been extensively applied in the market. The authors suggest the possible applicability of the created logit model to neighboring countries with similar economic development levels. Whether 30-day modified Rankin Scale (mRS) scores can predict 90-day scores is unclear. This study derived and validated a model to predict ordinal 90-day mRS score in an intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) population using 30-day mRS values and routinely available baseline variables. Adults enrolled in the Antihypertensive Treatment of Acute Cerebral Hemorrhage-2 (ATACH-2) trial between May 2011 and September 2015 with acute ICH, who were alive at 30 days and had mRS scores reported at both 30 and 90 days were included in this post-hoc analysis. A proportional odds regression model for predicting ordinal 90-day mRS scores was developed and internally validated using bootstrapping. Variables in the model included: mRS score at 30 days, age (years), hematoma volume (cm3), hematoma location (deep [basal ganglia, thalamus], lobar, or infratentorial), presence of intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH), baseline Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) score, and National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) score at randomization. We assessed model fit, calibration, discrimination, and agreement (ordinal, dichotomized functional independence), and EuroQol-5D ([EQ-5D] utility weighted) between predicted and observed 90-day mRS. A total of 898/1000 participants were included. Following bootstrap internal validation, our model (calibration slope = 0.967) had an optimism-corrected c-index of 0.884 (95% CI = 0.873–0.896) and R2 = 0.712 for 90-day mRS score. The weighted ĸ for agreement between observed and predicted ordinal 90-day mRS score was 0.811 (95% CI = 0.787–0.834). Agreement between observed and predicted functional independence (mRS score of 0–2) at 90 days was 74.3% (95% CI = 69.9–78.7%). The mean ± SD absolute difference between predicted and observed EQ-5D–weighted mRS score was negligible (0.005 ± 0.145). This tool allows practitioners and researchers to utilize clinically available information along with the mRS score 30 days after ICH to reliably predict the mRS score at 90 days. New vertebral compression fractures (NVCF) are common in patients with osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures (OVCF) who have undergone percutaneous vertebroplasty (PVP). We sought to develop a nomogram prediction model for better identification and prevention of NVCF within 3 years after PVP in patients with OVCF. The demographic, clinical, and imaging data of patients who underwent PVP for OVCF between January 2010 and December 2019 were reviewed. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to screen for risk factors for NVCF within 3 years after PVP. A nomogram prediction model was then developed and validated to visually predict NVCF. The samples in the model were randomly divided into training and validation sets at a ratio of 7:3. Twenty-seven percent of patients experienced NVCF in other segments within 3 years after PVP. Older age, lower bone mineral density (BMD), smoking, lack of anti-osteoporosis therapy, and postoperative trauma were risk factors for NVCF. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve suggested good discrimination of this model: training set (0.781, 95% confidence interval: 0.731–0.831) and validation set (0.786, 95% confidence interval: 0.708–0.863). The calibration curve suggested good prediction accuracy between the actual and predicted probabilities in the training and validation sets. The DCA results suggested that, when the probability thresholds were 0.0452–08394 and 0.0336–0.7262 in the training and validation set, respectively, patients can benefit from using this model to predict NVCF within 3 years after PVP. In conclusion, this nomogram prediction model that included five risk factors (older age, lower BMD, smoking, postoperative minor trauma, and lack of anti-osteoporosis treatment can effectively predict NVCF within 3 years after PVP. Postoperative smoking cessation, standard anti-osteoporosis treatment, and reduction in incidental minor trauma are necessary and effective means of reducing the incidence of NVCF. Background and aims: Population-based screening for gastric cancer (GC) in low prevalence nations is not recommended. The objective of this study was to develop a risk-prediction model to identify high-risk patients who could potentially benefit from targeted screening in a racial/ethnically diverse regional US population. Methods: We performed a retrospective cohort study from Kaiser Permanente Southern California from January 2008-June 2018 among individuals age ≥50 years. Patients with prior GC or follow-up <30 days were excluded. Censoring occurred at GC, death, age 85 years, disenrollment, end of 5-year follow-up, or study conclusion. Cross-validated LASSO regression models were developed to identify the strongest of 20 candidate predictors (clinical, demographic, and laboratory parameters). Records from 12 of the medical service areas were used for training/initial validation while records from a separate medical service area were used for testing. Results: 1,844,643 individuals formed the study cohort (1,555,392 training and validation, 289,251 testing). Mean age was 61.9 years with 53.3% female. GC incidence was 2.1 (95% CI 2.0–2.2) cases per 10,000 person-years (pyr). Higher incidence was seen with family history: 4.8/10,000 pyr, history of gastric ulcer: 5.3/10,000 pyr, H. pylori: 3.6/10,000 pyr and anemia: 5.3/10,000 pyr. The final model included age, gender, race/ethnicity, smoking, proton-pump inhibitor, family history of gastric cancer, history of gastric ulcer, H. pylori infection, and baseline hemoglobin. The means and standard deviations (SD) of c-index in validation and testing datasets were 0.75 (SD 0.03) and 0.76 (SD 0.02), respectively. Conclusions: This prediction model may serve as an aid for pre-endoscopic assessment of GC risk for identification of a high-risk population that could benefit from targeted screening. Background: The workload of breast cancer pathological diagnosis is very heavy. The purpose of this study is to establish a nomogram model based on pathological images to predict the benign and malignant nature of breast diseases and to validate its predictive performance. Methods: In retrospect, a total of 2,723 H&E-stained pathological images were collected from 1,474 patients at Qingdao Central Hospital between 2019 and 2022. The dataset consisted of 509 benign tumor images (adenosis and fibroadenoma) and 2,214 malignant tumor images (infiltrating ductal carcinoma). The images were divided into a training set (1,907) and a validation set (816). Python3.7 was used to extract the values of the R channel, G channel, B channel, and one-dimensional information entropy from all images. Multivariable logistic regression was used to select variables and establish the breast tissue pathological image prediction model. Results: The R channel value, B channel value, and one-dimensional information entropy of the images were identified as independent predictive factors for the classification of benign and malignant pathological images (P < 0.05). The area under the curve (AUC) of the nomogram model in the training set was 0.889 (95% CI: 0.869, 0.909), and the AUC in the validation set was 0.838 (95% CI: 0.7980.877). The calibration curve results showed that the calibration curve of this nomogram model was close to the ideal curve. The decision curve results indicated that the predictive model curve had a high value for auxiliary diagnosis. Conclusion: The nomogram model for the prediction of benign and malignant breast diseases based on pathological images demonstrates good predictive performance. Deep learning models struggle to effectively capture data features and make accurate predictions because of the strong non-linear characteristics of arbitrage data. Therefore, to fully exploit the model performance, researchers have focused on network structure and hyperparameter selection using various swarm intelligence algorithms for optimization. Sparrow Search Algorithm (SSA), a classic heuristic method that simulates the sparrows' foraging and anti-predatory behavior, has demonstrated excellent performance in various optimization problems. Hence, in this study, the Multi-Strategy Modified Sparrow Search Algorithm (MSMSSA) is applied to the Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) network to construct an arbitrage spread prediction model (MSMSSA-LSTM). In the modified algorithm, the good point set theory, the proportion-adaptive strategy, and the improved location update method are introduced to further enhance the spatial exploration capability of the sparrow. The proposed model was evaluated using the real spread data of rebar and hot coil futures in the Chinese futures market. The obtained results showed that the mean absolute percentage error, root mean square error, and mean absolute error of the proposed model had decreased by a maximum of 58.5%, 65.2%, and 67.6% compared to several classical models. Background: The global evolution of pre-hospital care systems faces dynamic challenges, particularly in multinational settings. Machine learning (ML) techniques enable the exploration of deeply embedded data patterns for improved patient care and resource optimisation. This study's objective was to accurately predict cases that necessitated transportation versus those that did not, using ML techniques, thereby facilitating efficient resource allocation. Methods: ML algorithms were utilised to predict patient transport decisions in a Middle Eastern national pre-hospital emergency medical care provider. A comprehensive dataset comprising 93,712 emergency calls from the 999-call centre was analysed using R programming language. Demographic and clinical variables were incorporated to enhance predictive accuracy. Random Forest (RF), Support Vector Machine (SVM), Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost), and Adaptive Boosting (AdaBoost) algorithms were trained and validated. Results: All the trained algorithm models, particularly XGBoost (Accuracy = 83.1%), correctly predicted patients' transportation decisions. Further, they indicated statistically significant patterns that could be leveraged for targeted resource deployment. Moreover, the specificity rates were high; 97.96% in RF and 95.39% in XGBoost, minimising the incidence of incorrectly identified "Transported" cases (False Positive). Conclusion: The study identified the transformative potential of ML algorithms in enhancing the quality of pre-hospital care in Qatar. The high predictive accuracy of the employed models suggested actionable avenues for day and time-specific resource planning and patient triaging, thereby having potential to contribute to pre-hospital quality, safety, and value improvement. Purpose: The purposes of this study were to determine whether biomechanical properties of mature oocytes could predict usable blastocyst formation better than morphological information or maternal factors, and to demonstrate the safety of the aspiration measurement procedure used to determine the biomechanical properties of oocytes. Methods: A prospective split cohort study was conducted with patients from two IVF clinics who underwent in vitro fertilization. Each patient's oocytes were randomly divided into a measurement group and a control group. The aspiration depth into a micropipette was measured, and the biomechanical properties were derived. Oocyte fertilization, day 3 morphology, and blastocyst development were observed and compared between measured and unmeasured cohorts. A predictive classifier was trained to predict usable blastocyst formation and compared to the predictions of four experienced embryologists. Results: 68 patients and their corresponding 1252 oocytes were included in the study. In the safety analyses, there was no significant difference between the cohorts for fertilization, while the day 3 and 5 embryo development were not negatively affected. Four embryologists predicted usable blastocyst development based on oocyte morphology with an average accuracy of 44% while the predictive classifier achieved an accuracy of 71%. Retaining the variables necessary for normal fertilization, only data from successfully fertilized oocytes were used, resulting in a classifier an accuracy of 81%. Conclusions: To date, there is no standard guideline or technique to aid in the selection of oocytes that have a higher likelihood of developing into usable blastocysts, which are chosen for transfer or vitrification. This study provides a comprehensive workflow of extracting biomechanical properties and building a predictive classifier using these properties to predict mature oocytes' developmental potential. The classifier has greater accuracy in predicting the formation of usable blastocysts than the predictions provided by morphological information or maternal factors. The measurement procedure did not negatively affect embryo culture outcomes. Background: Healthcare providers currently calculate risk of the composite outcome of morbidity or mortality associated with a coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) surgery through manual input of variables into a logistic regression-based risk calculator. This study indicates that automated artificial intelligence (AI)-based techniques can instead calculate risk. Specifically, we present novel numerical embedding techniques that enable NLP (natural language processing) models to achieve higher performance than the risk calculator using a single preoperative surgical note. Methods: The most recent preoperative surgical consult notes of 1,738 patients who received an isolated CABG from July 1, 2014 to November 1, 2022 at a single institution were analyzed. The primary outcome was the Society of Thoracic Surgeons defined composite outcome of morbidity or mortality (MM). We tested three numerical-embedding techniques on the widely used TextCNN classification model: 1a) Basic embedding, treat numbers as word tokens; 1b) Basic embedding with a dataloader that Replaces out-of-context (ROOC) numbers with a tag, where context is defined as within a number of tokens of specified keywords; 2) ScaleNum, an embedding technique that scales in-context numbers via a learned sigmoid-linear-log function; and 3) AttnToNum, a ScaleNum-derivative that updates the ScaleNum embeddings via multi-headed attention applied to local context. Predictive performance was measured via area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) on holdout sets from 10 random-split experiments. For eXplainable-AI (X-AI), we calculate SHapley Additive exPlanation (SHAP) values at an ngram resolution (SHAP-N). While the analyses focus on TextCNN, we execute an analogous performance pipeline with a long short-term memory (LSTM) model to test if the numerical embedding advantage is robust to model architecture. Results: A total of 567 (32.6%) patients had MM following CABG. The embedding performances are as follows with the TextCNN architecture: 1a) Basic, mean AUC 0.788 [95% CI (confidence interval): 0.768–0.809]; 1b) ROOC, 0.801 [CI: 0.788–0.815]; 2) ScaleNum, 0.808 [CI: 0.785–0.821]; and 3) AttnToNum, 0.821 [CI: 0.806–0.834]. The LSTM architecture produced a similar trend. Permutation tests indicate that AttnToNum outperforms the other embedding techniques, though not statistically significant verse ScaleNum (p-value of.07). SHAP-N analyses indicate that the model learns to associate low blood urine nitrate (BUN) and creatinine values with survival. A correlation analysis of the attention-updated numerical embeddings indicates that AttnToNum learns to incorporate both number magnitude and local context to derive semantic similarities. Conclusion: This research presents both quantitative and clinical novel contributions. Quantitatively, we contribute two new embedding techniques: AttnToNum and ScaleNum. Both can embed strictly positive and bounded numerical values, and both surpass basic embeddings in predictive performance. The results suggest AttnToNum outperforms ScaleNum. With regards to clinical research, we show that AI methods can predict outcomes after CABG using a single preoperative note at a performance that matches or surpasses the current risk calculator. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of the corneal back surface by comparing the keratometric astigmatism (K, derived from the corneal front surface) of a modern optical biometer against astigmatism of Total Keratometry (TK, derived from both corneal surfaces) in a large population with cataractous eyes. The results were then used to define linear prediction models to map K to TK. Methods: From a large dataset containing bilateral biometric measurements (IOLMaster 700) in 9736 patients prior to cataract surgery, the total corneal astigmatism was decomposed into vectors for K, corneal back surface (BS), and TK. A multivariate prediction model (MV), simplified model with separation of vector components (SM) and a constant model (CM) were defined to map K to TK vector components. Results: The K centroid (X/Y) showed some astigmatism with-the-rule (0.1981/-0.0211 dioptre (dpt)) whereas the TK centroid was located around zero (-0.0071/-0.0381 dpt against-the-rule) and the BS centroid showed systematic astigmatism against-the-rule (-0.2367/-0.0145 dpt). The respective TK–K centroid was located at -0.2052/-0.0302 dpt. The MV model showed the same performance (i.e. mean absolute residuum) as the SM did (0.1098 and 0.1099 dpt respectively) while the CM performed only slightly worse (0.1121 dpt mean absolute residuum). Conclusion: In cases where tomographic data are unavailable statistical models could be used to consider the overall contribution of the back surface to the total corneal astigmatism. Analyzing COVID-19 predictions at pandemic beginning emerged a question: how much data is needed to make reliable predictions? When does the volume of data provide a better understanding of the disease's evolution and, in turn, offer reliable forecasts? Given these questions, the objective of this study is to analyze learning curves obtained from predicting the incidence of COVID-19 in Brazilian States using ARIMA models with limited available data. To fulfill the objective, a retrospective exploration of COVID-19 incidence across the Brazilian States was performed. After the data acquisition and modeling, the model errors were assessed by employing a learning curve analysis. The asymptotic exponential curve fitting enabled the evaluation of the errors in different points, reflecting the increased available data over time. For a comprehensive understanding of the results at distinct stages of the time evolution, the average derivative of the curves and the equilibrium points were calculated, aimed to identify the convergence of the ARIMA models to a stable pattern. We observed differences in average derivatives and equilibrium values among the multiple samples. While both metrics ultimately confirmed the convergence to stability, the equilibrium points were more sensitive to changes in the models' accuracy and provided a better indication of the learning progress. The proposed method for constructing learning curves enabled consistent monitoring of prediction results, providing evidence-based understandings required for informed decision-making. Purpose: To explore the feasibility and validity of machine learning models in determining causality in medical malpractice cases and to try to increase the scientificity and reliability of identification opinions. Methods: We collected 13,245 written judgments from PKULAW.COM, a public database. 963 cases were included after the initial screening. 21 medical and ten patient factors were selected as characteristic variables by summarising previous literature and cases. Random Forest, eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) and Light Gradient Boosting Machine (LightGBM) were used to establish prediction models of causality for the two data sets, respectively. Finally, the optimal model is obtained by hyperparameter tuning of the six models. Results: We built three real data set models and three virtual data set models by three algorithms, and their confusion matrices differed. XGBoost performed best in the real data set, with a model accuracy of 66%. In the virtual data set, the performance of XGBoost and LightGBM was basically the same, and the model accuracy rate was 80%. The overall accuracy of external verification was 72.7%. The performance of the defect prediction model by using balanced and imbalanced datasets makes a big impact on the discovery of future defects. Current resampling techniques only address the imbalanced datasets without taking into consideration redundancy and noise inherent to the imbalanced datasets. To address the imbalance issue, we propose Kernel Crossover Oversampling (KCO), an oversampling technique based on kernel analysis and crossover interpolation. Specifically, the proposed technique aims to generate balanced datasets by increasing data diversity in order to reduce redundancy and noise. KCO first represents multidimensional features into two-dimensional features by employing Kernel Principal Component Analysis (KPCA). KCO then divides the plotted data distribution by deploying spectral clustering to select the best region for interpolation. Lastly, KCO generates the new defect data by interpolating different data templates within the selected data clusters. According to the prediction evaluation conducted, KCO consistently produced F-scores ranging from 21% to 63% across six datasets, on average. According to the experimental results presented in this study, KCO provides more effective prediction performance than other baseline techniques. More than 60% of suicides globally are estimated to take place in low- and middle-income nations. Prior research on suicide has indicated that over 50% of those who die by suicide do so on their first attempt. Nevertheless, there is a dearth of knowledge on the attributes of individuals who die on their first attempt and the factors that can predict mortality on the first attempt in these regions. The objective of this study was to create an individual-level risk-prediction model for mortality on the first suicide attempt. We analyzed records of individuals' first suicide attempts that occurred between May 1, 2017, and April 30, 2018, from the national suicide surveillance system, which includes all of the provinces of Thailand. Subsequently, a risk-prediction model for mortality on the first suicide attempt was constructed utilizing multivariable logistic regression and presented through a web-based application. The model's performance was assessed by calculating the area under the receiver operating curve (AUC), as well as measuring its sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy. Out of the 3,324 individuals who made their first suicide attempt, 50.5% of them died as a result of that effort. Nine out of the 21 potential predictors demonstrated the greatest predictive capability. These included male sex, age over 50 years old, unemployment, having a depressive disorder, having a psychotic illness, experiencing interpersonal problems such as being aggressively criticized or desiring plentiful attention, having suicidal intent, and displaying suicidal warning signals. The model demonstrated a good predictive capability, with an AUC of 0.902, a sensitivity of 84.65%, a specificity of 82.66%, and an accuracy of 83.63%. The COVID-19 pandemic has been present globally for more than three years, and cross-border transmission has played an important role in its spread. Currently, most predictions of COVID-19 spread are limited to a country (or a region), and models for cross-border transmission risk assessment remain lacking. Information on imported COVID-19 cases reported from March 2020 to June 2022 was collected from the National Health Commission of China, and COVID-19 epidemic data of the countries of origin of the imported cases were collected on data websites such as WHO and Our World in Data. It is proposed to establish a prediction model suitable for the prevention and control of overseas importation of COVID-19. Firstly, the SIR model was used to fit the epidemic infection status of the countries where the cases were exported, and most of the r2 values of the fitted curves obtained were above 0.75, which indicated that the SIR model could well fit different countries and the infection status of the region. After fitting the epidemic infection status data of overseas exporting countries, on this basis, a SIR-multiple linear regression overseas import risk prediction combination model was established, which can predict the risk of overseas case importation, and the established overseas import risk model overall P <0.05, the adjusted R2 = 0.7, indicating that the SIR-multivariate linear regression overseas import risk prediction combination model can obtain better prediction results. Traffic accidents remain a leading cause of fatalities, injuries, and significant disruptions on highways. Comprehending the contributing factors to these occurrences is paramount in enhancing safety on road networks. Recent studies have demonstrated the utility of predictive modeling in gaining insights into the factors that precipitate accidents. However, there has been a dearth of focus on explaining the inner workings of complex machine learning and deep learning models and the manner in which various features influence accident prediction models. As a result, there is a risk that these models may be seen as black boxes, and their findings may not be fully trusted by stakeholders. The main objective of this study is to create predictive models using various transfer learning techniques and to provide insights into the most impactful factors using Shapley values. To predict the severity of injuries in accidents, Multilayer Perceptron (MLP), Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), Residual Networks (ResNet), EfficientNetB4, InceptionV3, Extreme Inception (Xception), and MobileNet are employed. Among the models, the MobileNet showed the highest results with 98.17% accuracy. Additionally, by understanding how different features affect accident prediction models, researchers can gain a deeper understanding of the factors that contribute to accidents and develop more effective interventions to prevent them. Background and purpose: Mean pulmonary artery pressure (mPAP) is a key index for chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH). Using machine learning, we attempted to construct an accurate prediction model for mPAP in patients with CTEPH. Methods: A total of 136 patients diagnosed with CTEPH were included, for whom mPAP was measured. The following patient data were used as explanatory variables in the model: basic patient information (age and sex), blood tests (brain natriuretic peptide (BNP)), echocardiography (tricuspid valve pressure gradient (TRPG)), and chest radiography (cardiothoracic ratio (CTR), right second arc ratio, and presence of avascular area). Seven machine learning methods including linear regression were used for the multivariable prediction models. Additionally, prediction models were constructed using the AutoML software. Among the 136 patients, 2/3 and 1/3 were used as training and validation sets, respectively. The average of R squared was obtained from 10 different data splittings of the training and validation sets. Results: The optimal machine learning model was linear regression (averaged R squared, 0.360). The optimal combination of explanatory variables with linear regression was age, BNP level, TRPG level, and CTR (averaged R squared, 0.388). The R squared of the optimal multivariable linear regression model was higher than that of the univariable linear regression model with only TRPG. Conclusion: We constructed a more accurate prediction model for mPAP in patients with CTEPH than a model of TRPG only. There are global efforts to deploy Electric Vehicles (EVs) because of the role they promise to play in energy transition. These efforts underscore the e-mobility paradigm, representing an interplay between renewable energy resources, smart technologies, and networked transportation. However, there are concerns that these initiatives could burden the electricity grid due to increased demand. Hence, the need for accurate short-term load forecasting is pivotal for the efficient planning, operation, and control of the grid and associated power systems. This study presents robust models for forecasting half-hourly and hourly loads in the UK's power system. The work leverages machine learning techniques such as Support Vector Regression (SVR), Artificial Neural Networks (ANN), and Gaussian Process Regression (GPR) to develop robust prediction models using the net imports dataset from 2010 to 2020. The models were evaluated based on metrics like Root Mean Square Error (RMSE), Mean Absolute Prediction Error (MAPE), Mean Absolute Deviation (MAD), and the Correlation of Determination (R2). For half-hourly forecasts, SVR performed best with an R-value of 99.85%, followed closely by GPR and ANN. But, for hourly forecasts, ANN led with an R-value of 99.71%. The findings affirm the reliability and precision of machine learning methods in short-term load forecasting, particularly highlighting the superior accuracy of the SVR model for half-hourly forecasts and the ANN model for hourly forecasts. The enhancement of digital transformation is of paramount importance for business development. This study employs machine learning to establish a predictive model for digital transformation, investigates crucial factors that influence digital transformation, and proposes corresponding improvement strategies. Initially, four commonly used machine learning algorithms are compared, revealing that the Extreme tree classification (ETC) algorithm exhibits the most accurate prediction. Subsequently, through correlation analysis and recursive elimination, key features that impact digital transformation are selected resulting in the corresponding feature subset. Shapley Additive Explanation (SHAP) values are then employed to perform an interpretable analysis on the predictive model, elucidating the effects of each key feature on digital transformation and obtaining critical feature values. Lastly, informed by practical considerations, we propose a quantitative adjustment strategy to enhance the degree of digital transformation in enterprises, which provides guidance for digital development. Recommender system has made great strides in two major research fields, rating prediction and Top-k recommendation. In essence, rating prediction is a regression task, which aims to predict users scores on other items, while Top-k is a classification task selecting the items that users have the most potential to interact with. Both characterize users and items, but the optimization of parameters varies widely for their respective tasks. Inspired by the idea of transfer learning, we consider extracting the information learned from rating prediction models for serving for Top-k tasks. To this end, we propose a universal transfer model for recommender systems. The transfer model consists of two sub-components: quadruple-based Bayesian Converter (BC) and Prediction-based Multi-Layer Perceptron (PMLP). As the main part, BC is responsible for transforming the feature vectors extracted from the rating prediction model. Meanwhile, PMLP extracts the prediction ratings, constructs the prediction rating matrix, and uses multi-layer perceptron to enhance the final performance. On four benchmark datasets, we use the information extracted from the singular value decomposition plus plus (SVD++) model to demonstrate the effectiveness of BC-PMLP, comparing to classical and state-of-the-art baselines. Neoantigens are tumor-derived peptides and are biomarkers that can predict prognosis related to immune checkpoint inhibition by estimating their binding to major histocompatibility complex (MHC) proteins. Although deep neural networks have been primarily used for these prediction models, it is difficult to interpret the models reported thus far as accurately representing the interactions between biomolecules. In this study, we propose the GraphMHC model, which utilizes a graph neural network model applied to molecular structure to simulate the binding between MHC proteins and peptide sequences. Amino acid sequences sourced from the immune epitope database (IEDB) undergo conversion into molecular structures. Subsequently, atomic intrinsic informations and inter-atomic connections are extracted and structured as a graph representation. Stacked graph attention and convolution layers comprise the GraphMHC network which classifies bindings. The prediction results from the test set using the GraphMHC model showed a high performance with an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of 92.2% (91.9-92.5%), surpassing a baseline model. Moreover, by applying the GraphMHC model to melanoma patient data from The Cancer Genome Atlas project, we found a borderline difference (0.061) in overall survival and a significant difference in stromal score between the high and low neoantigen load groups. This distinction was not present in the baseline model. This study presents the first feature-intrinsic method based on biochemical molecular structure for modeling the binding between MHC protein sequences and neoantigen candidate peptide sequences. Mining wastewater with heavy metals poses a serious threat to the ecological environment. However, the acute single and combined ecological effects of heavy metals, such as chromium (Cr) and nickel (Ni), on freshwater ostracods, and the development of relevant prediction models, remain poorly understood. In this study, Heterocypris sp. was chosen to investigate the single and combined acute toxicity of Cr and Ni. Then, the quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) model was used to predict the combined toxicity of Cr and Ni. The single acute toxicity experiments revealed high toxicity for both Cr and Ni. In addition, Cr exhibited greater toxicity compared to Ni, as evidenced by its lower 96-hour half-lethal concentration (LC50) of 1.07 mg/L compared to 4.7 mg/L for Ni. Furthermore, the combined acute toxicity experiments showed that the toxicity of Cr-Ni was higher than Ni but lower than Cr. Compared with the concentration addition (CA) and independent action (IA) models, the predicted results of the QSAR model were more consistent with the experimental results for the Cr-Ni combined acute toxicity. So, the high accuracy of QSAR model identified its feasibility to predict the toxicity of heavy metal pollutants in mining wastewater. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Hypertension is a widely prevalent disease and uncontrolled hypertension predisposes affected individuals to severe adverse effects. Though the importance of controlling hypertension is clear, the multitude of therapeutic regimens and patient factors that affect the success of blood pressure control makes it difficult to predict the likelihood to predict whether a patient's blood pressure will be controlled. This project endeavors to investigate whether machine learning can accurately predict the control of a patient's hypertension within 12 months of a clinical encounter. To build the machine learning model, a retrospective review of the electronic medical records of 350,008 patients 18 years of age and older between January 1, 2015 and June 1, 2022 was performed to form model training and testing cohorts. The data included in the model included medication combinations, patient laboratory values, vital sign measurements, comorbidities, healthcare encounters, and demographic information. The mean age of the patient population was 65.6 years with 161,283 (46.1%) men and 275,001 (78.6%) white. A sliding time window of data was used to both prohibit data leakage from training sets to test sets and to maximize model performance. This sliding window resulted in using the study data to create 287 predictive models each using 2 years of training data and one week of testing data for a total study duration of five and a half years. Model performance was combined across all models. The primary outcome, prediction of blood pressure control within 12 months demonstrated an area under the curve of 0.76 (95% confidence interval; 0.75–0.76), sensitivity of 61.52% (61.0–62.03%), specificity of 75.69% (75.25–76.13%), positive predictive value of 67.75% (67.51–67.99%), and negative predictive value of 70.49% (70.32–70.66%). An AUC of 0.756 is considered to be moderately good for machine learning models. While the accuracy of this model is promising, it is impossible to state with certainty the clinical relevancy of any clinical support ML model without deploying it in a clinical setting and studying its impact on health outcomes. By also incorporating uncertainty analysis for every prediction, the authors believe that this approach offers the best-known solution to predicting hypertension control and that machine learning may be able to improve the accuracy of hypertension control predictions using patient information already available in the electronic health record. The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on both the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Malaysia, emphasizing the importance of developing accurate and reliable forecasting mechanisms to guide public health responses and policies. In this study, we compared several cutting-edge deep learning models, including Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), bidirectional LSTM, Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN), hybrid CNN-LSTM, Multilayer Perceptron's, and Recurrent Neural Networks (RNN), to project COVID-19 cases in the aforementioned regions. These models were calibrated and evaluated using a comprehensive dataset that includes confirmed case counts, demographic data, and relevant socioeconomic factors. To enhance the performance of these models, Bayesian optimization techniques were employed. Subsequently, the models were re-evaluated to compare their effectiveness. Analytic approaches, both predictive and retrospective in nature, were used to interpret the data. Our primary objective was to determine the most effective model for predicting COVID-19 cases in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Malaysia. The findings indicate that the selected deep learning algorithms were proficient in forecasting COVID-19 cases, although their efficacy varied across different models. After a thorough evaluation, the model architectures most suitable for the specific conditions in the UAE and Malaysia were identified. Our study contributes significantly to the ongoing efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, providing crucial insights into the application of sophisticated deep learning algorithms for the precise and timely forecasting of COVID-19 cases. Students' performance is an important factor for the evaluation of teaching quality in colleges. The prediction and analysis of students' performance can guide students' learning in time. Aiming at the low accuracy problem of single model in students' performance prediction, a combination prediction method is put forward based on ant colony algorithm. First, considering the characteristics of students' learning behavior and the characteristics of the models, decision tree (DT), support vector regression (SVR) and BP neural network (BP) are selected to establish three prediction models. Then, an ant colony algorithm (ACO) is proposed to calculate the weight of each model of the combination prediction model. The combination prediction method was compared with the single Machine learning (ML) models and other methods in terms of accuracy and running time. The combination prediction model with mean square error (MSE) of 0.0089 has higher performance than DT with MSE of 0.0326, SVR with MSE of 0.0229 and BP with MSE of 0.0148. To investigate the efficacy of the combination prediction model, other prediction models are used for a comparative study. The combination prediction model with MSE of 0.0089 has higher performance than GS-XGBoost with MSE of 0.0131, PSO-SVR with MSE of 0.0117 and IDA-SVR with MSE of 0.0092.
