Foundation: Acute pancreatitis is an inflammatory process that affects the pancreatic gland. It is associated with high rates of morbidity and mortality, despite the great advances in the management of critical patients in recent years. Objective: to characterize morbidity and mortality in patients diagnosed with acute pancreatitis. Methods: a descriptive, retrospective and correlational study of patients admitted with a diagnosis of acute pancreatitis in the 2014-2015 period in the General Surgery Department of the Dr. Gustavo Aldereguía Lima Hospital in Cienfuegos. The variables analyzed were age, sex, skin color, clinical presentation, etiology, risk factors, complications, surgery requirement, time to admission to the intensive care unit, and discharge condition. Results: predominance of males (55.5%) and patients aged between 31-50 years (34.1%) was observed. The most frequent clinical presentation was mild (65.4%). The main etiology was vesicular lithiasis (40.7%). Among local complications, the acute necrotic collection was the most frequent, especially in severe cases (66.7%). Mortality was zero for mild and moderate cases, but increased to 63.3% in severe cases. Conclusion: the severity of acute pancreatitis is not related to its etiology; Local complications and mortality are greater in severe cases. Patients with mild acute pancreatitis usually have no relevant findings on computed tomography.

Las tareas docentes integradoras facilitan el desarrollo de habilidades comunicativas y otras que conducen al perfeccionamiento del pensamiento crítico, necesarias para el intercambio y la confrontación de criterios por parte de los estudiantes y la constatación social de sus avances en la asimilación de los contenidos. En este artículo se presenta una guía metodológica para el diseño, ejecución y control de tareas docentes integradoras en Morfofisiología Humana como disciplina integrada en la enseñanza de las Ciencias Básicas Biomédicas en la Carrera de Medicina. Los aspectos esenciales del artículo se muestran en tres momentos: descripción de la guía, orientaciones para desarrollar los diferentes pasos de esta y algunas consideraciones para facilitar su empleo. Un sistema de tareas docentes integradoras con carácter grupal, concebido desde la perspectiva de una nueva metodología en el aula contribuye al aprendizaje centrado en el estudiante, a partir de una óptica sistémica en su elaboración.

Integrative assignments support the development of communication skills and other skills leading to the improvement of critical thinking in students, a goal they need to meet in order both, to exchange and discuss criteria and to appreciate their social progress in the assimilation of contents. This article presents a methodological guide for the design, implementation and control of integrative assignments in the Human Morphophysiology discipline. This subject is included in the Basic Biomedical Sciences in Medicine Studies. The key aspects of this article are provided in three stages: description of the guide, guidelines to develop its various steps and some considerations to facilitate its use. An integral tasks-based system to work in groups, conceived from a systemic perspective of a new methodology in the classroom, contributes to the development of student-centered learning.

In spite of the known didactic value of integrated teaching tasks, they are not appropriately used neither individually, nor in groups, due to the lack of an specific integrating didactic and proposals that work as methodological tools. A bibliographic revision was conducted to clarify the role of integrated teaching tasks as part of the structure of studying activities and to highlight some aspects that could make easier the design, implementation and control of such tasks. It was possible to identify that integrated teaching tasks are part of the structure of studying activities to the level of partial objectives that students should meet. Among the aspects that make the design, implementation and control easier we may find: role as guideline, integrative approach and systematization of contents, systemic approach of the teaching tasks, links between teaching contents and practical life (theory and practice), care for diversity, integrated teaching tasks in groups and systemic, collective and dynamic methodologic work.
