Abstract: The crystal structures of two PbSb2O6-type compounds containing titanium, CdTi2O4(OH)2 and LaTiSbO6 were refined by X-ray powder diffraction data. For both compounds structure refinements with the space group were successful and the R-factors were R WP =6.46% and R P =4.90% for CdTi2O4(OH)2 and R WP =9.55% and R P =7.17% for LaTiSbO6. These crystal structures were the same as that of the typical PbSb2O6-type compound in spite of the existence of protons in the interlayer or two different metal ions in the layer. Abstract: Single crystals of a new tin titanate containing Sn2+, Sn2TiO4 was prepared by high temperature reaction in an evacuated quartz tube and its crystal structure was determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction data. The tin titanate crystallizes in the tetragonal space group P42/mbc with a =8.490(2) and c =5.923(3)Å, Z =4 and the final R factors are R =0.0497 and R w =0.0676 for 354 unique reflections. This tin titanate is isostructural with the low temperature form of Pb3O4(Pb2 2+Pb4+O4). This compound was oxidized above 600°C accompanying the mass gain and finally changed to rutile-type solid solution (Sn,Ti)O2. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: Hexagonal cobalt hydroxide (β-Co(OH)2) nanosheets over a size range from 100nm to 1μm were synthesized using a very simple hydrothermal route with cobalt naphthenate as the cobalt source. Additionally, hexagonal cobalt oxide (Co3O4) nanorings over a size range from 100nm to 1μm consisting of cubic nanocrystals were obtained via a hydrothermal method using as-prepared β-Co(OH)2 nanosheets as the precursors. A probable mechanism of formation of the hexagonal Co3O4 nanorings is proposed on the basis of time-dependent experimental results. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
