The article discusses that the American antimissile system built in South Korea, called the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD), can erode its nuclear deterrent which worries China. It mentions Mao Zedong dismissed the atomic bomb as a “paper tiger & China built a nuclear arsenal of its own; China conducted first nuclear test in 1964, & has developed a stable of nuclear missiles.
