Dubrow's, a cafeteria chain in Brooklyn, was known as the "Cafeteria of Refinement" despite being located under the BMT subway. The chain, which operated from 1929 to 1985, had a notable location at Kings Highway and East 16th Street. The restaurant featured Italian-inspired murals, a tile water fountain, and served food with a slight Jewish influence such as coffee cake, blintzes, and chopped liver. Dubrow's was open 24 hours and was particularly busy on weekends after services at Temple Ahavath Sholom, making it a popular spot for mingling and courting voters. In 1960, John F. Kennedy visited Dubrow's during his campaign and ordered a steak and a Heineken, ultimately winning Brooklyn by a large margin. Photographer Marcia Bricker Halperin documented the patrons of the Kings Highway Dubrow's from 1975 to 1978. [Extracted from the article]
