In this paper, a single-species population model with distributed delay and Michaelis-Menten type harvesting is established. Through an appropriate transformation, the mathematical model is converted into a two-dimensional system. Applying qualitative theory of ordinary differential equations, we obtain sufficient conditions for the stability of the equilibria of this system under three cases. The equilibrium A1 of system is globally asymptotically stable when br−c&gt, 0 and η&lt, 0. Using Poincare-Bendixson theorem, we determine the existence and stability of limit cycle when br−c&gt, 0 and η&gt, 0. By computing Lyapunov number, we obtain that a supercritical Hopf bifurcation occurs when η passes through 0. High order singularity of the system, such as saddle node, degenerate critical point, unstable node, saddle point, etc, is studied by the theory of ordinary differential equations. Numerical simulations are provided to verify our main results in this paper.

In this paper, we study the recently proposed fractional-order operators with general analytic kernels. The kernel of these operators is a locally uniformly convergent power series that can be chosen adequately to obtain a family of fractional operators and, in particular, the main existing fractional derivatives. Based on the conditions for the Laplace transform of these operators, in this paper, some new results are obtained—for example, relationships between Riemann–Liouville and Caputo derivatives and inverse operators. Later, employing a representation for the product of two functions, we determine a form of calculating its fractional derivative, this result is essential due to its connection to the fractional derivative of Lyapunov functions. In addition, some other new results are developed, leading to Lyapunov-like theorems and a Lyapunov direct method that serves to prove asymptotic stability in the sense of the operators with general analytic kernels. The FOB-stability concept is introduced, which generalizes the classical Mittag–Leffler stability for a wide class of systems. Some inequalities are established for operators with general analytic kernels, which generalize others in the literature. Finally, some new stability results via convex Lyapunov functions are presented, whose importance lies in avoiding the calculation of fractional derivatives for the stability analysis of dynamical systems. Some illustrative examples are given.

In this paper, we study 3-dimensional compact and connected trans-Sasakian manifolds and find necessary and sufficient conditions under which these manifolds are homothetic to Sasakian manifolds. First, four results in this paper deal with finding necessary and sufficient conditions on a compact and connected trans-Sasakian manifold to be homothetic to a compact and connected Sasakian manifold, and the fifth result deals with finding necessary and sufficient condition on a connected trans-Sasakian manifold to be homothetic to a connected Sasakian manifold. Finally, we find necessary and sufficient conditions on a compact and simply connected trans-Sasakian manifold to be homothetic to a compact and simply connected Einstein Sasakian manifold.

In some previous works, two of the authors introduced a technique to design high-order numerical methods for one-dimensional balance laws that preserve all their stationary solutions. The basis of these methods is a well-balanced reconstruction operator. Moreover, they introduced a procedure to modify any standard reconstruction operator, like MUSCL, ENO, CWENO, etc., in order to be well-balanced. This strategy involves a non-linear problem at every cell at every time step that consists in finding the stationary solution whose average is the given cell value. In a recent paper, a fully well-balanced method is presented where the non-linear problems to be solved in the reconstruction procedure are interpreted as control problems. The goal of this paper is to introduce a new technique to solve these local non-linear problems based on the application of the collocation RK methods. Special care is put to analyze the effects of computing the averages and the source terms using quadrature formulas. A general technique which allows us to deal with resonant problems is also introduced. To check the efficiency of the methods and their well-balance property, they have been applied to a number of tests, ranging from easy academic systems of balance laws consisting of Burgers equation with some non-linear source terms to the shallow water equations—without and with Manning friction—or Euler equations of gas dynamics with gravity effects.

In this paper, we consider fractional ordinary differential equations and the fractional Euler–Poisson–Darboux equation with fractional derivatives in the form of a power of the Bessel differential operator. Using the technique of the Meijer integral transform and its modification, fundamental solutions to these equations are derived in terms of the Fox–Wright function, the Fox H-function, and their particular cases. We also provide some explicit formulas for the solutions to the corresponding initial-value problems in terms of the generalized convolutions introduced in this paper.

Software reliability models (SRMs) are widely used for quantitative evaluation of software reliability by estimating model parameters from failure data observed in the testing phase. In particular, non-homogeneous Poisson process (NHPP)-based SRMs are the most popular because of their mathematical tractability. In this paper, we focus on the parameter estimation algorithm for NHPP-based SRMs and discuss the EM algorithm for generalized fault count data. The presented algorithm can be applied for failure time data, failure count data, and their mixture. The paper derives the EM-step formulas for basic 12 NHPP-based SRMs and demonstrate a numerical experiment to present the convergence property of our algorithms. The developed algorithms are suitable for an automatic tool for software reliability evaluation.

Segal introduce the Fourier–Wiener transform for the class of polynomial cylinder functions on Hilbert space, and Hida then develop this concept. Negrin define the extended Wiener transform with Hayker et al. In recent papers, Hayker et al. establish the existence, the composition formula, the inversion formula, and the Parseval relation for the Wiener transform. But, they do not establish homomorphism properties for the Wiener transform. In this paper, the author establishes some basic fundamental formulas for the Wiener transform via some concepts and motivations introduced by Segal and used by Hayker et al. We then state the usefulness of basic fundamental formulas as some applications.

In this paper, the normal form and central manifold theories are used to discuss the influence of two-degree-of-freedom coupled van der Pol oscillators with time delay feedback. Compared with the single-degree-of-freedom time delay van der Pol oscillator, the system studied in this paper has richer dynamical behavior. The results obtained include: the change of time delay causing the stability switching of the system, and the greater the time delay, the more complicated the stability switching. Near the double Hopf bifurcation point, the system is simplified by using the normal form and central manifold theories. The system is divided into six regions with different dynamical properties. With the above results, for practical engineering problems, we can perform time delay feedback adjustment to make the system show amplitude death, limit loop, and so on. It is worth noting that because of the existence of unstable limit cycles in the system, the limit cycle cannot be obtained by numerical solution. Therefore, we derive the approximate analytical solution of the system and simulate the time history of the interaction between two frequencies in Region IV.

In this paper, the problem of reliable control design with mixed H∞ /passive performance is discussed for a class of Takagi–Sugeno TS fuzzy descriptor systems with time-varying delay, sensor failure, and randomly occurred non-linearity. Based on the Lyapunov theory, firstly, a less conservative admissible criterion is established by combining the delay decomposition and reciprocally convex approaches. Then, the attention is focused on the design of a reliable static output feedback (SOF) controller with mixed H∞ /passive performance requirements. The key merit of the paper is to propose a simple method to design such a controller since the system output is subject to probabilistic missing data and noise. Using the output vector as a state component, an augmented model is introduced, and sufficient conditions are derived to achieve the desired performance of the closed-loop system. In addition, the cone complementarity linearization (CCL) algorithm is provided to calculate the controller gains. At last, three numerical examples, including computer-simulated truck-trailer and ball and beam systems are given to show the efficacy of our proposed approach, compared with existing ones in the literature.

The paper presents an analysis and overview of vertex–frequency analysis, an emerging area in graph signal processing. A strong formal link of this area to classical time–frequency analysis is provided. Vertex–frequency localization-based approaches to analyzing signals on the graph emerged as a response to challenges of analysis of big data on irregular domains. Graph signals are either localized in the vertex domain before the spectral analysis is performed or are localized in the spectral domain prior to the inverse graph Fourier transform is applied. The latter approach is the spectral form of the vertex–frequency analysis, and it will be considered in this paper since the spectral domain for signal localization is well ordered and thus simpler for application to the graph signals. The localized graph Fourier transform is defined based on its counterpart, the short-time Fourier transform, in classical signal analysis. We consider various spectral window forms based on which these transforms can tackle the localized signal behavior. Conditions for the signal reconstruction, known as the overlap-and-add (OLA) and weighted overlap-and-add (WOLA) methods, are also considered. Since the graphs can be very large, the realizations of vertex–frequency representations using polynomial form localization have a particular significance. These forms use only very localized vertex domains, and do not require either the graph Fourier transform or the inverse graph Fourier transform, are computationally efficient. These kinds of implementations are then applied to classical time–frequency analysis since their simplicity can be very attractive for the implementation in the case of large time-domain signals. Spectral varying forms of the localization functions are presented as well. These spectral varying forms are related to the wavelet transform. For completeness, the inversion and signal reconstruction are discussed as well. The presented theory is illustrated and demonstrated on numerical examples.

This paper focuses on the dynamic effects of flexible propellers on F2 class aircraft models. An oscillating propeller affects an engine’s mechanical performance, and this combination has a huge influence on the model’s flight dynamic performance. In the first and second sections of this paper, two physical tests that were performed according to the test results obtained using a CFX numerical model are discussed. The studies on flexible propellers for class F2 aircraft models performed in this paper show that, when the first resonant frequencies of the propeller are within the operating range of the aircraft, better flight parameters are achieved. This study helps to explain the effect of a glass composite’s Young’s modulus on the mechanical behavior of a physical propeller in operating conditions and the effect of propeller stiffness on flapping propeller dynamics and unsteady aerodynamics.

We develop a unified convergence analysis of three-step iterative schemes for solving nonlinear Banach space valued equations. The local convergence order has been shown before to be five on the finite dimensional Euclidean space assuming Taylor expansions and the existence of the sixth derivative not on these schemes. So, the usage of them is restricted six or higher differentiable mappings. But in our paper only the first Frèchet derivative is utilized to show convergence. Consequently, the scheme is expanded. Numerical applications are also given to test convergence.

A method of the Riemann–Hilbert problem is employed for Zhang’s conjecture 2 proposed in Philo. Mag. 87 (2007) 5309 for a ferromagnetic three-dimensional (3D) Ising model in a zero external magnetic field. In this work, we first prove that the 3D Ising model in the zero external magnetic field can be mapped to either a (3 + 1)-dimensional ((3 + 1)D) Ising spin lattice or a trivialized topological structure in the (3 + 1)D or four-dimensional (4D) space (Theorem 1). Following the procedures of realizing the representation of knots on the Riemann surface and formulating the Riemann–Hilbert problem in our preceding paper [O. Suzuki and Z.D. Zhang, Mathematics 9 (2021) 776], we introduce vertex operators of knot types and a flat vector bundle for the ferromagnetic 3D Ising model (Theorems 2 and 3). By applying the monoidal transforms to trivialize the knots/links in a 4D Riemann manifold and obtain new trivial knots, we proceed to renormalize the ferromagnetic 3D Ising model in the zero external magnetic field by use of the derivation of Gauss–Bonnet–Chern formula (Theorem 4). The ferromagnetic 3D Ising model with nontrivial topological structures can be realized as a trivial model on a nontrivial topological manifold. The topological phases generalized on wavevectors are determined by the Gauss–Bonnet–Chern formula, in consideration of the mathematical structure of the 3D Ising model. Hence we prove the Zhang’s conjecture 2 (main theorem). Finally, we utilize the ferromagnetic 3D Ising model as a platform for describing a sensible interplay between the physical properties of many-body interacting systems, algebra, topology, and geometry.

The Ewens–Pitman sampling model (EP-SM) is a distribution for random partitions of the set {1,…,n}, with n∈N, which is indexed by real parameters α and θ such that either α∈[0,1) and θ&gt, −α, or α&lt, 0 and θ=−mα for some m∈N. For α=0, the EP-SM is reduced to the Ewens sampling model (E-SM), which admits a well-known compound Poisson perspective in terms of the log-series compound Poisson sampling model (LS-CPSM). In this paper, we consider a generalisation of the LS-CPSM, referred to as the negative Binomial compound Poisson sampling model (NB-CPSM), and we show that it leads to an extension of the compound Poisson perspective of the E-SM to the more general EP-SM for either α∈(0,1), or α&lt, 0. The interplay between the NB-CPSM and the EP-SM is then applied to the study of the large n asymptotic behaviour of the number of blocks in the corresponding random partitions—leading to a new proof of Pitman’s α diversity. We discuss the proposed results and conjecture that analogous compound Poisson representations may hold for the class of α-stable Poisson–Kingman sampling models—of which the EP-SM is a noteworthy special case.

A submersion from an almost contact Riemannian manifold to an almost Hermitian manifold, acting on the horizontal distribution by preserving both the metric and the structure, is, roughly speaking a contact-complex Riemannian submersion. This paper deals mainly with a contact-complex Riemannian submersion from an η-Ricci soliton; it studies when the base manifold is Einstein on one side and when the fibres are η-Einstein submanifolds on the other side. Some results concerning the potential are also obtained here.

In this paper, within the framework of the consistent approach recently introduced for approximate Lie symmetries of differential equations, we consider approximate Noether symmetries of variational problems involving small terms. Then, we state an approximate Noether theorem leading to the construction of approximate conservation laws. Some illustrative applications are presented.

For the spatially-distributed Fermi–Pasta–Ulam (FPU) equation, irregular solutions are studied that contain components rapidly oscillating in the spatial variable, with different asymptotically large modes. The main result of this paper is the construction of families of special nonlinear systems of the Schrödinger type—quasinormal forms—whose nonlocal dynamics determines the local behavior of solutions to the original problem, as t→∞. On their basis, results are obtained on the asymptotics in the main solution of the FPU equation and on the interaction of waves moving in opposite directions. The problem of “perturbing” the number of N elements of a chain is considered. In this case, instead of the differential operator, with respect to one spatial variable, a special differential operator, with respect to two spatial variables appears. This leads to a complication of the structure of an irregular solution.

The present paper proposes a five-dimensional mathematical model for studying the labor market, focusing on unemployment, migration, fixed term contractors, full time employment and the number of available vacancies. The distributed time delay is considered in the rate of change of available vacancies that depends on the past regular employment levels. The non-dimensional mathematical model is introduced and the existence of the equilibrium points is analyzed. The positivity and boundedness of solutions are provided and global asymptotic stability findings are presented both for the employment free equilibrium and the positive equilibrium. The numerical simulations support the theoretical results.

A generalization of fractional vector calculus as a self-consistent mathematical theory is proposed to take into account a general form of non-locality in kernels of fractional vector differential and integral operators. Self-consistency involves proving generalizations of all fundamental theorems of vector calculus for generalized kernels of operators. In the generalization of FVC from power-law nonlocality to the general form of nonlocality in space, we use the general fractional calculus in the Luchko approach. This paper proposed the following: (1) Self-consistent definitions of general fractional differential vector operators: the regional and line general fractional gradients, the regional and surface general fractional curl operators, the general fractional divergence are proposed. (2) Self-consistent definitions of general fractional integral vector operators: the general fractional circulation, general fractional flux and general fractional volume integral are proposed. (3) The general fractional gradient, Green, Stokes and Gauss theorems as fundamental theorems of general fractional vector calculus are proved for simple and complex regions. The fundamental theorems (Gradient, Green, Stokes, Gauss theorems) of the proposed general FVC are proved for a wider class of domains, surfaces and curves. Therefore we can state that we proposed a calculus, which is a general fractional vector calculus. The difficulties and problems of defining general fractional integral and differential vector operators are discussed to the nonlocal case, caused by the violation of standard product (Leibniz) rule, chain rule, and semigroup property. General FVC for orthogonal curvilinear coordinates, which includes general fractional vector operators for the spherical and cylindrical coordinates, is also proposed., Comment: 94 pages

In this paper, a modified exponentiated family of distributions is introduced. The new model was built from a continuous parent cumulative distribution function and depends on a shape parameter. Its most relevant characteristics have been obtained: the probability density function, quantile function, moments, stochastic ordering, Poisson mixture with our proposal as the mixing distribution, order statistics, tail behavior and estimates of parameters. We highlight the particular model based on the classical exponential distribution, which is an alternative to the exponentiated exponential, gamma and Weibull. A simulation study and a real application are presented. It is shown that the proposed family of distributions is of interest to applied areas, such as economics, reliability and finances.

In this paper, a nonparametric estimator of ruin probability is introduced in a spectrally negative Lévy process where the jump component is a tempered α-stable subordinator. Given a discrete record of high-frequency data, a threshold technique is proposed to estimate the mean of the jump size and use the Fourier transform and the Pollaczek–Khinchin formula to construct the estimator of ruin probability. The convergence rate of the integrated squared error for the estimator is studied.

In Mombeni et al. (2019), Birnbaum-Saunders and Weibull kernel estimators were introduced for the estimation of cumulative distribution functions (c.d.f.s) supported on the half-line $[0,\infty)$. They were the first authors to use asymmetric kernels in the context of c.d.f. estimation. Their estimators were shown to perform better numerically than traditional methods such as the basic kernel method and the boundary modified version from Tenreiro (2013). In the present paper, we complement their study by introducing five new asymmetric kernel c.d.f. estimators, namely the Gamma, inverse Gamma, lognormal, inverse Gaussian and reciprocal inverse Gaussian kernel c.d.f. estimators. For these five new estimators, we prove the asymptotic normality and we find asymptotic expressions for the following quantities: bias, variance, mean squared error and mean integrated squared error. A numerical study then compares the performance of the five new c.d.f. estimators against traditional methods and the Birnbaum-Saunders and Weibull kernel c.d.f. estimators from Mombeni et al. (2019). By using the same experimental design, we show that the lognormal and Birnbaum-Saunders kernel c.d.f. estimators perform the best overall, while the other asymmetric kernel estimators are sometimes better but always at least competitive against the boundary kernel method., 38 pages, 2 tables, 9 figures

The forecast of carbon trading price is crucial to both sellers and purchasers, multi-scale integration models have been used widely in this process. However, these multi-scale models ignore the feature reconstruction process as well as the residual part and also they often focus on the linear integration. Meanwhile, most of the models cannot provide prediction interval which means they neglect the uncertainty. In this paper, an improved multi-scale nonlinear integration model is proposed. The original dataset is divided into some subgroups through variational mode decomposition (VMD) and all the subgroups will go through sample entropy (SE) process to reconstruct the features. Then, random forest and long-short term memory (LSTM) integration are used to model feature sub-sequences. For the residual part, LSTM residual correction strategy based on white noise test corrects residuals to obtain point prediction results. Finally, Gaussian process (GP) is applied to get the prediction interval estimate. The result shows that compared with some other methods, the proposed method can obtain satisfying accuracy which has the minimum statistical error. So, it is safe to conclude that the proposed method is able to efficiently predict the carbon price as well as to provide the prediction interval estimate.

In the paper, we obtain universality theorems for compositions of some classes of operators in multidimensional space of analytic functions with a collection of periodic zeta-functions. The used shifts of periodic zeta-functions involve the sequence of imaginary parts of non-trivial zeros of the Riemann zeta-function.

This paper describes how to tighten M1.4 screws by controlling a manipulator. The whole process is based on a human–machine interface designed using Visual Studio C++ to run image processing algorithms and control the position of a manipulator. Two charge-coupled device cameras are used. One is fixed on the stationary frame above screw holes and used to take pictures of the holes. The positions of the holes are determined using image processing algorithms and then transformed into the coordinate system of the manipulator by using coordinate transformation. The other camera, installed on the end effect of the manipulator, photographs the screw hole to fine-tune the position of the manipulator, improving positioning control. The image processing methods including grayscale, Gaussian filter, bilateral filter, binarization, edge detection, center of gravity, and minimum circumcircle are used to find the center coordinates of the target holes. Experimental study shows that M1.4 screws can be tightened into the target holes with the manipulator.

The Dirichlet distribution is a well-known candidate in modeling compositional data sets. However, in the presence of outliers, the Dirichlet distribution fails to model such data sets, making other model extensions necessary. In this paper, the Kummer–Dirichlet distribution and the gamma distribution are coupled, using the beta-generating technique. This development results in the proposal of the Kummer–Dirichlet gamma distribution, which presents greater flexibility in modeling compositional data sets. Some general properties, such as the probability density functions and the moments are presented for this new candidate. The method of maximum likelihood is applied in the estimation of the parameters. The usefulness of this model is demonstrated through the application of synthetic and real data sets, where outliers are present.

This paper presents a third order iterative method for obtaining the Moore–Penrose and Drazin inverses with a computational cost of O(n3), where n∈N. The performance of the new approach is compared with other methods discussed in the literature. The results show that the algorithm is remarkably efficient and accurate. Furthermore, sufficient criteria in the fractional sense are presented, both for smooth and non-smooth solutions. The fractional elliptic Poisson and fractional sub-diffusion equations in the Caputo sense are considered as prototype examples. The results can be extended to other scientific areas involving numerical linear algebra.

An objective Bayesian method for the Tweedie Exponential Dispersion (TED) process model is proposed in this paper. The TED process is a generalized stochastic process, including some famous stochastic processes (e.g., Wiener, Gamma, and Inverse Gaussian processes) as special cases. This characteristic model of several types of process, to be more generic, is of particular use for degradation data analysis. At present, the estimation methods of the TED model are the subjective Bayesian method or the frequentist method. However, some products may not have historical information for reference and the sample size is small, which will lead to a dilemma for the frequentist method and subjective Bayesian method. Therefore, we propose an objective Bayesian method to analyze the TED model. Furthermore, we prove that the corresponding posterior distributions have nice properties and propose Metropolis–Hastings algorithms for the Bayesian inference. To illustrate the applicability and advantages of the TED model and objective Bayesian method, we compare the objective Bayesian estimates with the subjective Bayesian estimates and the maximum likelihood estimates according to Monte Carlo simulations. Finally, a case of GaAs laser data is used to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed methods.

This paper addresses the global stability analysis of the SEIRS epidemic model with a nonlinear incidence rate function according to the Lyapunov functions and Volterra-Lyapunov matrices. By creating special conditions and using the properties of Volterra-Lyapunov matrices, it is possible to recognize the stability of the endemic equilibrium (E1) for the SEIRS model. Numerical results are used to verify the presented analysis.

In this paper, we examine a sampled-data Nash equilibrium strategy for a stochastic linear quadratic (LQ) differential game, in which admissible strategies are assumed to be constant on the interval between consecutive measurements. Our solution first involves transforming the problem into a linear stochastic system with finite jumps. This allows us to obtain necessary and sufficient conditions assuring the existence of a sampled-data Nash equilibrium strategy, extending earlier results to a general context with more than two players. Furthermore, we provide a numerical algorithm for calculating the feedback matrices of the Nash equilibrium strategies. Finally, we illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm by two numerical examples. As both situations highlight a stabilization effect, this confirms the efficiency of our approach.

In this paper, the use of the construction of random processes on graphs allows us to expand the models of the theory of queuing and reliability by constructing. These problems are important because the emphasis on the legal component largely determines functioning of these models. The considered models are reliability and queuing. Reliability models arranged according to the modular principle and reliability networks in the form of planar graphs. The queuing models considered here are queuing networks with multi server nodes and failures, changing the parameters of the queuing system in a random environment with absorbing states, and the process of growth of a random network. This is determined by the possibility of using, as traditional probability methods, mathematical logic theorems, geometric images of a queuing network, dual graphs to planar graphs, and a solution to the Dirichlet problem.

A honeycomb is a kind of excellent lightweight structure and a honeycomb sandwich plate with zero Poisson’s ratio (ZPR) core is used widely in morphing structures. In this paper, a sandwich plate composed of a honeycomb core with zero Poisson’s ratio is analyzed for free vibrations and flutter under supersonic airflows. The equivalent elastic parametric formulas of the honeycomb core for zero Poisson’s ratio are proposed. The models are compared for their natural frequencies by theoretical and finite element methods respectively, which verifies the validity of the equivalent elastic parametric formulas and the model for the honeycomb sandwich plate with zero Poisson’s ratio. The influence of the geometric parameters of the honeycomb plate on the vibration frequencies is obtained. Three kinds of honeycomb cores, namely, regular hexagon, auxetic and hybrid with zero Poisson’s ratio, are compared through natural frequencies of the sandwich plate. It is found that the frequency of the zero Poisson’s ratio honeycomb sandwich plate is the second one when the other parameters are the same. The flutter of the honeycomb plate is analyzed by using the first order piston theory under supersonic flows. The critical flutter velocity of the plate is obtained, and the influence of geometric parameters of the honeycomb plate on the critical flutter velocities is obtained.

The paper deals with a Volterra integral equation with delay. In order to apply the w-weak generalized contraction theorem for the study of existence and uniqueness of solutions, we rewrite the equation as a fixed point problem. The assumptions take into account the support of w-distance and the complexity of the delay equation. Gronwall-type theorem and comparison theorem are also discussed using a weak Picard operator technique. In the end, an example is provided to support our results.

This paper provides an accurate chronology of the Spanish reference business cycle adapting a multiple change-point model. In that approach, each combination of peaks and troughs dated in a set of economic indicators is assumed to be a realization of a mixture of bivariate Gaussian distributions, whose number of components is estimated from the data. The means of each of these components refer to the dates of the reference turning points. The transitions across the components of the mixture are governed by Markov chain that is restricted to force left-to-right transition dynamic. In the empirical application, seven recessions in the period from February 1970 to February 2020 are identified, which are in high concordance with the timing of the turning point dates established by the Spanish Business Cycle Dating Committee (SBCDC).

This paper is concerned with the rate of convergence of the distribution of the sequence {Fn/Gn}, where Fn and Gn are each functionals of infinite-dimensional Gaussian fields. This form very frequently appears in the estimation problem of parameters occurring in Stochastic Differential Equations (SDEs) and Stochastic Partial Differential Equations (SPDEs). We develop a new technique to compute the exact rate of convergence on the Kolmogorov distance for the normal approximation of Fn/Gn. As a tool for our work, an Edgeworth expansion for the distribution of Fn/Gn, with an explicitly expressed remainder, will be developed, and this remainder term will be controlled to obtain an optimal bound. As an application, we provide an optimal Berry–Esseen bound of the Maximum Likelihood Estimator (MLE) of an unknown parameter appearing in SDEs and SPDEs.

This paper focuses on the construction of deterministic and stochastic extensions of the Gompertz curve by means of generalized fractional derivatives induced by complete Bernstein functions. Precisely, we first introduce a class of linear stochastic equations involving a generalized fractional integral and we study the properties of its solutions. This is done by proving the existence and uniqueness of Gaussian solutions of such equations via a fixed point argument and then by showing that, under suitable conditions, the expected value of the solution solves a generalized fractional linear equation. Regularity of the absolute p-moment functions is proved by using generalized Grönwall inequalities. Deterministic generalized fractional Gompertz curves are introduced by means of Caputo-type generalized fractional derivatives, possibly with respect to other functions. Their stochastic counterparts are then constructed by using the previously considered integral equations to define a rate process and a generalization of lognormal distributions to ensure that the median of the newly constructed process coincides with the deterministic curve.

Under the increasing pressure of global emission reduction, prefabricated buildings are becoming more and more popular. As prefabricated building manufacturers and assemblers are emerging in the market, how do they make decisions of pricing, ordering, and emission reduction? In this paper, game theory is used to make the decisions for the prefabricated building supply chain with flexible cap-and-trade and different power structures, i.e., using prefabricated building manufacturers as the leader, using the vertical Nash equilibrium, and using prefabricated building assemblers as the leader. The two-part tariff contract is designed to coordinate the supply chain and to improve the supply chain performance. Moreover, we discuss the influence of different power structures and the two-part tariff contract on the optimal decisions and profits. Finally, numerical analysis is used to verify the conclusions. This indicates that the supply chain leaders will gain a higher profit and that the power structure has a significant influence on the two-part tariff contract, which will result in an unfair distribution of profit. High carbon trading prices benefit carbon emission reduction. Consumer low-carbon awareness has a positive effect on carbon emission reduction and supply chain performance.

Habitat fragmentation is recognized as the most serious threat to biodiversity worldwide and has been the focus of intensive research for a few decades. Due to the complexity of the problem, however, there are still many issues that remain poorly understood. In particular, it remains unclear how species extinction or persistence in a fragmented habitat consisting of sites with randomly varying properties can be affected by the strength of inter-site coupling (e.g., due to migration between sites). In this paper, we address this problem by means of numerical simulations using a conceptual single-species spatially-discrete system. We show how an increase in the inter-site coupling changes the population distribution, leading to the formation of persistence domains separated by extinction domains. Having analysed the simulation results, we suggest a simple heuristic criterion that allows one to distinguish between different spatial domains where the species either persists or goes extinct.

In this paper, we investigate the stability of equilibrium in the stage-structured and density-dependent predator–prey system with Beddington–DeAngelis functional response. First, by checking the sign of the real part for eigenvalue, local stability of origin equilibrium and boundary equilibrium are studied. Second, we explore the local stability of the positive equilibrium for τ=0 and τ≠0 (time delay τ is the time taken from immaturity to maturity predator), which shows that local stability of the positive equilibrium is dependent on parameter τ. Third, we qualitatively analyze global asymptotical stability of the positive equilibrium. Based on stability theory of periodic solutions, global asymptotical stability of the positive equilibrium is obtained when τ=0, by constructing Lyapunov functions, we conclude that the positive equilibrium is also globally asymptotically stable when τ≠0. Finally, examples with numerical simulations are given to illustrate the obtained results.

This paper studies the discretization of fractional operators by means of advanced clustering methods. The Grünwald–Letnikov fractional operator is approximated by series generated by the Euler, Tustin and generalized mean. The series for different fractional orders form the objects to be assessed. For this purpose, the several distances associated with the hierarchical clustering and multidimensional scaling computational techniques are tested. The Arc-cosine distance and the 3-dim multidimensional scaling produce good results. The visualization of the graphical representations allows a better understanding of the properties embedded in each type of approximation of the fractional operators.

In this paper, we review two related aspects of field theory: the modeling of the fields by means of exterior algebra and calculus, and the derivation of the field dynamics, i.e., the Euler-Lagrange equations, by means of the stationary action principle. In contrast to the usual tensorial derivation of these equations for field theories, that gives separate equations for the field components, two related coordinate-free forms of the Euler-Lagrange equations are derived. These alternative forms of the equations, reminiscent of the formulae of vector calculus, are expressed in terms of vector derivatives of the Lagrangian density. The first form is valid for a generic Lagrangian density that only depends on the first-order derivatives of the field. The second form, expressed in exterior algebra notation, is specific to the case when the Lagrangian density is a function of the exterior and interior derivatives of the multivector field. As an application, a Lagrangian density for generalized electromagnetic multivector fields of arbitrary grade is postulated and shown to have, by taking the vector derivative of the Lagrangian density, the generalized Maxwell equations as Euler--Lagrange equations., Comment: 13 pages

The paper suggests a general method for proving the fact whether a certain set is p-computable or not. The method is based on a polynomial analogue of the classical Gandy’s fixed point theorem. Classical Gandy’s theorem deals with the extension of a predicate through a special operator ΓΦ(x)Ω∗ and states that the smallest fixed point of this operator is a Σ-set. Our work uses a new type of operator which extends predicates so that the smallest fixed point remains a p-computable set. Moreover, if in the classical Gandy’s fixed point theorem, the special Σ-formula Φ(x¯) is used in the construction of the operator, then a new operator uses special generating families of formulas instead of a single formula. This work opens up broad prospects for the application of the polynomial analogue of Gandy’s theorem in the construction of new types of terms and formulas, in the construction of new data types and programs of polynomial computational complexity in Turing complete languages.

The aim of this paper is to develop a Hamilton--Jacobi theory for contact Hamiltonian systems. We find several forms for a suitable Hamilton-Jacobi equation accordingly to the Hamiltonian and the evolution vector fields for a given Hamiltonian function. We also analyze the corresponding formulation on the symplectification of the contact Hamiltonian system, and establish the relations between these two approaches. This paper studies the propagation of the short pulse optics model governed by the higher-order nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLSE) with non-Kerr nonlinearity. Exact one-soliton solutions are derived for a generalized case of the NLSE with the aid of software symbolic computations. The modified Kudryashov simple equation method (MSEM) is employed for this purpose under some parametric constraints. The computational work shows the difference, effectiveness, reliability, and power of the considered scheme. This method can treat several complex higher-order NLSEs that arise in mathematical physics. Graphical illustrations of some obtained solitons are presented.

Stochastic parameter estimation and inversion have become increasingly popular in recent years. Nowadays, it is computationally reasonable and regular to solve complex inverse problems within the Bayesian framework. Applications of Bayesian inferences for inverse problems require investigation of the posterior distribution, which usually has a complex landscape and is highly dimensional. In these cases, Markov chain Monte Carlo methods (MCMC) are often used. This paper discusses a Bayesian approach for identifying adsorption and desorption rates in combination with a pore-scale reactive flow. Markov chain Monte Carlo sampling is used to estimate adsorption and desorption rates. The reactive transport in porous media is governed by incompressible Stokes equations, coupled with convection–diffusion equation for species’ transport. Adsorption and desorption are accounted via Robin boundary conditions. The Henry isotherm is considered for describing the reaction terms. The measured concentration at the outlet boundary is provided as additional information for the identification procedure. Metropolis–Hastings and Adaptive Metropolis algorithms are implemented. Credible intervals have been plotted from sampled posterior distributions for both algorithms. The impact of the noise in the measurements and influence of several measurements for Bayesian identification procedure is studied. Sample analysis using the autocorrelation function and acceptance rate is performed to estimate mixing of the Markov chain. As result, we conclude that MCMC sampling algorithm within the Bayesian framework is good enough to determine an admissible set of parameters via credible intervals.

Discussions are presented by Morita and Sato in Mathematics 2017, 5, 62: 1–24, on the problem of obtaining the particular solution of an inhomogeneous ordinary differential equation with polynomial coefficients in terms of the Green’s function, in the framework of distribution theory. In the present paper, a compact recipe in nonstandard analysis is presented, which is applicable to an inhomogeneous ordinary and also fractional differential equation with polynomial coefficients. The recipe consists of three theorems, each of which provides the particular solution of a differential equation for an inhomogeneous term, satisfying one of three conditions. The detailed derivation of the applications of these theorems is given for a simple fractional differential equation and an ordinary differential equation.

The aim of this paper is to study, from a topological and geometrical point of view, the iteration map obtained by the application of iterative methods (Newton or relaxed Newton’s method) to a polynomial equation. In fact, we present a collection of algorithms that avoid the problem of overflows caused by denominators close to zero and the problem of indetermination which appears when simultaneously the numerator and denominator are equal to zero. This is solved by working with homogeneous coordinates and the iteration of self-maps of the Hopf fibration. As an application, our algorithms can be used to check the existence of multiple roots for polynomial equations as well as to give a graphical representation of the union of the basins of attraction of simple roots and the union of the basins of multiple roots. Finally, we would like to highlight that all the algorithms developed in this work have been implemented in Julia, a programming language with increasing use in the mathematical community.

In the previous author’s works, a representation of the solution of the Dirichlet boundary value problem for the biharmonic equation in terms of Green’s function is found, and then it is shown that this representation for a ball can be written in the form of the well-known Almansi formula with explicitly defined harmonic components. In this paper, this idea is extended to the Dirichlet boundary value problem for the polyharmonic equation, but without invoking the Green’s function. It turned out to find an explicit representation of the harmonic components of the m-harmonic function, which is a solution to the Dirichlet boundary value problem, in terms of m solutions to the Dirichlet boundary value problems for the Laplace equation in the unit ball. Then, using this representation, an explicit formula for the harmonic components of the solution to the Neumann boundary value problem for the polyharmonic equation in the unit ball is obtained. Examples are given that illustrate all stages of constructing solutions to the problems under consideration.

This paper presents two inertial extragradient algorithms for finding a solution of split pseudomonotone equilibrium problems in the setting of real Hilbert spaces. The weak and strong convergence theorems of the introduced algorithms are presented under some constraint qualifications of the scalar sequences. The discussions on the numerical experiments are also provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms.
