Polygonatum cyrtonema polysaccharides have a variety of pharmacological effects. The commonly used extraction methods include traditional hot water extraction, alkaline extraction, enzymatic hydrolysis method, ultrasonic-assisted extraction, etc., but there are problems such as low yield, high temperature, high cost, strict extraction conditions, and insufficient environmental protection. In this study, crude polysaccharide extraction from the Polygonatum cyrtonema Hua was performed using the freeze–thaw method. Response surface methodology (RSM), based on a three-level, three-variable Box–Behnken design (BBD), was employed to obtain the best possible combination of water-to-raw material ratio (A: 30–50), freezing time (B: 2–10 h), and thawing temperature (C: 40–60 °C) for maximum polysaccharide extraction. Using the multiple regression analysis and analysis of variance (ANOVA), the experimental data were fitted to a second-order polynomial equation and were used to generate the mathematical model of optimization experiments. The optimum extraction conditions were as follows: a water-to-raw material ratio of 36.95:1, a freezing time of 4.8 h, and a thawing temperature of 55.99 °C. Under the optimal extraction conditions, the extraction rate of Polygonatum cyrtonema Hua polysaccharide (PCP) was 65.76 ± 0.32%, which is well in close agreement with the value predicted by the model, 65.92%. In addition, PCP has significant antioxidant activity. This result shows that the freeze–thaw method can improve the extraction efficiency, maintain the structural integrity of polysaccharides, simplify the extraction process, promote the dispersion of polysaccharides, and is suitable for large-scale industrial production.

According to ancient Chinese books, bear grease has the effects of strengthening muscles and bones, which is beneficial for weakness, but there is relatively little research on it. Thus, the extraction of it is beneficial for compensating for research in this area. In this study, a uniform experimental design method was used to optimize the extraction process of bear grease by enzymatic hydrolysis extraction, and the extraction rate can reach 81.89% under optimized extraction conditions. Furthermore, the components of bear grease obtained by this study were analyzed by GC-MS, and the results showed that ursolic oil was rich in unsaturated fatty acids (67.51%), which was higher than that of the traditional method (66.92%). The composition of bear grease extracted by the enzymatic method was also better than that extracted by the traditional method. In addition, bear grease obtained in this study had the obvious activity of promoting hair growth. The length, weight, and number of hair follicles in the depilation area of mice in the high-dose group were significantly different from those in the blank group (p < 0.01). This study optimized the extraction process of bear grease and conducted a preliminary analysis of its fatty acid composition, which is expected to provide some reference for the development of the medicinal value of bear grease.

The adsorption behaviors of CO and H2 to FeO onto CaO surfaces have been studied using the density functional theory (DFT) to determine the reactions of FeO by CO and H2. The adsorption mechanisms of FeO clusters on the CaO(100) and CaO(110) surfaces were calculated first. The structure of the Ca(110) surface renders it highly chemically reactive compared with the Ca(100) surface because of low coordination. After gas adsorption, CO bonds to the O atom of FeO, forming CO2 compounds in both configurations through the C atom. H2 favors the O atom of FeO, forming H2O compounds and breaking the Fe-O bond. Comparing the adsorption behavior of two reducing gases to FeO on the Ca surface, the reaction of the CO molecule being adsorbed to generate CO2 compounds is exothermic. The reaction of H2 molecule adsorption to generate H2O compounds is endothermic. This property is essential for the inertial-collision stage of the reduction. However, the dissociation of the CO2 compound from the reaction interface will overcome a high energy barrier and slow down the reduction. The H2O compound dissociates from the surface more easily, which can accelerate the reduction.

Interactions between 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate (IL), an ionic liquid, and Na-montmorillonite (Na-MMT) were studied under different kinetic conditions to investigate the adsorption behavior of IL by Na-MMT. The adsorption of IL by Na-MMT was rapid, with a fast rate, reaching a capacity of 0.43 mmol/g, lower than Na-MMT’s cation exchange capacity (CEC) of 0.90 mmol/g. Meanwhile, the highest adsorption rate occurred at the IL concentration of 1000 mg/L. The exchangeable cation of Na-MMT could not be completely substituted by the cation group of IL regardless of the IL concentration. Stoichiometric desorption experiments confirmed that the cation exchange was the dominating adsorption mechanism for the IL adsorption by Na-MMT. The pH value of the solution between 2 and 11 had a negligible effect on the adsorption amount of IL by Na-MMT. The cation group of IL interacted into the interlayer of Na-MMT successfully, resulting in the change in the wettability of Na-MMT. A bilayer formation of the cationic group should occur in the interlayer of the modified Na-MMT and the configuration of IL was dependent on the adsorption amount of IL. Furthermore, the thermal stability of the modified Na-MMT was also dependent on the adsorption amount of IL.
