This study determined the mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of Chanodichthys mongolicus from China's Qiantang River and analyzed its phylogenetic history in the Subfamily Cultrinae. Next-generation sequencing was used to obtain the mitogenome of C. mongolicus, GenBank Accession Number MZ032228. The mitochondrial genome length of C. mongolicus from China's Qiantang River is 16,622 bp. The genome contains 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNAs, two ribosomal RNAs, and two central noncoding regions (the control region and the origin of light strand replication). Based on BLAST comparisons, the sequence identity of C. mongolicus MZ032228 from China's Qiantang River was 99.84% to that of Ancherythroculter wangi MG783573 from China's Nei River, 99.75% to C. mongolicus AP009060 from Russia's Black River. The phylogenetic analysis is consistent with BLAST comparisons in confirming that A. wangi MG783573 and C. mongolicus MZ032228 show a high genetic similarity. This study also confirms mitochondrial DNA heteroplasmy in C. mongolicus for the first time and documents 35 heterogeneous loci that were detected.

In this study, whole chloroplast genomes of five Salix species (S. argyracea, S. dasyclados, S. eriocephala, S. integra 'Hakuro Nishiki', and S. suchowensis) were sequenced. These chloroplast genomes were 155 ,605, 155, 763, 155, 552, 155, 538, and 155 ,550 bp in length, harboring 131 genes (77 unigenes), 37 tRNA genes, 8 rRNA genes, and 86 mRNA genes, respectively. The genes ycf1, psaI, ycf2-2, rpoC2, rpl22, atpF, and ndhF were under positive selection among the 21 Salix species. psaI, ycf2-2, atpF, and ycf1-2 were under positive selection between the tree willow and shrub willow, and rpoC2, rpl22, and ycf1-2 were positively selected among the shrub genomes. The gene rps7 was most variable among the genomes. Phylogenetic analysis of 21 Salix species and Chosenia arbutifolia provide evidence that the cp genome data partially support the relationship with traditional taxonomic concepts in the Flora of China. This chloroplast genome elucidates Salix taxonomy and provides evidence for evolutionary research.

The mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) complete control region coverage of 111 individuals from Kalash population of Pakistan has been presented for forensic applications and to infer their genetic parameters. We detected in total 14 different haplotypes with only five unique and nine shared by more than one individual. This population has come up with quite lower haplotype diversity (0.8393) and very higher random match probability (0.1682), and ultimately lower power of discrimination (0.832). Additionally, haplogroup distribution reveals the genetic ancestry of Kalash, mainly from West Eurasia (98.8%) and very little from South Asia (0.9%). Neither African lineages nor East Asian genetic segments were detected among these Kalash. This study will contribute to the database development for forensic applications as well as to track the evolutionary highlights of this ethnic group.

The Guizhou odorous frog Odorrana kweichowensis is endemic to Guizhou Province, China. In this study, a comparative analysis of the mitochondrial COI and ND2 gene sequences was performed to examine genetic diversity in 109 individuals from ten localities across the geographic range of the species. Haplotype diversity and nucleotide diversity were 0.576 and 0.00055, respectively. Phylogenetic analyses almost nested all haplotypes into one lineage. AMOVA indicated that total variation was mainly derived from variation within individual populations. Neutral tests indicated that a recent expansion occurred in the total population. Fst estimations indicated that genetic divergence was not correlated with geographic distance. Accordingly, the species probably experienced a recent population expansion, and there no obvious population genetic structure is apparent. The findings provide useful information for the conservation of this species.

Flesh-footed shearwater (Ardenna carneipes) is recognized as vulnerable seabird species in Western Australia and New South Wales, Australia, and its genetic variability and a well-resolved phylogeny is imperative for the species’ conservation. Here, we report the first sequenced mitogenome of the Australian A. carneipes. The mitogenome of A. carneipes was 16,370 bp in total length and encompassed 13 protein-coding genes, two ribosomal RNAs, 22 transfer RNAs, and one non-coding region (D-loop). All of the genes were encoded on the H-strand with the exception of ND6 and eight tRNAs, which is a conserved pattern of the mitogenome for other vertebrates. The mitogenome of A. carneipes was dominated by higher AT (56.5%) than GC (43.5%) content. In the resulting phylogenetic tree using complete mitogenome sequences, flesh-footed shearwater and gray petrel (Procellaria cinerea) grouped together despite the high genetic distance (11.0%) between them, belonging to family Procellariidae. However, the phylogenetic tree was consistent with a previous study using partial nucleotide sequences of the cytochrome b gene. These results highlight that further mitogenome sequences will be required from the closely related species under the genus Ardenna to delineate well-resolved phylogenetic classification at the genus and or species level. The present study provides a reference mitochondrial genome of flesh-footed shearwater for further molecular studies.

In order to analyze the genetic diversity and genetic differentiation of Gymnocypris chilianensis, D-loop region of the mitochondrial DNA was sequenced in 50 individuals of G. chilianensis obtained from 2 geographic locations (Heihe River and Shule River) and 25 individuals of G. przewalskii (Qinghai Lake). Twenty-five homologous sequences of another G. eckloni (Yellow River) downloaded from GenBank were analyzed together. The sequences were analyzed by using the MEGA (version 7.0) and DnaSP (version 6.0) software. The results revealed that 82 haplotypes were detected among 100 individuals. The haplotype diversity (Hd) and nucleotide diversity (Pi) of G. chilianensis of the Shule River were 0.963 ± 0.029 and 0.00414 ± 0.00069, which were lower than those of 3 other populations. The genetic distance of G. chilianensis in both Heihe River and Shule River was 0.0013. The genetic distances between the 2 G. chilianensis populations and the G. eckloni were 0.0148 and 0.0141, respectively. Tibet Gaoshan Yak (Bos grunniens) is a local Yak breed that mainly produces meat in Tibet Autonomous Region, China. In this study, the complete mitochondrial genome of Tibet Gaoshan Yak was sequenced. The total length of the mitochondrial genome is 16,323 bp, and the base composition is 33.71% for A, 13.21% for G, 27.27% for T, and 25.81% for C. The genome includes 13 protein-coding genes (ND1-ND6, ND4L, COX1-COX3, ATP6, ATP8, and CYTB), two rRNA genes (12S rRNA and 16SrRNA), 22 tRNA genes, and a noncoding control region (D-loop). Phylogenetic analysis showed that Tibet Gaoshan Yak has the closest relationship with Polled Yak. The sequence analysis provided in this study will be helpful to the management of Yak breeds, the origin, and evolution of Yak, and the protection and utilization of genetic resources.

The complete mitochondrial DNA sequence of Apogonichthyoides taeniatus (Cuvier, 1828) is determined. The mitochondrial genome is 17,050 in length and has the same composition and gene order like most other vertebrates. The phylogenetic analysis based on 13 concatenated PCGs nucleotide sequences among 20 species showed that this species has high support with the sister branch Jaydia lineata. Our findings provide useful information for phylogenetic and evolutionary research of Kurtiformes species.

In this study, we report the complete mitochondrial genome of Pterygoplichthys pardalis has derived by next-generation sequencing. The complete mitochondrial genome of P. pardalis contains 16,425 bp encompassing 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, two ribosomal RNA genes, and one control region (D-loop). The base composition is A 31.79%, C 26.89%, G 14.63%, and T 26.69%, and its gene arrangement is consistent with mitochondrial genomes derived from other representatives of Loricariidae. A phylogenetic tree of 24 Loricariidae species constructed based on the 13 coding genes shows that P. pardalis is clustered with other Pterygoplichthys genus. It suggests that the molecular classification results confirm its external morphological characteristics. These results have reference value for the further study of phylogenetic relationship, taxonomic classification, and phylogeography of Loricariidae.

We present the complete mitochondrial genome of Toxotes chatareus yielded by the next-generation sequencing data in this study. The complete mitochondrial genome of T. chatareus has 16,543 bp and contained 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, two ribosomal RNA genes, and a single control region (D-loop). The overall base composition was A 28.75%, C 29.80%, G 15.77%, T 25.68% and its gene arrangement was similar with other Carangaria mitochondrial genomes. Additionally, the phylogenetic relationships of 13 Carangaria species based on the complete mitochondrial genome was analyzed using the neighbor-joining method. The result showed T. chatareus was clustered with L. lactarius suggesting the close phylogenetic affinity they owned. Together, the complete mitochondrial genome of T. chatareus would be beneficial for the study of phylogenetic relationship, taxonomic classification and phylogeography of the Carangaria.

The complete mitochondrial genome of the lizard, Teratoscincus przewalskii, which belongs to the family Sphaerodactylidae was determined based on Illumina data in this study. The result showed that the closed double-stranded circular mitogenome was 16,779 bp in total length (GenBank accession number: MW491837) with 44.07% GC. The complete mitochondrial genome consisted of 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, two ribosomal genes, and one noncoding control region. Phylogenetic analysis using mitochondrial genomes suggested that T. przewalskii was most closely related to its congener T. keyserlingii. This work provides valuable molecular information for further research on species identification and molecular evolution.

Here, we report the complete mitogenome information of the terebellid polychaete, Thelepus plagiostoma (Schmarda, 1861). Genome sequencing by Illumina HiSeq platform permitted assembly of a circular mitochondrial genome of 15,628 bp from T. plagiostoma consisting of 67% AT nucleotides, 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 2 ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes, 22 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes, and a non-coding region in the typical annelid gene composition. Gene order of the T. plagiostoma mitochondrion is identical to those of the Terebelliformia mitogenomes. Phylogenetic reconstruction places T. plagiostoma within the monophyletic subclass Sedentaria, a sister to Pista cristata in the suborder Terebelliformia.

Osteomeles subrotunda is a rare and endangered plant species with extremely small populations. In our study, we sequenced the complete chloroplast (CP) genome of O. subrotunda and described its structural organization, and performed comparative genomic analyses with other Rosaceae CP genomes. The plastome of O. subrotunda was 159,902 bp in length with 36.6% GC content and contained a pair of inverted repeats of 26,367 bp which separated a large single-copy region of 87,933 bp and a small single-copy region of 19,235 bp. The CP genome included 130 genes, of which 85 were protein-coding genes, 37 were transfer RNAs, and eight were ribosomal RNAs. Two genes, rps19 and ycf1, which are located at the borders of IRB/SSC and IRB/LSC, were presumed to be pseudogenes. A total of 61 SSRs were detected, of which, 59 loci were mono-nucleotide repeats, and two were di-nucleotide repeats. The phylogenic analysis indicated that the 14 Rosaceae species were divided into three groups, among which O. subrotunda grouped with P. rupicola, E. japonica, P. pashia, C. japonica, S. torminalis, and M. florentina, and it was found to be a sister clade to C. japonica. Our newly sequenced CP genome of O. subrotunda will provide essential data for further studies on population genetics and biodiversity.

Mitochondrial DNA is maternally inherited and is shown to affect nuclear–cytoplasmic interactions in potato. Analyzing the mitogenome helps understand the evolutionary relationships and improve breeding programs in potato. We report complete mitogenome sequences from a panel of 13 potato accessions of various taxa. Each mitogenome has three independent circular molecules, except one of the S. bukasovii sample BUK2, which has a single circular molecule. Each mitogenome code for 37 non-redundant protein-coding genes, three rRNAs, 20 tRNAs, and 19 hypothetical open reading frames. Phylogenetic analysis reveals congruency between plastome and mitogenome phylogeny.

The family Trichoceridae is a small group in Nematocera (Diptera) with 157 known species in the world. In this study, we report a complete mitochondrial genome sequence of a Trichoceridae species, which is a circular molecule of 16,094 bp with 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNA genes (tRNAs), two ribosomal RNA genes (rRNAs), and a 1063 bp long non-coding region (control region). Eight gene overlaps ranging from 1 to 8 bp in length and 16 small non-coding intergenic spacers ranging from 1 to 77 bp in length are found in the mitochondrial genome. The canonical start codons (ATN) for invertebrate mitochondrial genomes are found in 11 PCGs, except for COI which uses TTG and ND5 uses GTG. Stop codons of 12 PCGs are invariably complete TAA and TAG, while COII ends with a single thymine stop codon. Twenty-two tRNAs ranges from 64 bp to 72 bp, and the rRNAs are determined to be 1326 bp in length for lrRNA and 788 bp in length for srRNA. Phylogenetic analysis reveals that the family Trichoceridae is a sister-group to the remaining Tipulomorpha, and the relationship between the other families is Pediciidae + (Limoniidae + (Cylindrotomidae + Tipulidae)).

The complete mitogenome sequence of the brown-headed gull, Chroicocephalus brunnicephalus was determined in this study. The 16,771 bp genome consists of 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), two ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes, and 22 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes, and a control region (CR). The decoded mitogenome was AT-rich (54.77%) with nine overlapping and 17 intergenic spacer regions. Most of the PCGs were started by a typical ATG initiation codon except for cox1 and nad3. Further, the usual termination codons (AGG, TAG, TAA, and AGA) were used by 11 PCGs except for cox3 and nad4. The concatenated PCGs based Bayesian phylogeny clearly discriminates all the Laridae species and reflects the sister relationship of C. brunnicephalus with C. ridibundus. The present mitogenome-based phylogeny was congruent with the earlier hypothesis and confirmed the evolutionary position of the brown-headed gull as masked species. The generated mitogenome of C. brunnicephalus is almost identical to the previously generated mitogenome from China except for two base pairs in CR. To visualize the population structure of this migratory species, we propose more sampling from different geographical locations and the generation of additional molecular data to clarify the reality.

The genus Tanyptera Latreille, 1804 is recorded from Shandong Province, China for the first time with T. (T.) hebeiensis Yang et Yang, 1988 found in Mount Kunyu, Shandong. In this study, we report the complete mitochondrial genome sequence of T. (T.) hebeiensis, representing the first mitochondrial genome of the subfamily Ctenophorinae (Diptera: Tipulidae), which is a circular molecule of 15,888 bp with an AT content of 77.6%. The mitochondrial genome contains 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNA genes (tRNAs), two ribosomal RNA genes (rRNAs), and a non-coding region. Gene overlaps are found at nine gene junctions, ranging from 1 to 8 bp in length. The canonical mitochondrial start codons for invertebrate mitochondrial genomes are found in 12 PCGs, except for COI which uses the uncanonical start codons TCG. Stop codons of 10 PCGs are invariably complete TAA and TAG, while COII, ND4, and ND5 end with a single thymine stop codon. Phylogenetic analysis reveals that the Pediciidae is a sister group to the remaining Tipuloidea, the Cylindrotomidae has a sister-group relationship with the Tipulidae, and the Limoniidae is not a monophyletic clade.

The Lonchodinae (Phasmatodea: Phasmatidae) is rich in insect species with more than 330 species of 40 genera. The phylogenetic relationships within Lonchodinae have been under debate. We successfully sequenced the complete mitogenome of Eurycantha calcarata Lucas, 1869 (Phasmatodea: Lonchodinae) with a length of 16,280 bp, which had the same genes and gene arrangements as those of various published papers on stick insects. The whole mitogenome and control region of E. calcarata had a high AT content of 78.2 and 85.9%, respectively. All PCGs used ATN as the start codon, and most PCGs used TAA/TAG as the stop codons excluding COX2 (T), COX3 (TA), and ND5 (TA). To discuss the phylogeny of Lonchodinae, we reconstructed the phylogenetic relationships of 27 species of Phasmatodea including E. calcarata and two species of Embioptera used as outgroups. In BI and ML trees, the monophyly of Lonchodinae and Necrosciinae was well supported, whereas the monophyly of Clitumninae was not recovered. These results indicated that Lonchodinae was a sister clade to Phylliinae and E. calcarata was a sister clade to Phraortes genus.

The peacock butterfly Aglais io (Linnaeus, 1758) (Nymphalidae: Nymphalinae: Nymphalini) is a colorful and charismatic flagship butterfly species whose range spans from the British Isles and Europe through temperate Asia and the Far East. In Europe, it has been used as a model species for studying the effects of GMO maize pollen on caterpillar growth and survivorship. The Japanese subspecies, Aglais io geisha (Stichel 1907), is not as well studied as its European counterpart. Genome skimming by Illumina sequencing allowed the assembly of a complete circular mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of 15,252 bp from A. io geisha consisting of 80.6% AT nucleotides, 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNAs, two rRNAs, and a control region in the gene order typical of butterfly species. Aglais io geisha COX1 gene features an atypical start codon (CGA) while COX1, COX2, CYTB, ND1, ND3, ND4, and ND5 display incomplete stop codons finished by the addition of 3' A residues to the mRNA. Bayesian phylogenetic reconstruction places A. io geisha within a clade with European A. io mitogenomes in the tribe Nymphalini, which is consistent with previous phylogenetic hypotheses.

The classification of Badidae family based on morphology has been revised several times, but data on complete mitogenome are scarce, the complete mitochondrial genome of the Badidae fish Dario dario was characterized for the first time in the present study. The whole mitogenome was 16,830 bp in size and consisted of 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNAs, two rRNAs genes, a control region and origin of light-strand replication. The proportion of coding sequences with a total length of 11,431 bp was 67.92%, which encoded 3800 amino acids. The genome composition was highly A + T biased (58.12%), and exhibited a negative AT-skew (���0.0045) and GC-skew (���0.2347). All protein-coding genes started with ATG except for GTG in CO1, while stopped with the standard TAN codons or a single T. The control region (D-loop) ranging from 15,658 bp to 16,830 bp was 1173 bp in size. Phylogenetic analysis showed that D. dario was most closely related to Badis badis. The complete mitochondrial genome sequence provided new insight into taxonomic classification, and a more complex picture of species diversity within the Anabantiformes.

Arion ater are a group of mollusks, almost all of which live in a dark and humid environment during their life cycle. In this study, the complete mitogenome of Arion ater was sequenced using next generation sequencing, analyzed and compared with other Stylommatophorans. The total length of the mitochondrial genome is 14,314 bp and consists of 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, 2 rRNA genes, and 1 control region. The genome has a typical mitochondrial gene sequence of Arion. Phylogenetic analysis of the mitochondrial genomes of 27 species of Stylommatophora showed that the Arion ater, Arion rufus and Arion vulgaris forms a monophyletic group with other species.

Artocarpus gomezianus is a medicinal species native to Asia. To infer its phylogenetic relationship to the other Moraceae, the complete chloroplast genome of A. gomezianus was sequenced. The whole chloroplast genome is 160,743 bp in length, consisting of a pair of inverted repeat (IR) regions of 25,691 bp, one large single-copy (LSC) region of 89,241 bp, and one small singlecopy (SSC) region of 20,120 bp. The overall GC content of the complete chloroplast genome is 35.81%. Maximum likelihood analysis using 11 complete plastomes of the Moraceae and Cannabis sativa (Cannabaceae) designated as the outgroup, resolved A. gomezianus in a clade with A. petelotii and A. hypargyreus. These phylogenetic results are not consistent with previous findings based on nuclear loci in which A. gomezianus was grouped as a sister to a clade containing A. petelotii and A. hypargyreus. The complete chloroplast genome of A. gomezianus will provide a powerful tool to accelerate pharmacological development, systematics, and future phylogenetic studies in the Moraceae.

Monomorium is one of the most species-rich yet taxonomically problematic ant genus. An East Asian species, M. triviale Wheeler, W.M., 1906, are reproduced by obligate thelytokous parthenogenesis and performs strict reproductive division of labor. We sequenced the M. triviale mitogenome using next-generation sequencing methods. The circular mitogenome of M. triviale was 16,290 bp in length, consisting of 13 protein-coding genes, two ribosomal RNA genes, 22 transfer RNAs, and a single non-coding region of 568 bp. The base composition was AT-biased (82%). Gene order rearrangements were detected and likely to be unique to the genus Monomorium. We announce the M. triviale mitogenome as additional genomic resources for elucidating phylogenetic and taxonomic problems of Monomorium and comparative genomics of parthenogenetic ant species.

Abies forrestii is endemic to southwest China and ecologically important as a major component of the cold temperate forests. This study was the first report complete chloroplast (cp) genome of A. forrestii. The complete chloroplast genome was 120,022 bp in size. In total, 114 genes were identified, including 68 peptide-encoding genes, 35 tRNA genes, four rRNA genes, six open reading frames and one pseudogene. Thirteen genes contain introns. In phylogenetic analysis, A. forrestii was found to be closely related with A. nukiangensis, A. fanjingshanensis and A. delavayi subsp. fansipanensis. Our study will provide potential genetic resources for further evolutionary studies of this ecologically important species.

As a kind of rare plant with important medicinal value and breeding value, Rohdea wattii usually grow in dark and damp places. In this study, we reported the complete chloroplast genome of R. wattii. We used a variety of bioinformatics analysis methods to analyze and visualize the chloroplast genome and phylogenetic relationships. A typical quadripartite structure was observed in the chloroplast genome of R. wattii with a genome size of 156,487 bp. The length of the large single-copy region (LSC) was 84,969 bp, which was the longest region among the four regions; the second longest was the Inverted repeat region (IR) with 26,451 bp in length; and the smallest was the small single-copy region (SSC) with 18,616 bp in length. The overall GC content of R. wattii chloroplast genome is 37.61%. In addition, a total of 132 genes were identified in the whole genome of R. wattii, which include 86 protein-coding genes, 38 tRNA genes, and eight rRNA genes. Finally, by constructing a phylogenetic tree to analyze the phylogeny of R. wattii, and it indicated that R. wattii and Rohdea chinensis are a close evolutionary relationship.

The mitochondrial genome of Hemathlophorus brevigenatus Wei, 2005 collected from Huanggang Mountain of China is described using the NGS approach. The length of the sequence is 15,452 bp containing 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, two ribosomal RNA genes, and one control region. The overall A + T content is 79.5%. tRNA rearrangements occur in the MQI cluster. Phylogenetic analysis of H. brevigenatus resolved it in a clade with Allantus togatus in Allantinae which provides new evidence for the phylogeny of Tenthredinidae.

The complete sequence of the mitochondrial genome of Balanus trigonus Darwin, 1854 was examined using next-generation sequencing analysis. The complete mitogenome of B. trigonus has 15,336 bp in length and comprises 37 genes, namely, 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 tRNAs, and two rRNAs. Both the gene order and characteristics are consistent with those of other species within the family Balanidae. Phylogenetic analysis based on complete mitogenomes revealed taxonomic relationships among members of the family Balanidae.

Brachiopods are a clade of marine organisms with a tremendously diverse and abundant fossil record but with fewer than 500 species extant today. Even if a better understanding of their biology and genetics could help to test hypotheses about their impressive decline, knowledge of genetics and evolutionary genomics in extant brachiopods is very poor. Here, we present the complete mitochondrial genome sequence of the inarticulate Glottidia pyramidata, an eastern North American extant representative of the phylum Brachiopoda. Besides the general characteristics of the sequenced mitogenome, we present its unusual features such as deviant ATP8 protein sequence and supernumerary ORFs, and also unique gene order, considering the available genome sequences of other brachiopod species.

Risso’s dolphin (Grampus griseus Cuvier, 1812) is the only species of genus Grampus and a cosmopolitan marine inhabitant. Here, we report a polymorphic complete mitochondrial genome of G. griseus. The size of the total mitochondrial genome was 16,386 bp in length and contains 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, two ribosomal RNA genes, and a control region. 37 single nucleotide polymorphic sites (SNPs) were identified compared to the references. Based on the available total mitochondrial dolphin genomes’ phylogenetics, G. griseus has formed a clade with 0.1415 distance, sister to the following species of the subfamily Globicephalinae and the taxonomy of Orcinus orca still needs further investigations.

The genus Cuneopsis Simpson, 1900 comprises seven valid species, and Cuneopsis celtiformis (Heude, 1874) is the type species of this genus. Previous phylogenetic studies using complete mitochondrial genomes showed that Cuneopsis was not monophyletic, but the result was hampered by incomplete species sampling and lack of the type species of this genus. In this study, we collected C. celtiformis from the type locality and determined its complete maternal mitochondrial genome. This mitogenome is 15,922 bp in length and contains 14 protein-coding genes (including one F-orf), two rRNA genes, 22 tRNA genes, and 1 putative control region. Our mitochondrial phylogenomic analysis confirms that currently recognized genus Cuneopsis is polyphyletic, and C. celtiformis is the closest to C. heudei with high maximum likelihood bootstrap support value. Comprehensive sampling of all Cuneopsis species is needed for phylogenetic analysis to erect new genera in future studies.

The complete mitogenome of Periacma orthiodes Meyrick, 1894 was determined in this study. It was 15,306 bps long and strongly AT biased. It consisted of 13 PCGs, 22 tRNAs, 2 rRNAs and 1 non-coding control region (371 bps). Most PCGs used the typical ATN start codon, except for cox1. Four genes (cox1, cox2, nad4 and nad5) used truncated stop codons (a single T or TA) rather than the commonly used TAA or TAG. All tRNAs, excluding TrnS1, folded into the iconic cloverleaf structure. ML phylogenetic tree built on 13 PCGs from P. orthiodes and another 28 species in Gelechioidea demonstrated that the genus Periacma was a member of the family Autostichidae, which was consistent with the newest phylogenetic study.

The Indian Cuckoo, Cuculus micropterus, belongs to the family Cuculidae. In this paper, we sequenced and analysized the complete mitochondrial genome of C. micropterus. The complete mitochondrial genome of C. micropterus is 17,541 bp in length, which was submitted to the NCBI database under the accession number MZ048030. It contains 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, two ribosome RNA genes, and one non-coding control region. The overall base composition of the mitochondrial DNA is 33.2% for A, 24.2% for T, 29.8% for C, and 12.8% for G, with a GC content of 42.6%. In order to explore the molecular phylogenetics evolution of Cuculidae, the nucleotide sequence data of 13 PCGs of C. micropterus and other 11 Cuculiformes were used for the phylogenetic analysis. The result shows that C. micropterus is closely related to Cuculus canorus bakeri. The study contributes to illuminating the taxonomic status of C. micropterus, and may facilitate further investigation of the evolution of Cuculidae.

Aphyocypris chinensis Gunther, 1868 is a small freshwater fish of the family Xenocyprididae (Cypriniformes). In this study, we determined its complete mitochondrial genome and phylogenetic position in Cypriniformes. The complete mitochondrial genome is 16,608 bp in size, containing 13 protein-coding genes, two RNAs, 22 tRNAs, and a control region. It has the typical vertebrate mitochondrial gene arrangement. Our mitogenomic phylogeny revealed that A. chinensis belongs to Xenocyprididae, rather than Danionidae. This mitogenome information could play an essential role in resolving the conflict over its current taxonomic status in Cypriniformes.

We determined the complete mitochondrial sequences of female-transmitted (F) mitogenomes of six unionid specimens from the Lake Biwa system, Japan. Their gene contents and orders agreed with those of the typical F mitogenome of freshwater mussels. Molecular phylogenetic analysis using fifteen previously identified partial COI and 12 (six previously identified and six newly determined) whole mitogenome sequences revealed that five of the six mitogenomes (LC592401, LC592402, LC592403, LC592408, and LC592410) were those of Beringiana fukuharai, while the remaining one (LC592406) was Sinanodonta tumens.

The Black Drongo Dicrurus macrocercus is a bird belonging to the group Passeriformes, distributed almost all over the country in China. The conservation status of this species is Least Concern (LC) in IUCN. In this study, the complete mitogenome of D. macrocercus was determined. The mitochondrial DNA is packaged in a compact 17,056 based pair (bp) circular molecule with A + T content of 57.04%. It contains 37 typical mitochondrial genes, including 13 protein-coding genes, 2 rRNAs and 22 tRNAs, and 1 non-coding regions. We reconstructed a phylogenetic tree based on mitogenome sequences of 15 Dicruridae species and one outgroup. In trees, D. macrocercus was clustered as an independent clade with high support value (100). The new mitogenome data would provide useful information for application in conservation genetics and further clarify the phylogenetic evolution of this species.

Liniparhomaloptera qiongzhongensis Zheng and Chen 1980 is distributed in Hainan Island, China. The complete mitogenome of the species was sequenced in this study. It had a circular molecule of 16,554 bp in length with a total of 56.5% A + T content, containing 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 tRNA genes, two rRNA genes, and one control region. Five overlapping regions and 14 intergenic sequences were observed with the length of 2-10 bp and 1-31 bp, respectively. The phylogenetic analysis based on 13 protein-coding genes revealed that L. qiongzhongensis had the closest relationship with L. disparis. This study would provide useful genetic information for future studies on taxonomy, phylogeny and evolution of Liniparhomaloptera species.

Coscinodiscus is a genus common in marine phytoplankton, with some species thought to have a significant negative ecological impact. However, the availability of their genome sequences is rather limited. Here, we assembled and annotated the first complete mitochondrial genome (mtDNA) of the species Coscinodiscus granii L.F.Gough 1905, as part of our efforts to gain a better understanding of the genetic characteristics of Coscinodiscus taxa at a genomic level. The circular mtDNA was 34,970 bp in length and encoded 60 genes, including 32 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 24 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes, two ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes, and two conserved open reading frames (orfs). The overall GC content of C. granii mtDNA was 24.30%, which was slightly lower than that of C. wailesii (25.00%), the first species in the genus Coscinodiscus whose mtDNA has been reported, and higher than that of Melosira undulata (21.60%), the first species in the class Coscinodiscophyceae whose mtDNA has been reported. As expected for congeneric species, phylogenetic analysis using concatenated amino acid sequences of 27 shared PCGs suggested that C. granii has a closer evolutionary relationship with C. wailesii. Coscinodiscus was found to be monophyletic in the phylogeny. The complete mtDNAs of more Coscinodiscus species will facilitate the exploration of the evolutionary relationships of species in the Class Coscinodiscophyceae.

The complete mitochondrial genome of the true bug (Homoptera) Nysius cymoides (Spinola, 1837) is herein described and used for phylogenetic comparison with other species of Lygaeoidea. The mtDNA has a gene order and other molecular features typically observed in hexapods, and a long A + T-rich region, due to the occurrence of several repeat units. The phylogenetic analyses support the monophyly of all families except Rhyparochromidae.
