Combined transport provides great possibilities for material reloading in terminals or warehouses. However, this cannot be done without a tailored warehouse, geographically suitable for all stakeholders, technically adequate for the handled material, providing the required service while keeping the transport costs at minimum. Allocation design and warehouse erection, connecting the warehouse with the reloading terminal - the seaport, provides an ever-increasing number of options and solutions in the form of integrated freight trains and regular container trains linking seaports with reloading terminals, which significantly saves transport costs and allows for more route and transport type combinations. The paper presents how a suitable warehouse is selected and how its allocation is decided on to cater to transport of the material through the reloading terminal and the seaport. Warehouse allocation was proposed using the Cooper iteration method. The given warehouse location will ensure the optimal cost of shipping and deliveries to individual customers. AGV systems, gradually making their way into individual logistics processes, represent an important tool for handling different types of cargo. Since their initial start in the domain of small handling units, their use has been incrementally finding its application in the area of large handling units, too, such as different types of containers. That is why an ever increasing number of them can be encountered at the range of land and sea reloading sites. Thus, there are many opportunities for them to be deployed in different types of logistics processes at maritime reloading sites. For the AGV system and the logistics processes to function correctly at each maritime reloading site, they need to be thoroughly fine-tuned. One of the methods that can be used effectively to that end is the method of computer simulation. The paper will describe how to create a simple simulation model using Tecnomatix Plant Simulation. This paper focuses on the methods of obtaining Verified Gross Mass of packed containers or other Intermodal Loading Units in Slovakia taking into consideration requirements of section 4 to 6, Regulation 2, Part A, chapter VI SOLAS and article 10f of the EU directive 2015/719/EU. The methods which used in Slovakia are described where the comparative analysis of selected weighing methods is performed on selected examples from loading organisations. The paper also recommends the use of certain weighing methods for the selected loading organisations as appropriate procedures to obtain Verified Gross Mass of packed containers or other Intermodal Loading Units. The representation of the shipping alliances with their arrival in the Adriatic ports will be analysed in the paper. The services, transit schedule arrivals and rotation of alliances which sail in the Adriatic ports will be shown. World trade has changes in the last decade and the container traffic flows are oriented in the several parts of European continent. European container port system is not a homogenous set of ports. It is established with a several big ports (Rotterdam, Hamburg, Antwerpen...) and a large number of medium and small sized ports. In this port category are also the North Adriatic ports (NA) and in this paper we analysed the container flows and the throughput made in this ports. Although in the past decades a number of studies and activities to improve business of cargo ports were carried out, still the cargo seaports in the Republic of Croatia are not competitive in relation to the cargo seaports in the Adriatic and Mediterranean seas, thereby the objective of this thesis was to use theoretical and practical knowledge to establish activities which will lead to improvement in the business activities of cargo seaports in Croatia. At the beginning of this thesis work for a better understanding of the issues, important features of maritime transport and seaports are presented, such as: the concept of maritime transport and ports, types of maritime transport and ports and the function of maritime ports. After thoroughly elaborated features of maritime transport and seaports special attention was paid to the cargo seaports, setting out the legal guidelines of management of seaports, the movement of freight traffic in seaports and assessment of management of cargo seaports in Croatia. Given the fact that container traffic is one of the most promising forms of transport, an analyze has been made in container traffic and an assessment of container traffic management in the seaports of Croatia is presented. Based on the analysis and evaluation of the degree of business efficiency of cargo ports and container traffic in Croatia a few suggestions for improvement of cargo ports are laid out by the Ministry, port associations, port authorities and major actors in the business of cargo seaports. In the end, it was concluded that to improve freight operations of Croatian ports it is necessary to set a consistent transport and port policies that will be consistent with standards and regulations of the European Union.
