A new genus, Neoaleurodiscus, is proposed as a segregate from Aleurodiscus (Basidiomycota), and the new species, Neoaleurodiscus fujii, is described. It was collected at the timberline of Mount Fuji, Japan. Specimens were found on trunks of Rhododendron sp. Morphological study and phylogenetic analysis based on sequence data derived from LSU nrDNA indicated that Neoaleurodiscus is separate from other segregate genera from Aleurodiscus s.l. Neoaleurodiscus is characterized by having a disciform basidiocarp; microscopically it has moniliform gloeocystidia, absence of acanthophyses, nodose-septate hyphae, hyphidia, and basidiospores, which are amyloid, smooth and +/- thick-walled. Among genera studied Acanthobasidium and Aleurodiscus (s.s.) are most closely related to Neoaleurodiscus, but these genera have warted or spiny basidiospores. Two new combinations, Acanthobasidium penicillatum and Neoaleurodiscus monilifer, are proposed.

The limits and possible subdivision of Aleurodiscus s.I. into Acanthobasidium, Acanthofun- gus, Acanthophysellum, Aleurobotrys, Aleurocystidiel- lum, Aleurodiscus s.s., and Gloeosoma were evaluated. Molecular characters were obtained from an approx- imately 980 base pair fragment at the 5' end of the nuclear large subunit ribosomal DNA, in 33 strains representing 23 species of Aleurodiscus s.l., Stereum, Xylobolus, and Megalocystidium leucoxanthum. Pub- lished sequences of 20 additional species of the rus- suloid clade were also included. Phylogenetic analy- ses suggest that Aleurodiscus s.l., Megalocystidium leu- coxanthum, Stereum and Xylobolus form a monophy- letic group, which may be classified as the family Stereaceae. Corticium roseum, which is the type spe- cies of the Corticiaceae, is not in this group, thus Stereaceae is not synonymous with Corticiaceae. Aleu- rocystidiellum is supported as a monophyletic group. Acanthobasidium, which is characterized by pleuro- basidia, is also monophyletic. Aleurodiscus s.s. is sup- ported as monophyletic, but Gloeosoma is not, and the two are not congeneric. The importance of am- yloid acanthophyses for recognizing Aleurobotrys is suspect, and its generic status should be further stud- ied. Most of the smooth-spored species form a mono

Dendrodontia taiwaniana, Epithele cylindricosterigmata and E. lutea are described and illustrated as new species. Dendrodontia taiwaniana is similar to D. bicolor in having a similar hymenial surface and hyphal system, but the former has smaller basidia and basidiospores and lacks dendrohyphidia. Epithele cylindricosterigmata resembles E. sulphurea in sharing similar basidiospores, but the former has a thinner, membranous basidiocarp with a white hymenial surface, the hyphal pegs are composed of tortuous and convolute hyphae, and its sterigmata are uniformly cylindrical. Epithele lutea is close to E. typhae in the color of the hymenial surface and has similar basidiospores, but the former bears sparsely scattered, longer hyphal pegs that have a ceraceous core; microscopically its hyphal pegs are composed of slightly thick-walled, tortuous hyphae, but a sheath of dendritic hyphae as in E. typhae is lacking.

Hyphodontia septocystidiata and Hyphodontia sinensis are reported as new to science. Hyphodontia septocystidiata has grandinioid to odontioid hymenophore, encrusted cystidia, septocystidia and capitate cystidia and broadly ellipsoid to subglobose thick-walled basidiospores. Hyphodontia sinensis has odontioid hymenophore, leptocystidia and capitate cystidioles and broadly ellipsoid, thin- to slightly thick-walled basidiospores. Descriptions and line drawings are provided for these two new species.

Amylofungus and Dextrinocystidium are pro? posed as new genera of corticioid basidiomycetes. These genera share the characters of clampless hy? phae, gloeocystidia and amyloid basidiospores. Amy? lofungus is characterized by the presence of amyloid hyphae, gloeocystidia and basidia, as well as by utri- form basidia and smooth basidiospores. Dextrinocys? tidium is characterized by having dextrinoid and cy- anophilic lamprocystidia, utriform basidia, verrucose basidiospores, and by skeletal hyphae. Amylofungus cor- rosus and D. sacratum, respectively type species of these two genera, are proposed as new combinations. A key is provided to the genera of resupinate basidiomycetes with gloeocystidia and amyloid basidiospores.
