Aim: To improve the level of hospital workers' safety performance in response to emergencies (e.g. COVID‐19), this paper examines the relationship between hospital workers' job control on safety performance, and the mediating role of hospital safety climate and the moderating role of social support. Design: In this cross‐sectional questionnaire survey, a convenience sampling of hospital workers from three hospitals that have COVID‐19 cases from Beijing and Shandong Province in China. Methods: These questionnaires were used to obtain self‐reported data on hospital workers' job control, hospital safety climate, social support and safety performance. Mplus software was used to calculate CFA. SPSS25.0 software was used to calculate mean values, standard deviations, correlations and regression analyses. Results: The participants were 241 hospital workers from three hospitals in China (male = 55.2%, female = 44.8%; age range <30 to >45; physician = 58%, nurse = 22%, other hospital worker = 20%). A moderated mediation model among job control, hospital safety climate, social support and safety performance was supported. Moderated mediation analysis indicates hospital workers' job control effectively improves the level of safety performance; hospital safety climate plays a partially mediating role in the process of job control affecting hospital workers' safety performance; social support moderates the effect of work control on medical workers' safety climate. Aim: This study aimed to develop a tool to measure paediatric specialist nurses' core competencies and examine the scale's validity and reliability. Design: An exploratory quantitative study. Methods: This study was performed in April 2022 with 302 paediatric specialist nurses in mainland China. Items were created through a literature review, a qualitative interview, and the Delphi method. The data were evaluated using descriptive statistics, independent sample t‐test, explanatory factor analysis, Pearson correlation coefficient, Cronbach's alpha coefficient and split‐half reliability. Results: The final scale consisted of five factors and 32 items. The factors were communication, coordination and judgement abilities; professional technology mastery ability; specialist knowledge mastery ability; medical‐related processes; and evidence‐based nursing competencies. The explained total variance of the five factors was 62.216%. The scale‐level and item‐level CVI of this scale was 1.00, and the mean CVR of the total scale was 0.788. The Pearson correlation coefficients of each dimension and the total dimension of the scale was 0.709–0.892, and within each dimension, it was 0.435–0.651. Aim: To evaluate the psychometric properties of the Advance Care Planning Readiness Scale (ACPRS‐C) within the context of community‐dwelling older adults with chronic diseases residing in suburban counties in China. Design: Descriptive, cross‐sectional survey. Method s : The research method employed in this study is characterized as a methodological study. Self‐reported survey data were collected among community‐dwelling older adults with chronic diseases residing in suburban counties in China. Including the following psychometric characteristics, item analysis was performed using the decision value method and Pearson's correlation analysis. Content validity was assessed through expert panel evaluation. The internal consistency of the questionnaire was determined by calculating Cronbach's alpha coefficient and corrected item‐total correlation. Additionally, confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was utilized to assess the construct validity of the ACPRS‐C. Results: A total of 228 older adults participated in this psychometric study from August to October 2023. The item content validity index ranged from 0.80 to 1.00, while the scale content validity index was 0.945. The scale demonstrated excellent internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha = 0.931), and the correlation between items and total score was satisfactory. The structural validity was deemed robust (CFA model fit: chi‐square/df = 1.121, comparative fit index = 0.992). Conclusion: The ACPRS‐C is a scale with strong psychometric properties to assess the ACP readiness within the context of community‐dwelling older adults with chronic diseases residing in suburban counties in China. Aim: Moral courage among healthcare workers has been extensively studied. However, few studies have been conducted on oncology specialist nurses, who frequently encounter complex moral situations. This study aimed to describe the current situation regarding moral courage and explored its influence on oncology specialist nurses in China. Design: This was an exploratory, descriptive study. Methods: A convenience sample of 390 nurses was conducted from 15 hospitals in Sichuan Province, China, between March and May 2023. Participants were assessed using the Moral Distress Scale‐Revised, Nurses' Moral Courage Scale and the Moral Sensitivity Questionnaire. Results: The results demonstrated that moral courage was negatively associated with moral distress, and positively associated with moral sensitivity. Having a master's degree or above, an intermediate title or senior title, medical ethics training, moral distress or moral sensitivity contributed to explaining 54.1% of the variance in moral courage. Conclusions: Moral courage was associated with several factors. Developing clinical intervention strategies and effective teaching methods will be critical for improving moral courage. Aims: The aim of this study was to refine the Falling Risk Assessment Tool in Ophthalmology Inpatients (FRAT) and assess its psychometric properties. Design: A cross‐sectional design was used. Methods: A convenience sample of 730 patients in the ophthalmology department was recruited in a level A tertiary hospital in Guangdong Province from July 2021 to January 2022. Data were analysed using item analysis, interrater reliability, content validation, internal consistency reliability and exploratory factor analysis. Results: Five factors were extracted, accounting for 63.039% of the variance. The interrater reliability of the tool was 0.97. Cronbach's α was 0.658. The I‐CVI was 0.75–1.00, the S‐CVI/UA was 0.95 and the adjusted mean values of Kappa for indicators ranged from 0.72 to 1.00, as evaluated by the expert group. The FRAT showed satisfactory reliability and validity, and can be used to measure the fall risk assessment in ophthalmology inpatients. Aim: The study aimed to translate and adapt the traditional Chinese Food Allergy Quality of Life‐Parental Burden Questionnaire (TC‐FAQL‐PB) into simplified Chinese language and determine the validity and reliability of the translated version. Design: A methodologic study design involving instrument translation and psychometric evaluation was used for the present study. Methods: The simplified Chinese FAQL‐PB (SC‐FAQL‐PB) was developed following Guillemin's guidelines for cross‐cultural adaptation. A convenience sample of 230 participants was recruited. The psychometric properties were examined using internal consistency, test–retest reliability, item discrimination, content validity and construct validity. Results: The values of I‐CVI ranged from 0.83 to 1.00. The CFA model revealed that the study supported the two‐factor model. The questionnaire had good internal consistency with a Cronbach's alpha coefficient of 0.946. The item‐total correlation values ranged from 0.707 to 0.866. Test–retest reliability showed that the intraclass correlation coefficient was 0.926 (95% CI, 0.830–0.968). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: To examine specific correlates that may affect retention outcomes of neural stem cell therapy trials in families screened for cerebral palsy. Design: A prospective correlational study. Methods: Primary caregivers completed surveys of psychological resilience, care burden and family caregiver tasks. The overall data and differences between groups were analysed and compared. Results: Resilience was negatively correlated with the care ability and closely related to the monthly household income and educational level of the caregivers. Factors affecting the final retention rate included the type of disease, number of combined disorders, monthly household income, primary caregivers' education level and resilience. Conclusion: Economic level, literacy and psychological status may affect trial retention. These findings can provide tips for preparing for subsequent screening, identification and intervention in stem cell clinical trials. Aim: To examine the status quo and influencing factors of sleep quality and work engagement of nurses participating in COVID‐19 during the post‐epidemic era and to study the relationship between them. Design: We conducted a cross‐sectional survey and correlational and predictive logic to determine the association between sleep quality and work engagement among nurses in Shanghai during the post‐epidemic era. Methods: This design involved 1060 frontline nurses in Shanghai. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index questionnaire and the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale‐9 scales were used for data collection. Results: This study found that the sleep quality of frontline nurses was impaired and the nurses with poor sleep accounted for 48.20% during the post‐epidemic era. The work engagement of frontline nurses was at the medium level. Factors affecting nurses' sleep quality were the number of nurse night shifts, family support and nurse health. The factors affecting the nurse work engagement were monthly income, profession title, family support and self‐health status. Aim: To explore the relationship between the quality of discharge teaching, readiness for hospital discharge and postdischarge health outcomes in hysterectomy patients. Design: Cross‐sectional online survey. Methods: A cross‐sectional survey design was used to investigate 331 hysterectomy patients in a hospital in Chengdu. The results were analysed using Spearman's correlation and structural equation model. Results: Spearman's correlation analysis revealed moderate‐to‐strong correlations among the quality of discharge teaching, readiness for hospital discharge and postdischarge health outcomes. The total and direct effects of the quality of discharge teaching on patients' readiness for hospital discharge were both 0.70 and readiness for hospital discharge on patients' postdischarge health outcomes were both 0.49. The total, direct and indirect effects of the quality of discharge teaching on patients' postdischarge health outcomes were 0.58, 0.24 and 0.34, respectively. Aim: To explore the relationship between university nursing students' academic procrastination, mindfulness, and future time perspective. Design: A cross‐sectional study. Methods: A total of 343 university nursing students recruited from eight provinces in China have reported procrastination characteristics through fulfilling an online website link. The main instruments involved Mindfulness Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS), Zimbardo Time Perspective Scale, and Procrastination Assessment Scale (PASS). Results: Participants who self‐assessed higher frequency and degree of academic procrastination tended to possess lower future time consciousness, and lower mindfulness. Mindfulness served as a mediation effect between future time perspective and academic procrastination. The study indicates that weakening an individual's procrastination can be alleviated through future time awareness and mindfulness. Concentrating on influencing factors, strengthening nursing student's future time perspective, and practicing mindfulness training could assist educators to decrease students' procrastination intentions and behaviours. Aim: To investigate undergraduate nursing students' general study engagement using intra‐individual assessment and to evaluate the impact of core self‐evaluation and career calling on study engagement. Design: A descriptive and cross‐sectional design. Methods: Data were collected using a self‐administered questionnaire survey. Four hundred and twenty nursing students from first‐ to fourth (final)‐academic year in Guangzhou Medical University were invited to participate in the spring of 2021. The Cronbach's alpha, one‐way analysis of variance, Bonferroni post hoc analysis, Pearson correlation analysis and multiple stepwise regression analysis were used to analyse the data. Results: The first‐ and fourth‐year undergraduates showed significantly higher levels of study engagement (first‐year undergraduates, 3.52 ± 0.59; fourth‐year undergraduates, 3.54 ± 0.64), core self‐evaluation (first‐year undergraduates, 3.04 ± 0.48; fourth‐year undergraduates, 3.11 ± 0.45) and career calling (first‐year undergraduates, 3.65 ± 0.47; fourth‐year undergraduates, 3.69 ± 0.50) than those of second‐year undergraduates (study engagement, 3.32 ± 0.61; core self‐evaluation, 2.93 ± 0.52; career calling, 3.41 ± 0.50) and third‐year undergraduates (study engagement, 3.16 ± 0.61; core self‐evaluation, 2.88 ± 0.50; career calling, 3.34 ± 0.38). The Pearson correlation analysis among nursing students revealed a significant positive correlation between core self‐evaluation, career calling and study engagement (p < 0.01). Aim: The aims of the study were to analyse the current situation of health literacy (HL), self‐management and health‐related quality of life (HRQOL) in patients with diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN), to explore the correlation between the three and to verify the mediating role of self‐management in HL and HRQOL. Design: A cross‐sectional survey. Methods: The convenience sampling method was used to select 401 DPN patients attending the First Hospital of Jinzhou Medical University in Liaoning Province, China, from December 2020 to December 2021 as the study population. The research instrument included socio‐demographic characteristics questionnaire, Health Literacy Management Scale (HeLMS), Summary of Diabetes Self‐Care Activities (SDSCA) and Short‐Form 12‐item Health Survey (SF‐12). SPSS 25.0 was applied to the data for descriptive analysis, Pearson correlation analysis and stratified multiple regression analysis. Mediating effects were tested using SPSS PROCESS macro 4.0 software. Results: HL and self‐management of DPN patients correlated positively with HRQOL. The mediation role of self‐management was significant in the relationship between HL and physical and mental HRQOL (physical component summary: β = 0.26, P < 0.01; mental component summary: β = 0.18, P < 0.01), with mediating effects accounting for 35.62% and 34.62% of the total effect. Conclusions: There was a positive correlation between HL, self‐management and HRQOL in patients with DPN. Self‐management plays a partially mediating role in the relationship between HL and HRQOL in DPN patients. Aim: To evaluate the prevalence and influencing factors of anxiety and depression symptoms in surgical nurses during the COVID‐19 epidemic in Anhui, China. Methods: A cross‐sectional, multic'entre quantitative study was conducted among surgical nurses in Anhui province. SAS, SDS and SSRS scales were used for the investigation. Data were collected between 3 March 2020 to 19 March 2020. Results: A total of 3,492 surgical nurses completed the survey. The average level of anxiety and depression of surgical nurses were higher than that of the Chinese norm. Levels of social support for surgical nurses were significantly negatively associated with the degree of anxiety and depression. Fertility status, participation in care for COVID‐19 patients, likelihood of being infected with COVID‐19 and social support were significantly influencing surgical nurses' anxiety degree. Similarly, these characteristics were significantly associated with the odds of depression symptoms in surgical nurses. Aim: To investigate the influencing factors in professional identity of undergraduate nursing students after the outbreak of COVID‐19. Design: Cross‐sectional study. Methods: The study covered 2,999 nursing students in six undergraduate nursing schools. Several self‐report questionnaires were used to collect the general information, psychological stress, coping styles and professional identity of the undergraduate nursing students. Results: The overall average score of the professional identity of nursing students (3.67 ± 0.51) has increased significantly after the outbreak of COVID‐19. The professional identity of the undergraduate nursing students was negatively correlated with psychological stress (r = −0.23, p <.001), expectation (r = −0.12, p <.001) and avoidance (r = −0.16, p <.001), but was positively correlated with solving problems (r = 0.18, p <.001) and seeking support (r = 0.12, p <.001). Academic performance, positions, grades, reasons for choosing a nursing profession, parents or relatives engaged in nursing work and the risk degree of residence were the factors influencing the professional identity score of undergraduate nursing students' (p <.001). Aim: The American Academy of Pediatrics and the European Centre for Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine guideline define fever as a temperature >38.0°C for all ages and recommend use of rectal thermometers in children <3 years. Based on new literature, this definition of fever using a fixed threshold of 38.0°C needs to be re‐examined. Design: A multi‐site diagnostic accuracy study was conducted to compare an "age‐based" threshold model with a "fixed" threshold over 38.0°C on a total of 894 patients of which 373 were ill. Methods: The "age‐based" and "fixed" threshold fever determinations were then compared to a clinical categorization ("well" or "ill") conducted by a clinician through a comprehensive examination. Results: The sensitivity and accuracy for the age‐based thresholds were found to be superior to the fixed thresholds in all ages and current ear thermometers were found equivalent to rectal thermometers in infants <6 months. Objectives: To explore the correlations among social isolation and symptoms of anxiety and depression among patients with breast cancer in China and to further verify the mediating role of social support in social isolation and symptoms of depression or anxiety. Design: A cross‐sectional survey. Settings: The cluster sampling method was conducted for 456 female inpatients diagnosed with breast cancer at the Tumor Hospital Affiliated of Harbin Medical University from April 2019–September 2019. Methods: Pearson correlation analysis was used for identifying correlations among all the variables. Mediation effect analysis was used to examine the role of social support in social isolation and symptoms of depression or anxiety. Results: The results showed a prevalence of 73.26% and 70.44% for anxiety and depression symptoms in patients with breast cancer, respectively. Anxiety was significantly negatively correlated with social support (r = −.334, p <.01) and significantly positively correlated with social isolation (r =.369, p <.01). Similarly, depression was significantly negatively correlated with social support (r = −.289, p <.01) and significantly positively correlated with social isolation (r =.466, p <.01). Social support played a mediating role in social isolation and f symptoms of anxiety or depression among these patients. Conclusions: Social isolation was positively correlated with symptoms of anxiety and depression in patients with breast cancer, respectively. Social support for patients with breast cancer has a mediating effect on the patients' social isolation and symptoms of anxiety and depression. Therefore, the support of family, friends, hospitals, and organizations plays a positive role in reducing social isolation as well as symptoms of depression and anxiety in these patients. Aim: The study aimed to explore the association between diabetes‐related distress as a dependent variable and fear of hypoglycaemia as a independent variable in Chinese individuals with type 2 diabetes, which can provide a basis for the development of effective nursing interventions. Design: A cross‐sectional descriptive study. Methods: Pre‐piloted scales were used to determine whether they experienced fear of hypoglycaemia and whether this impacted upon their management of the disease. From June–October 2019, participants were asked to complete the "hypoglycaemia fear survey" and "diabetes distress scales" to assess levels of fear and distress. Stepwise multivariate regression analysis was applied to reveal relationship between distress as a dependent variable and fear as a independent variable. Covariates included demographic, clinical or lifestyle factors. Results: A total of 258 participants were recruited for the survey, and they were characterized by little or no distress (39.53%), moderate distress (45.35%) and high distress (15.12%). The prevalence of moderate to severe distress in patients was 60.47%. Increased diabetes‐related distress was strongly correlated with increased fear of hypoglycaemia and closely associated with the scores of the worry and behaviour subscales. These results indicated that 62.3% of diabetes‐related distress may be explained by fear of hypoglycaemia. Aim: To investigate the effect of social support on psychological distress among Chinese lung cancer patients and clarify the mediating role of self‐esteem. Design: A cross‐sectional descriptive correlational survey of 441 Chinese lung cancer patients was designed. Methods: Self‐esteem was supposed to play a mediating role in the association between social support and psychological distress. We collected demographic information, the Distress Thermometer, Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support and Rosenberg Self‐Esteem Scale. Results: Our revised model demonstrated an acceptable fit to the data (χ2 = 37.489, comparative fit index (CFI) = 0.965, Tucker‐Lewis index (TLI) = 0.926, root mean square error of approximation [RMSEA] = 0.099). Social support had a direct effect on self‐esteem and psychological distress, and self‐esteem had also a direct effect on psychological distress. Meanwhile, self‐esteem also partially mediated the relationship between social support and psychological distress among Chinese lung cancer patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
