In this article the author examines aspects of the 2010 BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. The author notes that while the damage done by the spill explodes the notion that the oil industry and the environment can coexist, the environmental harm caused by the day-to-day operations of the petroleum interests are significant. The central focus of the article is on the need for the state of Louisiana and for the United States government to make sure that the oil industry pays for the economic and environmental damage done by the spill.

PROGRESSIVISM (United States politics) , *UNITED States elections , *SARKOZY Administration ,UNITED States politics & government, 2009-2017 - Abstract
In this article the author argues that U.S. progressives must promote a common political platform prior to the midterm elections to be held during the autumn of 2010. He suggests that a common narrative is important to political success, and should focus on values and ideals rather than policy. He notes that the U.S. Republican Party has long emphasized a unified narrative, while the U.S. Democratic Party has remained disjointed. He points to political conditions in France as a positive example of the results of progressivism.

VOTERS ,MASSACHUSETTS state politics & government ,UNITED States politics & government, 2009-2017 - Abstract
The article discusses the election of Republican Scott Brown as U.S. Senator from Massachusetts in 2010, its consequences, and the process by which this seemingly unlikely event occurred. The election tipped the balance in the Senate so that Republicans can stop any bill they choose if they stay united. It notes that the electorate was concerned, angry and sometimes confused, and led by an organization that peddled fantasy. It recommends President Obama engage passionately on a level of reality.
