1. The 6Li exclusive breakup on 28Si at 13 MeV

Abstract

We have undertaken the study of 6 Li breakup on a 28 Si target near the Coulomb barrier through an angular distribution measurement. Alpha particles were recorded in coincidence with deuterons in order to determine exclusively the breakup of lithium. The results are analysed and are discussed, in a continuum discretized coupled channel framework (CDCC).

Abstract

The 6 Li + 28 Si elastic scattering was studied at near-barrier energies with the aim to probe the threshold anomaly. Angular distributions were measured over a wide angular range (θlab = 25 ◦ to 150 ◦ ) at 4 energies, namely, 7.5, 9, 11 and 13 MeV. The present data together with previous ones at higher energies, as well as elastic scattering data of 6 Li on various targets at near barrier energies, were analyzed by using optical potentials obtained in a double-folding framework. It was found that the strength of the real part of the potential remains almost independent of energy down to, and possible even below, barrier, while the strength of the imaginary part presents an increase at near barrier energies. Abstract

The structure of 6 He is explored with proton elastic and inelastic scattering to the first 2 + excited state (Q =− 1. 8M eV) of 6 He in the inverse kinematics using a 24.5 A MeV 6 He beam. The distorted wave approximation (DWA) with an optical potential obtained by folding an effective nucleon–nucleon (NN) g-matrix with the 6 He density matrix elements as given by a large basis shell model is used to analyse the data. The comparison of predictions with the data confirms the view that 6 He has

Abstract

Proton elastic scattering and inelastic scattering to the first excited state of 6He have been measured over a wide angular range using a 40.9A MeV 6He beam. The data have been analyzed with a fully microscopic model of proton-nucleus scattering using 6He wave functions generated from large space shell model calculations. Abstract

The reaction cross section for the halo nucleus 6 He on hydrogen has been measured at 36 MeV/nucleon using the transmission method and a value of σ R =409±22 mb was obtained. A coherent analysis within a microscopic model of this result in conjunction with (p,p) and (p,n) angular distributions has allowed the interaction potential to be uniquely determined. This analysis also allowed the 6 He density distribution to be explored.

Abstract

High energy γ -rays ( E γ >35 MeV) have been measured in coincidence with heavy residues emitted in reactions induced by a 37 MeV/u 36 Ar beam on a 98 Mo target. The γ -ray yield increases strongly with increasing linear momentum transfer indicating the importance of two-body collisions in the transfer mechanism. The high energy γ -ray multiplicity has been used to correlate the linear momentum transfer to the impact parameter. This correlation is compared to dynamical BNV simulations to show the essential role of two body nucleon-nucleon collisions at these bombarding energies.

Abstract

A new method to determine compound nuclear lifetimes at high excitation energies is proposed and applied to the system 12 C( 28 Si, α ) 36 Ar at two different bombarding energies, 190 and 277 MeV. The alpha particle spectra show a structure which directly reflects the fluctuating behavior of the first de-excitation step. Coherence widths and thus lifetimes for the nucleus 36 Ar were obtained via a correlation function analysis. The results at low excitation energies are consistent with standard statistical models while the result at high excitation energy is compatible with a theoretically predicted change of the level density parameter.

Abstract

The elastic scattering p( 6 He, 6 He)p and charge exchange reaction p( 6 He, 6 Li)n have been measured in reverse kinematics with a secondary 6 He beam. The angular distributions for these reactions were obtained. In the case of the charge exchange reaction, the ratio of the cross section for the Gamow-Teller transition to the ground state, and for the Fermi transition to the isobaric analog state is a measure of the relative strength of the two components of the exchange interaction, V στ and V τ . This ratio is found to be compatible with existing systematics for stable T = 1 nuclei, and no clear signature of a halo structure was found in the present data.

Abstract

High energy photons (20 E γ 14 N + Ni →γ+ X reactions were unambiguously observed in a Pb-glass detector array. The measured angular distributions exhibit a predominant dipole pattern. This rules out statistical and/or nucleon-nucleon production mechanisms. The data indicate instead a more coherent production mechanism reflecting the direction of relative motion of target and projectile.

10. Effect of deformation on the angular correlation of sequentially emitted light particles after fusion near the Coulomb barrier

Abstract

Angular correlations of light particles are calculated for sequentially statistical decay following fusion. It is shown that these correlations are sensitive to the deformation, and the calculation iscompared to experiment data for the reaction 28 Si( 12 C, 2α) 32 S gs . It is not possible to reproduce the angular correlation governed by the angular momenta of the first step transition 40 Ca → 36 Ar * using standard transmission coeffecient. Good quantitative agreement is obtained intoducing a strong deformation (β 2 ∼ 1.1) compatible with the deformation of fusion state as predicted from the TDHF calculations, but much higher than expected from the rotating liquid drop model.

11. A new method for the determination of the compound nucleus coherence width at high excitation energy

Abstract

The coherence width of the compound nucleus can be obtained from cross correlations of the energy spectra taken at different energies instead of the correlation function of the excitation function. In this way it is sufficient to cover an incident energy interval of the order of the compound nucleus width. We have applied this method to the reaction 12 C + 28 Si. The coherence width of 40 Ca is found in reasonable agreement with previous determinations. Indication is obtained for the presence of a second (smaller) coherence width which could correspond to anomalous long-living compound nucleus states.

Abstract

The knowledge of the nuclear forward amplitude ƒ n (0) could provide unique information on the origin of resonances observed in heavy-ion induced reactions. Even for strongly absorbing systems this amplitude is often large and can be easily measured. The conditions under which it is possible to obtain both the amplitude and the phase of ƒ n (0) are determined by the general properties of a nuclear forward glory.

Abstract

The spectroscopy of Ne-27 has been investigated through the one-neutron transfer reaction Ne-26(d, P)Ne-27 in inverse kinematics at 9.7 MeV/nucleon. The results strongly support the existence of a low-lying negative parity state in Ne-27, which is a signature of a reduced sd-fp shell gap in the N = 16 neutron-rich region, at variance with stable nuclei. Abstract

GANIL E405S; The weakly-bound 8He nucleus exhibits a neutron halo or thick neutron skin and is generally considered to have an α+4n structure in its ground state, with the four valence neutrons each occupying 1p3/2 states outside the α core. The 8He(p,t)6He reaction is a sensitive probe of the ground state structure of 8He, and we present a consistent analysis of new and existing data for this reaction at incident energies of 15.7 and Click to view the MathML source, respectively. Our results are incompatible with the usual assumption of a pure (1p3/2)4 structure and suggest that other configurations such as (1p3/2)2(1p1/2)2 may be present with significant probability in the ground state wave function of 8He.

Abstract

Cross sections for the elastic scattering of 6He radioactive nuclear beam on proton targets have been measured at 38.3 MeV/nucleon. With a view to test the ability of general optical potentials to reproduce the data for scattering of unstable nuclei, the present results, as well as other existing data for 6,8He, have been analyzed within the framework of the microscopic Jeukenne–Lejeune–Mahaux nucleon–nucleus potential. The angular distributions were found to be best reproduced by reducing the real part of the optical potential. This renormalization can be seen as a consequence of the complex polarization potential produced by the coupling to the continuum due to the weakly bound nature of the unstable nuclei. This effect can be simulated in a phenomenological analysis by a surface potential.

Abstract

International audience; The 10;11Be(p,p) and (12C, 12C) reactions were analyzed to determine the in uence of the weak binding energies of exotic nuclei on their interaction potential. The elastic cross sections were measured at GANIL in inverse kinematics using radioactive 10;11Be beams produced at energies of 39:1 A and 38:4A MeV. The elastic proton scattering data were analyzed within the framework of the microscopic Jeukenne-Lejeune-Mahaux (JLM) nucleon-nucleus potential. The angular distributions are found to be best reproduced by reducing the real part of the microscopic optical potential, as a consequence of the coupling to the continuum. These effects modify deeply the elastic potential. Including the Virtual Coupling Potential (VCP), we show the ability of the general optical potentials to reproduce the data for scattering of unstable nuclei, using realistic densities. Finally, the concepts needed to develop a more general and microscopic approach of the VCP are discussed.
