A study conducted at AHEPA University Hospital in Thessaloniki, Greece, examined the frequency of papillary thyroid microcarcinomas (PTMC) in patients who underwent total thyroidectomy for benign indications. The study found that PTMC, often multifocal, is not uncommon and is frequently diagnosed incidentally after thyroidectomy.
