2. Parafuscosporella lignicola sp. nov. (Fuscosporellaceae), from a freshwater habitat in northern Thailand

Abstract

A survey of lignicolous freshwater fungi in Thailand resulted in the discovery of one new species in Parafuscosporella herein described as Parafuscosporella lignicola. It is characterized by sporodochial colonies, moniliform or ellipsoidal conidiophores, ellipsoidal or cylindrical conidiogenous cells, irregular ellipsoidal and dark brown conidia. Phylogenetic analysis based on the combined LSU, SSU and ITS sequence data support its placement in Parafuscosporella. The species formed distinct clade from the type species and represents as ninth species in Parafuscosporella. The results of the pairwise homoplasy index (PHI) test results revealed no significant genetic recombination (Φw = 1.0) between Parafuscosporella lignicola and the closely related P. lignicola and P. ellipsoconidiogena. A descriptions and illustrations of P. lignicola are provided.

3. Pseudomonodictys aquatica sp. nov., the sexual morph of Pseudomonodictys from freshwater habitats

Abstract

Pseudomonodictys aquatica was found on a submerged decaying wood from freshwater habitat in Chiang Rai Province, Thailand. Based on phylogenetic analyses of combined ITS, LSU, SSU and TEF1-α sequence data, Pseudomonodictys aquatica is introduced as a new species and it is the first report of sexual morph in this genus. Pseudomonodictys aquatica is characterized by semi-immersed to immersed, globose to subglobose ascomata, clavate, short pedicellate asci and fusiform to cylindrical, (6)–8-septate, hyaline ascospores that are enlarged at the 4th-middle cells and surrounded by a mucilaginous sheath. Morphological characters of the species are compared with the similar taxa in Parabambusicolaceae. The detailed description and illustration of the new species are provided.

5. Neoascotaiwania aquatica sp. nov. from a freshwater habitat in Yunnan Province, China

Abstract

During an investigation of freshwater fungi from the Greater Mekong Subregion, a Bactrodesmium-like taxon was collected from a freshwater habitat in Yunnan Province, China. Phylogenetic analysis of combined LSU, SSU, ITS, TEF1-α and RPB2 sequence data placed the new isolate, Neoascotaiwania aquatica, in the genus Neoascotaiwania within Savoryellaceae. The new taxon is distinguished from other Neoascotaiwania species by its semi-macronematous, uniseptate, subhyaline to pale brown conidiophores and fusiform, 2-septate conidia.

6. New species, Parahelicomyces yunnanensis sp. nov. and Tubeufia nigroseptum sp. nov. from freshwater habitats in Yunnan, China

Abstract

Diversity of lignicolous freshwater fungi in northwestern Yunnan, China is currently being studied. Four fresh collections of tubeufiaceous taxa were collected and identified. Among of them, Parahelicomyces yunnanensis sp. nov and Tubeufia nigroseptum sp. nov. are introduced as new species based on morphology and molecular phylogenetic analysis of combined ITS, SSU, TEF1-α and RPB2 sequence data. The detailed descriptions and illustrations of the new species are provided, as well as the morphological comparison with similar taxa are discussed. Two strains of Neohelicomyces aquaticus and Tubeufia cylindrothecia are provided.
