The Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region is an important manganese ore district in Southwest China, with manganese ore resource reserves accounting for 23% of the total manganese ore resource reserves in China. The Xialei manganese deposit (Daxin County, Guangxi) is the first super-large manganese deposit discovered in China. The Mn oxide in the supergene oxidation zone of the Xialei deposit was characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy spectrometer (EDS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM, HRTEM), and X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD). The Mn oxides have a gray-black/steel-gray color, a semi-metallic-earthy luster, and appear as oolitic, pisolitic, banded, massive, and cellular textures. Scanning electron microscopy images show that the manganese oxide minerals are present as fine-spherical particles with an earthy surface. TEM and HRTEM indicate the presence of oriented bundled and staggered nanorods, and nanopores between the crystals. The Mn oxide ore can be classified into two textural types: (1) oolitic and pisolitic (often with annuli) Mn oxide, and (2) massive Mn oxide. Pyrolusite, cryptomelane, and hollandite are the main Mn oxide minerals. The potassium contents of cryptomelane and pyrolusite are discussed. The unit cell parameters of pyrolusite are refined. The Changpo–Tongkeng tin polymetallic deposit in Dachang, Guangxi, is a world-class, superlarge, polymetallic tin deposit consisting of lower skarn zinc–copper ore bodies and upper tin polymetallic ore bodies. Garnet is the main gangue mineral in the skarn zinc–copper ore bodies and has a granular texture. Based on hand specimens and microscopic observations, the existing garnet can be divided into two generations: an early generation (Grt I) and a late generation (Grt II). The results of electron probe microanalysis (EPMA) and laser ablation-inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) in situ microanalysis show that the contents of SiO2 and CaO in the garnets from the two generations present limited variations, while the FeOT and Al2O3 contents vary significantly, indicating the grossular–andradite solid solution series (Gro29–82And12–69). Compared with Grt I (Gro72And25), Grt II (Gro39And59) is Fe-enriched and oscillatory zoning is developed. The total rare earth element (REE) contents in the two generations of garnet are relatively low, showing light rare earth element (LREE) depletion and heavy rare earth element (HREE) enrichment patterns. Grt II has higher REE content than Grt I and exhibits significant negative Eu anomalies (δEu = 0.18–0.44). The contents and variation characteristics of the major and trace elements in the two generations of garnet suggest that there were variable redox conditions and water/rock ratios in the hydrothermal system during the crystallization process of garnet. In the early stage, skarnization was in a relatively closed and low-oxygen fugacity system, with hydrothermal diffusion metasomatism being dominant, forming homogeneous Grt I lacking well-developed zoning. In the late stage of skarnization, the oxygen fugacity of the ore-forming fluids increased, with infiltration metasomatism being dominant, forming Grt II with well-developed oscillatory zoning. The contents of Sn, As, W, In, and Ge in the garnets are relatively high and increase with the proportion of andradite. Sn in zinc–copper ore bodies mainly exists in the form of isomorphic substitution in garnet, which may be the main reason for the lack of tin ore bodies during the skarn stage. This paper compares the trace element contents in garnets from domestic skarn deposits. The Bainiuchang Ag polymetallic deposit is located at the junction between the Cathaysia, Yangtze, China and Indosinian blocks. It has experienced many geological events, and records excellent conditions for multiple mineralization. In this paper, elemental correlation analysis, cluster analysis, factor analysis, a semivariogram of Zn/Pb values, mineralization distribution and trend surface analysis have been carried out based on the prospecting database and ore body model. Our results show that Ag–Pb–Zn were mineralized at moderate temperatures. Tin was mineralized at high temperatures, and Sn and Zn/Pb values are well correlated. The Zn/Pb values can be used for tracing the ore-forming fluid. The semivariogram revealed that the Zn/Pb values are moderately spatially dependent, with good mineralization continuity in the 100° and 10° directions. The spatial pattern of the elemental grade correlates with mineralization enrichment. The trend surface analysis shows that the Ag, Pb, Zn, and Cu mineralization is weak in the south and strong in the north of the deposit, and the Sn grades and Zn/Pb values are high in the south and low in the north. High-temperature Sn, medium-temperature Cu, and medium-temperature Ag–Pb–Zn mineralization have occurred in a south-to-north trend. Therefore, the source of the ore-forming fluid was in the southern part of the mining area. During the migration of the ore-forming fluid from south to north, different minerals were precipitated due to changes in the physicochemical environment. The spatial patterns of mineralization may provide a basis for studying the formation of the ore deposit, and can guide ore exploration and mining in the mine area and similar ore deposits elsewhere. In this study, 2-hydroxy-3-naphthalene hydroxamic acid (NHA) was used as a collector in microflotation experiments. By comparing the flotation performance of NHA with that of sodium oleate (NaOL) and salicylhydroxamic acid (SHA) commonly used in industry, the performance of NHA in the flotation separation of bastnaesite and calcite was studied. Potentiodynamic (zeta) measurements, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) measurements and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) measurements were used to reveal the interaction mechanism of bastnaesite with NHA. The results of the pure mineral microflotation test showed that when the pH value was 9 and the dosage of NHA was 4.0 × 10−4 mol/L, the recovery of bastnaesite reached 93.5%. A concentrate with a bastnaesite grade of 87.08% was obtained from the flotation test of artificially mixed ore, and the recovery of bastnaesite was 90.83%. The zeta measurements and FTIR experiments showed that NHA adsorbed onto the surface of bastnaesite, which changed the surface state of bastnaesite. XPS testing showed that NHA chemically adsorbed onto the bastnaesite, and Ce3+ formed a chelated structure with − C (OH) = NO − . The hydrophobicity of the surface of bastnaesite was improved, which made it easier for bastnaesite to adhere to the slurry surface by bubbles. At present, most of the domestic methods for recovering fine-grained bastnaesite use flotation recovery. Because of the nano-scale tunnel constructed by the active Mn-O octahedron in cryptomelane, cryptomelane-type manganese oxides have high activity in the oxidation of several volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Natural cryptomelane, in the form of supergene oxide manganese ore, carpets much of South China. In the lower part of the Datangpo Formation of Nanhua System on the southeastern Yangtze Platform, cryptomelane is one of the major manganese oxides in black shale of the Xiangtan manganese deposit in this deposit. Formaldehyde is a dominant indoor pollutant among volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and applications of synthetic cryptomelane have been reported to eliminate it. To study the removal capacity of naturally outcropping cryptomelane, representative samples of manganese oxide (the primary mineral component of cryptomelane) from the Xiangtan Mn deposit were analyzed in this study. The chemical composition, crystal structure and micromorphology of the manganese oxide minerals were explored using ICP-AES, XRD, EPMA, SEM and HR-TEM techniques. Fine-grained and poorly crystalline, these minerals consist primarily of cryptomelane, along with minor amounts of pyrolusite, hollandite, lithiophorite, limonite and quartz. Natural cryptomelane is a monoclinic crystal, and its cell parameters are refined. The results of catalytic tests revealed that natural cryptomelane has obvious catalytic activity in the oxidation of formaldehyde in a static environment under room temperature. This study may provide a natural mineral material as an inexpensive and efficient catalyst for the purification of formaldehyde in industrial or indoor air treatment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Tongkuangyu copper deposit in Zhongtiaoshan at the southern margin of the North China Craton is one of the oldest porphyry Cu deposits in the world and its metallogenesis and tectonic evolution have been debated. Here, porphyritic intrusion geochemical and geochronological data are reported to identify the diagenetic age, mineralization, tectonic setting, and evolution of the deposit. Geochemical data show that granodiorite porphyry is a peraluminous rock, with low concentrations of Fe (~3.99%) and Ti (~0.29%) and high concentrations of alkali (~6.13%) and high Al (~15.42%) and Mg numbers (~51). The rocks show comparative enrichment of Na, K, and Mg; higher La/Yb ratios, no significant Eu anomaly, and obvious Nb–Ta–Ti negative anomaly, showing similar geochemical characteristics to Archean TTG and sanukitoid. ΣREE vary greatly, ranging from 33.47 × 10−6 to 277.81 × 10−6 (average 137.09 × 10−6). The characteristics of REE show obvious fractionation of LREE and HREE, enrichment of LREE, and depletion of HREE. Some of the LREE (La and Ce) and LILE (K, Rb, and Ba) are enriched, but some of the LILE (Th and U) are depleted. In addition, some of the HFSE (Nb, Ta, P, and Ti) are depleted while some (Zr and Hf) are enriched. High precision LA–MC–ICP MS zircon U–Pb dating yield concordant ages of 2159 ± 19 Ma, which is broadly coeval with ore formation (~2.1 Ga) in the area. Zircon εHf(t) values range from −3.8 to 1.13, with a model age of 2778 to 2959 Ma, indicating that the formation of porphyry is related to the partial melting of Archean crust (~2.7 Ga) with a minor amount of mantle material added. Tongkuangyu granodiorite porphyry formed in the tectonic setting of the post-orogenic extension in the Paleoproterozoic, and Tongkuangyu Cu deposit may be related to the extension of the North China Craton in the Paleoproterozoic.
