Purpose: The purpose of this study is to determine the need, purpose, nature, scope and the outcome of continuing education programs either having positive or negative effects on the personal and professional lives of the participants. Findings: Elaborated tlie effects of CEP on the librarians' professional lives and determined the librarians' needs and preferences for continuing education activities. Findings of the study revealed that CEPs improved librarians' professional skills and helped them learn new and up to date professional methods and technicjues. Also identified the barriers faced by Pakistani librarians while participating in CEPs. The study indicated that CEPs proved very helpful in capacity building of professional librarians. Design/methodology/approach: The study is based on a survey questionnaire adopted from various studies relating to Continuing Education Programs (CEP). Population of the study included 220 library professionals. The sample of the study consisted of 130 Librarians who attended the 9th and 10th LIS Conference organized by the DLIS, University of Peshawar in 2014 and 2017 held in Baragali Summer Campus of the University of Peshawar. Practical implications: It is expected that the results of this sfildy will be of practical importance to design continuing education programs for librarians. This study will stimulate CEPs managing associations or organizations to check outcomes, whether they are valuable for the participants. In this digital era ICT's are rapidly upgraded therefore, information professionals also need to update their knowledge and skills about ICTs for their personal developments, effective library services, and societal developments. Information professionals' attitudes are critical in determining the levels of the use and application of ICT. For this purpose, a survey questionnaire was distributed among 118 information professionals working in the public and private sector universities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to assess their attitude toward ICT. The finding regarding the attitude of university information professionals toward the use and application of ICT showed that information professionals have a positive attitude with a mean score of 3.55. It means that information professionals agreed and accepted the use and application of ICT in their libraries. It was recommended that a separate budget should be allocated in the universities or its libraries for training of their information professionals and whenever a new technology is acquired the information professionals' should be given an orientation or in-house training about the newly implemented ICT's. The information professionals should be encouraged to attend various programs such as seminar, conference and workshop on ICT. They should be given proper incentives in this regard. Information literacy skills are considered highly important for the students to seek information that could cater their academic and research needs. In other words, information literacy is elemental to the quality of educational achievements. This research is a case study conducted in COMSATS institute of Information Technology, Lahore to highlight the students' perceptions about the information literacy (IL) skills and its need analysis of the (IL) courses. The data were collected from the students of different departments including: Electrical Engineering, Computer Sciences, Management Sciences, and Chemical Engineering. A total of 480 semi-structured questionnaires were distributed among graduate students selected through convenient sampling. Among those, 306 questionnaires were received back with response rate 63.75%. The analysis of the data show that students' have positive perceptions about (IL) skills and it they have good skills of using, organizing, evaluating information. Furthermore, a large majority 90.19% of the students considered (IL) skills as very important but, a fact was that about 66% respondents did not receive the (IL) skills and this study strongly recommends training them regarding the (IL) skills for the effective and efficient use of information which ultimately will boost their educational output. The use of e-information resources in education and research has been recognized globally. Electronic resources are considered as the core of any dynamic collection in libraries. The rapid development of the e-databases, ICT devices and latest e-book technologies has largely changed the full set-up of informatics. This case study is conducted with a purpose to know the overall scenario of e-resource sharing among the research community in the University of Peshawar. A quantitative research design using descriptive survey method has been used to collect data from the respondents. A questionnaire was developed to collect data from a convenient sample of 334 respondents calculated through Rao soft Sample size calculator. The major findings showed that online thesis and dissertation', 'electronic journals' and 'online publish research report' were highly preferred by researchers to share as the electronic information resources. It also showed that research scholars mostly used 'e-audio-visual resources' and 'information available through web 2.0 applications' for 'academic work', while, 'electronic books', 'electronic journals', online abstract and indexes', 'online thesis and dissertations', 'online published research reports' and 'conference paper available online' for 'research' purpose. They used 'HEC databases' for continuing education/personal development' purpose. Majority of the respondents stated that ICT facilities such as 'library website or university website', 'computer lab facility/intemet (email)', 'sign board/notice board' and 'online university research journals' were provided to them by the university authorities. But, 'online discussion forum', 'Fax wireless communication' and 'reprographic facilities' were not available. The main problems identified in sharing of electronic information resource were 'problems of power supply', Tack of support of I.T staff *, and 'inadequate numbers of computer in computer lab'. The continuing professional development is very crucial to almost every profession today, library and information professionals are no exception. Obviously, they do need to be updated to serve their clients effectively and efficiently. This study was conducted with the purpose to assess the CPD aspects of the librarians working in the public and private sector universities of District Peshawar. The quantitative research design was applied to survey 110 librarians working in these universities. The data was collected through a self-designed questionnaire. The data received with 80% response rate was analyzed through SPSS and implications were drawn. It showed that CPD programs for library professionals were conducted rarely because of the unwillingness of the authorities or unawareness of the CPD needs by the professionals. Therefore, this research recommends to introduce the CPD as a normal practice in LIS profession, should be imbedded in promotional setup, the professional association should focus on the CPD of professionals and the schools of Library and information science should play their role by organizing seminars, conferences and workshops to cater the CPD needs of the librarians to equip them with a variety of hard and soft skills essential for the promotion and advancement of their profession and professional carrier. This study explores the information needs and seeking behavior of forestry scientists at the Pakistan Forest Institute. Peshawar. A total of 64 questionnaires out of 69 werereceived back from forestry scientists with ar, overall response rate of 92.75 percent. These data were supplemented by qualitative interviews of 12 selected respondents. The study revealed that the main motivation for seeking information by this group was their interest in personal development, conducting research, and keeping up to date. The top three frequently used information sources were books, journals, and newspapers and magazines. Interpersonal communication with colleagues, academic staff at PFI, and attending professional conferences were ranked as the three top communication channels. In-service training courses on information searching would be useful to improve their ISB. Enhanced library facilities will motivate them to use latest information sources. The results of this study can be used to provide improved information sources and services for forestry scientists and remove barriers to facilitate the use of forestry information. The aim of this study was to determine the status of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the University Libraries of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It covered the details about the hardware, software, e-recourses, in each library and the role of ICT in the provision of services offered. For data collection structured interviews were conducted of the University Librarians. The sample of the study was comprised of the four selected universities: University of Peshawar, Agricultural University, University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Peshawar and Khyber Medical University (KMU). The major findings revealed that all the major University libraries in Peshawar are using ICT but not adequately or with no proper pace. This weak state of affairs with regard to the status and implementation of ICT is due to many reasons including; insufficient strength of professional staff having lack of ICT skills with absence of training, lack of support of university management having played a crucial role in the present deplorable situation of these libraries in Peshawar. Therefore, both the library and the University's management need to pay serious attention towards the above mentioned problems so that the present status of ICT in the University Libraries may be improved. This paper considers library and information science research that has been conducted in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the North-Western Frontier Province of Pakistan since 1983 when the Department of Library & Information Science at the University of Peshawar started its classes in Library and Information Science. This paper reports an analysis of LIS research undertaken in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) from 1983 to 2012 and provides details of Masters Theses submitted to the LIS Department of the University of Peshawar, number of papers and books published and the subject covered by these publications. Universities pupils immensely rely on the library sources, which not only save their precious time but also assist them in their higher education. Keeping in view the graveness of library in the university education, an endeavor has been made to probe the effectuality and competence of services for students in the Central Library University of Peshawar. The study was conducted by using the survey method with a reasonable response rate of 60.6%. The preponderance of respondents declared the Central Library services effective in spite of the fact that more than half of the users accomplished up-to 50% of their informative needs through it. On the contrary, they were not satisfied from the attitude of the concerned personnel. The staff does not pay any heedful vigilance to them. The problems that they faced frequently are: the un-availabilities of digital/e-resources, catalogue/OPAC and poor networking. They suggested that library ought to provide updated books and develop its website and keep it up-to-date. Information and Communication Technology offer to the students a wide range and outlook. This topic was selected as the focus of this study, which concluded that LIS students believe that ICT's has eased their learning and its use is useful to make LIS education more striking, however, the lack of e-resources, trained ICT staff, and weak networking is still a serious constraint. In this age of technological advancement LIS students also use Internet search engines and web pages for acquiring the required information, but another important fact is that most of the Library and Information Science students are less satisfied from the available ICT facilities (Services and Equipments). In this modern age of science and technology knowledge has become a valuable source and plays a vital role in the lives of individuals, especially who are engaged in education and research. This paper focuses on the sharing of knowledge resources by research scholars of Edwards College, Peshawar Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The main logic is to determine the sharing of knowledge for various reasons e.g. the role of organization in support of sharing their knowledge by exploiting Information and Communicating Technology (ICT) facilities, scholars views about the format in which they preferred to share knowledge and also to investigate the effects of electronic resources on sharing their knowledge and the problems that they face in sharing knowledge. The survey was conducted through a structured questionnaire circulated among 30 research scholars of Edwards College Peshawar, involved in their studies at M. Phil/M.S and PhD levels. The total response rate was 99.9% percent. The responses received from the research scholars to 10 questions are presented in the form of tables and figures and analyzed by using simple methods of SPSS. The purpose of this study is to analyze the present situation and review the developments made in the first decade of this century (2000-2009). The study is delimited to formal courses and contents taught at university level. In data collection structured interviews with the academic staff of thirteen universities were conducted telephonically. The findings reveal that; most of the universities have regular faculty members ranging from 11 to 4. Almost all the universities are offering 2 years master programme. While department of LIS University of Karachi has 4 years B.S programme. The results also show that very few students with library education or experience seek admissions. The job market at KPK, Islamabad and Sindh is satisfactory, while in Punjab and Baluchistan the students arc not easily adjusted. In addition to that departments of LIS at the University of Punjab, University of Karachi and University of Peshawar have almost all necessary resources and facilities. The faculty members are inclined towards research and publication. Only few departments have their alumni. The common problems of the LIS departments are lack of finances and lack of highly qualified faculty. The study also puts forward few suggestions for improvement. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper discusses the different conceptions of 'Subject' in scattering of literature in scientific journals in relation to Bradford's Law. The study highlights the ambiguity found in the understanding of the 'subject' in Bradfordian scattering. It also looks at the controversy found in the law regarding its theoretical and mathematical explanations. The study suggests that different ways of operationalizing 'subjects' play an important role, therefore it should be given due consideration.
