This article aims to analyze a modern organization from the metaphors established by Gareth Morgan in his book "Images of Organizations," published in 1996. It is a narrative based on documentary analysis of secondary sources and on the participant observation of the authors who worked at Banco do Brasil SA. The work begins with an ontological and epistemological reflection on organizational studies and uses the qualitative narrative analysis, based on metaphors, from 1988 to 2009. The intersection of the narrative approach, which includes part of the life history of authors who are ex-employees with metaphors and consultation with other research on the organization, during the period considered by the research, compliments the analysis and provides an insight into the mechanisms used in its management. Thus, the paper presents a relevant and specific experience about the organization that does not predict replicability, a central characteristic of qualitative studies of subjective order. It was concluded that the metaphors used allowed us to analyze the organization during the period considered, contributing to a reflection on its policies and the effects on the individuals.
