The appearance quality of fair-faced concrete plays a crucial role in evaluating the engineering quality, as the abundance of small-area bubbles generated during construction diminishes the surface quality of concrete. However, existing methods are plagued by sluggish detection speed and inadequate accuracy. Therefore, this paper proposes an improved method based on YOLOv5 to rapidly and accurately detect small bubble defects on the surface of fair-faced concrete. Firstly, to address the issue of YOLOv5 in generating prior boxes for imbalanced samples, we divide the image preprocessing part into small-, medium-, and large-area intervals corresponding to the number of heads. Additionally, we propose an area-based k-means clustering approach specifically tailored for the anchor boxes within each of these intervals. Moreover, we adjust the number of prior boxes generated by k-means clustering according to the training loss function to adapt to bubbles of different sizes. Then, we introduce the ECA (Efficient Channel Attention) mechanism into the neck part of the model to effectively capture inter-channel interactions and enhance feature representation. Subsequently, we incorporate feature concatenation in the neck part to facilitate the fusion of low-level and high-level features, thereby improving the accuracy and generalization ability of the network. Finally, we construct our own dataset containing 980 images of two classes: cement and bubbles. Comparative experiments are conducted on our dataset using YOLOv5s, YOLOv6s, YOLOxs, and our method. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method achieves the highest detection accuracy in terms of mAP0.5, mAP0.75, and mAP0.5:0.95. This study proposes a novel integration of the Extreme Gradient Boosting Machine (XGBoost) and Differential Flower Pollination (DFP) for constructing an intelligent method to predict the compressive strength (CS) of high-performance concrete (HPC) mixes. The former is employed to generalize a mapping function between the mechanical property of concrete and its influencing factors. DFP, as a metaheuristic algorithm, is employed to optimize the learning phase of XGBoost and reach a fine balance between the two goals of model building: reducing the prediction error and maximizing the generalization capability. To construct the proposed method, a historical dataset consisting of 400 samples was collected from previous studies. The model's performance is reliably assessed via multiple experiments and Wilcoxon signed-rank tests. The hybrid DFP-XGBoost is able to achieve good predictive outcomes with a root mean square error of 5.27, a mean absolute percentage error of 6.74%, and a coefficient of determination of 0.94. Additionally, quantile regression based on XGBoost is performed to construct interval predictions of the CS of HPC. Notably, an asymmetric error loss is used to diminish overestimations committed by the model. It was found that this loss function successfully reduced the percentage of overestimated CS values from 47.1% to 27.5%. The accurate and efficient inversion of permeability coefficients is significant for the scientific assessment of seepage safety in concrete face rockfill dams. In addressing the optimization challenge of permeability coefficients with few samples, multiple parameters, and strong nonlinearity, this paper proposes a novel intelligent inversion method based on the Sobol-IDBO-SVR fusion surrogate model. Firstly, the Sobol sequence sampling method is introduced to extract high-quality combined samples of permeability coefficients, and the equivalent continuum seepage model is utilized for the forward simulation to obtain the theoretical hydraulic heads at the seepage monitoring points. Subsequently, the support vector regression surrogate model is used to establish the complex mapping relationship between the permeability coefficients and hydraulic heads, and the convergence performance of the dung beetle optimization algorithm is effectively enhanced by fusing multiple strategies. On this basis, we successfully achieve the precise inversion of permeability coefficients driven by multi-intelligence technologies. The engineering application results show that the permeability coefficients determined based on the inversion of the Sobol-IDBO-SVR model can reasonably reflect the seepage characteristics of the concrete face rockfill dam. The maximum relative error between the measured and the inversion values of the hydraulic heads at each monitoring point is only 0.63%, indicating that the inversion accuracy meets the engineering requirements. In this paper, we study spectral properties of non-self-adjoint operators with the discrete spectrum. The main challenge is to represent a complete description of belonging to the Schatten class through the properties of the Hermitian real component. The method of estimating the singular values is elaborated by virtue of the established asymptotic formulas. The latter fundamental result is advantageous since, of many theoretical statements based upon it, one of them is a concept on the root vectors series expansion, which leads to a wide spectrum of applications in the theory of evolution equations. In this regard, the evolution equations of fractional order with the sectorial operator in the term not containing the time variable are involved. To promote sustainable growth and minimize the greenhouse effect, rice husk fly ash can be used instead of a certain amount of cement. The research models the effects of using rice fly ash as a substitute for regular Portland cement on the compressive strength of concrete. In this study, different machine-learning techniques are investigated and a procedure to determine the optimal model is provided. A database of 909 analyzed samples forms the basis for creating forecast models. The derived models are assessed using the accuracy criteria RMSE, MAE, MAPE, and R. The research shows that artificial intelligence techniques can be used to model the compressive strength of concrete with acceptable accuracy. The ready-mixed concrete delivery (RMC) problem is a scheduling problem, where multiple trucks deliver concrete to order sites abiding by hard constraints in a dynamic environment. It is an NP-hard problem, impractical to solve using exhaustive methods. Thus, it requires heuristic-based approaches for generating sub-optimal schedules. Due to its distributed nature, we address this problem using a decentralised, scalable, cooperative MAS (multiagent system) that dynamically generates schedules. We explore the impact of teamwork by trucks on schedule optimisation. This work illustrates two novel approaches that address the dynamic RMC problem; a Delegate MAS approach and a team-extended approach. We present an empirical study, comparing our novel approaches with existing ones. The evaluation is performed by classifying the RMC case study scenarios into unique stress, scale, and dynamism characteristics. With 40% to 70% improvement over different metrics, the results show that both approaches generate better schedules, and using agent teams augments the performance. Thus, such decentralized MAS with the appropriate coordination approach and teamwork can be used for solving constrained dynamic scheduling problems. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The expected lifespan of cement-based materials, particularly concrete, is at least 50 years. Changes in the pore structure of the material need to be considered due to external influences and associated transport processes. The expansion behaviour of concrete and mortar during freeze–thaw attacks, combined with de-icing salt agents, is crucial for both internal and external damage. It is essential to determine and simulate the expansion behaviour of these materials in the laboratory, as well as detect the slow, long-term expansion in real structures. This study measures the expansion of mortar samples during freeze–thaw loading using a high-resolution hand-held 3D laser scanner. The specimens are prepared with fully or partially saturated pore structures through water storage or drying. During freeze–thaw experiments, the specimens are exposed to pure water or a 3% sodium chloride solution (NaCl). Results show contraction during freezing and subsequent expansion during thawing. Both test solutions exhibit similar expansion behaviour, with differences primarily due to saturation levels. Further investigations are required to explore the changing expansion behaviour caused by increasing microcracking resulting from continuous freeze–thaw cycles. A numerical analysis using a 3D coupled hygro-thermo-mechanical (HTM) model is conducted to examine the freeze–thaw behaviour of the mortar. In Singapore, there is an increasing need for independence from manpower within the Building and Construction (B&C) Industry. Prefabricated Prefinished Volumetric Construction (PPVC) production is mainly driven by benefits in environmental pollution reduction, improved productivity, quality control, and customizability. However, overall cost savings have been counterbalanced by new cost drivers like modular precast moulds, transportation, hoisting, manufacturing & holding yards, and supervision costs. The highly modular requirements for PPVC places additive manufacturing in an advantageous position, due to its high customizability, low volume manufacturing capabilities for a faster manufacturing response time, faster production changeovers, and lower inventory requirements. However, C3DP has only just begun to move away from its early-stage development, where there is a need to closely evaluate the process parameters across buildability, extrudability, and pumpability aspects. As many parameters have been identified as having considerable influence on C3DP processes, monitoring systems for feedback applications seem to be an inevitable step forward to automation in construction. This paper has presented a broad analysis of the challenges posed to C3DP and feedback systems, stressing the admission of process parameters to correct multiple modes of failure. The concrete strength criterion is the basis of strength analysis and evaluation under a complex stress state. In this paper, a large number of multiaxial strength tests were carried out, and many mathematical expressions of strength criteria were proposed based on the geometric characteristics and the assumption of a convex function. However, the rationality of the assumption of a convex function limits the use of these strength criteria. In particular, misjudgment will occur near the failure curve surface. Therefore, this paper does not assume the shape function of the criterion in advance. By collecting experimental data and using a machine learning method, it proposes a method of hidden function of failure curve surface. Based on 777 groups of experimental data, the random forest (RF), the back propagation neural network (BP) and the radial basis neural network (RBF) models were used to analyze and verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the method. Subsequently, the results were compared with the Ottosen strength criterion, the Guo Wang strength criterion and the Drucker–Prager (DP) strength criterion. The results show that the consistency between the strength criterion model established by the machine learning algorithm (especially random forest) and the experimental data is higher than the convex function multiaxis strength criterion of the preset failure surface shape. Moreover, the physical significance is clearer, the deficiency of the convex function failure surface hypothesis is avoided and the established multiaxial strength criterion of concrete is more universal. The composition of self-compacting concrete (SCC) contains 60–70% coarse and fine aggregates, which are replaced by construction waste, such as recycled aggregates (RA). However, the complexity of its structure requires a time-consuming mixed design. Currently, many researchers are studying the prediction of concrete properties using soft computing techniques, which will eventually reduce environmental degradation and other material waste. There have been very limited and contradicting studies regarding prediction using different ANN algorithms. This paper aimed to predict the 28-day splitting tensile strength of SCC with RA using the artificial neural network technique by comparing the following algorithms: Levenberg–Marquardt (LM), Bayesian regularization (BR), and Scaled Conjugate Gradient Backpropagation (SCGB). There have been very limited and contradicting studies regarding prediction by using and comparing different ANN algorithms, so a total of 381 samples were collected from various published journals. The input variables were cement, admixture, water, fine and coarse aggregates, and superplasticizer; the data were randomly divided into three sets—training (60%), validation (10%), and testing (30%)—with 10 neurons in the hidden layer. The models were evaluated by the mean squared error (MSE) and correlation coefficient (R). The results indicated that all three models have optimal accuracy; still, BR gave the best performance (R = 0.91 and MSE = 0.2087) compared with LM and SCG. BR was the best model for predicting TS at 28 days for SCC with RA. The sensitivity analysis indicated that cement (30.07%) was the variable that contributed the most to the prediction of TS at 28 days for SCC with RA, and water (2.39%) contributed the least. A concrete structure built on rock foundation works together with the connected rock mass, which has a significant effect on the mechanical behaviors of the concrete structure. To study the effect of lithology on the mechanical and damage behaviors of concrete in a concrete-rock combined specimen (CRCS), first, a test method for measuring the concrete part (concrete in CRCS) is adopted, then, uniaxial compression tests on seven types of specimens are performed and acoustic emission (AE) events are simultaneously monitored. Test results show that the low-strength concrete part plays a major role in the fracture behavior of CRCS. When the CRCS is failed, a sudden stress drop happens in CRCS, and the rock part (rock in CRCS) experiences a rapid axial strain recovery and intensifies the failure of the concrete part. The load-bearing and deformation capacities of the concrete part increase with the strength of the rock part, but the rock part shows the opposite behaviors under the influence of the concrete part. Furthermore, the damage of CRCS is mainly formed in the concrete part, and the damage extent of the concrete part is positively correlated with the strength of the rock part. Finally, a damage constitutive model of the concrete part is established and validated. Reinforced concrete structures are typically exposed to a combination of aggressive substances and mechanical stresses, which contribute to fast degradation. The present research was conducted to evaluate five time-dependent parameters from several different tests, namely compressive strength, static modulus, dynamic modulus, surface, and bulk electrical resistance. Some parameters were obtained using destructive testing (DT) and some using non-destructive testing (NDT). Due to the correlation and calculation of regression curves, it was possible to compare the correlation of parameters important for estimating the durability of reinforced concrete structures in relation to degradation and corrosion. Concrete of C40/50 grade was examined in several time periods, and the parameter relationships were analysed. At the same time, a statistical evaluation was carried out, and therefore the study contains the average values and standard deviations of all measured parameters. The results show that the compressive strength and the electrical resistivity of the surface and bulk have a high correlation. In contrast, the dynamic modulus and electrical resistivity have low linear correlation, but it was possible to apply a quadratic curve with a high degree of fit. For the comparison of static elastic modulus and electrical resistance, the quality of the quadratic regression model was low but sufficient. The paper studies the vibration behavior of a concrete structure, currently used in civil engineering. The truss structure considered has symmetries that can be used to facilitate both the design and construction of the building. Moreover, the symmetries encountered can be used to simplify the calculation of vibrations of the system. Based on the mechanical model built, eigenvalues and eigenvectors of such mechanical system are determined, and properties, specific to these symmetries, are identified.
