Partial liquid ventilation (PLV) appears promising in the treatment of severe acute lung injury, but the stategy for optimal intrapulmonary perflubron (PFC) distribution is unclear (perfluro-octyl bromide, LiquiVent®, Alliance Pharmaceutical Corp, San Diego, CA). Abstract

Objective: High frequency oscillatory ventilation (HFOV) may allow aggressive lung recruitment while minimizing ventilator induced lung injury. Perflubron (perfluoro-octyl bromide, LiquiVentO, Alliance Pharmaceutical Corp., SanDiego, CA) (PFC) may attenuate lung inflammation and has salutory effects on pulmonary mechanics and gas exchange. We explored PFC dose response relationships during high frequency partial liquid ventiation(HFO-PLV).
