The half-normal distribution is composited with the Pareto model to obtain a uni-parametric distribution with a heavy right tail, called the composite half-normal-Pareto distribution. This new distribution is useful for modeling positive data with atypical observations. We study the properties and the behavior of the right tail of this new distribution. We estimate the parameter using a method based on percentiles and the maximum likelihood method and assess the performance of the maximum likelihood estimator using Monte Carlo. We report three applications, one with simulated data and the others with income and expenditure data, in which the new distribution presents better performance than the Pareto distribution. The present study aims at investigating some characterizations of a new subclass G α (μ , τ) and obtaining the bounds on the first two Taylor–Maclaurin coefficients for functions belonging to the newly introduced subclass. In order to achieve this, a compound function L x , n σ (z) is derived from the convolution of the analytic function f (z) and a modified exponential Pareto distribution G (x) in conjunction with the famous Libera integral operator L (ζ) . As the most commonly used attack strategy by Botnets, the Domain Generation Algorithm (DGA) has strong invisibility and variability. Using deep learning models to detect different families of DGA domain names can improve the network defense ability against hackers. However, this task faces an extremely imbalanced sample size among different DGA categories, which leads to low classification accuracy for small sample categories and even classification failure for some categories. To address this issue, we introduce the long-tailed concept and augment the data of small sample categories by transferring pre-trained knowledge. Firstly, we propose the Data Balanced Review Method (DBRM) to reduce the sample size difference between the categories, thus a relatively balanced dataset for transfer learning is generated. Secondly, we propose the Knowledge Transfer Model (KTM) to enhance the knowledge of the small sample categories. KTM uses a multi-stage transfer to transfer weights from the big sample categories to the small sample categories. Furthermore, we propose the Knowledge Distillation Transfer Model (KDTM) to relieve the catastrophic forgetting problem caused by transfer learning, which adds knowledge distillation loss based on the KTM. The experimental results show that KDTM can significantly improve the classification performance of all categories, especially the small sample categories. A generalized multinomial logit (G-MNL) model is proposed to alleviate the four challenges inherent to the conditional logit model, including (1) simultaneous unidentifiability, (2) the immediacy of decision-making, (3) the homogeneity of preferences in unobservable variables, and (4) the independence of irrelevant alternatives. However, the G-MNL model has some restrictions that are caused by the assumed logit scale of the lognormal distribution used in the G-MNL model. We propose a mixed logit with integrated Pareto-distributed scale (MIXL-iPS) model to address the restriction of the G-MNL model by introducing a logit scale in accordance with the Pareto distribution type I with an expected value of 1. We have clarified the mathematical properties and examined the distributional properties of the novel MIXL-iPS model. The results suggest that the MIXL-iPS model is a model in which the instability in the estimation of the G-MNL model is modified. Moreover, the apparent preference parameter was confirmed to have a skewed distribution in general in the MIXL-iPS model. The digitalization of bank data and financial operations creates a large risk of loss. Losses due to the risk of errors in the bank's digital system need to be mitigated through the readiness of reserve funds. The determination of reserve funds needs to be optimized so that there is no large excess of reserve funds. Then the rest of the reserve fund allocation can be used as an investment fund by the bank to obtain additional returns or profits. This study aims to optimize the reserve fund allocation for digital banking transactions. In this case, the decision variable is value reserved based on potential loss of each digital banking, and the objective function is defined as minimizing reserve fund allocation. Furthermore, some conditions that become limitation are rules of Basel II, Basel III, and Article 71 paragraph 1 of the Limited Liability Company Law. Since the objective function can be expressed as a linear function, in this paper, linear programming optimization approach is thus employed considering Extreme Value-at-Risk (EVaR) constraints. In the use of EVaR approach in the digital banking problem, it is found that the loss meets the criteria of extreme data based on the Generalized Pareto Distribution (GPD). The strength of reserve funds using linear programming optimization with EVaR constraints is the consideration of potential losses from digital banking risks that are minimized so that the allocation of company funds becomes optimum. While the determination of reserve funds with a standard approach only considers historical profit data, this can result in excessive reserve funds because they are not considered potential risks in the future period. For the numerical experiment, the following risk data are used in the modeling, i.e., the result of a sample simulation of digital banking losses due to the risk of system downtime, system timeout, external failure, and operational user failure. Therefore, the optimization model with EVaR constraints produces an optimal reserve fund value, so that the allocation of bank reserve funds becomes efficient. Income distribution models can be useful for describing the economic properties of a population. In this study, three-part composite Pareto models are fitted to the income distribution in Malaysia for the years 2007, 2009, 2012, 2014, and 2016. The three-part composite Pareto models divide the population into three parts, each following a different distribution model. The lower part follows the inverse Pareto distribution, the upper part follows the Pareto distribution, and the middle part follows another unspecified distribution model. For application in income data, the use of Gaussian mixture distribution is proposed for the middle part, making the inverse Pareto–Gaussian mixture-Pareto distribution model semi-parametric. From the model, it is found that the levels of income inequality in the lower and upper income groups decrease over the period of study. The Devylder–Goovaerts conjecture is probably the oldest conjecture in actuarial mathematics and has received a lot of attention in recent years. It claims that ruin with equalized claim amounts is always less likely than in the classical model. Investigating the validity of this conjecture is important both from a theoretical aspect and a practical point of view, as it suggests that one always underestimates the risk of insolvency by replacing claim amounts with the average claim amount a posteriori. We first state a simplified version of the conjecture in the discrete-time risk model when one equalizes aggregate claim amounts and prove that it holds. We then use properties of the Pareto distribution in risk theory and other ideas to target candidate counterexamples and provide several counterexamples to the original Devylder–Goovaerts conjecture. Estimation based on probability-weighted moments is a well-established method and an excellent alternative to the classic method of moments or the maximum likelihood method, especially for small sample sizes. In this research, we developed a new class of estimators for the parameters of the Pareto type I distribution. A generalization of the probability-weighted moments approach is the foundation for this new class of estimators. It has the advantage of being valid in the entire parameter space of the Pareto distribution. We established the asymptotic normality of the new estimators and applied them to simulated and real datasets in order to illustrate their finite sample behavior. Probability-based distributions might be able to explain risk exposure well. Usually, one number, or at the very least, a limited number of numbers called the key risk indicators (KRIs), are used to describe the level of risk exposure. These risk exposure values, which are undeniably the outcome of a specific model, are frequently referred to as essential critical risk indicators. Five key risk indicators, including value-at-risk, tail variance, tail-value-at-risk, and tail mean-variance, were also used for describing the risk exposure under the reinsurance revenues data. These measurements were created for the proposed model; hence, this paper presents a novel distribution for this purpose. Relevant statistical properties are derived, including the generating function, ordinary moments, and incomplete moments. Special attention is devoted to the applicability of the new model under extreme data sets. Three applications to real data show the usefulness and adaptability of the proposed model. The new model proved its superiority against many well-known related models. Five key risk indicators are employed for analyzing the risk level under the reinsurance revenues dataset. In this research, a single-server M-class retrial queueing system (orbit queue) with constant retrial rates and Poisson inputs is considered. The main purpose is to construct the upper and lower bounds of the stationary workload in this system expressed via the stationary workloads in the classical M / G / 1 systems where the service time has M-component mixture distributions. The convergence rate in the famous Rényi theorem is studied by means of the Stein method refinement. Namely, it is demonstrated that the new estimate of the convergence rate of the normalized geometric sums to exponential law involving the ideal probability metric of the second order is sharp. Some recent results concerning the convergence rates in Kolmogorov and Kantorovich metrics are extended as well. In contrast to many previous works, there are no assumptions that the summands of geometric sums are positive and have the same distribution. For the first time, an analogue of the Rényi theorem is established for the model of exchangeable random variables. Also within this model, a sharp estimate of convergence rate to a specified mixture of distributions is provided. The convergence rate of the appropriately normalized random sums of random summands to the generalized gamma distribution is estimated. Here, the number of summands follows the generalized negative binomial law. The sharp estimates of the proximity of random sums of random summands distributions to the limit law are established for independent summands and for the model of exchangeable ones. The inverse to the equilibrium transformation of the probability measures is introduced, and in this way a new approximation of the Pareto distributions by exponential laws is proposed. In this paper, we propose a general class of bivariate proportional hazard distributions, which is based on the family of asymmetric proportional hazard distributions and the bivariate Pareto copula. Distributional properties of the bivariate proportional hazard distribution are derived. We specialize the bivariate proportional hazard family of distributions to the normal case, and so we introduce the bivariate proportional hazard normal distribution. Parameter estimation by the maximum likelihood method of the bivariate proportional hazard normal distribution is then discussed. The extreme value theory is widely used in economic and environmental domains, it aims to study the stochastic extreme behaviors associated with rare events. In this context, we consider a new mixture model for extremal events analysis, including a Dirichlet process mixture of Weibull (DPMW) distribution below the threshold and the point process (PP) extreme model for the upper tail. This model developed a regression structure for the PP extreme model parameters, which explains the variation of the exceedance through all tail parameters. The estimation of the model parameters is performed under the Bayesian paradigm, applying the Markov chains Monte Carlo (MCMC) method. Multivariate modelling of economics data is crucial for risk and profit analyses in companies. However, for the final conclusions, a whole set of variables is usually transformed into a single variable describing a total profit/balance of company's cash flows. One of the possible transformations is based on the product of market variables. Thus, in this paper, we study the distribution of products of Pareto or Student's t random variables that are ubiquitous in various risk factors analysis. We review known formulas for the probability density functions and derive their explicit forms for the products of Pareto and Gaussian or log-normal random variables. We also study how the Pareto or Student's t random variable influences the asymptotic tail behaviour of the distribution of their product with the Gaussian or log-normal random variables and discuss how the dependency between the marginal random variables of the same type influences the probabilistic properties of the final product. The theoretical results are then applied for an analysis of the distribution of transaction values, being a product of prices and volumes, from a continuous trade on the German intraday electricity market. In this paper, we propose a new family of distributions, by exponentiating the random variables associated with the probability density functions of composite distributions. We also derive some mathematical properties of this new family of distributions, including the moments and the limited moments. Specifically, two special models in this family are discussed. Three real datasets were chosen, to assess the performance of these two special exponentiated-composite models. When fitting to these three datasets, these three special exponentiated-composite distributions demonstrate significantly better performance, compared to the original composite distributions. Air pollution is a major global problem, closely related to economic and social development and ecological environment construction. Air pollution data for most regions of China have a close correlation with time and seasons and are affected by multidimensional factors such as meteorology and air quality. In contrast with classical peaks-over-threshold modeling approaches, we use a deep learning technique and three new dynamic conditional generalized Pareto distribution (DCP) models with weather and air quality factors for fitting the time-dependence of the air pollutant concentration and make statistical inferences about their application in air quality analysis. Specifically, in the proposed three DCP models, a dynamic autoregressive exponential function mechanism is applied for the time-varying scale parameter and tail index of the conditional generalized Pareto distribution, and a sufficiently high threshold is chosen using two threshold selection procedures. The probabilistic properties of the DCP model and the statistical properties of the maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) are investigated, simulating and showing the stability and sensitivity of the MLE estimations. The three proposed models are applied to fit the PM 2.5 time series in Beijing from 2015 to 2021. Real data are used to illustrate the advantages of the DCP, especially compared to the estimation volatility of GARCH and AIC or BIC criteria. The DCP model involving both the mixed weather and air quality factors performs better than the other two models with weather factors or air quality factors alone. The process performance index (PPI) can be a simple metric to connect the conforming rate of products. The properties of the PPI have been well studied for the normal distribution and other widely used lifetime distributions, such as the Weibull, Gamma, and Pareto distributions. Assume that the quality characteristic of product follows power-normal distribution. Statistical inference procedures for the PPI are established. The maximum likelihood estimation method for the model parameters and PPI is investigated and the exact Fisher information matrix is derived. We discuss the drawbacks of using the exact Fisher information matrix to obtain the confidence interval of the model parameters. The parametric bootstrap percentile and bootstrap bias-corrected percentile methods are proposed to obtain approximate confidence intervals for the model parameters and PPI. This paper considers interval estimations for the mean of Pareto distribution with excess zeros. Three approaches for interval estimation are proposed based on fiducial generalized pivotal quantities (FGPQs), respectively. At present, iris recognition has been widely used as a biometrics-based security enhancement technology. However, in some application scenarios where a long-distance camera is used, due to the limitations of equipment and environment, the collected iris images cannot achieve the ideal image quality for recognition. To solve this problem, we proposed a modified sparrow search algorithm (SSA) called chaotic pareto sparrow search algorithm (CPSSA) in this paper. First, fractional-order chaos is introduced to enhance the diversity of the population of sparrows. Second, we introduce the Pareto distribution to modify the positions of finders and scroungers in the SSA. These can not only ensure global convergence, but also effectively avoid the local optimum issue. Third, based on the traditional contrast limited adaptive histogram equalization (CLAHE) method, CPSSA is used to find the best clipping limit value to limit the contrast. The standard deviation, edge content, and entropy are introduced into the fitness function to evaluate the enhancement effect of the iris image. The clipping values vary with the pictures, which can produce a better enhancement effect. The simulation results based on the 12 benchmark functions show that the proposed CPSSA is superior to the traditional SSA, particle swarm optimization algorithm (PSO), and artificial bee colony algorithm (ABC). Finally, CPSSA is applied to enhance the long-distance iris images to demonstrate its robustness. Experiment results show that CPSSA is more efficient for practical engineering applications. Superixel is one of the most efficient of the image segmentation approaches that are widely used for different applications. In this paper, we developed an image segmentation based on superpixel and an automatic clustering using q-Generalized Pareto distribution under linear normalization (q-GPDL), called ASCQPHGS. The proposed method uses the superpixel algorithm to segment the given image, then the Density Peaks clustering (DPC) is employed to the results obtained from the superpixel algorithm to produce a decision graph. The Hunger games search (HGS) algorithm is employed as a clustering method to segment the image. The proposed method is evaluated using two different datasets, collected form Berkeley segmentation dataset and benchmark (BSDS500) and standford background dataset (SBD). More so, the proposed method is compared to several methods to verify its performance and efficiency. In this article we give theoretical results for different stochastic orders of a log-scale-location family which uses Tsallis statistics functions. These results describe the inequalities of moments or Gini index according to parameters. We also compute the mean in the case of q-Weibull and q-Gaussian distributions. The paper is aimed at analyzing the order between survival functions, Lorenz curves and (as consequences) the moments together with the Gini index (respectively a generalized Gini index). A real data application is presented in the last section. This application uses only the survival function because the stochastic order implies the order of moments. Given some supplementary conditions, we prove that the stochastic order implies the Lorenz order in the log-scale-location model and this implies the order between Gini coefficients. The application uses the estimated parameters of a Pareto distribution computed from a real data set in a log-scale-location model, by specifying the Kolmogorov–Smirnov p-value. The examples presented in this application highlight the stochastic order between four models in several cases using survival functions. In reality, estimations for the unknown parameters of truncated distribution with censored data have wide utilization. Truncated normal distribution is more suitable to fit lifetime data compared with normal distribution. This article makes statistical inferences on estimating parameters under truncated normal distribution using adaptive progressive type II censored data. First, the estimates are calculated through exploiting maximum likelihood method. The observed and expected Fisher information matrices are derived to establish the asymptotic confidence intervals. Second, Bayesian estimations under three loss functions are also studied. The point estimates are calculated by Lindley approximation. Importance sampling technique is applied to discuss the Bayes estimates and build the associated highest posterior density credible intervals. Bootstrap confidence intervals are constructed for the purpose of comparison. Monte Carlo simulations and data analysis are employed to present the performances of various methods. A correlation analysis of pollutant variables provides comprehensive information on dependency behaviour and is thus useful in relating the risk and consequences of pollution events. However, common correlation measurements fail to capture the various properties of air pollution data, such as their non-normal distribution, heavy tails, and dynamic changes over time. Hence, they cannot generate highly accurate information. To overcome this issue, this study proposes a combination of the Generalized Autoregressive Conditional Heteroskedasticity model, Generalized Pareto distribution, and stochastic copulas as a tool to investigate the dependence structure between the PM10 variable and other pollutant variables, including CO, NO2, O3, and SO2. Results indicate that the dynamic dependence structure between PM10 and other pollutant variables can be described with a ranking of PM10–CO > PM10–SO2 > PM10–NO2 > PM10–O3 for the overall time paths (δ) and the upper tail (τU) or lower tail (τL) dependency measures. The motivation of mixing distributions in communication/queueing systems modeling is that some input data (e.g., service time in queueing models) may follow several distinct distributions in a single input flow. In this paper, we study the sensitivity of performance measures on proximity of the service time distributions of a multiserver system model with two-component Pareto mixture distribution of service times. In this paper, the reliability of a k-component system, in which all components are subject to common stress, is considered. The multicomponent system will continue to survive if at least s out of k components' strength exceed the common stress. The system reliability is investigated by utilizing the maximum likelihood estimator based on progressively type II censored samples from generalized Pareto distributions. The confidence interval of the system reliability can be obtained by using asymptotic normality with Fisher information matrix or bootstrap method approximation. An intensive simulation study is conducted to evaluate the performance of maximum likelihood estimators of the model parameters and system reliability for a variety of cases. For the confidence interval of the system reliability, simulation results indicate the bootstrap method approximation outperforms over the asymptotic normality approximation in terms of coverage probability. This paper is concerned with the maximum likelihood estimators of the Beta-Pareto distribution introduced in Akinsete et al. (2008), which comes from the mixing of two probability distributions, Beta and Pareto. Since these estimators cannot be obtained explicitly, we use nonlinear optimization methods that numerically provide these estimators. The methods we investigate are the method of Newton-Raphson, the gradient method and the conjugate gradient method. Note that for the conjugate gradient method we use the model of Fletcher-Reeves. The corresponding algorithms are developed and the performances of the methods used are confirmed by an important simulation study. In order to compare between several concurrent models, namely generalized Beta-Pareto, Beta, Pareto, Gamma and Beta-Pareto, model criteria selection are used. This paper analyzes the volatility dynamics in the financial markets of the (three) most powerful countries from a military perspective, namely, the U.S., Russia, and China, during the period 2015–2018 that corresponds to their intervention in the Syrian war. As far as we know, there is no literature studying this topic during such an important distress period, which has had very serious economic, social, and humanitarian consequences. The Generalized Autoregressive Conditional Heteroscedasticity (GARCH (1, 1)) model yielded the best volatility results for the in-sample period. The weighted historical simulation produced an accurate value at risk (VaR) for a period of one month at the three considered confidence levels. For the out-of-sample period, the Monte Carlo simulation method, based on student t-copula and peaks-over-threshold (POT) extreme value theory (EVT) under the Gaussian kernel and the generalized Pareto (GP) distribution, overstated the risk for the three countries. The comparison of the POT-EVT VaR of the three countries to a portfolio of stock indices pertaining to non-military countries, namely Finland, Sweden, and Ecuador, for the same out-of-sample period, revealed that the intervention in the Syrian war may be one of the pertinent reasons that significantly affected the volatility of the stock markets of the three most powerful military countries. Lévy flights is a random walk where the step-lengths have a probability distribution that is heavy-tailed. It has been shown that Lévy flights can maximize the efficiency of resource searching in uncertain environments and also the movements of many foragers and wandering animals have been shown to follow a Lévy distribution. The reason mainly comes from the fact that the Lévy distribution has an infinite second moment and hence is more likely to generate an offspring that is farther away from its parent. However, the investigation into the efficiency of other different heavy-tailed probability distributions in swarm-based searches is still insufficient up to now. For swarm-based search algorithms, randomness plays a significant role in both exploration and exploitation or diversification and intensification. Therefore, it is necessary to discuss the optimal randomness in swarm-based search algorithms. In this study, cuckoo search (CS) is taken as a representative method of swarm-based optimization algorithms, and the results can be generalized to other swarm-based search algorithms. In this paper, four different types of commonly used heavy-tailed distributions, including Mittag-Leffler distribution, Pareto distribution, Cauchy distribution, and Weibull distribution, are considered to enhance the searching ability of CS. Then four novel CS algorithms are proposed and experiments are carried out on 20 benchmark functions to compare their searching performances. Techniques used to analyze exceedances over a high threshold are in great demand for research in economics, environmental science, and other fields. The generalized Pareto distribution (GPD) has been widely used to fit observations exceeding the tail threshold in the peaks over threshold (POT) framework. Parameter estimation and threshold selection are two critical issues for threshold-based GPD inference. In this work, we propose a new GPD-based estimation approach by combining the method of moments and likelihood moment techniques based on the least squares concept, in which the shape and scale parameters of the GPD can be simultaneously estimated. To analyze extreme data, the proposed approach estimates the parameters by minimizing the sum of squared deviations between the theoretical GPD function and its expectation. Additionally, we introduce a recently developed stopping rule to choose the suitable threshold above which the GPD asymptotically fits the exceedances. Simulation studies show that the proposed approach performs better or similar to existing approaches, in terms of bias and the mean square error, in estimating the shape parameter. In addition, the performance of three threshold selection procedures is assessed by estimating the value-at-risk (VaR) of the GPD. Finally, we illustrate the utilization of the proposed method by analyzing air pollution data. In this analysis, we also provide a detailed guide regarding threshold selection. In this paper, first we consider the maximum likelihood estimators for two unknown parameters, reliability and hazard functions of the generalized Pareto distribution under progressively Type II censored sample. Next, we discuss the asymptotic confidence intervals for two unknown parameters, reliability and hazard functions by using the delta method. Then, based on the bootstrap algorithm, we obtain another two pairs of approximate confidence intervals. Furthermore, by applying the Markov Chain Monte Carlo techniques, we derive the Bayesian estimates of the two unknown parameters, reliability and hazard functions under various balanced loss functions and the corresponding confidence intervals.
