Main indicators: average time of arrival-triage 2.5 minutes; duration of the triage <5 min; arrival time-medical attention (red 0-7 minutes, yellow 7-14 minutes, green 28 minutes); percentage of patients attended but not classified 10.5%; agreement index between nurse-sorter and doctors for patients with green or yellow code 77.6%; percentage of income for patients with a red code, 98%; percentage of income for patients with a yellow code of 19.5%. In the period under review, the demand for medical care doubled (mainly due to the green code), and the mortality rate of the emergency department was reduced. Background: the subject General Medicine VII is part of the guiding discipline in Medicine studies. It ensures that when Medicine Doctors obtain their degrees they have acquired all the knowledge that allows them to perform multiple tasks in health care services. Objective: to assess the subject General Medicine VII, in the university polyclinic as part of the educational process. Methods: we conducted a mixed research using quantitative and qualitative methods through a methodology that included the level of satisfaction of students, teachers, managers, and knowledge levels obtained by students. This methodology was applied in the fourth year of Medicine studies and in the four university polyclinics in the municipality of Cienfuegos, inserted into the new training model. Results: managers referred insufficient chances for exchanging with subordinates as well as for the profits of methodological activities, teachers were dissatisfied because of insufficient educational preparation and high work load and students reported difficulties with the availability and on-time delivery of textbooks, in addition to not having the necessary instrumentation for skills appropriation. Conclusions: we found that managers were dissatisfied with organizational and functional aspects, teachers with planning and implementation of the teaching process and students with the literature and the necessary tools while in teaching practice.

Fundamento: los sistemas de urgencia prehospitalaria han sido un método histórico de atención precoz para disminuir mortalidad; la información sobre actividades asistenciales en el área de urgencias a escala mundial demuestra un crecimiento de la demanda en dicho servicio. Objetivo: determinar el comportamiento de la demanda de asistencia médica en un Subsistema de Urgencias. Métodos: estudio descriptivo, retrospectivo, longitudinal realizado en el Subsistema de Urgencias del Policlínico Área V de la provincia de Cienfuegos. Se utilizaron los informes estadísticos de los años 2007 a 2009 para obtener el total de pacientes que solicitaron asistencia médica por supuestas urgencias o emergencias médicas, se analizó la demanda de asistencia médica anual y por meses, horarios de consulta, clasificación según riesgo vital y diagnósticos. Resultados: aumentó la demanda de asistencia médica de forma ascendente en los años estudiados, el horario de mayor demanda fue el nocturno, el grupo de edades más atendido fue el de 15 a 59 años, las infecciones respiratorias agudas fueron las más consultadas y la conducta tomada que predominó fue el tratamiento médico ambulatorio del paciente; en los años estudiados aumentaron gradualmente las remisiones y se utilizó con menos frecuencia la sala de observación. Conclusiones: el perfeccionamiento del Subsistema de Urgencias de la Atención Primaria de Salud ha provocado un aumento de la demanda de atención de urgencias en el Policlínico Área V de Cienfuegos.

Quality has currently a central role within our National Health System, particularly in the formative process of human resources where we need professionals more prepared every day and ready to face complex tasks. We make a bibliographic review related to quality assessment of educational process in health system to analyze the perspectives of the new model of University Policlinic, formative context of Medical Sciences students.
