The paper evaluates the possibility of using dissimilar materials joined by welding technology in the construction of agricultural machinery. The desire to design larger and more efficient structures requires designers to combine materials with different mechanical and structural properties. In such a case, it is very important to properly select welding parameters so that, on the one hand, the quality of the joint meets the standard requirements, and on the other, the welding process is not too energy-intensive. In this paper, overlay joints connecting S355 steel with Strenx 700 steel were analyzed in terms of strength for three different values of welding parameters and different thicknesses. The starting point was the reference parameters recommended by the company's welding technologists, which were reduced by 10 and 20% according to the linear welding energy. The study compared the strength, ductility and macrostructure of the joints, as well as the energy intensity of the process. The proposed dissimilar joints achieved approximately a 10% increase in the strength limit of the components in comparison to the previously recommended welding parameters. Additionally, finite element analysis calculations of the improved designs showed significant weight reduction (up to 40%) for the relevant agricultural machinery components.

The current study investigates the load controlled fatigue properties of the microplasma arc welded thin titanium Grade 5 (6Al-4V) sheets. In order to explore the effect of weld geometry on the fatigue, two different welded joints were used in the experimental studies. Load controlled fatigue test results were evaluated to present an outlook on the behaviour of microplasma welded titanium alloy Grade 5 sheets under cyclic loading. Even though the previously published monotonic tests showed successful use of microplasma arc welding to join thin titanium Grade 5 sheets with mechanical properties comparable to the base metal, fatigue life of the welded joints was lower than the lives of samples without welds. In particular, the fatigue performance of overlap joints was very poor. This was presumed to be due to the changed material properties of the heat affected zone which was formed by the excess heat of the welding process as fractures often occurred at such locations. Based on experimental findings and fractographic observations, a clear adverse effect of welding process in material behaviour was discovered. Despite the concentrated heat of microplasma arc welding, post-weld heat treatment of the weld area is recommended to improve the mechanical behaviour of the welded joints.

The paper presents an original method for estimating the shrink sleeve label compressive force on packaging. One of the most popular methods of measuring deformations was used, i.e., the electrical resistance strain gauge measurement. It was assumed that the packaging was a thin-walled axially symmetrical vessel. The packing walls on one side are loaded with internal pressure generated by heating the liquid contained inside the packaging. On the other side, the film shrinking on the packaging generates additional deformation. By measuring the changes in circumferential deformations in the shrinking process at various packaging heights, it is possible to infer the uniformity of the film compressive force. Results of research on changes of these deformations over time with different intensity values of the shrinkage medium were presented.
