Cryptotendipes bullum Song & Wang, sp. nov. from Hainan Island, Oriental China is described and illustrated based on a single adult male. The species can easily be distinguished from its congeners by having a very long and slightly curved bare superior volsella with four apical setae and a prominent gonostylus, with a bulb-like inner projection medially. The fi rst cases of gynandromorphy in the non-biting midge genus Polypedilum Kieffer, 1912 (Diptera: Chironomidae) are reported. Gynandromorphs of two species, P. (Tripodura) unifascium (Tokunaga, 1938) and P. (Uresipedilum) bingoparadoxum Kawai, Inoue & Imabayashi, 1998, from China are described and illustrated. They were determined through comparison of mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 DNA barcodes with those of determined Polypedilum adult males. Two new species of Polypedilum (s. str.) Kieffer, 1912, from China with the anal point constricted apically, P. (s. str.) adustalum Zhang & Wang, sp. n., and P. The subgenus, Rheocricotopus (s. str.) Brundin, 1956 from China is reviewed. Rheocricotopus (Rheocricotopus) heterochros sp. nov. is described from an adult male. Rheocricotopus (R.) inaxeyeus Sasa, Kitami & Suzuki, 2001 and R. (R.) pauciseta Sæther, 1969 are recorded from China for the fi rst time.
