Abstract

Microorganisms from various areas of the planet had been found to have developed evolutionary changes in the catabolism of manmade compounds. The influence of the amount of xenobiotic compounds introduced by man into the environment on the evolutionary process remains unanswered. However, it was known that gene transfer, mutational drift, and genetic recombination and transposition were the mechanisms that spurred the enviromental adaption.
