The article provides analysis of American students enrolled in the Mining Academy of Freiberg, Germany, in 1875. Topics discussed include foreign governments' initiatives in sending young men to the Mining Academy to study mining and metallurgy, specialized curricula pursued by Americans rather than regular course of training, and Theodor Friedrich Moss being the first American in Freiberg.
