Luteolin is a natural flavonoid that has a variety of pharmacological activities, such as anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, anti-bacterial, anti-viral, apoptosis inhibition, cell autophagy regulation, and anti-tumor activity. It is one of the main ingredients of an expert-recommended herbal formula for the prevention and treatment of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). This suggests that luteolin has strong pharmacological effects on the prevention and treatment of COVID-19. The aims of this study were to identify the molecular targets of luteolin and to infer the possible mechanisms by which it exerts its pharmacological effects. The GSE159787 data set was obtained from the Gene Expression Omnibus online database, and differentially expressed genes were analyzed. There were 22 upregulated differentially expressed genes enriched in the COVID-19 signaling pathway, suggesting that the upregulation of these genes may be closely related to the occurrence of COVID-19. Molecular docking results showed that luteolin had strong binding efficiency to 20 of these 22 key genes. Six of these genes (CFB, EIF2AK2, OAS1, MAPK11, OAS3, and STAT1) showed strong binding activity. Luteolin can regulate the COVID-19 signaling pathway by combining with these targets, which may have a therapeutic effect on COVID-19.

Previous research has shown that blood flow abnormalities affect major depressive disorder (MDD) from multiple perspectives. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the relationship between middle cerebral artery (MCA) blood flow velocity parameters and clinical symptom scores (Hamilton Depression Rating Scale [HAMD] and Montgomery–Åsberg Depression Rating Scale [MADRS]) in patients with MDD. We compared the MCA blood flow velocity parameters, including peak systolic velocity (MCA-PSV), end-diastolic velocity (MCA-EDV), and mean velocity (MCA-MV), between 50 MDD patients and 50 control subjects. Additionally, we analyzed the correlation between these parameters and HAMD and MADRS scores. Hemodynamic parameters such as pulsatility index and resistance index were also compared between the 2 groups. MCA-PSV, MCA-EDV, and MCA-MV were significantly lower in MDD patients compared to the control group, while pulsatility index and resistance index were significantly higher. Correlation analysis revealed that MCA-PSV, MCA-EDV, and MCA-MV were significantly negatively correlated with HAMD and MADRS scores in MDD patients, indicating that cerebral blood flow velocity decreases as depressive symptoms worsen. Furthermore, regression analysis confirmed the negative relationship between blood flow velocity parameters and clinical symptom scores. The results of this study suggest that the reduction in cerebral blood flow velocity in MDD patients may be associated with the severity of depressive symptoms. This finding provides new insights into the pathophysiological mechanisms of MDD and offers a potential theoretical basis for developing depression treatment strategies based on cerebral blood flow velocity parameters.

The study was outlined to develop and approve a nomogram and chance stratification demonstrate for foreseeing overall survival of Chinese patients with at first metastatic small-cell lung cancer (SCLC). We collected information from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database approximately Chinese SCLC patients with at first distant metastases between 2010 and 2015. Patients with incomplete data about the follow-up time or clinicopathological information were excluded. The included patients were randomized into the training and validation set. Univariate and multivariate Cox proportional hazard regression models were performed. By integrating the significant variables screened, a prescient nomogram and risk stratification model were developed. In addition, we collected 198 small-cell lung cancer patients with metastasis at diagnosis from the case database of the Affiliated Hospital of Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine as an external validation cohort. In all, 421 patients were screened from the SEER database. Multivariate examination showed that age (P = .049), sex (P = .001), grade (P = .008), chemotherapy (P = .001), liver metastasis (P = .001), and pleural invasion (P = .012) were independent prognostic factors. The C-indicator of the nomogram to anticipate overall survival was higher than that of the eighth edition of the American Joint Committee on Cancer Tumor Node Metastasis classification system (0.75 vs 0.543; P < .001). A risk stratification model was encouraged to be created to precisely classify patients into 2 prognostic bunches. The survival rates anticipated by the nomogram appeared to have critical qualifications from the Kaplan–Meier curves in the entire SEER cohort. Calibration curves and survival predictions also showed strong accuracy and consistency in the external validation cohort. The nomogram provided a clear prognostic superiority over the traditional Tumor Node Metastasis system. It could help clinicians make individual risk predictions for initially metastatic Chinese SCLC cancer patients and give necessary treatment recommendations.

Ferroptosis is iron-dependent programmed cell death that inhibits tumor growth, particularly in traditional treatment-resistant tumors. Prognostic models constructed from ferroptosis-related genes are lacking; prognostic biomarkers remain insufficient. We acquired gene expression data and corresponding clinical information for bladder cancer (BC) samples from public databases. Ferroptosis-related genes from the ferroptosis database were screened for clinical predictive value. We validated gene expression differences between tumors and normal tissues through polymerase chain reaction and western blotting. Gene ontology and Kyoto encyclopedia of genes and genomes enrichment analyses were conducted to explore signaling pathways affecting the overall survival of patients with BC. CIBERSORT was used to quantify the infiltration of 22 immune cell types. We identified 6 genes (EGFR, FADS1, ISCU, PGRMC1, PTPN6, and TRIM26) to construct the prognostic risk model. The high-risk group had a poorer overall survival than the low-risk group. Receiver operating characteristic curves demonstrated excellent predictive accuracy. The validation cohort and 3 independent datasets confirmed the models’ general applicability and stability. BC tissues had elevated FADS1, PTPN6, and TRIM26 mRNA and protein levels and decreased ISCU levels. Enrichment analysis indicated that neurosecretory activity might be the main pathway affecting the overall survival. High- and low-risk groups had significantly different immune cell infiltration. Specific ferroptosis-related gene expression was associated with immune cell infiltration levels. The risk score was significantly correlated with patients’ clinical characteristics. A novel, widely applicable risk model with independent predictive value for the prognosis of patients with BC was established; candidate molecules for future BC research were identified.

Recent empirical research posits a link between lymphocyte subgroups and both the incidence and prognosis of sepsis. Nevertheless, the potential influence of multiple confounding variables obscures any clear causative correlation. Utilizing a 2-sample Mendelian randomization approach, we conducted a meta-analysis of lymphocyte subgroups. In a genome-wide association study, flow cytometry was applied to a lymphocyte subgroup comprising 3757 Sardinians to identify genes influenced by blood immune cells. The sepsis meta-analysis data were sourced from the UK Biobank database, including 11,643 treatment groups and 47,841 control groups. Inverse variance-weighted, Mendelian randomization-Egger regression, weighted median, simple mode, and weighted mode methods were deployed to ascertain the causative relationship between lymphocyte subgroup and sepsis. Cochran Qtest, the Mendelian randomization-Egger intercept test, and funnel plots were leveraged to assess the robustness of study findings. The inverse variance-weighted analysis disclosed that the absolute count of CD4 regulatory T cells (CD4 Treg AC) within the lymphocyte subgroup has a causative link to an elevated risk of sepsis, with an odds ratio of 1.08 and a 95% confidence interval of 1.02 to 1.15 (P = .011). Compared to individuals not subjected to this factor, those exposed to CD4 Treg AC have a marginally elevated sepsis risk by approximately 0.08%. No causative relationships were observed between sepsis risk and the absolute counts of other lymphocyte subgroups such as CD8+ T cells, CD4+ CD8dim T cells, natural killer T cells, B cells (B cell absolute count), and HLA DR+ natural killer cells. The 2-sample Mendelian randomization study indicated a causal relationship between the level of CD4 Treg AC and the increased risk of sepsis. The elevation in circulating lymphocyte subgroups suggests higher susceptibility to sepsis, affirming the immune susceptibility inherent to this condition. The findings from our study may propose potential targets for diagnosis and intervention of sepsis.

To explore the feasibility and application value of texture analysis based on computed tomography (CT) for predicting the differentiation of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). Patients diagnosed with ESCC who underwent chest contrast-enhanced CT before treatment were selected. Based on the pathological results, the patients were stratified into poorly differentiated and moderately well-differentiated groups. FireVoxel software was used to analyze the region of interest based on venous phase CT images. Texture parameters including the mean, median, standard deviation (SD), inhomogeneity, skewness, kurtosis, and entropy were obtained automatically. Differences in the texture parameters and their relationship with the degree of differentiation between the 2 groups were analyzed. The value of CT texture parameters in identifying poor differentiation and moderate-well differentiation of esophageal cancer was analyzed using the ROC curve. A total of 48 patients with ESCC were included, including 24 patients in the poorly differentiated group and 24 patients in the moderate-well-differentiated group. There were negative correlations between SD, inhomogeneity, entropy, and the degree of differentiation of esophageal cancer (P < .05). The correlation of inhomogeneity was the highest (r = −0.505, P < .001). SD, inhomogeneity, and entropy could effectively distinguish between the poorly and moderately well-differentiated groups, with statistically significant differences between the 2 groups (P < .05). The best critical values for SD, inhomogeneity, and entropy were 17.538, 0.017, and 3.917, respectively. The areas under the ROC curve were 0.793, 0.792, and 0.729, respectively, with the SD and inhomogeneity being the best. The application of texture analysis on venous phase CT images holds promise as a method for forecasting the degree of differentiation in esophageal cancers, which could significantly contribute to the preoperative noninvasive evaluation of tumor differentiation.

Malignant skin tumors mainly include basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and malignant melanoma. There is currently observational research suggesting that changes in cathepsin (CTS) may be a factor in the development of malignant skin tumors, but no studies have yet demonstrated a causal relationship between tissue protease changes and the occurrence of malignant skin tumors. Current studies have shown that cathepsin is involved in tumor cell invasion and metastasis by regulating growth factors and cellular immune function in tumor microenvironment, decomposing extracellular matrix and basement membrane, and promoting angiogenesis. In this study, we conducted a bidirectional Mendelian-randomization study using publicly available genome-wide association study (GWAS; GWAS Catalog) data. This study applies a bidirectional multivariate Mendelian randomization (MR) approach to investigate the causal relationship between cathepsin, basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and malignant melanoma. In cases where multiple cathepsins are implicated as etiological factors in certain diseases, a multivariable analysis is conducted to assess the direct and indirect causal effects of the exposure factors. In this study, we present a comprehensive MR analysis to investigate the relationship between 9 cathepsin and basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and malignant melanoma. Based on our MR analysis using the largest GWAS Catalog dataset available, we are able to draw relatively reliable conclusions. In the MR study, we found that tissue protease L2 can promote skin cancer, Cathepsin O, and Cathepsin F are associated with an increased risk of basal cell carcinoma. Cathepsin H can inhibit basal cell carcinoma and malignant melanoma. In the reverse MR study, it was found that squamous cell carcinoma may cause an increase in Cathepsin O expression. In the multivariate analysis, it was found that Cathepsin H is a direct factor in reducing the occurrence of skin cancer and melanoma, with no apparent causal relationship to non-melanoma skin cancer. Cathepsin has a dual impact on skin cancer cells, and the expression of different cathepsins at the edge of skin tumors may indicate different developmental tendencies of skin cancer. Cathepsin may serve as effective biomarkers for predicting tumors.

High-throughput immune repertoire (IR) sequencing provides direct insight into the diversity of B cell receptor (BCR) and T cell receptor (TCR), with great potential to revolutionize the diagnosis, monitoring, and prevention of immune system–related disorders. In this study, multiplex PCR was applied to amplify the complementarity-determining regions of BCR and TCR, followed by comprehensive analysis by high-throughput sequencing. We compare the TCR (BCR) of bone marrow fluid (BMF) and peripheral blood (PB) samples from 17 patients in the Epstein-Barr and immunodeficiency groups, respectively. Our study shows that the diversity of the IR of blood samples is very similar to that of bone marrow samples statistically. However, the distributions of the monoclonal genes are significantly different in these 2 samples of most patients. This suggests that the BMFs can be replaced by the PB samples in diversity detection of IR to monitor the immune status of the body, while the detection of the BMFs is unreplaceable when the monoclonal change occurs. We used high-throughput sequencing to assess the TCR and BCR of the patients and provide a basis for the clinical analysis of PB and bone marrow samples and selection of disease diagnosis and monitoring methods.

This study aimed to investigate the clinical predictors, including traditional Chinese medicine tongue characteristics and other clinical parameters for chemotherapy-induced myelosuppression (CIM), and then to develop a clinical prediction model and construct a nomogram. A total of 103 patients with lung cancer were prospectively enrolled in this study. All of them were scheduled to receive first-line chemotherapy regimens. Participants were randomly assigned to either the training group (n = 52) or the test group (n = 51). Tongue characteristics and clinical parameters were collected before the start of chemotherapy, and then the incidence of myelosuppression was assessed after treatment. We used univariate logistic regression analysis to identify the risk predictors for assessing the incidence of CIM. Moreover, we developed a predictive model and a nomogram using multivariate logistic regression analysis. Finally, we evaluated the predictive performance of the model by examining the area under the curve value of the receiver operating characteristic, calibration curve, and decision curve analysis. As a result, a total of 3 independent predictors were found to be associated with the CIM in multivariate regression analysis: the fat tongue (OR = 3.67), Karnofsky performance status score (OR = 0.11), and the number of high-toxic drugs in chemotherapy regimens (OR = 4.78). Then a model was constructed using these 3 predictors and it exhibited a robust predictive performance with an area under the curve of 0.82 and the consistent calibration curves. Besides, the decision curve analysis results suggested that applying this predictive model can result in more net clinical benefit for patients. We established a traditional Chinese medicine prediction model based on the tongue characteristics and clinical parameters, which could serve as a useful tool for assessing the risk of CIM.

Mopeds are a popular mode of transportation in Taiwan, yet collision accidents often lead to abrasion requiring medical attention. While hydrofiber foam dressing (HFD) have proven to help control exudates, reduce the frequency of dressing changes, and preserve more viable tissue, there is currently no established clinical guideline for the treatment of abrasion wounds with dressings. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the clinical outcomes of abrasions treated with hydrofiber foam dressings. A total of 127 patients treated with HFDs between June 2018 and January 2021 were included in this study. Abrasions were categorized into 3 grades: grade I (n = 0) involving the epidermal layer, grade II (n = 89) involving the dermal layer, and grade III (n = 38) involving subcutaneous layer, bone or tendon. Statistical analysis showed that there was a significant difference in healing time (P < 0.001) and the number of outpatient department (OPD) visits (P = 0.013) between grade II and grade III. However, there was no significant difference in the number of dressing pieces used. This study offers a clinical reference for the use of hydrofiber foam dressings in treating different grades of abrasion wounds caused by moped accidents.

The purpose of this study was to thoroughly evaluate the clinical features and surgical options for high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (HSIL) in postmenopausal women. A total of 308 patients diagnosed with HSIL through colposcopic cervical biopsy and endocervical curettage were included. Their clinical characteristics, surgical treatments, and postoperative pathology were analyzed. Key findings include: 1. Patients with positive preoperative thinprep cytologic test (TCT) results and postoperative pathology indicating HSIL or squamous cell carcinoma (≥HSIL) were significantly more frequent than those with negative preoperative TCT results (P < .05). 2. Univariate analysis indicated significant impacts of TCT, human papillomavirus (HPV) type, transformation zone (TZ) location, and surgical technique on postoperative pathology (P < .05). 3. Logistic regression analysis confirmed significant influences of TCT, HPV type, TZ location, and surgical method on postoperative pathology outcomes (P < .05), showing that each unit increase in TZ raised the probability of ≥HSIL in postoperative pathology by 49.7%. In surgical comparisons, cold knife conization (CKC) and extrafascial hysterectomy resulted in 8.379 and 4.427 times higher probabilities of ≥HSIL in postoperative pathology, respectively, compared to loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP). 4. Surgical methods significantly influenced margin results (P < .05). After LEEP, 17.5% of cases had positive margins, compared to 9.4% after CKC, and 3.7% after extrafascial hysterectomy, indicating the highest rate of positive surgical margins occurred with LEEP. 1. Combined TCT and HPV screening is crucial for cervical cancer prevention, early detection, and management in postmenopausal women. Women with positive results for both TCT and HPV should undergo colposcopic cervical biopsy and endocervical curettage. 2. For patients with TZ3, CKC is the recommended surgical option. 3. CKC is the preferred treatment for postmenopausal women with HSIL, as it effectively diagnoses and treats the lesion, showing superior outcomes in managing postmenopausal HSIL.

This study aimed to investigate the reasons for patient delay in chronic kidney disease (CKD) and provide a scientific basis for implementing effective interventions. With the adoption of the phenomenological method in qualitative research, semi-structured, face-to-face interviews were conducted with 14 cases, and the Colaizzi seven-step analysis method was used to analyze the interview data and refine the themes. A total of 4 themes were obtained, namely, a cognitive explanation of illness, negative psychological emotions, socioeconomic levels, and limited medical resources. The current status of patient delay in chronic kidney disease is serious, and there are various reasons for it. Health management departments and healthcare providers at all levels should pay attention to this situation and provide targeted supportive interventions and health education to help patients establish the correct awareness of medical consultation and effectively improve their quality of survival.

Preeclampsia (PE) is a pregnancy complication characterized by placental dysfunction. However, the relationship between maternal blood markers and PE is unclear. It is helpful to improve the diagnosis and treatment of PE using new biomarkers related to PE in the blood. Three PE-related microarray datasets were obtained from the Gene Expression Synthesis database. The limma software package was used to identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between PE and control groups. Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator regression, support vector machine, random forest, and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to determine key diagnostic biomarkers, which were verified using clinical samples. Subsequently, functional enrichment analysis was performed. In addition, the datasets were combined for immune cell infiltration analysis and to determine their relationships with core diagnostic biomarkers. The diagnostic performance of key genes was evaluated using the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, C-index, and GiViTi calibration band. Genes with potential clinical applications were evaluated using decision curve analysis (DCA). Seventeen DEGs were identified, and 6 key genes (FN1, MYADM, CA6, PADI4, SLC4A10, and PPP4R1L) were obtained using 3 types of machine learning methods and logistic regression. High diagnostic performance was found for PE through evaluation of the ROC, C-index, GiViti calibration band, and DCA. The 2 types of immune cells (M0 macrophages and activated mast cells) were significantly different between patients with PE and controls. All of these genes except SLC4A10showed significant differences in expression levels between the 2 groups using quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction. This model used 6 maternal blood markers to predict the occurrence of PE. The findings may stimulate ideas for the treatment and prevention of PE.

Low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) is a crucial marker of cardiovascular system damage. In the Chinese population, the estimation of LDL-C concentration by Friedewald, Martin-Hopkins or Sampson equations is not accurate. The aim of this study was to develop a group of new equations for calculating LDL-C concentration using machine learning techniques and to evaluate their efficacy. A total of 182,901 patient samples were collected with standard lipid panel measurements. These samples were collated and randomly divided into a training set and a test set. In the training set, a new equation was constructed using polynomial ridge-regression and compared to the Friedewald, Martin/Hopkins and extended Martin/Hopkins, or Sampson equations in the test set. Subsequently, an additional set of 17,285 patient samples were collected to evaluate the performance of the new equation in clinical practice. The new equation, a ternary cubic equation, was accurate and easy to use, with a goodness-of-fit R2of 0.9815 and an uncertainty MSE of 37.4250 on the testing set. The difference between the calculated value by the new equation and the measured value of LDL-C was small (0.0424 ± 5.1161 vs Friedewald equation: −13.3647 ± 17.9198, vs Martin/Hopkins and extended Martin/Hopkins equation: −6.4737 ± 8.1036, vs Sampson equation: −8.9252 ± 12.6522, P < .001). It could accurately calculate LDL-C concentration even at high triglyceride and low LDL-C. Furthermore, the new equation could also precisely calculate LDL-C concentration in actual clinical use (R2 = 0.9780, MSE = 24.8482). The new equation developed in this study can accurately calculate LDL-C concentration within the full concentration range of triglyceride and LDL-C, and can serve as a supplement to the direct determination of LDL-C concentration for the prevention, treatment, evaluation, and monitoring of atherosclerotic diseases, compared to the Friedewald, Martin/Hopkins and extended Martin/Hopkins, or Sampson equations.

Gut microbiota directly interacts with intestinal epithelium and is a significant factor in the pathogenesis of ulcerative colitis (UC). A meta-analysis was performed to investigate gut microbiota composition of patients with UC in the United States. We also collected fecal samples from Chinese patients with UC and healthy individuals. Gut microbiota was tested using 16S ribosomal RNA gene sequencing. Meta-analysis and 16S ribosomal RNA sequencing revealed significant differences in gut bacterial composition between UC patients and healthy subjects. The Chinese UC group had the highest scores for Firmicutes, Clostridia, Clostridiales, Streptococcaceae,and Blautia, while healthy cohort had the highest scores for P-Bacteroidetes, Bacteroidia, Bacteroidales, Prevotellaceae, and Prevotella_9. A gut microbiota-based discriminative model trained on an American cohort achieved a discrimination efficiency of 0.928 when applied to identify the Chinese UC cohort, resulting in a discrimination efficiency of 0.759. Additionally, a differentiation model was created based on gut microbiota of a Chinese cohort, resulting in an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of 0.998. Next, we applied the model established for the Chinese UC cohort to analyze the American cohort. Our findings suggest that the diagnostic efficiency ranged from 0.8794 to 0.9497. Furthermore, a combined analysis using data from both the Chinese and US cohorts resulted in a model with a diagnostic efficacy of 0.896. In summary, we found significant differences in gut bacteria between UC individuals and healthy subjects. Notably, the model from the Chinese cohort performed better at diagnosing UC patients compared to healthy subjects. These results highlight the promise of personalized and region-specific approaches using gut microbiota data for UC diagnosis.

Vonoprazan, a novel acid suppressant and the first potassium-competitive acid blocker, has the potential to enhance the eradication rate of Helicobacter pyloridue to its robust acid-suppressing capacity. This study aimed to compare the efficacy of vonoprazan-based dual therapy (vonoprazan–amoxicillin, VA) with vonoprazan-based bismuth quadruple therapy (VBQT) as a first-line treatment for H pyloriinfection. This retrospective single-center non-inferiority study was conducted in China. Treatment-naive H pylori-positive patients aged 18 to 80 received one of the 2 treatment regimens at our center. The VA group received vonoprazan 20 mg twice daily and amoxicillin 1000 mg 3 times daily for 14 days, whereas the VBQT group received vonoprazan 20 mg, amoxicillin 1000 mg, clarithromycin 500 mg, and bismuth potassium citrate 220 mg twice daily for 14 days. The eradication rate was evaluated 4 to 6 weeks after treatment using the carbon-13/14 urea breath test. Propensity score matching was used to analyze eradication rates, adverse events (AEs), and patient compliance between the 2 groups. Initially, 501 patients were included, and after propensity score analysis, 156 patients were selected for the study. Intention-to-treat analysis showed eradication rates of 87.2% (95% CI, 79.8–94.6%) for the VA group and 79.5% (95% CI, 70.5–88.4%) for the VBQT group (P = .195). Per-protocol analysis demonstrated rates of 94.4% (95% CI, 89.2–99.7%) for the VA group and 96.8% (95% CI, 92.4–100%) for the VBQT group (P = .507). Non-inferiority was confirmed between the 2 groups, with Pvalues < .025. The VA group showed a lower rate of AEs (10.3% vs 17.9%, P = .250) compared to the VBQT group. There were no significant differences in patient compliance between the 2 groups. In treatment-naive patients with H pyloriinfection, both the 14-day VA and VBQT regimens demonstrated comparable efficacy, with excellent eradication rates. Moreover, due to reduced antibiotic usage, lower rate of AEs, and lower costs, VA dual therapy should be prioritized.

The aim of this study is to elucidate the prevalence of depression and examine the contributing factors to depression among adolescents in Xinjiang, China. A stratified cluster sampling methodology was employed in this study, with the sample size determined through consideration of prior studies on adolescent depression. Employing this approach, 6 schools were chosen from each prefecture-level city, designated as urban areas, and 3 schools were selected from each county. Subsequently, individual classes were treated as units, and a minimum of 80 students from each grade were surveyed within the entire class. The investigation of adolescents involved the administration of a questionnaire assessing the factors influencing depression, along with the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D). Multivariate linear regression was used to analyze the influencing factors of depression. The occurrence rates of depression were 12.17%, 13.05%, 12.32%, and 9.29% in junior middle school, senior middle school, vocational high school, and college, respectively. The corresponding CES-D scores were 10.54 ± 8.26, 11.20 ± 8.37, 12.17 ± 6.94, and 11.33 ± 6.28. Significant associations with the CES-D score were observed for gender, smoking, alcohol consumption, and spending more than 4 hours online daily across the educational levels mentioned. The risk of experiencing depressive symptoms was elevated among female junior and senior high school students who spent more than 4 hours daily on the internet, engaged in cigarette smoking, and consumed alcohol. The findings underscore the significance of targeting high-risk groups, particularly through home-school collaborations, to mitigate excessive internet use and consequently reduce the likelihood of depressive symptoms in students.

To examine the factors that contribute to patient delays among individuals with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and offer insights to help develop specific risk management strategies. Conducted as a cross-sectional study between September 2021 and April 2022, this study used a convenient sampling technique to select 245 individuals diagnosed with CKD from a Grade 3 Class A hospital located in Shanxi Province. These individuals were chosen as the subjects of the study. The research participants underwent an investigation using several assessment tools, including socio-demographic information questionnaire, medical behavior, the social support rating scale, the simplified coping style questionnaire, and the General Self-efficacy Scale. The study revealed that 35.4% of individuals with CKD experienced patient delay (the interval between the initial onset and the time of seeking medical attention being longer than or equal to 3 months). Through a multifactorial logistic regression analysis, it was determined that various factors independently influenced patient delay in patients with CKD. These factors included the level of knowledge about CKD, educational level, frequency of attending physical examinations, severity of initial symptoms, social support, self-efficacy, positive coping, and negative coping. Numerous factors contribute to the Patient Delay. To effectively enhance awareness and coping abilities regarding CKD in high-risk groups, it is essential to implement focused and continuous interventions throughout the medical seeking process.

Accurate assessment of wound areas is crucial in making therapeutic decisions, as the prognosis and changes in the size of the wound over time play a significant role. An ideal assessment method should possess qualities such as speed, affordability, accuracy, user-friendliness for both patients and healthcare professionals, and suitability for daily clinical practice. This study aims to introduce a handheld 3-dimensional (3D) scanner and evaluate its accuracy in measuring wound areas. Engineers from the Industrial Technology Research Institute in Taiwan developed a handheld 3D scanner with the intention of extending its application to the medical field. A project was conducted to validate the accuracy of this 3D scanner. We utilized a smartphone (Asus ZenFone 2 with a 13-million-pixel rear camera), a digital single-lens reflex digital camera (Nikon, D5000, Tokyo, Japan), and the 3D scanner to repeatedly measure square papers of known size that were affixed to the curved surface of life-size facial mask or medical teaching breast models. The “Image J” software was employed for 2-dimensional image measurements, while the “3D Edit” software was used to assess the “area of interest” on 3D objects. By using square papers with predetermined dimensions, the measurement-associated error rate (ER) could be calculated for each image. Three repeated measurements were performed using the “Image J” software for each square paper. The ERs of the 3D scan images were all below 3%, with an average ER of 1.64% in this study. The close-up mode of the smartphone exhibited the highest ER. It was observed that as the area increased, the ER also increased in the digital single-lens reflex camera group. The extension distortion effect caused by the wide-angle lens on the smartphone may increase the ER. However, the definition of a healthy skin edge may vary, and different algorithms for calculating the measurement area are employed in various 3D measurement software. Therefore, further validation of their accuracy for medical purposes is necessary. Effective communication with software engineers and discussions on meeting clinical requirements are crucial steps in enhancing the functionality of the 3D scanner.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) remains a significant global health concern, as characterized by its high mortality rate ranking second among all the leading causes of death. The liver serves as the primary site of CRC metastasis, and the occurrence of liver metastasis is a significant contributor to mortality among patients diagnosed with CRC. The survival rate of patients with colorectal liver metastasis has significantly increased with the advancement of comprehensive tumor therapy. However, radical surgery remains the key factor. Since there are frequently multiple liver metastases, which are prone to recurrence after surgery, it is crucial to preserve as much liver parenchyma as possible without affecting the prognosis. The issue of surgical margins plays a crucial role in this regard. In this review, we begin by examining the occurrence of positive surgical margins in liver metastases of patients diagnosed with CRC. We aim to define positive margins in hepatic surgery, examine the relationship between margins and prognosis and establish a foundation for future research in this field.

This cross-sectional study aimed to explore the associated factors of depression in primiparas with hypothyroidism during pregnancy. The research subjects were 200 primiparas with hypothyroidism during pregnancy who were admitted to our hospital between December 2016 and December 2019. Self-rating depression scale scores were used to evaluate the depression, and the incidence of depression were examined. The data from all the subjects were collected to compare the differences between primiparas with hypothyroidism during pregnancy with and without depression. A logistic regression equation was used to analyze the influencing factors of depression in these patients. Of the 200 primiparas who took part in this study, 27 suffered from depression, accounting for 13.50%. There were differences in age, education level, economic income, sleep quality, and conjugal relations between the depressed and the nondepressed participants. When the above factors were included in the logistic regression equation, it was found that the odds ratio values for these factors were all >1, which indicated that they had an influence on maternal depression in primiparas with hypothyroidism during pregnancy. This study demonstrated that pregnancy-associated hypothyroidism in primiparas is affected by age, education level, economic income, sleep quality, and conjugal relations, all of which increase the incidence of depression. Relevant preventive measures should be provided in clinical practice to avoid the occurrence of depression.

To explore the application effect of high-quality nursing quality control in disinfection supply center. The control group consisted of 1850 medical devices managed using the conventional quality control mode from January 2021 to December 2021, while the observation group consisted of 1900 medical devices managed using the high-quality nursing quality control mode from January 2022 to December 2022. The qualified rates of equipment cleaning, sterilization, and packaging were analyzed in both the observation and control groups. The occurrence of nosocomial infections in 2021 and 2022 were compared, and the changes in the Beck-Srivaatava stress scale index (BSSI) and Symptom Checklist-90 scores of the staff before and after implementing the high-quality nursing quality control mode were analyzed. The qualified rate of equipment cleaning, sterilization, and packaging in the observation group were 99.08%, 99.73%, and 99.78%, respectively, which were significantly higher than those in the control group (P< .05). The incidence of nosocomial infections in interventional and surgical cases in 2022 was 0.79%, which was significantly lower than that in 2021 (P< .05). The BSSI score of female staff was (68.76 ± 7.81) points, which was higher than that of male staff (P< .05). After the implementation of the high-quality nursing quality control mode, the BSSI score of the staff was (47.76 ± 9.12) points, which was significantly lower than that before implementation (P< .05). After the implementation of the high-quality nursing quality control mode, the staff’s Symptom Checklist-90 scores for somatization, compulsion, interpersonal sensitivity, depression, hostility, and paranoia were (1.28 ± 0.29), (1.53 ± 0.24), (1.50 ± 0.21), (1.46 ± 0.32), (1.44 ± 0.26), and (1.38 ± 0.30) points, respectively, showing a decrease compared to before implementation (P< .05). The high-quality nursing quality control mode has great application value in the disinfection supply center. It can effectively improve the qualified rates of equipment cleaning, sterilization, and packaging, prevent nosocomial infections and improve the working pressure and psychological health of staff.
