Abstract

The article discusses a study seeking to verify whether the characteristics of term neonates with acute intrapartum hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy and permanent central nervous system (CNS) impairment match the criteria developed by the Task Force on Neonatal Encephalopathy and Cerebral Palsy in the U.S. A reactive intrapartum fetal heart rate pattern and an umbilical artery cord pH were among the entry criteria. The study found that the entry criteria was met by 39 neonates.

Abstract

The study determines whether hospital-specific rates of gestational pyelonephritis may serve as a measure of the quality of ambulatory maternal care services in California. The rates of preterm birth and congenital neonatal infection were higher among pregnant women with pyelonephritis. Pregnant women on MediCal as payer have a higher risk because poverty may indirectly make them more physiologically vulnerable or because they receive suboptimal care.
