Abstract

Due to deterioration of bauxite quality, the world is now turning its attention toward development of new processes for alumina production and toward improvement of old processes. It is well known that the poorer the quality (the higher the silica content) of bauxite used for alumina production by the Bayer process, the large the amount of aluminum and sodium oxide lost with the red mud during the bauxite leaching process. In order to develop an efficient method for extracting the alkali from the production waste – red mud – and returning it to the process, we must study the impact of sodium hydroaluminosilicate (SHAS) structure and composition of on alkali extraction efficiency when the red mud is processed with lime (this process results in the formation of SHASs during bauxite leaching).

Abstract

The formation of the triangles lowers the productivity of the mill, increases the metal consumption coefficient, and increases mandrel wear and the incidence of spindle breakage. Also, the extraction of a shell (weighing up to 3.5 tons) with triangles which is stuck in the mill -the shell being heated to 1250-1290~ -is a difficult operation associated with a considerable amount of heat radiation.

Abstract

In collaboration with the Chelyabinsk Tube-Rolling Mill, the All-Union MachineBuilding Correspondence Institute has developed a rolling technology and made investigations into the efficient redistribution of deformation between the mills when rolling thick-walled tubes in carbon steels on the 140 tube-rolling line. The line includes an annular heating furnace, a piercing mill with mushroom-shaped rollers and axial delivery, an automatic mill, a three-roll plug mill with axial delivery, and a twelvestand sizing and extension mill.
