1. Hierarchy of Ideal Flatbands in Chiral Twisted Multilayer Graphene Models

Abstract: We propose models of twisted multilayer graphene that exhibit exactly flat Bloch bands with arbitrary Chern numbers and ideal band geometries. The models are constructed by twisting two sheets of Bernal-stacked multiple graphene layers with only intersublattice couplings. Analytically we show that flatband wave functions in these models exhibit a momentum space holomorphic character, leading to ideal band geometries. We also explicitly demonstrate a generic "wave function exchange" mechanism that generates the high Chern numbers of these ideal flatbands. The ideal band geometries and high Chern numbers of the flatbands imply the possibility of hosting exotic fractional Chern insulators which do not have analogues in continuum Landau levels. We numerically verify that these exotic fractional Chern insulators are model states for short-range interactions, characterized by exact ground-state degeneracies at zero energy and infinite particle-cut entanglement gaps.

2. Toward a Photonic Demonstration of Device-Independent Quantum Key Distribution

Abstract: The security of quantum key distribution (QKD) usually relies on that the users' devices are well characterized according to the security models made in the security proofs. In contrast, device-independent QKD-an entanglement-based protocol-permits the security even without any knowledge of the underlying quantum devices. Despite its beauty in theory, device-independent QKD is elusive to realize with current technologies. Especially in photonic implementations, the requirements for detection efficiency are far beyond the performance of any reported device-independent experiments. In this Letter, we report a proof-of-principle experiment of device-independent QKD based on a photonic setup in the asymptotic limit. On the theoretical side, we enhance the loss tolerance for real device imperfections by combining different approaches, namely, random postselection, noisy preprocessing, and developed numerical methods to estimate the key rate via the von Neumann entropy. On the experimental side, we develop a high-quality polarization-entangled photon source achieving a state-of-the-art (heralded) detection efficiency about 87.5%. Although our experiment does not include random basis switching, the achieved efficiency outperforms previous photonic experiments involving loophole-free Bell tests. Together, we show that the measured quantum correlations are strong enough to ensure a positive key rate under the fiber length up to 220 m. Our photonic platform can generate entangled photons at a high rate and in the telecom wavelength, which is desirable for high-speed generation over long distances. The results present an important step toward a full demonstration of photonic device-independent QKD.

Abstract: Using a dataset of 6.32 fb^{-1} of e^{+}e^{-} annihilation data collected with the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies between 4178 and 4226 MeV, we have measured the absolute branching fraction of the leptonic decay D_{s}^{+}→τ^{+}ν_{τ} via τ^{+}→e^{+}ν_{e}ν[over ¯]_{τ}, and find B_{D_{s}^{+}→τ^{+}ν_{τ}}=(5.27±0.10±0.12)×10^{-2}, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The precision is improved by a factor of 2 compared to the previous best measurement. Combining with f_{D_{s}^{+}} from lattice quantum chromodynamics calculations or the |V_{cs}| from the CKMfitter group, we extract |V_{cs}|=0.978±0.009±0.012 and f_{D_{s}^{+}}=(251.1±2.4±3.0) MeV, respectively. Combining our result with the world averages of B_{D_{s}^{+}→τ^{+}ν_{τ}} and B_{D_{s}^{+}→μ^{+}ν_{μ}}, we obtain the ratio of the branching fractions B_{D_{s}^{+}→τ^{+}ν_{τ}}/B_{D_{s}^{+}→μ^{+}ν_{μ}}=9.72±0.37, which is consistent with the standard model prediction of lepton flavor universality.

4. Proposed Superconducting Electride Li6C by sp -Hybridized Cage States at Moderate Pressures

Abstract: The combination of electride state and superconductivity within the same compound, e.g., ${[{\mathrm{Ca}}_{24}{\mathrm{Al}}_{28}{\mathrm{O}}_{6}]}^{4+}(4{e}^{\ensuremath{-}})$, opens up a new category of conventional superconductors. However, neither the underlying causations to explain superconducting behaviors nor effects of interstitial quasiatoms (ISQs) on superconductivity remain unclear. Here we have designed an efficient and resource-saving method to identify superconducting electrides only by chemical compositions and bonding characteristics. A representative superconducting electride ${\mathrm{Li}}_{6}\mathrm{C}$ with a noteworthy ${T}_{c}$ of 10 K below 1 Mbar among the known binary electrides has been revealed. Our first-principles studies unveil that the anomalous $sp$-hybridized cage-state ISQs, as a guest in ${\mathrm{Li}}_{6}\mathrm{C}$, exhibit unexpected ionic and covalent bonds, which act as a chemical precompression to lower dynamically stable pressure. More importantly, we uncover that, contrary to common expectations, the high ${T}_{c}$ is attributed to the strong electron-phonon coupling derived from the synergy of interatomic coupling effect, phonon softening caused by Fermi surface nesting, and phonon-coupled bands, which are mainly dominated by host $sp$-hybridized electrons, rather than the ISQs. Our present results elucidate a new superconducting mechanism of electrides and shed light on the way for seeking a high-${T}_{c}$ superconductor at lower pressures in cage-state electrides.

Abstract: Using 2.93 fb^{-1} of e^{+}e^{-} collision data taken with the BESIII detector at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV, the observation of the D^{0}→K_{1}(1270)^{-}e^{+}ν_{e} semileptonic decay is presented. The statistical significance of the decay D^{0}→K_{1}(1270)^{-}e^{+}ν_{e} is greater than 10σ. The branching fraction of D^{0}→K_{1}(1270)^{-}e^{+}ν_{e} is measured to be (1.09±0.13_{-0.16}^{+0.09}±0.12)×10^{-3}. Here, the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third originates from the assumed branching fraction of K_{1}(1270)^{-}→K^{-}π^{+}π^{-}. The fraction of longitudinal polarization in D^{0}→K_{1}(1270)^{-}e^{+}ν_{e} is determined for the first time to be 0.50±0.19_{stat}±0.08_{syst}.

Abstract: We report a study of the processes of e^{+}e^{-}→K^{+}D_{s}^{-}D^{*0} and K^{+}D_{s}^{*-}D^{0} based on e^{+}e^{-} annihilation samples collected with the BESIII detector operating at BEPCII at five center-of-mass energies ranging from 4.628 to 4.698 GeV with a total integrated luminosity of 3.7 fb^{-1}. An excess of events over the known contributions of the conventional charmed mesons is observed near the D_{s}^{-}D^{*0} and D_{s}^{*-}D^{0} mass thresholds in the K^{+} recoil-mass spectrum for events collected at sqrt[s]=4.681 GeV. The structure matches a mass-dependent-width Breit-Wigner line shape, whose pole mass and width are determined as (3982.5_{-2.6}^{+1.8}±2.1) MeV/c^{2} and (12.8_{-4.4}^{+5.3}±3.0) MeV, respectively. The first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. The significance of the resonance hypothesis is estimated to be 5.3 σ over the contributions only from the conventional charmed mesons. This is the first candidate for a charged hidden-charm tetraquark with strangeness, decaying into D_{s}^{-}D^{*0} and D_{s}^{*-}D^{0}. However, the properties of the excess need further exploration with more statistics.

Abstract: Randomness expansion where one generates a longer sequence of random numbers from a short one is viable in quantum mechanics but not allowed classically. Device-independent quantum randomness expansion provides a randomness resource of the highest security level. Here, we report the first experimental realization of device-independent quantum randomness expansion secure against quantum side information established through quantum probability estimation. We generate $5.47\times10^8$ quantum-proof random bits while consuming $4.39\times10^8$ bits of entropy, expanding our store of randomness by $1.08\times10^8$ bits at a latency of about $13.1$ h, with a total soundness error $4.6\times10^{-10}$. 8. Proposed Superconducting Electride Li_{6}C by sp-Hybridized Cage States at Moderate Pressures

Abstract: The combination of electride state and superconductivity within the same compound, e.g., [Ca_{24}Al_{28}O_{6}]^{4+}(4e^{-}), opens up a new category of conventional superconductors. However, neither the underlying causations to explain superconducting behaviors nor effects of interstitial quasiatoms (ISQs) on superconductivity remain unclear. Here we have designed an efficient and resource-saving method to identify superconducting electrides only by chemical compositions and bonding characteristics. A representative superconducting electride Li_{6}C with a noteworthy T_{c} of 10 K below 1 Mbar among the known binary electrides has been revealed. Our first-principles studies unveil that the anomalous sp-hybridized cage-state ISQs, as a guest in Li_{6}C, exhibit unexpected ionic and covalent bonds, which act as a chemical precompression to lower dynamically stable pressure. More importantly, we uncover that, contrary to common expectations, the high T_{c} is attributed to the strong electron-phonon coupling derived from the synergy of interatomic coupling effect, phonon softening caused by Fermi surface nesting, and phonon-coupled bands, which are mainly dominated by host sp-hybridized electrons, rather than the ISQs. Our present results elucidate a new superconducting mechanism of electrides and shed light on the way for seeking a high-T_{c} superconductor at lower pressures in cage-state electrides.

Abstract: We predict twisted double bilayer graphene to be a versatile platform for the realization of fractional Chern insulators readily targeted by tuning the gate potential and the twist angle. Abstract: Moir\'e flatbands, occurring, e.g., in twisted bilayer graphene at magic angles, have attracted ample interest due to their high degree of experimental tunability and the intriguing possibility of generating novel strongly interacting phases. Here we consider the core problem of Coulomb interactions within fractionally filled spin and valley polarized Moir\'e flatbands and demonstrate that the dual description in terms of holes, which acquire a nontrivial hole dispersion, provides key physical intuition and enables the use of standard perturbative techniques for this strongly correlated problem. In experimentally relevant examples such as ABC stacked trilayer and twisted bilayer graphene aligned with boron nitride, it leads to emergent interaction-driven Fermi liquid states at electronic filling fractions down to around $1/3$ and $2/3$ respectively. At even lower filling fractions, the electron density still faithfully tracks the single-hole dispersion while exhibiting distinct non-Fermi liquid behavior. Most saliently, we provide microscopic evidence that high temperature fractional Chern insulators can form in twisted bilayer graphene aligned with hexagonal boron nitride., Comment: 6+5 pages, 3+2 figures. Abstract: We study the e^{+}e^{-}→γωJ/ψ process using 11.6 fb^{-1} e^{+}e^{-} annihilation data taken at center-of-mass energies from sqrt[s]=4.008 GeV to 4.600 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage ring. The X(3872) resonance is observed for the first time in the ωJ/ψ system with a significance of more than 5σ. The relative decay ratio of X(3872)→ωJ/ψ and π^{+}π^{-}J/ψ is measured to be R=1.6_{-0.3}^{+0.4}±0.2, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic (the same hereafter). The sqrt[s]-dependent cross section of e^{+}e^{-}→γX(3872) is also measured and investigated, and it can be described by a single Breit-Wigner resonance, referred to as the Y(4200), with a mass of 4200.6_{-13.3}^{+7.9}±3.0 MeV/c^{2} and a width of 115_{-26}^{+38}±12 MeV. In addition, to describe the ωJ/ψ mass distribution above 3.9 GeV/c^{2}, we need at least one additional Breit-Wigner resonance, labeled as X(3915), in the fit. The mass and width of the X(3915) are determined. The resonant parameters of the X(3915) agree with those of the Y(3940) in B→KωJ/ψ and of the X(3915) in γγ→ωJ/ψ observed by the Belle and BABAR experiments within errors.

13. Intrinsic Quantum Anomalous Hall Effect with In-Plane Magnetization: Searching Rule and Material Prediction

Abstract: So far, most theoretically predicted and experimentally confirmed quantum anomalous Hall effects (QAHEs) are limited in two-dimensional (2D) materials with out-of-plane magnetization. In this Letter, starting from 2D nodal-line semimetal, a general rule for searching QAHE with in-plane magnetization is mapped out. Because of spin-orbital coupling, we found that the magnetization will prefer an in-plane orientation if the orbital of degenerate nodal-line states at the Fermi level have the same absolute value of magnetic quantum number. Moreover, depending on the broken or conserved mirror symmetry, either a QAHE or 2D semimetal can be realized. Based on first principles calculations, we further predict a real material of monolayer LaCl to be an intrinsic QAHE with in-plane magnetization. By tuning the directions of in-plane magnetization, the QAHE in LaCl demonstrates a threefold rotational symmetry with a Chern number of either +1 or -1, and the transition point is characterized by a 2D semimetal phase. All these features are quantitatively reproduced by tight-binding model calculations, revealing the underlying physics clearly. Our results greatly extend the scope for material classes of QAHE and hence stimulate immediate experimental interest.

14. Light-Induced Type-II Band Inversion and Quantum Anomalous Hall State in Monolayer FeSe

Abstract: Coupling a quantum anomalous Hall (QAH) state with a superconducting state offers an attractive approach to detect the signature alluding to a topological superconducting state [Q. L. He et al., Science 357, 294 (2017)SCIEAS0036-807510.1126/science.aag2792], but its explanation could be clouded by disorder effects in magnetic doped QAH materials. On the other hand, an antiferromagnetic (AFM) quantum spin Hall (QSH) state is identified in the well-known high-temperature 2D superconductor of monolayer FeSe [Z. F. Wang et al., Nat. Mater. 15, 968 (2016)NMAACR1476-112210.1038/nmat4686]. Here, we report a light-induced type-II band inversion (BI) and a QSH-to-QAH phase transition in the monolayer FeSe. Depending on the handedness of light, a spin-tunable QAH state with a high Chern number of ±2 is realized. In contrast to the conventional type-I BI resulting from intrinsic spin-orbital coupling (SOC), which inverts the band an odd number of times and respects time reversal symmetry, the type-II BI results from a light-induced handedness-dependent effective SOC, which inverts the band an even number of times and does not respect time reversal symmetry. The interplay between these two SOC terms makes the spin-up and -down bands of an AFM QSH state respond oppositely to a circularly polarized light, leading to the type-II BI and an exotic topological phase transition. Our finding affords an exciting opportunity to detect Majorana fermions in one single material without magnetic doping.

Abstract: Using 4.479 x 10(8) psi(3686) events collected with the BESIII detector, we search for the decays psi(3686) -> e(+)e(-)chi(cJ) and chi(cJ) -> e(+)e(-)J/psi, where J = 0, 1, 2. The decays psi(3686) -> e(+)e(-)chi(cJ) and chi(cJ) -> e(+)e(-)J/psi are observed for the first time. The measured branching fractions are B(psi(3686) -> e(+)e(-)chi(cJ)) = (11.7 +/- 2.5 +/- 1.0) x 10(-4), (8.6 +/- 0.3 +/- 0.6) x 10(-4), (6.9 +/- 0.5 +/- 0.6) x 10(-4) for J = 0, 1, 2, and B(chi(cJ) -> e(+)e(-)J/psi) = (1.51 +/- 0.30 +/- 0.13)x10(-4), (3.73 +/- 0.09 +/- 0.25)x10(-3), (2.48 +/- 0.08 +/- 0.16)x10(-3) for J = 0, 1, 2, respectively. The ratios of the branching fractions B(psi(3686) -> e(+)e(-)chi(cJ))/B(psi(3686) -> gamma chi(cJ)) and B(chi(cJ) -> e(+)e(-)J/psi)/B(chi(cJ) -> gamma J/psi) are also reported. Also, the alpha values of helicity angular distributions of the e(+)e(-) pair are determined for psi(3686) -> e(+)e(-)chi(c1,2) and chi(c1,2) -> e(+)e(-)J/psi.

Abstract: We devise local lattice models whose ground states are model fractional Chern insulators---Abelian and non-Abelian topologically ordered states characterized by exact ground state degeneracies at any finite size and infinite entanglement gaps. Most saliently, we construct exact parent Hamiltonians for two distinct families of bosonic lattice generalizations of the $\mathcal{Z}_k$ parafermion quantum Hall states: (i) color-entangled fractional Chern insulators at band filling fractions $\nu=k/(\mathcal{C}+1)$ and (ii) nematic states at $\nu=k/2$, where $\mathcal{C}$ is the Chern number of the lowest band in our models. In spite of a fluctuating Berry curvature, our construction is partially frustration free: the ground states reside entirely within the lowest band and exactly minimize a local $(k+1)$-body repulsion term by term. In addition to providing the first known models hosting intriguing states such as higher Chern number generalizations of the Fibonacci anyon quantum Hall states, the remarkable stability and finite-size properties make our models particularly well-suited for the study of novel phenomena involving e.g. twist defects and proximity induced superconductivity, as well as being a guide for designing experiments., Comment: 9 pages, 5 figures

Abstract: Two-dimensional lattice models subjected to an external effective magnetic field can form nontrivial band topologies characterized by nonzero integer band Chern numbers. In this Letter, we investigate such a lattice model originating from the Hofstadter model and demonstrate that the band topology transitions can be realized by simply introducing tunable longer-range hopping. The rich phase diagram of band Chern numbers is obtained for the simple rational flux density and a classification of phases is presented. In the presence of interactions, the existence of fractional quantum Hall states in both ∣C∣=1 and ∣C∣>1 bands is confirmed, which can reflect the band topologies in different phases. In contrast, when our model reduces to a one-dimensional lattice, the ground states are crucially different from fractional quantum Hall states. Abstract: We study the phase diagram of interacting electrons in a dispersionless Chern band as a function of their filling. We find hierarchy multiplets of incompressible states at fillings ν=1/3, 2/5, 3/7, 4/9, 5/9, 4/7, 3/5 as well as ν=1/5, 2/7. These are accounted for by an analogy to Haldane pseudopotentials extracted from an analysis of the two-particle problem. Important distinctions to standard fractional quantum Hall physics are striking: in the absence of particle-hole symmetry in a single band, an interaction-induced single-hole dispersion appears, which perturbs and eventually destabilizes incompressible states as ν increases. Abstract: Lattice models forming bands with higher Chern number offer an intriguing possibility for new phases of matter with no analogue in continuum Landau levels. Here, we establish the existence of a number of new bulk insulating states at fractional filling in flat bands with a Chern number C = Ν > 1, forming in a recently proposed pyrochlore model with strong spin-orbit coupling. In particular, we find compelling evidence for a series of stable states at ν = l/(2N + 1) for fermions as well as bosonic states at ν = l/(N + 1). By examining the topological ground state degeneracies and the excitation structure as well as the entanglement spectrum, we conclude that these states are Abelian. We also explicitly demonstrate that these states are nevertheless qualitatively different from conventional quantum Hall (multilayer) states due to the novel properties of the underlying band structure. 23. Proposed Superconducting Electride Li6C by sp-Hybridized Cage States at Moderate Pressures.

Abstract: The combination of electride state and superconductivity within the same compound, e.g., [Ca24Al28O6]4+(4e-), opens up a new category of conventional superconductors. However, neither the underlying causations to explain superconducting behaviors nor effects of interstitial quasiatoms (ISQs) on superconductivity remain unclear. Here we have designed an efficient and resource-saving method to identify superconducting electrides only by chemical compositions and bonding characteristics. A representative superconducting electride Li6C with a noteworthy Tc of 10 K below 1 Mbar among the known binary electrides has been revealed. Our first-principles studies unveil that the anomalous sp-hybridized cage-state ISQs, as a guest in Li6C, exhibit unexpected ionic and covalent bonds, which act as a chemical precompression to lower dynamically stable pressure. More importantly, we uncover that, contrary to common expectations, the high Tc is attributed to the strong electron-phonon coupling derived from the synergy of interatomic coupling effect, phonon softening caused by Fermi surface nesting, and phonon-coupled bands, which are mainly dominated by host sp-hybridized electrons, rather than the ISQs. Our present results elucidate a new superconducting mechanism of electrides and shed light on the way for seeking a high-Tc superconductor at lower pressures in cage-state electrides. 24. Quench Dynamics of Collective Modes in Fractional Quantum Hall Bilayers.

We show that applying an electric field in one layer induces oscillations of a spin-1 degree of freedom, whose frequency matches the long-wavelength limit of the dipole mode. On the other hand, oscillations of the long-wavelength limit of the quadrupole mode, i.e., the spin-2 graviton, as well as the combination of two spin-1 states, can be activated by a sudden change of band mass anisotropy. We construct an effective field theory to describe the quench dynamics of these collective modes. Abstract: Moiré flatbands, occurring, e.g., in twisted bilayer graphene at magic angles, have attracted ample interest due to their high degree of experimental tunability and the intriguing possibility of generating novel strongly interacting phases. Here we consider the core problem of Coulomb interactions within fractionally filled spin and valley polarized Moiré flatbands and demonstrate that the dual description in terms of holes, which acquire a nontrivial hole dispersion, provides key physical intuition and enables the use of standard perturbative techniques for this strongly correlated problem. In experimentally relevant examples such as ABC stacked trilayer and twisted bilayer graphene aligned with boron nitride, it leads to emergent interaction-driven Fermi liquid states at electronic filling fractions down to around 1/3 and 2/3, respectively. At even lower filling fractions, the electron density still faithfully tracks the single-hole dispersion while exhibiting distinct non-Fermi liquid behavior. 27. Intrinsic Quantum Anomalous Hall Effect with In-Plane Magnetization: Searching Rule and Material Prediction.

Abstract: So far, most theoretically predicted and experimentally confirmed quantum anomalous Hall effects (QAHEs) are limited in two-dimensional (2D) materials with out-of-plane magnetization. In this Letter, starting from 2D nodal-line semimetal, a general rule for searching QAHE with in-plane magnetization is mapped out. Because of spin-orbital coupling, we found that the magnetization will prefer an in-plane orientation if the orbital of degenerate nodal-line states at the Fermi level have the same absolute value of magnetic quantum number. Moreover, depending on the broken or conserved mirror symmetry, either a QAHE or 2D semimetal can be realized. Based on first principles calculations, we further predict a real material of monolayer LaCl to be an intrinsic QAHE with in-plane magnetization. By tuning the directions of in-plane magnetization, the QAHE in LaCl demonstrates a threefold rotational symmetry with a Chern number of either +1 or -1, and the transition point is characterized by a 2D semimetal phase. All these features are quantitatively reproduced by tight-binding model calculations, revealing the underlying physics clearly. 28. Light-Induced Type-II Band Inversion and Quantum Anomalous Hall State in Monolayer FeSe.

Abstract: Coupling a quantum anomalous Hall (QAH) state with a superconducting state offers an attractive approach to detect the signature alluding to a topological superconducting state [Q. L. He et al., Science 357, 294 (2017)], but its explanation could be clouded by disorder effects in magnetic doped QAH materials. On the other hand, an antiferromagnetic (AFM) quantum spin Hall (QSH) state is identified in the well-known high-temperature 2D superconductor of monolayer FeSe [Z. F. Wang et al., Nat. Mater. 15, 968 (2016)]. Here, we report a light-induced type-II band inversion (BI) and a QSH-to-QAH phase transition in the monolayer FeSe. Depending on the handedness of light, a spin-tunable QAH state with a high Chern number of ±2 is realized. In contrast to the conventional type-I BI resulting from intrinsic spin-orbital coupling (SOC), which inverts the band an odd number of times and respects time reversal symmetry, the type-II BI results from a light-induced handedness-dependent effective SOC, which inverts the band an even number of times and does not respect time reversal symmetry. The interplay between these two SOC terms makes the spin-up and -down bands of an AFM QSH state respond oppositely to a circularly polarized light, leading to the type-II BI and an exotic topological phase transition. 29. Exotic Non-Abelian Topological Defects in Lattice Fractional Quantum Hall States.

Abstract: We investigate extrinsic wormholelike twist defects that effectively increase the genus of space in lattice versions of multicomponent fractional quantum Hall systems. Although the original band structure is distorted by these defects, leading to localized midgap states, we find that a new lowest flat band representing a higher genus system can be engineered by tuning local single-particle potentials. Remarkably, once local many-body interactions in this new band are switched on, we identify various Abelian and non-Abelian fractional quantum Hall states, whose ground-state degeneracy increases with the number of defects, i.e, with the genus of space. This sensitivity of topological degeneracy to defects provides a "proof of concept" demonstration that genons, predicted by topological field theory as exotic non-Abelian defects tied to a varying topology of space, do exist in realistic microscopic models. Specifically, our results indicate that genons could be created in the laboratory by combining the physics of artificial gauge fields in cold atom systems with already existing holographic beam shaping methods for creating twist defects. In spite of a fluctuating Berry curvature, our construction is partially frustration free: the ground states reside entirely within the lowest band and exactly minimize a local (k+1) body repulsion term by term. In addition to providing the first known models hosting intriguing states such as higher Chern number generalizations of the Fibonacci anyon quantum Hall states, the remarkable stability and finite-size properties make our models particularly well suited for the study of novel phenomena involving, e.g., twist defects and proximity induced superconductivity, as well as being a guide for designing experiments. Abstract: Randomness expansion where one generates a longer sequence of random numbers from a short one is viable in quantum mechanics but not allowed classically. Device-independent quantum randomness expansion provides a randomness resource of the highest security level. Here, we report the first experimental realization of device-independent quantum randomness expansion secure against quantum side information established through quantum probability estimation. We generate 5.47×108 quantum-proof random bits while consuming 4.39×108 bits of entropy, expanding our store of randomness by 1.08×108 bits at a latency of about 13.1 h, with a total soundness error 4.6×10-10. Device-independent quantum randomness expansion not only enriches our understanding of randomness but also sets a solid base to bring quantum-certifiable random bits into realistic applications. 33. Exact Landau Level Description of Geometry and Interaction in a Flatband.

Abstract: Flatbands appear in many condensed matter systems, including the two-dimensional electron gas in a high magnetic field, correlated materials, and moiré heterostructures. They are characterized by intrinsic geometric properties such as the Berry curvature and Fubini-Study metric. The influence of the band geometry on electron-electron interaction is difficult to understand analytically because the geometry is in general nonuniform in momentum space. In this work, we study the topological flatband of Chern number C=1 with a momentum-dependent but positive definite Berry curvature that fluctuates in sync with Fubini-Study metric. We derive an exact correspondence between such ideal flatbands and Landau levels and show that the band geometry fluctuation gives rise to a new type of interaction in the corresponding Landau levels that depends on the center of mass of two particles. We characterize such interactions by generalizing the usual Haldane pseudopotentials. This mapping gives exact zero-energy ground states for short-ranged repulsive generalized pseudopotentials in flatbands, in analogy to fractional quantum Hall systems. Driving the center-of-mass interactions beyond the repulsive regime leads to a dramatic reconstruction of the ground states towards gapless phases. 34. Higher-Order Band Topology in Twisted Moiré Superlattice.

Abstract: The two-dimensional (2D) twisted bilayer materials with van der Waals coupling have ignited great research interests, paving a new way to explore the emergent quantum phenomena by twist degree of freedom. Generally, with the decreasing of twist angle, the enhanced interlayer coupling will gradually flatten the low-energy bands and isolate them by two high-energy gaps at zero and full filling, respectively. Although the correlation and topological physics in the low-energy flat bands have been intensively studied, little information is available for these two emerging gaps. In this Letter, we predict a 2D second-order topological insulator (SOTI) for twisted bilayer graphene and twisted bilayer boron nitride in both zero and full filling gaps. Employing a tight-binding Hamiltonian based on first-principles calculations, three unique fingerprints of 2D SOTI are identified, that is, nonzero bulk topological index, gapped topological edge state, and in-gap topological corner state. Most remarkably, the 2D SOTI exists in a wide range of commensurate twist angles, which is robust to microscopic structure disorder and twist center, greatly facilitating the possible experimental measurement. Our results not only extend the higher-order band topology to massless and massive twisted moiré superlattice, but also demonstrate the importance of high-energy bands for fully understanding the nontrivial electronics. 35. Test of Local Realism into the Past without Detection and Locality Loopholes.

Abstract: Inspired by the recent remarkable progress in the experimental test of local realism, we report here such a test that achieves an efficiency greater than (78%)² for entangled photon pairs separated by 183 m. Further utilizing the randomness in cosmic photons from pairs of stars on the opposite sides of the sky for the measurement setting choices, we not only close the locality and detection loopholes simultaneously, but also test the null hypothesis against local hidden variable mechanisms for events that took place 11 years ago (13 orders of magnitude longer than previous experiments). After considering the bias in measurement setting choices, we obtain an upper bound on the p value of 7.87×10-4, which clearly indicates the rejection with high confidence of potential local hidden variable models. One may further push the time constraint on local hidden variable mechanisms deep into the cosmic history by taking advantage of the randomness in photon emissions from quasars with large aperture telescopes.
