The manipulation of solid states using intense infrared or terahertz light fields is a pivotal area in contemporary ultrafast photonics research. While conventional circular polarization has been well explored, the potential of counterrotating bicircular light remains widely underexplored, despite growing interest in theory. In the mid-infrared or multi-terahertz region, experimental challenges lie in difficulties in stabilizing the relative phase between two-color lights and the lack of available polarization elements. Here, we successfully generated phase-stable counterrotating bicircular light pulses in the 14-39 THz frequency range circumventing the above problems. Employing spectral broadening, polarization pulse shaping with a spatial light modulator, and intra-pulse difference frequency generation leveraging a distinctive angular-momentum selection rule within the nonlinear crystal, we achieved direct conversion from near-infrared pulses into the designed counterrotating bicircular multi-terahertz pulses. Use of the spatial light modulator enables programmable control over the shape, orientation, rotational symmetry, and helicity of the bicircular light field trajectory. This advancement provides a novel pathway for the programmable manipulation of light fields, and marks a significant step toward understanding and harnessing the impact of tailored light fields on matter, particularly in the context of topological semimetals., (© 2024. Antiferromagnetic spin motion at terahertz (THz) frequencies attracts growing interests for fast spintronics, however, their smaller responses to external field inhibit device application. Recently the noncollinear antiferromagnet Mn 3 Sn, a Weyl semimetal candidate, was reported to show large anomalous Hall effect (AHE) at room temperature comparable to ferromagnets. Dynamical aspect of such large responses is an important issue to be clarified for future THz data processing. Here the THz anomalous Hall conductivity in Mn 3 Sn thin films is investigated by polarization-resolved spectroscopy. Large anomalous Hall conductivity [Formula: see text] at THz frequencies is clearly observed as polarization rotation. A peculiar temperature dependence corresponding to the breaking/recovery of symmetry in the spin texture is also discussed. Observation of the THz AHE at room temperature demonstrates the ultrafast readout for the antiferromagnetic spintronics using Mn 3 Sn, and will also open new avenue for studying nonequilibrium dynamics in Weyl antiferromagnets.

Protein fibrils are expected to have applications as functional nanomaterials because of their sophisticated structures; however, nanoscale ordering of the functional units of protein fibrils remains challenging. Here we design a series of self-polymerizing protein monomers, referred to as protein shackles, derived from modified recombinant subunits of pili from Streptococcus pyogenes. The monomers polymerize into nanochains through spontaneous irreversible covalent bond formation. We design the protein shackles so that their reactions can be controlled by altering redox conditions, which affect disulphide bond formation between engineered cysteine residues. The interaction between the monomers improves their polymerization reactivity and determines morphologies of the polymers. In addition, green fluorescent protein-tagged protein shackles can polymerize, indicating proteins can be stably attached to the nanochains with its functionality preserved. Furthermore we demonstrate that a molecular-recognizable nanochain binds to its partner with an enhanced binding ability in solution. These characteristics are expected to be applied for novel protein nanomaterials.
