Brains of rabbits were perfused by arterial blood via the internal carotids after ligation of vertebral and external carotid arteries. The effect of the reduction of cerebral perfusion volume on cerebral blood flow was studied by recording the clearance of Krypton-85 from the brains.

The changes in the status of the adenylic acid-creatine phosphate system and in glycogen, glucose, and lactate were investigated in canine kidneys during preservation in anaerobic and aerobic ischemia at normo- and hypothermia. For anaerobic ischemia, the kidneys were stored without additional measures; for aerobic ischemia, the ischemic kidneys were persufflated with gaseous O2 or gas mixtures containing O2 via the renal artery or vein (orthograde and retrograde aerobic ischemia respectively). Prior to preservation, the kidneys were flushed with cell-free perfusates.

A simple technique is described, which permits the interruption of circulation of blood to the intracranial nervous system of the dog without production of general circulatory collapse. The injection of a special polymerising mixture into both common carotide arteries results in a complete arrest of the cerebral circulation within a few seconds. The immediate and complete arrest of the cerebral circulation is proved electroencephalographically and by macerated preparations of the injected brains.
