ABSTRACTBased on data collected as part of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) Recruit Health Questionnaire, 10-year temporal trends as well as demographic, socioeconomic, and behavioral risk factors for overweight and obesity were identified. Logistic regression analyses revealed a significant increase in the proportion of overweight recruits from 2003 to 2012 (N= 30,195). However, for obesity, findings pointed to decreasing proportions in the most recent years. Significant risk factors included self-rated eating habits, alcohol use, binge drinking, and smoking status. Controlling for these in predictive models did not markedly attenuate trends, suggesting that other factors accounted for observed trends.
