Using molecular dynamics simulation we have investigated the influence of random pinning on the phase diagram and melting scenarios of a two-dimensional system with the Hertz potential for $\ensuremath{\alpha}=5/2$. It has been shown that random pinning can cardinally change the mechanism of first-order transition between the different crystalline phases (triangular and square) by virtue of generating hexatic and tetratic phases: a triangular crystal to hexatic transition is of the continuous Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless (BKT) type, a hexatic to tetratic transition is of first order, and finally, there is a continuous BKT-type transition from tetratic to the square crystal.

We develop an approach to liquid thermodynamics based on collective modes. We perform extensive molecular dynamics simulations of noble, molecular and metallic liquids and provide the direct evidence that liquid energy and specific heat are well-described by the temperature dependence of the Frenkel (hopping) frequency. The agreement between predicted and calculated thermodynamic properties is seen in the notably wide range of temperature spanning tens of thousands of Kelvin. The range includes both subcritical liquids and supercritical fluids. This article presents the study of the generic behavior of viscosity of liquids based on some simple theoretical models, the soft-spheres and Lennard-Jones systems. The use of these simple models allows us to investigate in detail the viscosity behavior in a wide range of temperatures and pressures including the high-temperature-high-pressure limits. Based on the simulation results, we discuss the shape of isoviscosity lines and analyze the glass transition at high temperatures and high pressures. Despite the fact that the viscosity drastically increases in the limit of high temperatures and high pressures along the melting line, the relaxation time rapidly decreases in this region, and the system becomes further from the glass transition.

This articles presents a simulation study of the applicability of the Rosenfeld entropy scaling to the systems which can not be approximated by effective hard spheres. Three systems are studied: Herzian spheres, Gauss Core Model and soft repulsive shoulder potential. These systems demonstrate the diffusion anomalies at low temperatures: the diffusion increases with increasing density or pressure. It is shown that for the first two systems which belong to the class of bounded potentials the Rosenfeld scaling formula is valid only in the infinite temperature limit where there are no anomalies. For the soft repulsive shoulder the scaling formula is valid already at sufficiently low temperatures, however, out of the anomaly range., Comment: 11 pages, 14 figures

We report a computer-simulation study of the equilibrium phase diagram of a three-dimensional system of particles with a repulsive step potential. The phase diagram is obtained using free-energy calculations. At low temperatures, we observe a number of distinct crystal phases. We show that at certain values of the potential parameters the system exhibits the water-like thermodynamic anomalies: density anomaly and diffusion anomaly. The anomalies disappear with increasing the repulsive step width: their locations move to the region inside the crystalline phase., 6 pages, 5 figures
