Listening to music is a crucial tool for relieving stress and promoting relaxation. However, the limited options available for stress-relief music do not cater to individual preferences, compromising its effectiveness. Traditional methods of curating stress-relief music rely heavily on measuring biological responses, which is time-consuming, expensive, and requires specialized measurement devices. In this paper, a deep learning approach to solve this problem is introduced that explicitly uses convolutional neural networks and provides a more efficient and economical method for generating large datasets of stress-relief music. These datasets are composed of Mel-scaled spectrograms that include essential sound elements (such as frequency, amplitude, and waveform) that can be directly extracted from the music. The trained model demonstrated a test accuracy of 98.7%, and a clinical study indicated that the model-selected music was as effective as researcher-verified music in terms of stress-relieving capacity. This paper underlines the transformative potential of deep learning in addressing the challenge of limited music options for stress relief. This paper presents a novel sound event detection (SED) system for rare events occurring in an open environment. Wavelet multiresolution analysis (MRA) is used to decompose the input audio clip of 30 seconds into five levels. Wavelet denoising is then applied on the third and fifth levels of MRA to filter out the background. Significant transitions, which may represent the onset of a rare event, are then estimated in these two levels by combining the peak-finding algorithm with the K-medoids clustering algorithm. The small portions of one-second duration, called 'chunks' are cropped from the input audio signal corresponding to the estimated locations of the significant transitions. Features from these chunks are extracted by the wavelet scattering network (WSN) and are given as input to a support vector machine (SVM) classifier, which classifies them. The proposed SED framework produces an error rate comparable to the SED systems based on convolutional neural network (CNN) architecture. Also, the proposed algorithm is computationally efficient and lightweight as compared to deep learning models, as it has no learnable parameter. It requires only a single epoch of training, which is 5, 10, 200, and 600 times lesser than the models based on CNNs and deep neural networks (DNNs), CNN with long short-term memory (LSTM) network, convolutional recurrent neural network (CRNN), and CNN respectively. The proposed model neither requires concatenation with previous frames for anomaly detection nor any additional training data creation needed for other comparative deep learning models. It needs to check almost 360 times fewer chunks for the presence of rare events than the other baseline systems used for comparison in this paper. Identifying causal sentences from nuclear incident reports is essential for advancing nuclear safety research and applications. Nonetheless, accurately locating and labeling causal sentences in text data is challenging, and might benefit from the usage of automated techniques. In this paper, we introduce LERCause, a labeled dataset combined with labeling methods meant to serve as a foundation for the classification of causal sentences in the domain of nuclear safety. We used three BERT models (BERT, BioBERT, and SciBERT) to 10,608 annotated sentences from the Licensee Event Report (LER) corpus for predicting sentence labels (Causal vs. non-Causal). We also used a keyword-based heuristic strategy, three standard machine learning methods (Logistic Regression, Gradient Boosting, and Support Vector Machine), and a deep learning approach (Convolutional Neural Network; CNN) for comparison. We found that the BERT-centric models outperformed all other tested models in terms of all evaluation metrics (accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 score). BioBERT resulted in the highest overall F1 score of 94.49% from the ten-fold cross-validation. Our dataset and coding framework can provide a robust baseline for assessing and comparing new causal sentences extraction techniques. In recent years, the classification and identification of surface materials on earth have emerged as fundamental yet challenging research topics in the fields of geoscience and remote sensing (RS). The classification of multi-modality RS data still poses certain challenges, despite the notable advancements achieved by deep learning technology in RS image classification. In this work, a deep learning architecture based on convolutional neural network (CNN) is proposed for the classification of multimodal RS image data. The network structure introduces a cross modality reconstruction (CMR) module in the multi-modality feature fusion stage, called CMR-Net. In other words, CMR-Net is based on CNN network structure. In the feature fusion stage, a plug-and-play module for cross-modal fusion reconstruction is designed to compactly integrate features extracted from multiple modalities of remote sensing data, enabling effective information exchange and feature integration. In addition, to validate the proposed scheme, extensive experiments were conducted on two multi-modality RS datasets, namely the Houston2013 dataset consisting of hyperspectral (HS) and light detection and ranging (LiDAR) data, as well as the Berlin dataset comprising HS and synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data. Thin-bed soft rock is one of the main factors causing large deformations of tunnels. In addition to relying on some innovative construction techniques, detecting thin beds early during surface geological exploration and advanced geological prediction can provide a basis for planning and implementing effective coping measures. The commonly used seismic methods cannot meet the requirement for thin beds detection accuracy. A high-resolution (HR) seismic signal processing method is proposed by introducing a sequential convolutional neural network (SCNN). The deep learning dataset including low-resolution (LR) and HR seismic is firstly prepared through forward modeling. Then, a one-dimension (1D) SCNN architecture is proposed to establish the mapping relationship between LR and HR sequences. Training on the prepared dataset, the HR seismic processing model with high accuracy is achieved and applied to some practical seismic data. The applications on both poststack and prestack seismic data demonstrate that the trained HR processing model can effectively improve the seismic resolution and restore the high-frequency seismic energy so that to recognize the thin-bed rocks. Accurate forecasting of PM2.5 concentrations serves as a critical tool for mitigating air pollution. This study introduces a novel hybrid prediction model, termed MIC-CEEMDAN-CNN-BiGRU, for short-term forecasting of PM2.5 concentrations using a 24-hour historical data window. Utilizing the Maximal Information Coefficient (MIC) for feature selection, the model integrates Complete Ensemble Empirical Mode Decomposition with Adaptive Noise (CEEMDAN), Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), and Bidirectional Recurrent Gated Neural Network (BiGRU) to optimize predictive accuracy. We used 2016 PM2.5 monitoring data from Beijing, China as the empirical basis of this study and compared the model with several deep learning frameworks. RNN, LSTM, GRU, and other hybrid models based on GRU, respectively. The experimental results show that the prediction results of the hybrid model proposed in this question are more accurate than those of other models, and the R2 of the hybrid model proposed in this paper improves the R2 by nearly 5 percentage points compared with that of the single model; reduces the MAE by nearly 5 percentage points; and reduces the RMSE by nearly 11 percentage points. Automatic and accurate segmentation of medical images plays an essential role in disease diagnosis and treatment planning. Convolution neural networks have achieved remarkable results in medical image segmentation in the past decade. Meanwhile, deep learning models based on Transformer architecture also succeeded tremendously in this domain. However, due to the ambiguity of the medical image boundary and the high complexity of physical organization structures, implementing effective structure extraction and accurate segmentation remains a problem requiring a solution. In this paper, we propose a novel Dual Encoder Network named DECTNet to alleviate this problem. Specifically, the DECTNet embraces four components, which are a convolution-based encoder, a Transformer-based encoder, a feature fusion decoder, and a deep supervision module. The convolutional structure encoder can extract fine spatial contextual details in images. Meanwhile, the Transformer structure encoder is designed using a hierarchical Swin Transformer architecture to model global contextual information. The novel feature fusion decoder integrates the multi-scale representation from two encoders and selects features that focus on segmentation tasks by channel attention mechanism. Further, a deep supervision module is used to accelerate the convergence of the proposed method. Extensive experiments demonstrate that, compared to the other seven models, the proposed method achieves state-of-the-art results on four segmentation tasks: skin lesion segmentation, polyp segmentation, Covid-19 lesion segmentation, and MRI cardiac segmentation. Accurate identification of small tea buds is a key technology for tea harvesting robots, which directly affects tea quality and yield. However, due to the complexity of the tea plantation environment and the diversity of tea buds, accurate identification remains an enormous challenge. Current methods based on traditional image processing and machine learning fail to effectively extract subtle features and morphology of small tea buds, resulting in low accuracy and robustness. To achieve accurate identification, this paper proposes a small object detection algorithm called STF-YOLO (Small Target Detection with Swin Transformer and Focused YOLO), which integrates the Swin Transformer module and the YOLOv8 network to improve the detection ability of small objects. The Swin Transformer module extracts visual features based on a self-attention mechanism, which captures global and local context information of small objects to enhance feature representation. The YOLOv8 network is an object detector based on deep convolutional neural networks, offering high speed and precision. Based on the YOLOv8 network, modules including Focus and Depthwise Convolution are introduced to reduce computation and parameters, increase receptive field and feature channels, and improve feature fusion and transmission. Additionally, the Wise Intersection over Union loss is utilized to optimize the network. Experiments conducted on a self-created dataset of tea buds demonstrate that the STF-YOLO model achieves outstanding results, with an accuracy of 91.5% and a mean Average Precision of 89.4%. These results are significantly better than other detectors. Results show that, compared to mainstream algorithms (YOLOv8, YOLOv7, YOLOv5, and YOLOx), the model improves accuracy and F1 score by 5-20.22 percentage points and 0.03-0.13, respectively, proving its effectiveness in enhancing small object detection performance. This research provides technical means for the accurate identification of small tea buds in complex environments and offers insights into small object detection. Future research can further optimize model structures and parameters for more scenarios and tasks, as well as explore data augmentation and model fusion methods to improve generalization ability and robustness. Android is the most popular operating system of the latest mobile smart devices. With this operating system, many Android applications have been developed and become an essential part of our daily lives. Unfortunately, different kinds of Android malware have also been generated with these applications' endless stream and somehow installed during the API calls, permission granted and extra packages installation and badly affected the system security rules to harm the system. Therefore, it is compulsory to detect and classify the android malware to save the user's privacy to avoid maximum damages. Many research has already been developed on the different techniques related to android malware detection and classification. In this work, we present AMDDLmodel a deep learning technique that consists of a convolutional neural network. This model works based on different parameters, filter sizes, number of epochs, learning rates, and layers to detect and classify the android malware. The Drebin dataset consisting of 215 features was used for this model evaluation. The model shows an accuracy value of 99.92%. The other statistical values are precision, recall, and F1-score. AMDDLmodel introduces innovative deep learning for Android malware detection, enhancing accuracy and practical user security through inventive feature engineering and comprehensive performance evaluation. Cognitive radio networks (CRN) enable wireless devices to sense the radio spectrum, determine the frequency state channels, and reconfigure the communication variables to satisfy Quality of Service (QoS) needs by reducing energy utilization. In CRN, spectrum sensing is an essential process that is highly challenging and can be addressed by several traditional techniques, such as energy detection, match filtering, etc. For now, the current models' performance is impacted by the comparatively low Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) of recognized signals and the insignificant quantity of traditional signal samples. This research proposals a new spectral sensing technique for cognitive radio networks (SST-CRN) that addresses the drawbacks of predictable energy detection models. With the use of a deep belief network (DBN), the suggested model contributes to accomplish a nonlinear threshold based on the chicken swarm algorithm (CSA). The proposed DBN enabled SST-CRN technique goes through two phases in a organized process: offline and online. Throughout the offline phase, the DBN model is methodically trained on pre-gathered data, developing the aptitude to identify problematic patterns and examples from the spectral features of the radio environment. This stage involves extensive feature extraction, validation, and model development to ensure that the DBN can professionally represent complicated spectral dynamics. Additionally, online spectrum sensing is conducted during the real communication phase to enable real-time adaptation to dynamic changes in the spectrum environment. Offline spectrum sensing is typically performed during a devoted sensing period before actual communication begins. When combined with DBN's deep learning capabilities and CSO's innate nature-inspired algorithms, a synergistic framework is created that enables CRNs to explore and allocate incidences on their own with astonishing accuracy. The proposed solution considerably improves the spectrum efficiency and resilience of CRNs by harnessing the power of DBN, which leads to more effective resource utilization and less interference. The Simulation results show that our proposed strategy produces more accurate spectrum occupancy assessments. The result parameters such as probability of detection, SNR of -24dB, the SST-CRN perfect has increased a developed Pd of 0.810, whereas the existing methods RMLSSCRN-100 and RMLSSCRN-300 have accomplished a lower Pd of 0.577 and 0.736, respectively. Our deep learning methodology uses convolutional neural networks to automatically learn and adapt to dynamic and complicated radio environments, improving accuracy and flexibility over classic spectrum sensing approaches. In view of the strong randomness and non-stationarity of complex system, this study suggests a hybrid multi-strategy prediction technique based on optimized hybrid denoising and deep learning. Firstly, the Sparrow search algorithm (SSA) is used to optimize Variational mode decomposition (VMD) which can decompose the original signal into several Intrinsic mode functions (IMF). Secondly, calculating the Pearson correlation coefficient (PCC) between each IMF component and the original signal, the subsequences with low correlation are eliminated, and the remaining subsequence are denoised by Wavelet soft threshold (WST) method to obtain effective signals. Thirdly, on the basis of the above data noise reduction and reconstruction, our proposal combines Convolutional neural network (CNN) and Bidirectional short-term memory (BiLSTM) model, which is used to analyze the evolution trend of real time sequence data. Finally, we applied the CNN-BiLSTM-SSA-VMD-WST to predict the real time sequence data together with the other methods in order to prove it's effectiveness. The results show that SNR and CC of the SSA-VMD-WST are the largest (the values are 20.2383 and 0.9342). The performance of the CNN-BiLSTM-SSA-VMD-WST are the best, MAE and RMSE are the smallest (which are 0.150 and 0.188), the goodness of fit R2 is the highest(its value is 0.9364). In contrast with other methods, CNN-BiLSTM-SSA-VMD-WST method is more suitable for denoising and prediction of real time series data than the traditional and singular deep learning methods. Deep learning shows promise for automating detection and classification of wildlife from digital aerial imagery to support cost-efficient remote sensing solutions for wildlife population monitoring. To support in-flight orthorectification and machine learning processing to detect and classify wildlife from imagery in near real-time, we evaluated deep learning methods that address hardware limitations and the need for processing efficiencies to support the envisioned in-flight workflow. We developed an annotated dataset for a suite of marine birds from high-resolution digital aerial imagery collected over open water environments to train the models. The proposed 3-stage workflow for automated, in-flight data processing includes: 1) image filtering based on the probability of any bird occurrence, 2) bird instance detection, and 3) bird instance classification. For image filtering, we compared the performance of a binary classifier with Mask Region-based Convolutional Neural Network (Mask R-CNN) as a means of sub-setting large volumes of imagery based on the probability of at least one bird occurrence in an image. On both the validation and test datasets, the binary classifier achieved higher performance than Mask R-CNN for predicting bird occurrence at the image-level. We recommend the binary classifier over Mask R-CNN for workflow first-stage filtering. For bird instance detection, we leveraged Mask R-CNN as our detection framework and proposed an iterative refinement method to bootstrap our predicted detections from loose ground-truth annotations. Molecular subtypes of colorectal cancer (CRC) significantly influence treatment decisions. While convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have recently been introduced for automated CRC subtype identification using H&E stained histopathological images, the correlation between CRC subtype genomic variants and their corresponding cellular morphology expressed by their imaging phenotypes is yet to be fully explored. The goal of this study was to determine such correlations by incorporating genomic variants in CNN models for CRC subtype classification from H&E images. We utilized the publicly available TCGA-CRC-DX dataset, which comprises whole slide images from 360 CRC-diagnosed patients (260 for training and 100 for testing). This dataset also provides information on CRC subtype classifications and genomic variations. We trained CNN models for CRC subtype classification that account for potential correlation between genomic variations within CRC subtypes and their corresponding cellular morphology patterns. We assessed the interplay between CRC subtypes' genomic variations and cellular morphology patterns by evaluating the CRC subtype classification accuracy of the different models in a stratified 5-fold cross-validation experimental setup using the area under the ROC curve (AUROC) and average precision (AP) as the performance metrics. The CNN models that account for potential correlation between genomic variations within CRC subtypes and their cellular morphology pattern achieved superior accuracy compared to the baseline CNN classification model that does not account for genomic variations when using either single-nucleotide-polymorphism (SNP) molecular features (AUROC: 0.824±0.02 vs. 0.761±0.04, p<0.05, AP: 0.652±0.06 vs. 0.58±0.08) or CpG-Island methylation phenotype (CIMP) molecular features (AUROC: 0.834±0.01 vs. 0.787±0.03, p<0.05, AP: 0.687±0.02 vs. 0.64±0.05). Combining the CNN models account for variations in CIMP and SNP further improved classification accuracy (AUROC: 0.847±0.01 vs. 0.787±0.03, p = 0.01, AP: 0.68±0.02 vs. 0.64±0.05). The improved accuracy of CNN models for CRC subtype classification that account for potential correlation between genomic variations within CRC subtypes and their corresponding cellular morphology as expressed by H&E imaging phenotypes may elucidate the biological cues impacting cancer histopathological imaging phenotypes. Brain tumors, characterized by the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells, pose a significant threat to human health. Early detection is crucial for successful treatment and improved patient outcomes. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is the primary diagnostic tool for brain tumors, providing detailed visualizations of the brain's intricate structures. However, the complexity and variability of tumor shapes and locations often challenge physicians in achieving accurate tumor segmentation on MRI images. Precise tumor segmentation is essential for effective treatment planning and prognosis. To address this challenge, we propose a novel hybrid deep learning technique, Convolutional Neural Network and ResNeXt101 (ConvNet-ResNeXt101), for automated tumor segmentation and classification. Our approach commences with data acquisition from the BRATS 2020 dataset, a benchmark collection of MRI images with corresponding tumor segmentations. Next, we employ batch normalization to smooth and enhance the collected data, followed by feature extraction using the AlexNet model. This involves extracting features based on tumor shape, position, shape, and surface characteristics. To select the most informative features for effective segmentation, we utilize an advanced meta-heuristics algorithm called Advanced Whale Optimization (AWO). AWO mimics the hunting behavior of humpback whales to iteratively search for the optimal feature subset. With the selected features, we perform image segmentation using the ConvNet-ResNeXt101 model. This deep learning architecture combines the strengths of ConvNet and ResNeXt101, a type of ConvNet with aggregated residual connections. Finally, we apply the same ConvNet-ResNeXt101 model for tumor classification, categorizing the segmented tumor into distinct types. Our experiments demonstrate the superior performance of our proposed ConvNet-ResNeXt101 model compared to existing approaches, achieving an accuracy of 99.27% for the tumor core class with a minimum learning elapsed time of 0.53 s. The classification of vessel trajectories using Automatic Identification System (AIS) data is crucial for ensuring maritime safety and the efficient navigation of ships. The advent of deep learning has brought about more effective classification methods, utilizing Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN). However, existing CNN-based approaches primarily focus on either sailing or loitering movement patterns and struggle to capture valuable features and subtle differences between these patterns from input images. In response to these limitations, we firstly introduce a novel framework, Dense121-VMC, based on Deep Convolutional Neural Networks (DCNN) with transfer learning for simultaneous extraction and classification of both sailing and loitering trajectories. Our approach efficiently performs in extracting significant features from input images and in identifying subtle differences in each vessel's trajectory. Additionally, transfer learning effectively reduces data requirements and addresses the issue of overfitting. Retinal images play a pivotal contribution to the diagnosis of various ocular conditions by ophthalmologists. Extensive research was conducted to enable early detection and timely treatment using deep learning algorithms for retinal fundus images. Quick diagnosis and treatment planning can be facilitated by deep learning models' ability to process images rapidly and deliver outcomes instantly. Our research aims to provide a non-invasive method for early detection and timely eye disease treatment using a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN). We used a dataset Retinal Fundus Multi-disease Image Dataset (RFMiD), which contains various categories of fundus images representing different eye diseases, including Media Haze (MH), Optic Disc Cupping (ODC), Diabetic Retinopathy (DR), and healthy images (WNL). Several pre-processing techniques were applied to improve the model's performance, such as data augmentation, cropping, resizing, dataset splitting, converting images to arrays, and one-hot encoding. CNNs have extracted extract pertinent features from the input color fundus images. These extracted features are employed to make predictive diagnostic decisions. In this article three CNN models were used to perform experiments. The model's performance is assessed utilizing statistical metrics such as accuracy, F1 score, recall, and precision. Based on the results, the developed framework demonstrates promising performance with accuracy rates of up to 89.81% for validation and 88.72% for testing using 12-layer CNN after Data Augmentation. The accuracy rate obtained from 20-layer CNN is 90.34% for validation and 89.59% for testing with Augmented data. The accuracy obtained from 20-layer CNN is greater but this model shows overfitting. These accuracy rates suggested that the deep learning model has learned to distinguish between different eye disease categories and healthy images effectively. This study's contribution lies in providing a reliable and efficient diagnostic system for the simultaneous detection of multiple eye diseases through the analysis of color fundus images. Background and objectives: The scarcity of data for training deep learning models in pediatrics has prompted questions about the feasibility of employing CNNs trained with adult images for pediatric populations. In this work, a pneumonia classification CNN was used as an exploratory example to showcase the adaptability and efficacy of such models in pediatric healthcare settings despite the inherent data constraints. Methods: To develop a curated training dataset with reduced biases, 46,947 chest X-ray images from various adult datasets were meticulously selected. Two preprocessing approaches were tried to assess the impact of thoracic segmentation on model attention outside the thoracic area. Evaluation of our approach was carried out on a dataset containing 5,856 chest X-rays of children from 1 to 5 years old. Results: An analysis of attention maps indicated that networks trained with thorax segmentation placed less attention on regions outside the thorax, thus eliminating potential bias. The ensuing network exhibited impressive performance when evaluated on an adult dataset, achieving a pneumonia discrimination AUC of 0.95. When tested on a pediatric dataset, the pneumonia discrimination AUC reached 0.82. Conclusions: The results of this study show that adult-trained CNNs can be effectively applied to pediatric populations. This could potentially shift focus towards validating adult models over pediatric population instead of training new CNNs with limited pediatric data. This research aims to establish a practical stress detection framework by integrating physiological indicators and deep learning techniques. Utilizing a virtual reality (VR) interview paradigm mirroring real-world scenarios, our focus is on classifying stress states through accessible single-channel electroencephalogram (EEG) and galvanic skin response (GSR) data. Thirty participants underwent stress-inducing VR interviews, with biosignals recorded for deep learning models. Five convolutional neural network (CNN) architectures and one Vision Transformer model, including a multiple-column structure combining EEG and GSR features, showed heightened predictive capabilities and an enhanced area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROC) in stress prediction compared to single-column models. Our experimental protocol effectively elicited stress responses, observed through fluctuations in stress visual analogue scale (VAS), EEG, and GSR metrics. In the single-column architecture, ResNet-152 excelled with a GSR AUROC of 0.944 (±0.027), while the Vision Transformer performed well in EEG, achieving peak AUROC values of 0.886 (±0.069) respectively. Notably, the multiple-column structure, based on ResNet-50, achieved the highest AUROC value of 0.954 (±0.018) in stress classification. Through VR-based simulated interviews, our study induced social stress responses, leading to significant modifications in GSR and EEG measurements. Machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) models are being increasingly employed for medical imagery analyses, with both approaches used to enhance the accuracy of classification/prediction in the diagnoses of various cancers, tumors and bloodborne diseases. To date however, no review of these techniques and their application(s) within the domain of white blood cell (WBC) classification in blood smear images has been undertaken, representing a notable knowledge gap with respect to model selection and comparison. Accordingly, the current study sought to comprehensively identify, explore and contrast ML and DL methods for classifying WBCs. Following development and implementation of a formalized review protocol, a cohort of 136 primary studies published between January 2006 and May 2023 were identified from the global literature, with the most widely used techniques and best-performing WBC classification methods subsequently ascertained. Studies derived from 26 countries, with highest numbers from high-income countries including the United States (n = 32) and The Netherlands (n = 26). While WBC classification was originally rooted in conventional ML, there has been a notable shift toward the use of DL, and particularly convolutional neural networks (CNN), with 54.4% of identified studies (n = 74) including the use of CNNs, and particularly in concurrence with larger datasets and bespoke features e.g., parallel data pre-processing, feature selection, and extraction. While some conventional ML models achieved up to 99% accuracy, accuracy was shown to decrease in concurrence with decreasing dataset size. Deep learning models exhibited improved performance for more extensive datasets and exhibited higher levels of accuracy in concurrence with increasingly large datasets. Availability of appropriate datasets remains a primary challenge, potentially resolvable using data augmentation techniques. Moreover, medical training of computer science researchers is recommended to improve current understanding of leucocyte structure and subsequent selection of appropriate classification models. In recent years, the advancement of hyperspectral remote sensing technology has greatly enhanced the detailed mapping of tree species. Nevertheless, delving deep into the significance of hyperspectral remote sensing data features for tree species recognition remains a challenging endeavor. The method of Hybrid-CS was proposed to addresses this challenge by synergizing the strengths of both deep learning and traditional learning techniques. Initially, we extract comprehensive correlation structures and spectral features. Subsequently, a hybrid approach, combining correlation-based feature selection with an optimized recursive feature elimination algorithm, identifies the most valuable feature set. We leverage the Support Vector Machine algorithm to evaluate feature importance and perform classification. Through rigorous experimentation, we evaluate the robustness of hyperspectral image-derived features and compare our method with other state-of-the-art classification methods. The results demonstrate: (1) Superior classification accuracy compared to traditional machine learning methods (e.g., SVM, RF) and advanced deep learning approaches on the tree species dataset. (2) Enhanced classification accuracy achieved by incorporating SVM and CNN information, particularly with the integration of attention mechanisms into the network architecture. Additionally, the classification performance of a two-branch network surpasses that of a single-branch network. (3) Consistent high accuracy across different proportions of training samples, indicating the stability and robustness of the method. One of the most challenging aspects of bee ecology and conservation is species-level identification, which is costly, time consuming, and requires taxonomic expertise. Recent advances in the application of deep learning and computer vision have shown promise for identifying large bumble bee (Bombus) species. However, most bees, such as sweat bees in the genus Lasioglossum, are much smaller and can be difficult, even for trained taxonomists, to identify. For this reason, the great majority of bees are poorly represented in the crowdsourced image datasets often used to train computer vision models. But even larger bees, such as bumble bees from the B. vagans complex, can be difficult to separate morphologically. Using images of specimens from our research collections, we assessed how deep learning classification models perform on these more challenging taxa, qualitatively comparing models trained on images of whole pinned specimens or on images of bee forewings. The pinned specimen and wing image datasets represent 20 and 18 species from 6 and 4 genera, respectively, and were used to train the EfficientNetV2L convolutional neural network. Mean test precision was 94.9% and 98.1% for pinned and wing images respectively. Results show that computer vision holds great promise for classifying smaller, more difficult to identify bees that are poorly represented in crowdsourced datasets. Images from research and museum collections will be valuable for expanding classification models to include additional species, which will be essential for large scale conservation monitoring efforts. Pulse repetition interval modulation (PRIM) is integral to radar identification in modern electronic support measure (ESM) and electronic intelligence (ELINT) systems. Various distortions, including missing pulses, spurious pulses, unintended jitters, and noise from radar antenna scans, often hinder the accurate recognition of PRIM. This research introduces a novel three-stage approach for PRIM recognition, emphasizing the innovative use of PRI sound. A transfer learning-aided deep convolutional neural network (DCNN) is initially used for feature extraction. This is followed by an extreme learning machine (ELM) for real-time PRIM classification. Finally, a gray wolf optimizer (GWO) refines the network's robustness. To evaluate the proposed method, we develop a real experimental dataset consisting of sound of six common PRI patterns. We utilized eight pre-trained DCNN architectures for evaluation, with VGG16 and ResNet50V2 notably achieving recognition accuracies of 97.53% and 96.92%. Integrating ELM and GWO further optimized the accuracy rates to 98.80% and 97.58. This research advances radar identification by offering an enhanced method for PRIM recognition, emphasizing the potential of PRI sound to address real-world distortions in ESM and ELINT systems. Crime remains a crucial concern regarding ensuring a safe and secure environment for the public. Numerous efforts have been made to predict crime, emphasizing the importance of employing deep learning approaches for precise predictions. However, sufficient crime data and resources for training state-of-the-art deep learning-based crime prediction systems pose a challenge. To address this issue, this study adopts the transfer learning paradigm. Moreover, this study fine-tunes state-of-the-art statistical and deep learning methods, including Simple Moving Averages (SMA), Weighted Moving Averages (WMA), Exponential Moving Averages (EMA), Long Short Term Memory (LSTM), Bi-directional Long Short Term Memory (BiLSTMs), and Convolutional Neural Networks and Long Short Term Memory (CNN-LSTM) for crime prediction. Primarily, this study proposed a BiLSTM based transfer learning architecture due to its high accuracy in predicting weekly and monthly crime trends. The transfer learning paradigm leverages the fine-tuned BiLSTM model to transfer crime knowledge from one neighbourhood to another. The proposed method is evaluated on Chicago, New York, and Lahore crime datasets. Experimental results demonstrate the superiority of transfer learning with BiLSTM, achieving low error values and reduced execution time. Deep Learning models such as Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) are very effective at extracting complex image features from medical X-rays. However, the limited interpretability of CNNs has hampered their deployment in medical settings as they failed to gain trust among clinicians. In this work, we propose an interactive framework to allow clinicians to ask what-if questions and intervene in the decisions of a CNN, with the aim of increasing trust in the system. The framework translates a layer of a trained CNN into a measurable and compact set of symbolic rules. Expert interactions with visualizations of the rules promote the use of clinically-relevant CNN kernels and attach meaning to the rules. The definition and relevance of the kernels are supported by radiomics analyses and permutation evaluations, respectively. CNN kernels that do not have a clinically-meaningful interpretation are removed without affecting model performance. By allowing clinicians to evaluate the impact of adding or removing kernels from the rule set, our approach produces an interpretable refinement of the data-driven CNN in alignment with medical best practice. Traffic accidents remain a leading cause of fatalities, injuries, and significant disruptions on highways. Comprehending the contributing factors to these occurrences is paramount in enhancing safety on road networks. Recent studies have demonstrated the utility of predictive modeling in gaining insights into the factors that precipitate accidents. However, there has been a dearth of focus on explaining the inner workings of complex machine learning and deep learning models and the manner in which various features influence accident prediction models. As a result, there is a risk that these models may be seen as black boxes, and their findings may not be fully trusted by stakeholders. The main objective of this study is to create predictive models using various transfer learning techniques and to provide insights into the most impactful factors using Shapley values. To predict the severity of injuries in accidents, Multilayer Perceptron (MLP), Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), Residual Networks (ResNet), EfficientNetB4, InceptionV3, Extreme Inception (Xception), and MobileNet are employed. Among the models, the MobileNet showed the highest results with 98.17% accuracy. Individual muscle segmentation is the process of partitioning medical images into regions representing each muscle. It can be used to isolate spatially structured quantitative muscle characteristics, such as volume, geometry, and the level of fat infiltration. These features are pivotal to measuring the state of muscle functional health and in tracking the response of the body to musculoskeletal and neuromusculoskeletal disorders. The gold standard approach to perform muscle segmentation requires manual processing of large numbers of images and is associated with significant operator repeatability issues and high time requirements. Deep learning-based techniques have been recently suggested to be capable of automating the process, which would catalyse research into the effects of musculoskeletal disorders on the muscular system. In this study, three convolutional neural networks were explored in their capacity to automatically segment twenty-three lower limb muscles from the hips, thigh, and calves from magnetic resonance images. The three neural networks (UNet, Attention UNet, and a novel Spatial Channel UNet) were trained independently with augmented images to segment 6 subjects and were able to segment the muscles with an average Relative Volume Error (RVE) between -8.6% and 2.9%, average Dice Similarity Coefficient (DSC) between 0.70 and 0.84, and average Hausdorff Distance (HD) between 12.2 and 46.5 mm, with performance dependent on both the subject and the network used. The trained convolutional neural networks designed, and data used in this study are openly available for use, either through re-training for other medical images, or application to automatically segment new T1-weighted lower limb magnetic resonance images captured with similar acquisition parameters. Chest disease refers to a wide range of conditions affecting the lungs, such as COVID-19, lung cancer (LC), consolidation lung (COL), and many more. When diagnosing chest disorders medical professionals may be thrown off by the overlapping symptoms (such as fever, cough, sore throat, etc.). Additionally, researchers and medical professionals make use of chest X-rays (CXR), cough sounds, and computed tomography (CT) scans to diagnose chest disorders. The present study aims to classify the nine different conditions of chest disorders, including COVID-19, LC, COL, atelectasis (ATE), tuberculosis (TB), pneumothorax (PNEUTH), edema (EDE), pneumonia (PNEU). Thus, we suggested four novel convolutional neural network (CNN) models that train distinct image-level representations for nine different chest disease classifications by extracting features from images. Furthermore, the proposed CNN employed several new approaches such as a max-pooling layer, batch normalization layers (BANL), dropout, rank-based average pooling (RBAP), and multiple-way data generation (MWDG). The scalogram method is utilized to transform the sounds of coughing into a visual representation. Before beginning to train the model that has been developed, the SMOTE approach is used to calibrate the CXR and CT scans as well as the cough sound images (CSI) of nine different chest disorders. The CXR, CT scan, and CSI used for training and evaluating the proposed model come from 24 publicly available benchmark chest illness datasets. The classification performance of the proposed model is compared with that of seven baseline models, namely Vgg-19, ResNet-101, ResNet-50, DenseNet-121, EfficientNetB0, DenseNet-201, and Inception-V3, in addition to state-of-the-art (SOTA) classifiers. The effectiveness of the proposed model is further demonstrated by the results of the ablation experiments. The proposed model was successful in achieving an accuracy of 99.01%, making it superior to both the baseline models and the SOTA classifiers. Computer-aided diagnosis systems based on deep learning algorithms have shown potential applications in rapid diagnosis of diabetic retinopathy (DR). Due to the superior performance of Transformer over convolutional neural networks (CNN) on natural images, we attempted to develop a new model to classify referable DR based on a limited number of large-size retinal images by using Transformer. Vision Transformer (ViT) with Masked Autoencoders (MAE) was applied in this study to improve the classification performance of referable DR. We collected over 100,000 publicly fundus retinal images larger than 224×224, and then pre-trained ViT on these retinal images using MAE. The pre-trained ViT was applied to classify referable DR, the performance was also compared with that of ViT pre-trained using ImageNet. The improvement in model classification performance by pre-training with over 100,000 retinal images using MAE is superior to that pre-trained with ImageNet. The accuracy, area under curve (AUC), highest sensitivity and highest specificity of the present model are 93.42%, 0.9853, 0.973 and 0.9539, respectively. This study shows that MAE can provide more flexibility to the input image and substantially reduce the number of images required. Meanwhile, the pretraining dataset scale in this study is much smaller than ImageNet, and the pre-trained weights from ImageNet are not required also. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the field of data security, biometric security is a significant emerging concern. The multimodal biometrics system with enhanced accuracy and detection rate for smart environments is still a significant challenge. The fusion of an electrocardiogram (ECG) signal with a fingerprint is an effective multimodal recognition system. In this work, unimodal and multimodal biometric systems using Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) are conducted and compared with traditional methods using different levels of fusion of fingerprint and ECG signal. This study is concerned with the evaluation of the effectiveness of proposed parallel and sequential multimodal biometric systems with various feature extraction and classification methods. Additionally, the performance of unimodal biometrics of ECG and fingerprint utilizing deep learning and traditional classification technique is examined. The suggested biometric systems were evaluated utilizing ECG (MIT-BIH) and fingerprint (FVC2004) databases. Additional tests are conducted to examine the suggested models with:1) virtual dataset without augmentation (ODB) and 2) virtual dataset with augmentation (VDB). The findings show that the optimum performance of the parallel multimodal achieved 0.96 Area Under the ROC Curve (AUC) and sequential multimodal achieved 0.99 AUC, in comparison to unimodal biometrics which achieved 0.87 and 0.99 AUCs, for the fingerprint and ECG biometrics, respectively. The overall performance of the proposed multimodal biometrics outperformed unimodal biometrics using CNN. Moreover, the performance of the suggested CNN model for ECG signal and sequential multimodal system based on neural network outperformed other systems. The objectives are to improve the diagnostic efficiency and accuracy of epidemic pulmonary infectious diseases and to study the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in pulmonary infectious disease diagnosis and public health management. The computer tomography (CT) images of 200 patients with pulmonary infectious disease are collected and input into the AI-assisted diagnosis software based on the deep learning (DL) model, "UAI, pulmonary infectious disease intelligent auxiliary analysis system", for lesion detection. By analyzing the principles of convolutional neural networks (CNN) in deep learning (DL), the study selects the AlexNet model for the recognition and classification of pulmonary infection CT images. The software automatically detects the pneumonia lesions, marks them in batches, and calculates the lesion volume. The result shows that the CT manifestations of the patients are mainly involved in multiple lobes and density, the most common shadow is the ground-glass opacity. The detection rate of the manual method is 95.30%, the misdetection rate is 0.20% and missed diagnosis rate is 4.50%; the detection rate of the DL-based AI-assisted lesion method is 99.76%, the misdetection rate is 0.08%, and the missed diagnosis rate is 0.08%. Therefore, the proposed model can effectively identify pulmonary infectious disease lesions and provide relevant data information to objectively diagnose pulmonary infectious disease and manage public health. Breast cancer is a prevalent and life-threatening disease that affects women globally. Early detection and access to top-notch treatment are crucial in preventing fatalities from this condition. However, manual breast histopathology image analysis is time-consuming and prone to errors. This study proposed a hybrid deep learning model (CNN+EfficientNetV2B3). The proposed approach utilizes convolutional neural networks (CNNs) for the identification of positive invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC) and negative (non-IDC) tissue using whole slide images (WSIs), which use pre-trained models to classify breast cancer in images, supporting pathologists in making more accurate diagnoses. The proposed model demonstrates outstanding performance with an accuracy of 96.3%, precision of 93.4%, recall of 86.4%, F1-score of 89.7%, Matthew's correlation coefficient (MCC) of 87.6%, the Area Under the Curve (AUC) of a Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve of 97.5%, and the Area Under the Curve of the Precision-Recall Curve (AUPRC) of 96.8%, which outperforms the accuracy achieved by other models. The proposed model was also tested against MobileNet+DenseNet121, MobileNetV2+EfficientNetV2B0, and other deep learning models, proving more powerful than contemporary machine learning and deep learning approaches.
