The Deccan plateau spans nine states: Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, and Maharashtra. The Chotonagpur plateau includes parts of Chhattisgarh, central Jharkhand, and Meghalaya (Garo, Khasi and Jaintia Hills). We had the opportunity to collect and record some Chotonagpur plateau leeches. Only two species, Hemiclepsis chharwardamensis Mandal, 2013 and Paraclepsis jorapariensis Mandal, 2015, had previously been recorded from Chotonagpur and central Jharkhand. In the recently collected leech fauna of India's Deccan Plateau, five species belonging to two genera and two families, Poecilobdellidae and Glossiphonidae, were found in various habitats. Poecilobdella manilensis Lesson, 1924, Poecilobdella granulosa (Sevigny, 1826), and Hemiclepsis marginata marginata Müller, 1774 are three foreign species and Hemiclepsis marginata asiatica Moore, 1924 and Poecilobdella aligarhensis Mandal et al., 2021 are indigenous to India. More surveys are needed in the Deccan Plateau, which could lead to the discovery of additional species. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
