The article presents a discussion on effects probiotics protocols on all-cause mortality and the incidence of necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) in preterm infants. Topics discussed include use of probiotics in preterm infants; indication for probiotics was based on infant birth weight and gestational age; and indications and contraindications, for health care providers would be beneficial in ensuring safe and consistent practices for probiotic administration.
