Abstract

Searches for the rare radiative decays η′→ π γγ and η′ → η γγ were performed at the GAMS-4π setup. The following upper limits were set at a 90% confidence level: Br( η′→ π γγ) < 6 × 10 and Br( η′→ ηγγ) < 8×10. The π p charge-exchange reaction at the beammomentum of 32.5GeV/ c was the source of 1.3 × 106 η′ mesons. Abstract

The total cross sections for Au and Tl fission induced by protons of energy varied from about 200 to 1000 MeV with a step of about 100 MeV are measured. New approximations to the energy dependences of the cross sections for the proton-induced fission of Au, Tl, natPb, and Bi nuclei are presented and discussed. The parameters of the Dalitz diagram for the decay η′ → ηπ0 π0 in a generalized and a linear representation were determined by using a statistical sample of 15 × 103 events. Abstract

An experiment performed with the GAMS-4 π spectrometer resulted in observing 235 ± 45 events of the decay η′ → 3 π 0. The respective charge-exchange reaction at a momentum of 32.5 GeV/ c was used as a source of η′ mesons. The decay branching ratio was found to be Br( η′ → 3 π 0) = (1.8 ± 0.4) × 10−3. Abstract

The reaction K − p → ηη(Λ/Σ0) at a momentum of 32.5 GeV/ c was studied for the first time. The experiment was performed by using the GAMS-4π spectrometer at the 70-GeV accelerator of the Institute for High Energy Physics (IHEP, Protvino). The f 2(1525) resonance was observed in the effective-mass spectrum of the ηη system at a low background level. The cross section for f 2(1525) production was measured. The branching ratio for f 2(1525)-meson decay to ηη and K $$\bar K$$ was found to be R = 0.119 ± 0.015(stat.) ± 0.036(syst.), which is in agreement with the world-average value. Abstract

Using data collected with the ISTRA+ spectrometer during the 2001 run of the U-70 proton synchrotron in Protvino, the first observation of the radiative kaon decay K − → µ−π0γν is reported. The ratio Br( K µ3γ, 5 < E*γ < 30 MeV)/Br( K µ3) is found to be [0.270 ± 0.029(stat.) ± 0.026(syst.)]% and the ratio Br( K µ3γ, 30 < E*γ < 60 MeV)/Br( K µ3) = [0.0448 ± 0.0068(stat.) ± 0.0099(syst.)]%. These ratios are consistent with the theoretical predictions 0.21 and 0.047%, respectively. The measured angular distribution asymmetry for the region 5 < E*γ < 30 MeV, A(cos ϑ*µγ) = 0.093 ± 0.141, is two standard deviations away from the theoretical prediction of 0.354. The measured asymmetry in the T-odd variable ξ = pγ · (pµ × pπ)/ m is −0.03 ± 0.13. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The branching ratio in the charged-pion-kinetic-energy region of 55 to 90 MeV for the direct photon emission in the K − → π−π0γ decay has been measured using in-flight decays detected with the ISTRA+ setup operating in the 25-GeV/ c negative secondary beam of the U-70 PS. The value Br(DE)=[0.37±0.39(stat.)±0.10(syst.)]×10−5 obtained from the analysis of 930 completely reconstructed events is consistent with the average value of two stopped-kaon experiments, but it differs by 2.5 standard deviations from the average value of three in-flight-kaon experiments. Abstract

The ηη system produced in charge-exchange π–p interaction at a momentum of 32.5 GeV/c is studied in an experiment performed with the GAMS-4π spectrometer at the 70-GeV accelerator of the Institute for High-Energy Physics (IHEP, Protvino). A partial-wave analysis is performed in the mass range between 1.1 and 3.9 GeV for –t < 0.2 (GeV/c)2, S, D, G, and J waves being taken into account in this analysis. The S wave has a complicated structure, displaying peaks at about 1.5 and 1.7 GeV. These peaks are associated with the f0(1500) and f0(1710) mesons. One of the solutions (preferable one) involves the f0(2200) and f2(1950) resonances. The mass region above 2.4 GeV is dominated by the G wave. A broad state of mass about 3 GeV and width 0.7 GeV is found in the J wave. Abstract

Abstract

The decay K[SUP-] → c[SUP-] vφ[SUP0] has been studied using in-flight decays detected with the ISTRA+ setup working at the 25-GeV negative secondary beam of the U-70 PS. About 130K events were used for the analysis. The λ+ parameter of the vector form factor has been measured: λ+ = 0.0293 ± 0.0015(stat.) ± 0.002(syst.).
