This article presents a critical analysis of the work of painter Kazimir Malevich. Only in the most external and superficial respect does the 1915 black square by Malevich painted on a white ground belong to the history of monochrome painting. One of the immense contributions of Black Square to the concept of visual art lies in the fact that it freed the concept of painting from that of picturing, and thus opened up a new era in art history. The concept behind what Malevich called Suprematism is that one cannot carry things beyond Black Square.
