Background: Surgical treatment for cervical cancer, as a stressor, largely leads to strong psychological reactions to stress like anxiety and depression. Whether mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) can alleviate anxiety and depression in patients after cervical cancer surgery is controversial. Therefore, we aim to perform a meta-analysis involving randomized controlled trials analyzing the effect of MBSR on alleviating anxiety and depression in patients after cervical cancer surgery, thus providing evidence-based medical evidences for nonpharmacological interventions. Methods: Randomized controlled trials analyzing the effect of MBSR on alleviating anxiety and depression in patients after cervical cancer surgery will be searched in online databases, including Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials Repositories, PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Chinese Science Citation Database, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, Chinese Scientific Journal Database, and Wan Fang Data. After screening eligible studies, we will perform a meta-analysis on the effect of MBSR on alleviating anxiety and depression in patients after cervical cancer surgery. Results: The results of this meta-analysis will be submitted to a peer-reviewed journal for publication. Conclusion: This study will provide reliable evidence-based evidences for the effects of MBSR on alleviating anxiety and depression in patients after cervical cancer surgery. Ethics and dissemination: Ethical approval was not required for this study. Torque control of maxillary incisors is very important in maxillary protrusion patients with first premolars extraction, but the efficacy of maxillary incisor retraction of clear aligners is still controversial now. This retrospective study was aimed to compare the retraction effects between Damon Q and Invisalign® appliances in patients with first premolar extractions. 59 patients (33 cases with Damon Q and 26 cases with Invisalign®) with first premolar extraction were selected in this study. Subsequently, patients of each group were allocated into three subgroups according to the pretreatment value of U1-NA (°). The retraction effects of maxillary incisors and upper lips were accessed by the variations of cephalometric, overbite and overjet measurements. Treatment duration with Invisalign® (31.4 ± 6.4 months) was longer than Damon Q (27.7 ± 6.3 months) (P = .03). The angular measurements, U1-NA (°) and U1-SN (°) showed more lingual crown inclinations in Invisalign® group than Damon Q group (P ≤ .04). When evaluating linear measurements, the retractions of the maxillary incisors and upper lip positions showed no significant differences (P ≥ .13). Invisalign® group also showed more lingual crown retractions and labial root deviations compared to Damon Q group in subgroup Ⅲ (P ≤ .037). As regards to the molar relationship, Invisalign® displayed less Class Ⅰ molar relationship than Damon Q group. The increased overbite of anterior incisors was also showed in the Invisalign® treatment group (P ≤ .047). Invisalign® was not sufficiently effective in retracting maxillary incisors compared with Damon Q appliances. Invisalign® led to more lingual inclination movement and increased overbite.

Accumulated studies revealed that electromagnetic field can affect human brain and sleep. We explored the effectiveness of electromagnetic field [Schumann resonance (SR)] on nocturia symptoms, quality of life, and sleep in patients with nocturia.This is a randomized, open-label, and active-controlled study, in which 35 participants were randomized into 2 groups. Group A received oxybutynin and the SR device for 12 weeks, while the active-control group received only the medication. We followed these patients every 4 weeks with a number of questionnaires, including the Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI) and Epworth sleepiness scale (ESS) for sleep, the American Urological Association Symptom Score (AUASS) for nocturia symptoms, and the Nocturia-Quality-of-Life-questionnaire (N-QOL) for quality of life. Descriptive statistics, pair t-tests, Chi-squared tests, and repeated measures were applied for data analysis.No significant difference was found in the demographic data between the 2 groups. The AUASS, N-QOL, PSQI, and ESS total scores were significantly improved in the SR-sleep-device group (P.001, P = .005, P.001, P = .001) after treatment, but no significant change was found in the active-control group. Several variables of AUASS in the SR-sleep-device group were significantly improved, especially streaming and sleeping (both P = .001), and subjective sleep quality and sleep efficiency also demonstrated significant improvement (both P.001).Our study revealed that electromagnetic field (SR) as an add-on can improve not only sleep and quality of life but also nocturia symptoms in patients with nocturia. These findings suggest that SR can be effective for sleep disturbance secondary to physical disease, which can be a new application of the electromagnetic field.

Hyperimmunoglobulin E syndromes (HIES) are rare primary immunodeficiency diseases characterized by markedly elevated serum immunoglobulin (Ig) E, recurrent pneumonia, and chronic eczema. To date, information about pediatric HIES is limited. We aimed to evaluate the spectrum of clinical and immunological features in pediatric patients with HIES in China. We retrospectively reviewed the cases of 4 pediatric patients with HIES followed at the Guangzhou Women and Children's Medical Center from May 2013 to September 2017. We analyzed clinical presentation, laboratory data, immunological evaluations, imagenological characteristics, treatment, response to therapy, genetic and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) findings, and prognosis. The common clinical features of the patients were recurrent respiratory and mucocutaneous infections and eczematoid skin lesions. In 3 of 4 patients, BALF and transbronchial lung biopsy (TBLB) demonstrated fungal pneumonia with organisms including invasive Aspergillus and Penicillium marneffei. Elevated serum IgG and IgM were detected in 3 and 2 cases, respectively, while CD4+ T and CD19+ B cells were slightly reduced in only 1 patient. Nitroblue tetrazolium tests (NBTs) were normal in all patients, and reduced natural killer cell counts were identified in 3 patients. A novel missense mutation in exon 17 (c.1593A>T, p.K531N) was identified in the signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) gene that has not been reported previously. One patient had 3 homozygous nonsynonymous variations of the complement receptor 2 (CR2) gene distributed in exons 10 (c.1916G>A, p.S639N) and 11 (c.1987T>C, p.S663P and c.2012G>A, p.R671H) with high frequency. This case series suggests that fungi are important respiratory pathogens in children with HIES and should be considered in cases of pneumonia in this population. The NIH scoring system does not allow diagnostic certainty, particularly in infants, because some of the common manifestations of HIES may not develop until the patient matures. Pulmonary complications must be identified in the early stage of the disease to treat them effectively. In addition, we report a mutation in STAT3 that has not been identified previously.

Radiotherapy (RT) is useful in managing cancer diseases. In clinical practice, early initiation of RT is crucial for enhancing tumor control. But, delivering precise RT requires a series of pre-RT working processes in a tight staff-cooperation manner. In this regard, using information system to conduct e-control and e-alerts has been suggested to improve practice effectiveness; however, this effect is not well defined in a real-world RT setting. We designed an information system to perform e-control and e-alerts for the whole process of pre-RT workflow to shorten processing time, to improve overall staff satisfaction, and to enhance working confidence. A quality-improving study conducted in a large RT center. Externally validated data were retrospectively analyzed for comparison before (from Sep. 2012 to Dec. 2012, n = 223) and after (from Sep. 2013 to Dec. 2013, n = 240) implementation of pre-RT e-control and e-alerts. Applying the e-control with delay-working e-alerts in pre-RT workflow was the main intervention. Nine workstations were identified in pre-RT workflow. The primary outcome measure was the processing time in each pre-RT workstations before and after implementing the e-control and e-alerts. Secondary measures were staff-working confidence and near-missing cases during the process of pre-RT workflow. Background: Frequent multidisciplinary communication is essential in conducting daily radiotherapy (RT) practice. However, traditional oral or paper-based communication has limitations. E-communication has been suggested, but its effects are still not well demarcated in the field of radiation oncology. Objects: In our web-based integrated information platform, we constructed a ping-pong-type e-communication function to transfer specific notations among multidisciplinary RT staffs. The purpose was to test whether applying this e-communication can increase effectiveness of multidisciplinary cooperation when compared with oral or paper-based practice. Staff satisfaction and clinical benefits were also demonstrated. Design and setting: A real-world quality-improving study was conducted in a large center of radiation oncology. Participants and dataset used: Before and after applying multidisciplinary e-communication (from 2014 to 2015), clinical RT staffs were surveyed for their user experience and satisfaction (n = 23). For measuring clinical effectiveness, a secondary database of irradiated head and neck cancer patients was re-analyzed for comparing RT toxicities (n = 402). Interventions: Applying ping-pong-type multidisciplinary reflective e-communication was the main intervention. Outcome measures: For measuring staff satisfaction, eight domains were surveyed, such as timeliness, convenience, and completeness. For measuring clinical effectiveness of multidisciplinary cooperation, event rates of severe (i.e., grade 3–4) RT mucositis and dermatitis were recorded. The aim of our study is to detect anti-3-hydroxy 3-methylutaryl coenzyme A reductase (anti-HMGCR) antibody using novel unlabeled immunoprecipitation (IP) assay and immunoblotting in Chinese patients with myositis and to clarify the features of anti-HMGCR-positive patients. In the present study, we established novel unlabeled IP assay and immunoblotting of HMGCR C-terminus for anti-HMGCR detection. The presence of anti-HMGCR was screened in 181 Chinese patients with myositis. The sera from 12 of 181 patients were positive for anti-HMGCR. The prevalence of anti-HMGCR autoantibody in our cohorts is about 6.6%. Unexpected, coexistence of anti-HMGCR and anti-melanoma differentiation-associated protein (anti-MDA5) were identified in 4 patients with characteristic rash and interstitial lung disease (ILD), but without myasthenia and elevated serum creatine kinase (CK) levels.
