Transition-metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs), as emerging optoelectronic materials, necessitate the establishment of an experimentally viable system to study their interaction with light. In this study, we propose and analyze a WS 2 /PMMA/Ag planar Fabry-Perot (F-P) cavity, enabling the direct experimental measurement of WS 2 absorbance. By optimizing the structure, the absorbance of A exciton of WS 2 up to 0.546 can be experimentally achieved, which matches well with the theoretical calculations. Through temperature and thermal expansion strain induced by temperature, the absorbance of the A exciton can be tuned in situ. Furthermore, temperature-dependent photocurrent measurements confirmed the consistent absorbance of the A exciton under varying temperatures. This WS 2 /PMMA/Ag planar structure provides a straightforward and practical platform for investigating light interaction in TMDCs, laying a solid foundation for future developments of TMDC-based optoelectronic devices.

We proposed spectrally temporally cascaded optical parametric amplification (STOPA) using pump energy recycling to simultaneously increase spectral bandwidth and conversion efficiency in optical parametric amplification (OPA). Using BiB 3 O 6 and KTiOAsO 4 nonlinear crystals, near-single-cycle mid-infrared (MIR) pulses with maximum energy conversion efficiencies exceeding 25% were obtained in simulations. We successfully demonstrated sub-two-cycle, CEP-stable pulse generation at 1.8 µm using a four-step STOPA system in the experiment. This method provides a solution to solve the limitations of the gain bandwidth of nonlinear crystals and the low conversion efficiency in broadband OPA systems, which is helpful for intense attosecond pulse generation and strong laser field physics studies.

A multimode interference (MMI) coupler is one of the basic components for photonic integrated circuits. However, MMI couplers realized by conventional waveguides are polarization sensitive, which is undesired for many applications, such as optical switches and communications. In this Letter, we propose a polarization-insensitive MMI coupler on a 220-nm silicon-on-insulator platform by constructing different effective interference lengths for TE and TM modes assisted with subwavelength grating structures. The designed MMI coupler shows an excess loss of <0.24(0.43) dB and a power imbalance of <0.6(0.5) dB for the TE(TM) mode over the wavelength range of 1.5-1.6 µm in theory. Experimentally, the fabricated MMI exhibits low excess loss <0.64(0.53) dB and power imbalance <1(0.85) dB for the TE(TM) mode over a wavelength range of 1.55-1.61 µm.

A single-photon lidar based on multi-repetition-rate pulse train correlation and accumulation is proposed, and a ranging experiment is conducted on a 32 m target. By accumulating the correlation ranging results of pulse trains with internal spacings of 80, 100, and 125 ns, the signal-to-noise ratio of the cross correlation function is improved by about three-fold, which enables our method to improve the ranging precisions by more than 20% compared with the single repetition-rate method, and the shorter the acquisition time, the more obvious the advantage will be. Experimental results show that at an acquisition time of 0.01 s, our method can still achieve a ranging precision of 2.59 cm, while the single repetition-rate method can no longer obtain effective ranging results at this time. This method will be of great significance for realizing high-speed, large-scale unambiguous single-photon lidar ranging.

The transmission matrix (TM) is a powerful tool for focusing light through scattering media. Here, we demonstrate a Bessel-basis TM that enables tight focusing through the scattering media and reduces the full width at half maximum of the focus by 23% on average, as compared to the normally used Hadamard-basis TM. To measure the Bessel-basis TM, we establish a common-path inter-mode interferometer (IMI), which can fully utilize the pixels of the spatial light modulator, leading to an enhancement in the peak-to-background intensity ratio (PBR) of the focus. Experimental results suggest that the Bessel-basis TM can achieve a tighter focus behind the scattering media, and the PBR of the focus obtained by the IMI is around 14.3% higher than that achieved using the normal peripheral reference interferometry.

A light-field endoscope can simultaneously capture the three-dimensional information of in situ lesions and enables single-shot quantitative depth perception with minimal invasion for improving surgical and diagnostic accuracy. However, due to oversized rigid probes, clinical applications of current techniques are limited by their cumbersome devices. To minimize the size and enhance the flexibility, here we report a highly flexible and compact volumetric endoscope by employing precision-machined multiple micro-imaging devices (MIRDs). To further protect the flexibility, the designed MIRD with a diameter and height of 5 mm is packaged in pliable polyamide, using soft data cables for data transmission. It achieves the optimal lateral resolvability of 31 µm and axial resolvability of 255 µm, with an imaging volume over 2.3 × 2.3 × 10 mm 3 . Our technique allows easy access to the organism interior through the natural entrance, which has been verified through observational experiments of the stomach and rectum of a rabbit. Together, we expect this device can assist in the removal of tumors and polyps as well as the identification of certain early cancers of the digestive tract.

To the best of our knowledge, this paper first reports ErF 3 microcrystals controllably deposited in perfluoride glass using phase-separation engineering techniques. The sample exhibited strong upconversion red-light emission owing to the small distance between Er 3+ ions and low phonon energy (585 cm -1 ). The sample has a high red/green ratio of up to 18.6, which, to our knowledge, is the highest reported value in Er 3+ -doped fluoride glass ceramics. Furthermore, the sample has a long fluorescence lifetime (3.18 ms @660 nm), good color saturation (0.6255,0.3707), and good thermal stability ( Δ E =0.31 e V ). Therefore, this sample has the potential for application across multiple fields, such as color display, visible laser, and lighting.

In this work, the spectroscopic properties of 1.0 µm emission in Nd 3+ /Yb 3+ co-doped phosphate glasses were systematically investigated under 808 nm excitation. Notably, broadband 1.0 µm emission with a full width at half maximum (FWHM) of 96 nm was obtained in the phosphate glass doped with 2 mol.% Nd 2 O 3 and 1 mol.% Yb 2 O 3 . In addition, the energy transfer microscopic parameter and transfer efficiency were analyzed. What is more, multimaterial fibers with Nd 3+ /Yb 3+ co-doped phosphate glass core and silicate cladding were successfully drawn by using the molten core method. An intense 1.0 µm amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) can be realized in a 3 cm long multimaterial fiber. More importantly, the FWHM of the ASE can reach as large as 60 nm when excited at 976 nm. These results demonstrate that the Nd 3+ /Yb 3+ co-doped phosphate glasses and fibers are promising gain materials for amplifier and laser applications in photonics.

A bimolecular excited system is considered as a promising candidate for developing white organic light-emitting diodes (WOLEDs) with reduced phosphorescent components. However, for actualizing high-performance WOLED, little attention has been paid to electromers compared to exciplexes. Herein, we construct the bimolecular excited system to prepare fluorescent WOLEDs by combining the electromer emission with the exciplex emission, achieving a maximum power efficiency of 11.8 lm/W with a color rendering index (CRI) of over 80. Furthermore, phosphorescent dopants are doped into an exciplex host to construct hybrid WOLEDs. The fabricated complementary-color and three-color devices achieve maximum efficiencies of 55.3 cd/A (46.8 lm/W) and 34.1 cd/A (26.8 lm/W), respectively. The spectral coverages of WOLEDs are broadened by the bimolecular excited system, and CRIs are further improved at high luminance. Our strategy may bring light to the future development of highly efficient WOLEDs with economy and sustainability.

Er 3+ -doped glass and fiber are very attractive for near-infrared (NIR) lasers and photonic applications. In this work, the full width at half maximum (FWHM) of NIR fluorescence emission of the Er 3+ -doped germanate glass can be broadened from 72 to 99 nm when Al 2 O 3 was added. In addition, the spectroscopic properties, including absorption and emission spectra, Judd-Ofelt intensity parameters, absorption and emission cross sections, gain coefficient, and fluorescence lifetime, of the Al 2 O 3 -modified germanate glass were systematically investigated. What is more, silicate-clad heavily Er 3+ -doped germanate core multimaterial fibers were successfully drawn by a rod-in-tube method. Notably, broadband NIR amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) with an FWHM of 120 nm was achieved in this new fiber. To the best of our knowledge, this is the largest FWHM reported for Er 3+ -doped germanate glass fibers. These results suggest that the as-drawn Er 3+ -doped germanate glass fiber with superior performances is a promising candidate for broadband optical amplification.

The deep application of chiral metasurfaces requires higher flexibility. Herein, we propose a multidimensional tunable chiral graphene metasurface, which uses coherent control to obtain more than 0.8 circular conversion dichroism (CCD) at 2.4 THz as a transmission structure. Its operating frequency can be changed in the 1.3-2.4 THz range, while the amplitude has almost perfect modulation depth in the range of 0-0.8. The mechanism of differential absorption was analyzed through numerical simulation. The device designed is easy to obtain reverse CCD, which is used for unit layout and proves its advantages in near-field imaging. Our work has broadened the path for the development of chiral metasurfaces towards higher degrees of freedom.

The crucial zero-order light due to the pixelation effect of spatial light modulator (SLM) has been a serious issue in the field of light modulation, especially in applications with a high numerical aperture optical system. In this investigation, we report that by properly adjusting the high-level and low-level pixel voltages of an SLM, the zero-order light caused by the pixelation effect of an SLM can be significantly eliminated. The method is further validated under an inverted fluorescence microscope. The experimental results show that the zero-order light can be inhibited up to 91.3%, accompanied by an improvement of the modulation efficiency from 77.5% to 92.6%.

A 1940 nm single-frequency distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) fiber laser was demonstrated based on a Tm : YAG/Ho : YAG-co-derived silica fiber (THCDSF). The THCDSF, which had a core dopant concentration of 8.02 wt.% Tm 2 O 3 and 1.18 wt.% Ho 2 O 3 , was prepared via the melt-in-tube (MIT) method using a Tm : YAG and a Ho : YAG as the precursor core and a silica tube as the cladding. Employing 1.8 cm of the THCDSF, we achieved a maximum single-frequency output power of 315 mW at 1940 nm when pumped by a 1610 nm fiber laser. The slope efficiency of the laser was 29.68% for the absorbed pump power. The laser linewidth was less than 23.65 kHz, and the relative intensity noise (RIN) stabilized at -145 dB/Hz after exceeding 4.8 MHz. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first demonstration of a single-frequency DBR laser with a Tm 3+ /Ho 3+ fiber as the gain medium.

We experimentally demonstrated polarization multiplexing schemes in a tilted fiber grating (TFBG) to achieve polarization-independent fiber-optic surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensors. The first used two orthogonal polarized lights separated by a polarization beam splitter (PBS) that are p-polarized in polarization-maintaining fiber (PMF) and precisely aligned with the tilted grating plane, so as to achieve the transmission of p-polarized light in two opposite directions of the Au-coated TFBG to excite SPR. Alternatively, polarization multiplexing was also achieved by exploring two polarization components to achieve the SPR effect through a Faraday rotator mirror (FRM). The SPR reflection spectra are polarization-independent of the light source and any perturbations to fibers, which are explained by the superposition of p- and s-polarized transmission spectra in equal proportions. The spectrum optimization is presented to reduce the proportion of the s-polarization component. A polarization-independent TFBG-based SPR refractive index (RI) sensor with a wavelength sensitivity of 555.14 nm/RIU and an amplitude sensitivity of 1724.92 dB/RIU for small changes is obtained, exhibiting unique advantages of minimizing the polarization alterations by mechanical perturbations.

We investigate the single photon scattering in a phonon-photon hybrid system in the waveguide quantum electrodynamics (QED) scheme. In our consideration, an artificial giant atom, which is dressed by the phonons in a surface acoustic wave resonator, interacts with a coupled resonator waveguide (CRW) nonlocally via two connecting sites. Together with the interference effect by the nonlocal coupling, the phonon serves as a controller to the transport of the photon in the waveguide. On the one hand, the coupling strength between the giant atom and the surface acoustic wave resonator modulates the width of the transmission valley or window in the near resonant regime. On the other hand, the two reflective peaks induced by the Rabi splitting degrade into a single one when the giant atom is large detuned from the surface acoustic resonator, which implies an effective dispersive coupling. Our study paves the way for the potential application of giant atoms in the hybrid system.

The optical sparse aperture (OSA) imaging technique is capable of improving the spatial resolution of a telescope while maintaining lower size, weight, and cost. The majority of OSA system researches separately focus on the design optimization of aperture layout and the method for image restoration, which have great design redundancy. In this Letter, an end-to-end design framework that simultaneously optimizes the aperture layout parameters of the OSA system and neural network parameters of image restoration is proposed, which achieves excellent imaging quality. The results show that adequate image mid-frequency information captured by the OSA system benefits network processing more than incomplete high-frequency information in a few directions. Based on this framework, we design a simplified OSA system on geostationary orbit. The simulation results show that our simplified OSA system with six sub-apertures measuring 1.2m each has a comparable imaging performance to a single-aperture system measuring 12 m.

We propose a simple and robust all-optical pulse sampling method to characterize the temporal profiles of ultrashort laser pulses. The method is based on a third-harmonic generation (THG) process with perturbation in ambient air, which requires no retrieval algorithm and can be potentially applied to electric field measurement. The method has been successfully used to characterize multi-cycle and few-cycle pulses with a spectral range from 800 nm to 2200 nm. Considering the broad phase-matching bandwidth of THG and extremely low dispersion of air, this method is suitable for ultrashort pulse characterization even for single-cycle pulses in the near- to mid-infrared range. Thus, the method provides a reliable and highly accessible approach for pulse measurement in ultrafast optics research.

Holographic display is considered as a promising three-dimensional (3D) display technology and has been widely studied. However, to date, the real-time holographic display for real scenes is still far from being incorporated in our life. The speed and quality of information extraction and holographic computing need to be further improved. In this paper, we propose an end-to-end real-time holographic display based on real-time capture of real scenes, where the parallax images are collected from the scene and a convolutional neural network (CNN) builds the mapping from the parallax images to the hologram. Parallax images are acquired in real time by a binocular camera, and contain depth information and amplitude information needed for 3D hologram calculation. The CNN, which can transform parallax images into 3D holograms, is trained by datasets consisting of parallax images and high-quality 3D holograms. The static colorful reconstruction and speckle-free real-time holographic display based on real-time capture of real scenes have been verified by the optical experiments. With simple system composition and affordable hardware requirements, the proposed technique will break the dilemma of the existing real-scene holographic display, and open up a new direction for the application of real-scene holographic 3D display such as holographic live video and solving vergence-accommodation conflict (VAC) problems for head-mounted display devices.

The realization of flexible tuning and enhanced chiral responses is vital for many applications in nanophotonics. This study proposes to manipulate the collective optical responses with heterostructures consisting of chiral dielectric metasurfaces and achiral J-aggregates. Owing to the resonance coupling between the chiral quasi-bound states in the continuum (QBICs) and the achiral exciton mode, large mode splitting and anticrossing are observed in both the transmission and circular dichroism (CD) spectra, which indicates the formation of hybrid chiral eigenmodes and the realization of the strong coupling regime. Considering that the radiative and dissipative damping of the hybrid eigenmodes depends on the coherent energy exchange, the chiral resonances can be flexibly tuned by adjusting the geometry and optical constants for the heterostructure, and the CD of the three hybrid eigenmodes approach the maximum (∼1) simultaneously when the critical coupling conditions are satisfied, which can be promising for enhanced chiral light-matter interactions.

Rare-earth (RE) ions doped laser glass has attracted the interest of many researchers because of its numerous potential applications in planar waveguides and fiber lasers. In this work, the 2-µm and upconversion luminescence properties of Ho 3+ are simultaneously enhanced through the design of components used to regulate the network structure of the germanate glass. Furthermore, the thermal, structural, and spectroscopic properties of the Ho 3+ /Yb 3+ co-doped germanate laser glass are systematically investigated. It is noted that the calculated gain coefficient of the Nb 2 O 5 modified germanate laser glass can reach as high as 3.05 cm -1 at 2047 nm. These results suggest that the prepared germanate laser glass with superior performances is a promising candidate for 2-µm mid-infrared laser materials applications.

A pulsed pumped four-wave mixing process via χ (3) nonlinearity in an optical fiber can generate optical pulses with continuous variable quantum correlation. However, pairwise correlation of the generated pulses in this system has not been demonstrated. Here we report a time-domain measurement of an intensity difference squeezed state generated in a fiber. With a fast response differential detection system, we show the generated twin-beam pulses are pairwisely correlated, and -3.8-dB (-8.1 dB after detection losses correction) intensity difference squeezing degree is measured in the time domain. Our result is beneficial for generating multi-mode entangled state by time-division multiplexing in fiber system.

Due to the high performance and low cost, spintronic terahertz emitters (STEs) have been a hot topic in the field of terahertz sources. However, most of the research focuses on the THz generation process and little attention has been paid to the control and modulation of the THz wave generated by the STE. In this Letter, a unidirectional spintronic terahertz emitter (USTE) integrating a common STE with a metal grating is proposed to manipulate the THz emission process. The dyadic Green's function method and finite element method are adopted to survey the characteristics of the USTE. Simulations show that the metal grating not only has a transmission larger than 97% in the optical band, but also has a higher reflectivity larger than 99% in the THz band. As a result, the USTE has a unidirectional THz emission along the direction of the pump beam with a larger than 4-fold enhancement in intensity. Moreover, the USTE has the capability of tuning the central frequency and THz wave steering by adjusting the distance and angle between the STE and the metal grating. We believe that this USTE can be used in THz wireless communications and holographic imaging, especially in the field of THz bio-sensing, which needs some resonance frequencies to sense.

In this Letter, we introduce a computer-generated hologram (CGH) optimization method to enhance the depth cue based on complex amplitude modulation (CAM). An iterative algorithm is designed to generate the optimized random phase (ORAP) according to the size of the target image and the bandwidth limitation condition. The ORAP with limited bandwidth is used as the initial phase of the target image and the hologram is encoded based on the analytical formula. Our proposal can maintain the advantages of CAM and achieve holographic three-dimensional (3D) display with an enhanced depth cue. It is expected that the proposed method could be widely used in holographic field in the future.

We propose and demonstrate an all-optical pulse sampling technique based on the transient grating (TG) procedure with perturbation, which provides a simple and robust manner to characterize an ultrashort laser pulse without employing a retrieval algorithm. In our approach, a two-orders weaker perturbation pulse perturbs the diffracted pulse from the TG, which is generated by another strong fundamental pulse. The modulation of the diffracted pulse energy directly represents the temporal profile of the perturbation pulse. We have successfully characterized few-cycle and multi-cycle pulses, which is consistent with the results verified by the widely employed frequency-resolved optical gating (FROG) method. Our method provides a potential way to characterize ultrashort laser waveform from the deep-UV to far-infrared region.

Ultrathin titanium nitride (TiN) films have become a novel material flatform for constructing active metasurfaces in the near-infrared region. In this Letter, we numerically achieved the dual functions of switchable linear dichroism (LD) and tunable perfect absorption in a G-shape gold resonators/TiN film hybrid metasurface by gating ultrathin TiN films. As the carrier density of TiN decreases, the modulation depth for LD strength is about 70% at 1211 nm. Meanwhile, the response wavelength of perfect absorption (∼1) shifts to the blue by around 130 nm with a change of carrier density of 12%. Our proposed active metasurface with the capability of strength-switchable LD and wavelength-tunable perfect absorption has considerable potential in dynamic electro-optic modulation and flat photonic devices with reconfigurable functionalities.

In this Letter, we introduce a multiplexing encoding method with a bandwidth constraint strategy to realize a color dynamic holographic display based on complex amplitude modulation (CAM). The method first uses the angular spectrum method (ASM) with a bandwidth constraint strategy to calculate the diffracted wavefronts of red, green, and blue channels. Then the diffracted wavefronts of three channels are synthesized into a color-multiplexed hologram (CMH) based on the double-phase method after they interfere with off-axis reference lights. The color 3D objects can be reconstructed when the combination of red, green, and blue lights is used to illuminate the double-phase CMH, and a 4f system with a slit filter is introduced to extract the desired spectrums. Numerical simulations and optical experiments are performed to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method and the results show that it can achieve a color holographic display with high quality. Our proposal is simple and fast, and the display system is compact. It is expected that our proposed method could in future be widely used in the holographic field.

Integrating geometric and diffractive optics functions is urgently needed to develop compact equipment for integrating diffraction manipulation and arrayed outputs. In this Letter, a superimposed three-level-grooved surface is proposed to manipulate the diffraction of visible light and provide an array output. Structure design, vibration-assisted fly-cutting, finite-difference time-domain calculations, and diffraction tests are conducted to fabricate the three-level grooves and explore the diffraction mechanism. Nanogrooves with a period close to the middle wavelength of the spectrum primarily enhances the diffraction at low diffraction orders and angles because of resonance. Optical tests prove that these superimposed three-level nanogrooves have a large bandwidth when providing the array output and serving to control and transmit diffracted light. They also show stronger performance for manipulating low diffraction orders.

We propose and design a 19-ring-air-core fiber that can support about 3000 orbital angular momentum (OAM) modes (156 modes in each ring) with <-80 dB inter-ring cross talk across the entire C and L bands after 100-km fiber propagation. Moreover, the eigenmodes are all separated from their adjacent modes by effective index differences >2.67 × 10 -4 and mode groups by > 1.90 × 10 -2 , which can guarantee the stable transmission of OAM modes. This designed fiber is a potential candidate for applications in spatial division multiplexing (SDM) of optical channels to improve the capacity of next-generation high-speed optical communication systems, especially in short-distance applications. In this Letter, we also show the relationship between supported OAM mode numbers, total cross talk, and effective refractive index of intra-ring modes during the optimization of fiber through numerical simulations. It can provide a related reference for the future design of multi-ring-core fibers.

Accurate magnetic field measurement is the key to evaluating the second-order Zeeman effect. The conventional method is to deduce the magnetic field by determining the center frequency of the magnetic-field-sensitive Ramsey fringes. In this Letter, we present a more rigorous theory for this method and demonstrate that the current peak-searching method has a non-negligible sub-Hz or even larger deviation. We introduce an improved method that considers more parameters and a strict formula that can correct the deviation and suppress it to below 0.1 Hz. Corresponding experiments on the 85 Rb atomic fountain demonstrate that this improved method is expected to enhance the precision of magnetic field measurement and improve the atomic fountain clock.

Circular dichroism (CD) is required in the applications of biological detection, analytical chemistry, etc. Here, we numerically demonstrated large-range switchable CD by controlling the phase change of Ge 2 Sb 2 Te 5 (GST) in a zigzag array. At the amorphous state of GST (a-GST), the strong and dual-waveband CD effects are realized via the selective excitations of electric, magnetic, and toroidal resonances. With the transition from a-GST to crystalline state GST, CD strengths are tailored dynamically in large ranges. In detail, the CD magnitudes change by about 0.93 and the modulation depths exceed 94% at dual wavebands. The strong CD effects and large-range switch capability in the GST-based metasurfaces will boost the development of active chiroptical devices.

In this Letter, we propose a non-iterative multifold strip segmentation phase method for a spatial light modulator (SLM) to generate multifocal spots of diverse beams (Airy, spiral, perfect vortex, and Bessel-Gaussian beams) in a high-numerical-aperture system, with up to 6D controllability. The method is further validated by an inverted fluorescence microscope. By adjusting the bright and dark voltage parameters of the SLM, zero-order light caused by the pixelation effect of the SLM has been successfully eliminated. We hope this research provides a more flexible and powerful approach for the rapid modulation of multi-focus light fields in the development of biomedicine and lithography.

Chip-scale optical tweezers, which are usually implemented in a planar format without using bulky diffractive optical elements, are recognized as a promising candidate to be integrated with a lab-on-a-chip system. However, traditional chip-scale optical tweezers are often static and allow for only one type of manipulation functionality since the geometrical parameters of the tweezers are fixed. Herein, we introduce a new, to the best of our knowledge, class of on-chip optical tweezers for diverse types of manipulation of micro-particles. Utilizing both the propagation phase and Pancharatnam-Berry phase, we experimentally demonstrate the spin-dependent trapping, moving, and circling of micro-particles with the transfer of optical gradient force and orbital angular momentum to particles. We further show that the spin angular momentum of the output beam provides an additional degree of freedom to control the spinning rotation of particles. This new type of optical tweezers paves the way for multifunctional and dynamical trapping and manipulation of particles with a lab-on-a-chip system.

Deep neural networks (DNNs) have been successfully applied for accurate optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) monitoring. However, the performance of OSNR monitoring substantially degrades when a mega dataset is inaccessible. Here, we demonstrate an accurate OSNR monitoring scheme based on a data-augmentation (DA)-assisted DNN with a small-scale dataset. When a 20 GBaud quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK) signal is transmitted over 400 to 2600 km standard single-mode fiber (SSMF) with an OSNR range from 8 to 14 dB, we experimentally evaluate the minimum dataset size to secure a mean absolute error (MAE) of OSNR monitoring less than 1 dB. The DA-assisted scheme only requires 50% of the raw data, in comparison with the traditional DNN scheme. Thus, the DA-assisted DNN scheme is promising for field-trial accurate OSNR monitoring, especially when the collection of mega datasets is inconvenient.

Integral imaging, as an excellent light-field three-dimensional (3D) imaging technique, is considered as one of the most important technologies for 3D encryption because of its obvious advantages of high robustness, security, and computational feasibility. However, to date, there is no effective cryptanalysis technology for the light-field 3D cryptosystem. In this Letter, a cryptanalysis algorithm based on deep learning for the light-field 3D cryptosystem is presented. The 3D image can be optically retrieved by the trained network model without encryption keys. The experimental results verify the feasibility and effectiveness of our proposed method.

Electrically pumped semiconductor mode-locked lasers (SMLs) are promising in a wide range of applications due to compact size, high energy efficiency, and low cost. However, the long gain interaction length increases the spontaneous emission noise. In this Letter, an external cavity structure is adopted to improve the SML noise performance, as well as the flexibility to adjust the repetition rate. Two external cavity SMLs with repetition rates of 255 MHz and 10 GHz are demonstrated. For the 10 GHz SML, the signal-noise-ratio and radio frequency linewidth of the fundamental frequency reach 81.1 dB and 40 Hz, respectively. The high performance makes the laser a promising light source for microwave and communication applications.

We theoretically demonstrate a novel, to the best of our knowledge, mechanism for dark pulse excitation in normal dispersion microresonators exploiting free carrier dispersion and free carrier absorption effects due to multi-photon absorption. Dark pulses can be generated in the three- and four-photon absorption regimes in the presence or absence of external reverse bias to control the lifetime of free carriers, respectively. Direct generation of dark pulses is proven to be feasible in both regimes with a frequency fixed laser. The dynamics of their temporal and spectral evolution have also been investigated. Our findings establish a reliable path for dark pulse and Kerr microcomb generation in related platforms with simplified controlling and tuning techniques.

The photoluminescence (PL) efficiency of two-dimensional (2D) transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) is extremely low under high power excitation, limiting its potential in display and light-emission application. This arises from the much shorter lifetime of non-radiative recombination than radiative recombination, wherein photo-carriers tend to decay through non-radiative processes. Herein, a "molecular state" near the valence band is successfully introduced into the ${{\rm MoS}&#95;2}$ monolayer to increase the density of radiative states and speed up the exciton relaxation. This reduces the recombination lifetime of excitons by two orders of magnitude and forms vigorous competition with non-radiative decays. As a consequence, dozens of times enhancement of PL in ${{\rm MoS}&#95;2}$ monolayers under high excitation power (${\rm G}\sim{{10}^{19}}\;{{\rm cm}^{- 2}}\cdot{{\rm S}^{- 1}}$) is realized. These results provide an effective method to improve PL efficiency under high injection levels for applications of 2D materials in light-emission industry.
