Abstract

The article discusses a study by Willi Auwärter and colleagues at the Technical University in Munich, Germany on the creation of a four-level molecular conductance switch using porphyrin. Noted is the design challenge presented by the interfacing of molecular components with the macroscopic world. It is said that molecular switches should be protected from changes of the atomic structure of the molecule because it can alter the electronic properties of the whole molecule.
