Spring linkage can be applied to in-pipe robots for connecting different modules together and can make it pass through elbows more easily. However, its stiffness cannot be set to be too hard or too soft. This paper tries to make a balance between the compressive stiffness and the bending stiffness of the spring. After a brief introduction to the construction mechanism and some assumptions, the mathematical representation of the spring bending stiffness was deduced based on the Kirchhoff theory which describes the spatial curve with displacement rather than time. Then, some simulations aiming at verifying the correctness of the deduced bending stiffness expression were carried out. Finally, the relationship between the two rigidities was found out, which helps to find a way to decrease the bending stiffness of spring while keeping its compressive stiffness strong enough. In order to analyze the displacement and stress of thin plate for cement concrete pavement with rectangle shape and resting on Winkler soil foundation, an analysis model was set up based on the theory of elastic thin plate on Winkler foundation. According to elasticity Kirchhoff theory of thin plates and Winkler soil foundation model, the expressions of displacement and stress were yielded by using the inverse Hankel transform. Numerical method was employed to calculate displacement and stress of the thin plate. Results showed that displacement and stress corresponded with using the method from Code for Highway Design-Pavement. A reliable approach based on modified facet-based model and Vector Radiative Transfer theory is presented to calculate electromagnetic scattering from a particular electrically large sea surface superimposed with foams, which can handily give both monostatic and bistatic scattering results and could be applied to synthetic aperture radar imagery simulation. The facet model is derived from Fuks’ first-order small perturbation method function, and then the Kirchhoff model is introduced to revise the results in view of the dependency on cut-off wave number at near vertical incidence angles. Additionally, the contributions of foams are taken into consideration on the basis of Vector Radiative Transfer theory. The accuracy and superiority of this proposed approach are demonstrated in comparison with traditional facet model, which illustrates that the results of this approach agree better with experimental results. We consider the Robin-Dirichlet problem for a nonlinear wave equation of Kirchhoff-Carrier type. Using the Faedo-Galerkin method and the linearization method for nonlinear terms, the existence and uniqueness of a weak solution are proved. This research purposed a new family of finite elements for spherical thick shell based on Nzengwa-Tagne’s model proposed in 1999. The model referred to hereafter as N-T model contains the classical Kirchhoff-Love (K-L) kinematic with additional terms related to the third fundamental form governing strain energy. Transverse shear stresses are computed and C0 finite element is proposed for numerical implementation. However, using straight line triangular elements does not guarantee a correct computation of stress across common edges of adjacent elements because of gradient jumps. The gradient recovery method known as Polynomial Preserving Recovery (PPR) is used for local interpolation and applied on a hemisphere under diametrically opposite charges. A good agreement of convergence results is observed; numerical results are compared to other results obtained with the classical K-L thin shell theory. Moreover, simulation on increasing values of the ratio of the shell shows impact of the N-T model especially on transverse stresses because of the significant energy contribution due to the third fundamental form tensor present in the kinematics of this model. The characterization of a class of electrical circuits is carried out in terms of both stability properties and steady-state behavior. The main contribution is the interpretation of the electrical topology (how the elements that conform the circuits are interconnected) in terms of mathematical properties derived from the structure of their models. In this sense, at what extent the topology by itself defines the dynamic behavior of the systems is explained. The study is based on the graph theory allowing capturing, departing from the well-known Kirchhoff laws, the topology of the circuits into several matrices with specific structure. The algebraic analysis of these matrices permits identifying conditions that determine whether the system is stable in the sense of Lyapunov and the kind of steady-state behavior that it exhibits. We analyse the buckling process of composite plates with through-the-width delamination and straight crack front applying uniaxial compression. We are focusing on the mixed mode buckling case, where the non-uniform distribution of the in-plane forces controls the occurence of the buckling of the delaminated layers. For the analysis, semi-discrete finite elements will be derived based on the Lèvy-type method. Since 1960s, how to develop high-performance plate bending finite elements based on different plate theories has attracted a great deal of attention from finite element researchers, and numerous models have been successfully constructed. Among these elements, the most popular models are usually formulated by two theoretical bases: the Kirchhoff plate theory and the Mindlin-Reissener plate theory. Due to the advantages that only C0 continuity is required and the effect of transverse shear strain can be included, the latter one seems more rational and has obtained more attention. Through abundant works, different types of Mindlin-Reissener plate models emerged in many literatures and have been applied to solve various engineering problems. However, it also brings FEM users a puzzle of how to choose a “right” one. The main purpose of this paper is to present an overview of the development history of the Mindlin-Reissner plate elements, exhibiting the state-of-art in this research field. Acceleration adds negative effect to Hemispherical Resonator Gyro (HRG) output; therefore, it is important to model the influence and then make necessary compensations, accordingly. Based on the elastic thin-shell theory under the Kirchhoff-Love assumption, the acceleration influence on HRG forcing system is modeled and then schemes for incentive are suggested. Firstly, the dynamic model of resonator is introduced. Then, inertial load and electrostatic force are calculated to obtain the deformation of resonator. At last, schemes for pickoff incentive are proposed to weaken the effect of acceleration on HRG forcer. The simulation results illustrate that acceleration has negative effects on the exciting confidents of forcers and the proposed scheme can eliminate the acceleration influence on forcing system. Simultaneously, considering the viscous effect of material, damping of medium, and rotational inertia, we study a kind of more general Kirchhoff-type extensible beam equation utt-uxxtt+uxxxx-σ(∫0l‍(ux)2dx)uxx-ϕ(∫0l‍(ux)2dx)uxxt=q(x), in  [0,L]×R+ with the structural damping and the rotational inertia term. Little attention is paid to the longtime behavior of the beam equation under nonlinear boundary conditions. In this paper, under nonlinear boundary conditions, we prove not only the existence and uniqueness of global solutions by prior estimates combined with some inequality skills, but also the existence of a global attractor by the existence of an absorbing set and asymptotic compactness of corresponding solution semigroup. Based on the Kirchhoff transformation, a nonoverlapping domain decomposition method is discussed for solving exterior anisotropic quasilinear problems with elliptic artificial boundary. By the principle of the natural boundary reduction, we obtain the natural integral equation for the anisotropic quasilinear problem on elliptic artificial boundaries and construct the algorithm and analyze its convergence.
