The article discusses the importance of the metabolizable energy (ME) and digestible energy (DE) prediction equations in formulating swine diets. Topics discussed include importance of reduced-oil (RO)- distillers dried grains with soluble (DDGS) sources in cost-effective feeding programs in pork production; importance of neutral detergent fiber in the DE and ME prediction equations; effect of gut morphology, immunity and digest transit time on efficiency of feed utilization and carcass yield.
