This article presents information about the "Morning Herald" newspaper in London and the story of its editors Reverend Henry Bate, Alexander Chalmers and Charles Newby. As a West End paper providing coverage of domestic and foreign news, theatre news, parliamentary debates, and a healthy dose of gossip and scandal, the "Morning Herald" was a successful paper that remained in circulation until 1869. The coverage of the Parliamentary proceedings distinguished the "Morning Herald" as one of the first newspapers to give liberal space for the reporting of Parliament. The letter in the newspaper was written by Bate that leads to his imprisonment at the King's Bench Prison and his editorial responsibilities was turned over to Alexander Chalmers. Bate's retirement as an editor made lots of controversy over the rival newspaper at the time.
