In order to solve the Sylvester equations more efficiently, a new four parameters positive and skew-Hermitian splitting (FPPSS) iterative method is proposed in this paper based on the previous research of the positive and skew-Hermitian splitting (PSS) iterative method. We prove that when coefficient matrix A and B satisfy certain conditions, the FPPSS iterative method is convergent in the parameter&rsquo, s value region. The numerical experiment results show that compared with previous iterative method, the FPPSS iterative method is more effective in terms of iteration number IT and runtime.

This paper presents a variant scheme of the cubic exponential B-spline scheme, which, with two parameters, can generate curves with different shapes. This variant scheme is obtained based on the iteration from the generation of exponentials and a suitably chosen function. For such a scheme, we show its C2-convergence and analyze the effect of the parameters on the shape of the generated curves and also discuss its convexity preservation. In addition, a non-uniform version of this variant scheme is derived in order to locally control the shape of the generated curves. Numerical examples are given to illustrate the performance of the new schemes in this paper.

The aim of this paper is to compute the exact solutions and conservation of a generalized (1 + 1) dimensional system. This can be achieved by employing symbolic manipulation software such as Maple, Mathematica, or MATLAB. In theoretical physics and in many scientific applications, the mentioned system naturally arises. Time, space, and scaling transformation symmetries lead to novel similarity reductions and new exact solutions. The solutions obtained include solitary waves and cnoidal and snoidal waves. The familiarity of closed-form solutions of nonlinear ordinary and partial differential equations enables numerical solvers and supports stability analysis. Although many efforts have been dedicated to solving nonlinear evolution equations, there is no unified method. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time that Lie point symmetry analysis in conjunction with an ansatz method has been applied on this underlying equation. It should also be noted that the methods applied in this paper give a unique solution set that differs from the newly reported solutions. In addition, we derive the conservation laws of the underlying system. It is also worth mentioning that this is the first time that the conservation laws for the equation under study are derived.

The work continues a series of articles devoted to the peculiarities of solving coefficient inverse problems for nonlinear singularly perturbed equations of the reaction-diffusion-advection-type with data on the position of the reaction front. In this paper, we place the emphasis on some problems of the numerical solving process. One of the approaches to solving inverse problems of the class under consideration is the use of methods of asymptotic analysis. These methods, under certain conditions, make it possible to construct the so-called reduced formulation of the inverse problem. Usually, a differential equation in this formulation has a lower dimension/order with respect to the differential equation, which is included in the full statement of the inverse problem. In this paper, we consider an example that leads to a reduced formulation of the problem, the solving of which is no less a time-consuming procedure in comparison with the numerical solving of the problem in the full statement. In particular, to obtain an approximate numerical solution, one has to use the methods of the numerical diagnostics of the solution’s blow-up. Thus, it is demonstrated that the possibility of constructing a reduced formulation of the inverse problem does not guarantee its more efficient solving. Moreover, the possibility of constructing a reduced formulation of the problem does not guarantee the existence of an approximate solution that is qualitatively comparable to the true one. In previous works of the authors, it was shown that an acceptable approximate solution can be obtained only for sufficiently small values of the singular parameter included in the full statement of the problem. However, the question of how to proceed if the singular parameter is not small enough remains open. The work also gives an answer to this question.

In this paper, we propose an approach to inverse spectral problems for the n-th order (n≥2) ordinary differential operators with distribution coefficients. The inverse problems which consist in the reconstruction of the differential expression coefficients by the Weyl matrix and by several spectra are studied. We prove the uniqueness of solution for these inverse problems, by developing the method of spectral mappings. The results of this paper generalize the previously known results for the second-order differential operators with singular potentials and for the higher-order differential operators with regular coefficients. In the future, the approach of this paper can be used for constructive solution and for investigation of solvability of the considered inverse problems.

In this paper, a single-species population model with distributed delay and Michaelis-Menten type harvesting is established. Through an appropriate transformation, the mathematical model is converted into a two-dimensional system. Applying qualitative theory of ordinary differential equations, we obtain sufficient conditions for the stability of the equilibria of this system under three cases. The equilibrium A1 of system is globally asymptotically stable when br−c&gt, 0 and η&lt, 0. Using Poincare-Bendixson theorem, we determine the existence and stability of limit cycle when br−c&gt, 0 and η&gt, 0. By computing Lyapunov number, we obtain that a supercritical Hopf bifurcation occurs when η passes through 0. High order singularity of the system, such as saddle node, degenerate critical point, unstable node, saddle point, etc, is studied by the theory of ordinary differential equations. Numerical simulations are provided to verify our main results in this paper.

One of the famous third-order iterative methods for finding simultaneously all the zeros of a polynomial was introduced by Ehrlich in 1967. In this paper, we construct a new family of high-order iterative methods as a combination of Ehrlich’s iteration function and an arbitrary iteration function. We call these methods Ehrlich’s methods with correction. The paper provides a detailed local convergence analysis of presented iterative methods for a large class of iteration functions. As a consequence, we obtain two types of local convergence theorems as well as semilocal convergence theorems (with computer verifiable initial condition). As special cases of the main results, we study the convergence of several particular iterative methods. The paper ends with some experiments that show the applicability of our semilocal convergence theorems.

In this paper, we study the recently proposed fractional-order operators with general analytic kernels. The kernel of these operators is a locally uniformly convergent power series that can be chosen adequately to obtain a family of fractional operators and, in particular, the main existing fractional derivatives. Based on the conditions for the Laplace transform of these operators, in this paper, some new results are obtained—for example, relationships between Riemann–Liouville and Caputo derivatives and inverse operators. Later, employing a representation for the product of two functions, we determine a form of calculating its fractional derivative, this result is essential due to its connection to the fractional derivative of Lyapunov functions. In addition, some other new results are developed, leading to Lyapunov-like theorems and a Lyapunov direct method that serves to prove asymptotic stability in the sense of the operators with general analytic kernels. The FOB-stability concept is introduced, which generalizes the classical Mittag–Leffler stability for a wide class of systems. Some inequalities are established for operators with general analytic kernels, which generalize others in the literature. Finally, some new stability results via convex Lyapunov functions are presented, whose importance lies in avoiding the calculation of fractional derivatives for the stability analysis of dynamical systems. Some illustrative examples are given.

In this paper, the existence of the solution and its stability to the fractional boundary value problem (FBVP) were investigated for an implicit nonlinear fractional differential equation (VOFDE) of variable order. All existence criteria of the solutions in our establishments were derived via Krasnoselskii’s fixed point theorem and in the sequel, and its Ulam–Hyers–Rassias (U-H-R) stability is checked. An illustrative example is presented at the end of this paper to validate our findings.

In this paper, we construct and study a new family of multi-point Ehrlich-type iterative methods for approximating all the zeros of a uni-variate polynomial simultaneously. The first member of this family is the two-point Ehrlich-type iterative method introduced and studied by Trićković and Petković in 1999. The main purpose of the paper is to provide local and semilocal convergence analysis of the multi-point Ehrlich-type methods. Our local convergence theorem is obtained by an approach that was introduced by the authors in 2020. Two numerical examples are presented to show the applicability of our semilocal convergence theorem.

In this paper, we consider fractional ordinary differential equations and the fractional Euler–Poisson–Darboux equation with fractional derivatives in the form of a power of the Bessel differential operator. Using the technique of the Meijer integral transform and its modification, fundamental solutions to these equations are derived in terms of the Fox–Wright function, the Fox H-function, and their particular cases. We also provide some explicit formulas for the solutions to the corresponding initial-value problems in terms of the generalized convolutions introduced in this paper.

The paper presents k-version of the finite element method for boundary value problems (BVPs) and initial value problems (IVPs) in which global differentiability of approximations is always the result of the union of local approximations. The higher order global differentiability approximations (HGDA/DG) are always p-version hierarchical that permit use of any desired p-level without effecting global differentiability. HGDA/DG are true Ci, Cij, Cijk, hence the dofs at the nonhierarchical nodes of the elements are transformable between natural and physical coordinate spaces using calculus. This is not the case with tensor product higher order continuity elements discussed in this paper, thus confirming that the tensor product approximations are not true Ci, Cijk, Cijk approximations. It is shown that isogeometric analysis for a domain with more than one patch can only yield solutions of class C0. This method has no concept of finite elements and local approximations, just patches. It is shown that compariso of this method with k-version of the finite element method is meaningless. Model problem studies in R2 establish accuracy and superior convergence characteristics of true Cijp-version hierarchical local approximations presented in this paper over tensor product approximations. Convergence characteristics of p-convergence, k-convergence and pk-convergence are illustrated for self adjoint, non-self adjoint and non-linear differential operators in BVPs. It is demonstrated that h, p and k are three independent parameters in all finite element computations. Tensor product local approximations and other published works on k-version and their limitations are discussed in the paper and are compared with present work.

This paper provides several error estimations for total variation (TV) type regularization, which arises in a series of areas, for instance, signal and imaging processing, machine learning, etc. In this paper, some basic properties of the minimizer for the TV regularization problem such as stability, consistency and convergence rate are fully investigated. Both a priori and a posteriori rules are considered in this paper. Furthermore, an improved convergence rate is given based on the sparsity assumption. The problem under the condition of non-sparsity, which is common in practice, is also discussed, the results of the corresponding convergence rate are also presented under certain mild conditions.

Power electronic converters are mathematically represented by a system of ordinary differential equations discontinuous right-hand side that does not verify the conditions of the Cauchy-Lipschitz Theorem. More generally, for the properties that characterize their discontinuous behavior, they represent a particular class of systems on which little has been investigated over the years. The purpose of the paper is to prove the existence of at least one global solution in Filippov’s sense to the Cauchy problem related to the mathematical model of a power converter and also to calculate the error in norm between this solution and the integral of its averaged approximation. The main results are the proof of this theorem and the analytical formulation that provides to calculate the cited error. The demonstration starts by a proof of local existence provided by Filippov himself and already present in the literature for a particular class of systems and this demonstration is generalized to the class of electronic power converters, exploiting the non-chattering property of this class of systems. The obtained results are extremely useful for estimating the accuracy of the averaged model used for analysis or control of the effective system. In the paper, the goodness of the analytical proof is supported by experimental tests carried out on a converter prototype representing the class of power electronics converter.

In this paper, we use integral equations of non-integer orders to derive discrete maps with memory. Note that discrete maps with memory were not previously derived from fractional integral equations of non-integer orders. Such a derivation of discrete maps with memory is proposed for the first time in this work. In this paper, we derived discrete maps with nonlocality in time and memory from exact solutions of fractional integral equations with the Riemann–Liouville and Hadamard type fractional integrals of non-integer orders and periodic sequence of kicks that are described by Dirac delta-functions. The suggested discrete maps with nonlocality in time are derived from these fractional integral equations without any approximation and can be considered as exact discrete analogs of these equations. The discrete maps with memory, which are derived from integral equations with the Hadamard type fractional integrals, do not depend on the period of kicks.

Previous works were dedicated to the functional k-Nearest Neighbors (kNN) and the local linearity method estimations of a regression operator. In this paper, a sequence pair of (Xi,Yi)i=1,…,n of functional mixing observations are considered. We treat the local linear estimation of the cumulative function of Yi given functional input variable Xi. Precisely, we combine the kNN method with the local linear algorithm to construct a new and fast efficiency estimator of the conditional distribution function. The main purpose of this paper is to prove the strong convergence of the constructed estimator under mixing conditions. An application to the functional times series prediction is used to compare our proposed estimator with the existing competitive estimators, and show its efficiency and superiority.

In previous papers, a technique has been suggested to avoid order reduction when integrating initial boundary value problems with several kinds of exponential methods. The technique implies in principle to calculate additional terms at each step from those already necessary without avoiding order reduction. The aim of the present paper is to explain the surprising result that, many times, in spite of having to calculate more terms at each step, the computational cost of doing it through Krylov methods decreases instead of increases. This is very interesting since, in that way, the methods improve not only in terms of accuracy, but also in terms of computational cost.

Here, we review some results of fractional volatility models, where the volatility is driven by fractional Brownian motion (fBm). In these models, the future average volatility is not a process adapted to the underlying filtration, and fBm is not a semimartingale in general. So, we cannot use the classical Itô’s calculus to explain how the memory properties of fBm allow us to describe some empirical findings of the implied volatility surface through Hull and White type formulas. Thus, Malliavin calculus provides a natural approach to deal with the implied volatility without assuming any particular structure of the volatility. The aim of this paper is to provides the basic tools of Malliavin calculus for the study of fractional volatility models. That is, we explain how the long and short memory of fBm improves the description of the implied volatility. In particular, we consider in detail a model that combines the long and short memory properties of fBm as an example of the approach introduced in this paper. The theoretical results are tested with numerical experiments.

This paper describes a number of simple but quite effective methods for constructing exact solutions of nonlinear partial differential equations that involve a relatively small amount of intermediate calculations. The methods employ two main ideas: (i) simple exact solutions can serve to construct more complex solutions of the equations under consideration and (ii) exact solutions of some equations can serve to construct solutions of other, more complex equations. In particular, we propose a method for constructing complex solutions from simple solutions using translation and scaling. We show that in some cases, rather complex solutions can be obtained by adding one or more terms to simpler solutions. There are situations where nonlinear superposition allows us to construct a complex composite solution using similar simple solutions. We also propose a few methods for constructing complex exact solutions to linear and nonlinear PDEs by introducing complex-valued parameters into simpler solutions. The effectiveness of the methods is illustrated by a large number of specific examples (over 30 in total). These include nonlinear heat equations, reaction–diffusion equations, wave type equations, Klein–Gordon type equations, equations of motion through porous media, hydrodynamic boundary layer equations, equations of motion of a liquid film, equations of gas dynamics, Navier–Stokes equations, and some other PDEs. Apart from exact solutions to `ordinary’ partial differential equations, we also describe some exact solutions to more complex nonlinear delay PDEs. Along with the unknown function at the current time, u=u(x,t), these equations contain the same function at a past time, w=u(x,t−τ), where τ&gt, 0 is the delay time. Furthermore, we look at nonlinear partial functional-differential equations of the pantograph type, which, in addition to the unknown u=u(x,t), also contain the same functions with dilated or contracted arguments, w=u(px,qt), where p and q are scaling parameters. We propose an efficient approach to construct exact solutions to such functional-differential equations. Some new exact solutions of nonlinear pantograph-type PDEs are presented. The methods and examples in this paper are presented according to the principle “from simple to complex”.

In this paper, we present a numerical solution of a two-phase fractional Stefan problem with time derivative described in the Caputo sense. In the proposed algorithm, we use a special case of front-fixing method supplemented by the iterative procedure, which allows us to determine the position of the moving boundary. The presented method is an extension of a front-fixing method for the one-phase problem to the two-phase case. The novelty of the method is a new discretization of the partial differential equation dedicated to the second phase, which is carried out by introducing a new spatial variable immobilizing the moving boundary. Then, the partial differential equation is transformed to an equivalent integro-differential equation, which is discretized on a homogeneous mesh of nodes with a constant spatial and time step. A new convergence criterion is also proposed in the iterative algorithm determining the location of the moving boundary. The motivation for the development of the method is that the analytical solution of the considered problem is impossible to calculate in some cases, as can be seen in the figures in the paper. Moreover, the change of the boundary conditions makes obtaining a closed analytical solution very problematic. Therefore, creating new numerical methods is very valuable. In the final part, we also present some examples illustrating the comparison of the analytical solution with the results received by the proposed numerical method.

This paper is concerned with the orthogonal polynomials. Upper and lower bounds of Legendre polynomials are obtained. Furthermore, entropies associated with discrete probability distributions is a topic considered in this paper. Bounds of the entropies which improve some previously known results are obtained in terms of inequalities. In order to illustrate the results obtained in this paper and to compare them with other results from the literature some graphs are provided.

A fuzzy least squares estimator in the multiple with fuzzy-input&ndash, fuzzy-output linear regression model is considered. The paper provides a formula for the L2 estimator of the fuzzy regression model. This paper proposes several operations for fuzzy numbers and fuzzy matrices with fuzzy components and discussed some algebraic properties that are needed to use for proving theorems. Using the proposed operations, the formula for the variance, provided and this paper, proves that the estimators have several important optimal properties and asymptotic properties: they are Best Linear Unbiased Estimator (BLUE), asymptotic normality and strong consistency. The confidence regions of the coefficient parameters and the asymptotic relative efficiency (ARE) are also discussed. In addition, several examples are provided including a Monte Carlo simulation study showing the validity of the proposed theorems.

In this paper a new method called the least squares differential quadrature method (LSDQM) is introduced as a straightforward and efficient method to compute analytical approximate polynomial solutions for nonlinear partial differential equations with fractional time derivatives. LSDQM is a combination of the differential quadrature method and the least squares method and in this paper it is employed to find approximate solutions for a very general class of nonlinear partial differential equations, wherein the fractional derivatives are described in the Caputo sense. The paper contains a clear, step-by-step presentation of the method and a convergence theorem. In order to emphasize the accuracy of LSDQM we included two test problems previously solved by means of other, well-known methods, and observed that our solutions present not only a smaller error but also a much simpler expression. We also included a problem with no known exact solution and the solutions computed by LSDQM are in good agreement with previous ones.

In this paper, we study the oscillatory behavior of solutions for a type of generalized proportional fractional differential equations with forcing and damping terms. Several oscillation criteria are established for the proposed equations in terms of Riemann-Liouville and Caputo settings. The results of this paper generalize some existing theorems in the literature. Indeed, it is shown that for particular choices of parameters, the obtained conditions in this paper reduce our theorems to some known results. Numerical examples are constructed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the our main theorems. Furthermore, we present and illustrate an example which does not satisfy the assumptions of our theorem and whose solution demonstrates nonoscillatory behavior.

In this survey paper, we present both some basic properties of the four-parameters Wright function and its applications in Fractional Calculus. For applications in Fractional Calculus, the four-parameters Wright function of the second kind is especially important. In the paper, three case studies illustrating a wide spectrum of its applications are presented. The first case study deals with the scale-invariant solutions to a one-dimensional time-fractional diffusion-wave equation that can be represented in terms of the Wright function of the second kind and the four-parameters Wright function of the second kind. In the second case study, we consider a subordination formula for the solutions to a multi-dimensional space-time-fractional diffusion equation with different orders of the fractional derivatives. The kernel of the subordination integral is a special case of the four-parameters Wright function of the second kind. Finally, in the third case study, we shortly present an application of an operational calculus for a composed Erdélyi-Kober fractional operator for solving some initial-value problems for the fractional differential equations with the left- and right-hand sided Erdélyi-Kober fractional derivatives. In particular, we present an example with an explicit solution in terms of the four-parameters Wright function of the second kind.

The purpose of this paper is to introduce the split combination of variational inclusion problem which combines the concept of the modified variational inclusion problem introduced by Khuangsatung and Kangtunyakarn and the split variational inclusion problem introduced by Moudafi. Using a modified Halpern iterative method, we prove the strong convergence theorem for finding a common solution for the hierarchical fixed point problem and the split combination of variational inclusion problem. The result presented in this paper demonstrates the corresponding result for the split zero point problem and the split combination of variation inequality problem. Moreover, we discuss a numerical example for supporting our result and the numerical example shows that our result is not true if some conditions fail.

Our aim in this paper is to investigate the convergence behavior of the positive solutions of a higher order fuzzy difference equation and show that all positive solutions of this equation converge to its unique positive equilibrium under appropriate assumptions. Furthermore, we give two examples to account for the applicability of the main result of this paper.

This paper deals with polynomial Hermite splines. In the first part, we provide a simple and fast procedure to compute the refinement mask of the Hermite B-splines of any order and in the case of a general scaling factor. Our procedure is solely derived from the polynomial reproduction properties satisfied by Hermite splines and it does not require the explicit construction or evaluation of the basis functions. The second part of the paper discusses the factorization properties of the Hermite B-spline masks in terms of the augmented Taylor operator, which is shown to be the minimal annihilator for the space of discrete monomial Hermite sequences of a fixed degree. All our results can be of use, in particular, in the context of Hermite subdivision schemes and multi-wavelets.

Fractional optimal control problems via a wide class of fractional operators with a general analytic kernel are introduced. Necessary optimality conditions of Pontryagin type for the considered problem are obtained after proving a Gronwall type inequality as well as results on continuity and differentiability of perturbed trajectories. Moreover, a Mangasarian type sufficient global optimality condition for the general analytic kernel fractional optimal control problem is proved. Let Z(s)=(Z1(s),…,Zp(s))t be an isotropic second-order stationary multivariate spatial process. We measure the statistical association between the p random components of Z with the correlation coefficients and measure the spatial dependence with variograms. If two of the Z components are correlated, the spatial information provided by one of them can improve the information of the other. To capture this association, both within components of Z(s) and across s, we use a cross-variogram. Only two robust cross-variogram estimators have been proposed in the literature, both by Lark, and their sample distributions were not obtained. In this paper, we propose new robust cross-variogram estimators, following the location estimation method instead of the scale estimation one considered by Lark, thus extending the results obtained by García-Pérez to the multivariate case. We also obtain accurate approximations for their sample distributions using saddlepoint techniques and assuming a multivariate-scale contaminated normal model. The question of the independence of the transformed variables to avoid the usual dependence of spatial observations is also considered in the paper, linking it with the acceptance of linear variograms and cross-variograms.

The present paper concretizes the models proposed by S. Ri and N. Secelean. S. Ri proposed the construction of the fractal interpolation function (FIF) considering finite systems consisting of Rakotch contractions, but produced no concretization of the model. N. Secelean considered countable systems of Banach contractions to produce the fractal interpolation function. Based on the abovementioned results, in this paper, we propose two different algorithms to produce the fractal interpolation functions both in the affine and non-affine cases. The theoretical context we were working in suppose a countable set of starting points and a countable system of Rakotch contractions. Due to the computational restrictions, the algorithms constructed in the applications have the weakness that they use a finite set of starting points and a finite system of Rakotch contractions. In this respect, the attractor obtained is a two-step approximation. The large number of points used in the computations and the graphical results lead us to the conclusion that the attractor obtained is a good approximation of the fractal interpolation function in both cases, affine and non-affine FIFs. In this way, we also provide a concretization of the scheme presented by C.M. Păcurar.

In this paper, we introduce a new family of efficient and optimal iterative methods for finding multiple roots of nonlinear equations with known multiplicity ( m &ge, 1 ) . We use the weight function approach involving one and two parameters to develop the new family. A comprehensive convergence analysis is studied to demonstrate the optimal eighth-order convergence of the suggested scheme. Finally, numerical and dynamical tests are presented, which validates the theoretical results formulated in this paper and illustrates that the suggested family is efficient among the domain of multiple root finding methods.

This paper is devoted to the study of the Cubic B-splines to find the numerical solution of linear and non-linear 8th order BVPs that arises in the study of astrophysics, magnetic fields, astronomy, beam theory, cylindrical shells, hydrodynamics and hydro-magnetic stability, engineering, applied physics, fluid dynamics, and applied mathematics. The recommended method transforms the boundary problem to a system of linear equations. The algorithm we are going to develop in this paper is not only simply the approximation solution of the 8th order BVPs using Cubic-B spline but it also describes the estimated derivatives of 1st order to 8th order of the analytic solution. The strategy is effectively applied to numerical examples and the outcomes are compared with the existing results. The method proposed in this paper provides better approximations to the exact solution.

A mathematical chaos model for the dynamical behaviors of atmospheric acoustic-gravity waves is considered in this paper. Boundedness and globally attractive sets of this chaos model are studied by means of the generalized Lyapunov function method. The innovation of this paper is that it not only proves this system is globally bounded but also provides a series of global attraction sets of this system. The rate of trajectories entering from the exterior of the trapping domain to its interior is also obtained. Finally, the detailed numerical simulations are carried out to justify theoretical results. The results in this study can be used to study chaos control and chaos synchronization of this chaos system.

This paper constructs the generalized viscosity implicit midpoint rule for nonexpansive mappings in Banach space. It obtains strong convergence conclusions for the proposed algorithm and promotes the related results in this field. Moreover, this paper gives some applications. Finally, the paper gives six numerical examples to support the main results.

The paper shows that, in looking for exact solutions to nonlinear PDEs, the direct method of functional separation of variables can, in certain cases, be more effective than the method of differential constraints based on the compatibility analysis of PDEs with a single constraint (or the nonclassical method of symmetry reductions based on an invariant surface condition). This fact is illustrated by examples of nonlinear reaction-diffusion and convection-diffusion equations with variable coefficients, and nonlinear Klein&ndash, Gordon-type equations. Hydrodynamic boundary layer equations, nonlinear Schr&ouml, dinger type equations, and a few third-order PDEs are also investigated. Several new exact functional separable solutions are given. A possibility of increasing the efficiency of the Clarkson&ndash, Kruskal direct method is discussed. A generalization of the direct method of the functional separation of variables is also described. Note that all nonlinear PDEs considered in the paper include one or several arbitrary functions.

In the fields of continuous casting and the roll stepped cooling, the heat transfer coefficient is piecewise linear. However, few papers discuss the solution of the backward heat conduction problem in this situation. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to solve the backward heat conduction problem, which has the piecewise linear heat transfer coefficient. Firstly, the ill-posed of this problem is discussed and the truncated regularized optimization scheme is introduced to solve this problem. Secondly, because the regularization parameter is the key factor for the regularization method, this paper presents an improved method for choosing the regularization parameter to reduce the iterative number and proves the fourth-order convergence of this method. Furthermore, the numerical simulation experiments show that, compared with other methods, the improved method of fourth-order convergence effectively reduces the iterative number. Finally, the truncated regularized optimization scheme is used to estimate the initial temperature, and the results of numerical simulation experiments illustrate that the inverse values match the exact values very well.

This paper is concerned with a class of the discrete Mackey–Glass model that describes the process of the production of blood cells. Prior to proceeding to the main results, we prove the boundedness and extinction of its solutions. By means of the contraction mapping principle and under appropriate assumptions, we prove the existence of almost periodic positive solutions. Furthermore and by the implementation of the discrete Lyapunov functional, sufficient conditions are established for the exponential convergence of the almost periodic positive solution. Examples, as well as numerical simulations are illustrated to demonstrate the effectiveness of the theoretical findings of the paper. Our results are new and generalize some previously-reported results in the literature.

This paper uses the viscosity implicit midpoint rule to find common points of the fixed point set of a nonexpansive mapping and the zero point set of an accretive operator in Banach space. Under certain conditions, this paper obtains the strong convergence results of the proposed algorithm and improves the relevant results of researchers in this field. In the end, this paper gives numerical examples to support the main results.

This paper introduces a new numerical approach to solving a system of fractional differential equations (FDEs) using the Legendre wavelet operational matrix method (LWOMM). We first formulated the operational matrix of fractional derivatives in some special conditions using some notable characteristics of Legendre wavelets and shifted Legendre polynomials. Then, the system of fractional differential equations was transformed into a system of algebraic equations by using these operational matrices. At the end of this paper, several examples are presented to illustrate the effectivity and correctness of the proposed approach. Comparing the methodology with several recognized methods demonstrates that the advantages of the Legendre wavelet operational matrix method are its accuracy and the understandability of the calculations.

In this paper, we focus on the generalization of the Hurst empirical law and suggest a set of reduced parameters for quantitative description of long-time series. These series are usually considered as a specific response of a complex system (economic, geophysical, electromagnetic and other systems), where successive fixations of external factors become impossible. We consider applying generalized Hurst laws to obtain a new set of reduced parameters in data associated with communication systems. We analyze three hypotheses. The first one contains one power-law exponent. The second one incorporates two power-law exponents, which are in many cases complex-conjugated. The third hypothesis has three power-law exponents, two of which are complex-conjugated as well. These hypotheses describe with acceptable accuracy (relative error does not exceed 2%) a wide set of trendless sequences (TLS) associated with radiometric measurements. Generalized Hurst laws operate with R/S curves not only in the asymptotic region, but in the entire domain. The fitting parameters can be used as the reduced parameters for the description of the given data. The paper demonstrates that this general approach can also be applied to other TLS.

The fractional calculus is useful in describing the natural phenomena with memory effect. This paper addresses the fractional form of Ambartsumian equation with a delay parameter. It may be a challenge to obtain accurate approximate solution of such kinds of fractional delay equations. In the literature, several attempts have been conducted to analyze the fractional Ambartsumian equation. However, the previous approaches in the literature led to approximate power series solutions which converge in subdomains. Such difficulties are solved in this paper via the Homotopy Perturbation Method (HPM). The present approximations are expressed in terms of the Mittag-Leffler functions which converge in the whole domain of the studied model. The convergence issue is also addressed. Several comparisons with the previous published results are discussed. In particular, while the computed solution in the literature is physical in short domains, with our approach it is physical in the whole domain. The results reveal that the HPM is an effective tool to analyzing the fractional Ambartsumian equation.

This paper further improves the Lie group method with Magnus expansion proposed in a previous paper by the authors, to solve some types of direct singular Sturm&ndash, Liouville problems. Next, a concrete implementation to the inverse Sturm&ndash, Liouville problem algorithm proposed by Barcilon (1974) is provided. Furthermore, computational feasibility and applicability of this algorithm to solve inverse Sturm&ndash, Liouville problems of higher order (for n=2,4) are verified successfully. It is observed that the method is successful even in the presence of significant noise, provided that the assumptions of the algorithm are satisfied. In conclusion, this work provides a method that can be adapted successfully for solving a direct (regular/singular) or inverse Sturm&ndash, Liouville problem (SLP) of an arbitrary order with arbitrary boundary conditions.

Adding a linear trend in regressions is a frequent detrending method in economic literatures. The traditional literatures pointed out that if the variable considered is a difference-stationary process, then it will artificially create pseudo-periodicity in the residuals. In this paper, we further show that the real problem might be more serious. As the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) estimators themselves are of such a detrending method is spurious. The first part provides a mathematical proof with Chebyshev&rsquo, s inequality and Sims&ndash, Stock&ndash, Watson&rsquo, s algorithm to show that the OLS estimator of trend converges toward zero in probability, and the other OLS estimator diverges when the sample size tends to infinity. The second part designs Monte Carlo simulations with a sample size of 1,000,000 as an approximation of infinity. The seed values used are the true random numbers generated by a hardware random number generator in order to avoid the pseudo-randomness of random numbers given by software. This paper repeats the experiment 100 times, and gets consistent results with mathematical proof. The last part provides a brief discussion of detrending strategies.

In the paper, a survey of the main results concerning univariate and multivariate exponential power (EP) distributions is given, with main attention paid to mixture representations of these laws. The properties of mixing distributions are considered and some asymptotic results based on mixture representations for EP and related distributions are proved. Unlike the conventional analytical approach, here the presentation follows the lines of a kind of arithmetical approach in the space of random variables or vectors. Here the operation of scale mixing in the space of distributions is replaced with the operation of multiplication in the space of random vectors/variables under the assumption that the multipliers are independent. By doing so, the reasoning becomes much simpler, the proofs become shorter and some general features of the distributions under consideration become more vivid. The first part of the paper concerns the univariate case. Some known results are discussed and simple alternative proofs for some of them are presented as well as several new results concerning both EP distributions and some related topics including an extension of Gleser’s theorem on representability of the gamma distribution as a mixture of exponential laws and limit theorems on convergence of the distributions of maximum and minimum random sums to one-sided EP distributions and convergence of the distributions of extreme order statistics in samples with random sizes to the one-sided EP and gamma distributions. The results obtained here open the way to deal with natural multivariate analogs of EP distributions. In the second part of the paper, we discuss the conventionally defined multivariate EP distributions and introduce the notion of projective EP (PEP) distributions. The properties of multivariate EP and PEP distributions are considered as well as limit theorems establishing the conditions for the convergence of multivariate statistics constructed from samples with random sizes (including random sums of random vectors) to multivariate elliptically contoured EP and projective EP laws. The results obtained here give additional theoretical grounds for the applicability of EP and PEP distributions as asymptotic approximations for the statistical regularities observed in data in many fields.

In the present paper, we consider an important problem from the point of view of application in sciences and engineering, namely, a new class of nonlinear Love-equation with infinite memory in the presence of source term that takes general nonlinearity form. New minimal conditions on the relaxation function and the relationship between the weights of source term are used to show a very general decay rate for solution by certain properties of convex functions combined with some estimates. Investigations on the propagation of surface waves of Love-type have been made by many authors in different models and many attempts to solve Love&rsquo, s equation have been performed, in view of its wide applicability. To our knowledge, there are no decay results for damped equations of Love waves or Love type waves. However, the existence of solution or blow up results, with different boundary conditions, have been extensively studied by many authors. Our interest in this paper arose in the first place in consequence of a query for a new decay rate, which is related to those for infinite memory &piv, in the third section. We found that the system energy decreased according to a very general rate that includes all previous results.

In this paper, we study the mean-square exponential input-to-state stability (exp-ISS) problem for a new class of neural network (NN) models, i.e., continuous-time stochastic memristive quaternion-valued neural networks (SMQVNNs) with time delays. Firstly, in order to overcome the difficulties posed by non-commutative quaternion multiplication, we decompose the original SMQVNNs into four real-valued models. Secondly, by constructing suitable Lyapunov functional and applying It o ^ &rsquo, s formula, Dynkin&rsquo, s formula as well as inequity techniques, we prove that the considered system model is mean-square exp-ISS. In comparison with the conventional research on stability, we derive a new mean-square exp-ISS criterion for SMQVNNs. The results obtained in this paper are the general case of previously known results in complex and real fields. Finally, a numerical example has been provided to show the effectiveness of the obtained theoretical results.

The aim of this paper is to study the Lagrange interpolation on the unit circle taking only into account the separation properties of the nodal points. The novelty of this paper is that we do not consider nodal systems connected with orthogonal or paraorthogonal polynomials, which is an interesting approach because in practical applications this connection may not exist. A detailed study of the properties satisfied by the nodal system and the corresponding nodal polynomial is presented. We obtain the relevant results of the convergence related to the process for continuous smooth functions as well as the rate of convergence. Analogous results for interpolation on the bounded interval are deduced and finally some numerical examples are presented.

In this paper, first, we introduce a path for a convex combination of a pseudocontractive type of mappings with a perturbed mapping and prove strong convergence of the proposed path in a real reflexive Banach space having a weakly continuous duality mapping. Second, we propose two modified implicit iterative methods with a perturbed mapping for a continuous pseudocontractive mapping in the same Banach space. Strong convergence theorems for the proposed iterative methods are established. The results in this paper substantially develop and complement the previous well-known results in this area.

The convergence using the fuzzy semi-metric and dual fuzzy semi-metric is studied in this paper. The infimum type of dual fuzzy semi-metric and the supremum type of dual fuzzy semi-metric are proposed in this paper. Based on these two types of dual fuzzy semi-metrics, the different types of triangle inequalities can be obtained. We also study the convergence of these two types of dual fuzzy semi-metrics.
