The Gamma-aminobutyric acid receptor antagonist picrotoxin prevents synchronization, making it impossible for odour discrimination to take place through fine sensory functionality. The article focuses on a study by S. L. Turner and colleagues which tested a new inhibitory formulation containing 2,3-butanedione that causes cpA neuron in mosquitoes' maxillary palp making it hard for the insect to track carbon dioxide exhaled by its human victims. It says that the researchers elicit prolonged firing by formulating a strong blend of solvent plus odorants that worked together as low doses. It tells that these chemicals were effective to prevent malaria-carrying mosquitoes.
