This section presents articles related to world politics. The proceedings of the association Littéraire et Artistique Internationale are discussed. The association met in Dresden, Germany, from September 21-28, 1985. This gathering of representative men was utilized to substitute on the social programme, hitherto thickly studded with public dinners, a literary and artistic form of entertainment, with a marked accession of dignity. It is a matter of history that the Association organized the movement which resulted in the Borne convention of 1886 creating the International Copyright Union.

These two books -- the first presents a vivid record of events by the "New York Times," correspondent in Central Europe and the second a concise study and brilliant analysis of the forces behind these events by the research director of the Foreign Policy Association make one feel hopeful because their clarity and spirit stand in such happy contrast to the defeatism of the day.

The article presents information on the Goethe society in Weimar. In April, 1885, died the last of the Goethes. The archives passed unconditionally into the hands of the Grand Duchess of Sate-Weimar. Her Royal Highness, conscious of the wide responsibility which the legacy entailed, summoned about her the leading representatives of the "Goethe Wissenschaft," and under her protectorate the society was founded. Fifteen years ago the expression "Goethe Wissenschaft" would have been found, to say the least, novel. These engaged in the special study of Goethe were moved by an intense enthusiasm, but had, for the most part, no connection with the University.

The article presents information on developments from across the world. U.S. Senator C. Wayland Brooks of Illinois spoke as fellow sufferer when he addressed a recent Chicago mass-meeting to protest Nazi atrocities against Jews. He proclaimed himself a defender of minorities because he was himself a member of minority. The Never Again Association, in England has worked out a post-war program for Germany. Among other things, Germany would be broken up into its component parts and England would expel all Axis nationals and all refugees with every few exceptions.
