The aim of this study is to promote the application of the excited zeolite powder (ZP)with aeolian sand powder (ASP) in the field of aeolian-sand concrete (ASC) production. This study utilises NaOH to treat composite cementitious materials containing aeolian sand and zeolite powders, which were used to replace 50% of the cement in aeolian-sand concrete (ASC). Production of alkali-inspired cement-based windswept concrete(AAZC).The mechanical properties of treated ASC considerably improved, especially when the NaOH dosage was 4% by mass. After curing this sample (denoted as AAZC-4) for 28 d, its compressive strength improved by 17.2%, and its split tensile increased by 16.3%. Potassium feldspar and montmorillonite in zeolite powder and SiO2 in the sand were decomposed by OH− and combined with other elements to generate various silicate gels and A-type potassium zeolite crystals inside the concrete. Microscopic examination showed that the gels and crystals intertwined to fill the pores, decreasing (increasing) the percentage of large (small) pores, thus optimising the pore structure. This substantially improved the mechanical properties of ASC. Freeze–thaw salt-intrusion tests showed that the extent of mass loss, degree of damage and loss of compressive strength of AAZC-4 were similar to those of ordinary concrete but were reduced by 36.8%, 19% and 52.1%, respectively, compared with those of ASC. The application of recycled coarse aggregate (RA) in structural concrete can save non-renewable resources and reduce land occupation. Developing comprehensive knowledge of chloride penetration and service life modeling of recycled coarse aggregate concrete (RAC) is a prerequisite for practice. However, compared with the natural aggregate concrete (NAC), the inferior durability performance, especially chloride penetration resistance, of RAC hinders its application in structural concrete. Therefore, many RAC performance enhancement methods have been proposed. This paper presents a holistic review focused on the chloride penetration of RAC with/without enhancement methods and service life prediction. The current RAC performance enhancement methods are introduced. The improvement effect of the corresponding enhancement methods on the chloride penetration resistance of RAC are discussed and analyzed in turn. Based on the reviewed data on the chloride diffusion coefficient, the modification efficiencies of assorted enhancement methods are summarized. With the hope of promoting RAC application in structural concrete, the current literature on chloride-ingress-based service life prediction for RAC is also overviewed. In addition, the typical influencing factors on chloride transport properties are also discussed, i.e., RA quality. It can be concluded that enhancement techniques can effectively improve the chloride penetration resistance of RAC. The old mortar enhancement or removal methods can improve the chloride penetration resistance by 15–30%, depending on the specific treatment measures. The modification efficiency of the modifier material depends on the specific type and content of the incorporated substance, which ranges from approximately 5% to 95%. The estimated service life of RAC structures decreases with the increasing RA replacement ratio. The effective use of waste materials is one of the key drivers in ensuring sustainability within the construction industry. This paper investigates the viability and efficacy of sustainably incorporating a polylactic acid-type plastic (WP) as a 10 mm natural coarse aggregate (NA) replacement in geopolymer concrete. Two types of concrete (ordinary Portland cement—OPC and geopolymer) were produced for completeness using a concrete formulation ratio of 1:2:3. The ordinary concrete binder control was prepared using 100% OPC at a water/binder ratio of 0.55, while the geopolymer concrete control used an optimum alkaline activator/precursor—A/P ratio (0.5) and sodium silicate to sodium hydroxide—SS/SH volume ratio (1.2/0.8). Using the same binder quantity as the control, four concrete batches were developed by replacing 10 mm NA with WP at 30 and 70 wt% for ordinary and geopolymer concrete. The mechanical performance of the developed concrete was assessed according to their appropriate standards, while a microstructural investigation was employed after 28 days of curing to identify any morphological changes and hydrated phases. The results illustrate the viability of incorporating WP in geopolymer concrete production at up to 70 wt% replacement despite some negative impacts on concrete performance. From a mechanical perspective, geopolymer concrete indicated a 46.7–58.3% strength development superiority over ordinary concrete with or without WP. The sample composition and texture quantified using automated scanning electron microscopy indicated that adding WP reduced the presence of pores within the microstructure of both concrete types. However, this was detrimental to the ordinary concrete due to the low interfacial zone (ITZ) between calcium silicate hydrate (CSH) gel and WP, resulting in the formation of cracks. Manganese slag (MS) is a kind of chemical waste, which may pollute the environment if conventional handling methods (stacking and landfill) are applied. Ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC)—with considerably high compactness and strength—can be used not only as a special concrete material, but also to solidify the toxic substances in solid waste. This study proposes the addition of MS to UHPC, where the mass ratio of MS varies from 0% to 40% in the total mass of MS and silica fume. The effects of MS on the fluidity, plastic viscosity, and yield shear stress are investigated, and the flexural strength, compressive strength, and dry shrinkage rate of UHPC with MS are measured. X-ray diffraction (XRD) spectrum and energy spectrum analysis (EDS) diagrams are obtained to analyze the performance mechanism of the UHPC. A rheological study confirms that the slump flow increases with the increasing rate of 0–14.3%, while the yield shear stress and plastic viscosity decrease with the rates of 0–29.6% and 0–22.2%, respectively. The initial setting time increases with the mass ratio of MS by 0–14.3%, and MS has a positive effect on the flexural and compressive strengths of UHPC. In the early curing stage (less than 14 days), the increasing rate in the specimens increases with the curing age; meanwhile, when the curing age reaches 14 days or higher, the increasing rate decreases with increasing curing age. In this paper, firstly, the effects of graphene oxide on the mechanical properties of concrete were investigated. Secondly, the degradation and mechanism of the mechanical properties of graphene oxide concrete (GOC) under sulfate attack and a freeze–thaw environment were investigated. In addition, the dynamic modulus of elasticity (MOEdy) and uniaxial compressive strength (UCS) of the GOC were measured under different environmental conditions. According to the test results, the incorporation of graphene oxide in appropriate admixtures could improve the mechanical properties of concrete in these two working environments. It is worth noting that this effect is most pronounced when 0.05 wt% graphene oxide is incorporated. In the sulfate attack environment, the MOEdy and UTS of the GOC0.05% specimen at 120 cycles decreased by 22.28% and 24.23%, respectively, compared with the normal concrete specimens. In the freeze–thaw environment, the MOEdy and UTS of the GOC0.05% specimen at 90 cycles decreased by 13.96% and 7.58%, respectively, compared with the normal concrete specimens. The scanning electron microscope (SEM) analysis showed that graphene oxide could adjust the aggregation state of cement hydration products and its own reaction with some cement hydration crystals to form strong covalent bonds, thereby improving and enhancing the microstructure density. The goal of this paper is to investigate the impact of nano-materials on the mechanical and electrochemical properties of self-cleaning concrete. Nano-titanium dioxide and nano-zinc oxide were used as additives for this purpose. Additionally, a comparative study on the effect of using these materials on the self-cleaning concrete's characteristics was conducted. The dosages of nano-titanium dioxide (nps-TiO2) and nano-zinc oxide (nps-ZnO) used were 0, 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2, and 2.5% and 0, 1, 2, and 3% of the weight of the cement, respectively. The results showed that the optimum compressive strength and the lowest corrosion rate were fulfilled at 2.5% of nps-TiO2 and 1% of nps-ZnO, and using 2.5% of nps-TiO2 achieved the highest improvement in the corrosion rate. However, 1% for nps-TiO2 mixtures and 1% for nps-ZnO mixtures were the best ratios for flexural strength. On the other hand, for the corrosion rate, the samples were tested at 2 and 6 months. When nps-TiO2 and nps-ZnO samples were compared to the control sample, 2.5% and 1% of nps-TiO2 and nps-ZnO, respectively, showed the largest improvement in resistance to corrosion. Also, the self-cleaning property of the samples containing nano-materials (nps-TiO2 and nps-ZnO) was tested. As the results illustrated, the self-cleaning property of the samples was increased over time due to photocatalytic degradation. This paper presents experimental results on the influence of concrete composition factors on the criterion characterizing the ratio between the compressive strength of activated low-cement concrete and clinker consumption. The investigation was carried out using mathematical planning of the experiments. Experimental and statistical models describing the influence of the fly ash, activating additive (microsilica), consumption of cement and aggregates, as well as the superplasticizer on the strength of low-cement concrete under normal hardening conditions and after steaming were obtained. The values of the clinker efficiency criterion and the mineral additive cementing efficiency coefficient were calculated, and models of these parameters were obtained for the investigated concrete compositions. It was shown that the activating effect of microsilica yields an increase in ash cementing efficiency and clinker efficiency criterion in concrete. Durable concrete significantly reduces the spalling caused by chemical damage. The objective of current research is to substitute cement with supplementary such as fly ash (FA), ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS), and alccofine (AF). Additionally, the impact of nano-silica (NS) and silica fumes (SF) on the GPC durability when cured at various temperatures has been attempted. In order to perform this, GPC samples were produced by combining NS and SF at proportions of 0.5% NS + 5% SF, 1% NS + 10% SF, and 1.5% NS + 15% SF, and then cured at temperatures of 27 °C, 60 °C, 90 °C, and 120 °C, respectively. In this research, all concrete specimens were continuously immersed for twelve weeks under four different chemicals, i.e., HCl (2%), H2SO4 (2%), NaCl (6%), and Na2SO4 (6%). The influence of chemical attack on the qualities of concrete was examined by evaluating the water absorption, sorptivity, loss of mass, and loss of GPC strength. The durability aspect is also studied by visual appearance and mass loss under harmful chemical attack. The combination of GPC with integrated NS and SF affords great resistance against chemical attacks. The percentages of these two components are 1.5% and 15%. This article demonstrates the possibility of producing hybrid cementitious materials (pastes, mortars, concretes, and precast elements) based on fly ash (FA) and construction and demolition wastes (CDW) using alkaline activation technology. Sodium sulfate was used as an activator and fine and coarse aggregates were obtained from CDW residues. An addition of Portland cement (OPC) (10 to 30%) allowed for improvement in the mechanical behavior of the hybrid cements and them to be cured at room temperature (25 °C). The FA and CDW cementitious materials obtained compressive strengths of 37 MPa and 32 MPa, respectively. The compressive strength of FA and CDW alkali-activated concretes at 28 days of curing was 22 MPa and 18 MPa, respectively, which identifies them as structural concretes according to NSR-10 title C in Colombia. Fracture behavior is one of the key properties to study concrete cracking under sodium chloride attack exposed to the freeze–thaw cycles environment, which is frequently neglected. In this paper, 24 single edge notch beam specimens and 24 cubes were poured. The corresponding freeze–thaw cycles test in sodium chloride solution, standard cube compressive strength of concrete test, and three-point-bending tests were carried out. The research revealed that the fracture toughness, fracture energy, relative dynamic modulus of elasticity, and standard cube compressive strength were decreased by increasing freeze–thaw cycles under sodium chloride attack, and the damage degree of concrete caused by sodium chloride solution was deeper than that of pure water. In particular, there existed good linear correlation between the fracture behavior and imposed freeze–thaw damage for various solution. Recent years have witnessed a growing global interest in 3D concrete printing technology due to its economic and scientific advantages. The application of foamed concrete, renowned for its exceptional thermal and acoustic insulation properties, not only holds economic attractiveness but also aligns seamlessly with the principles of sustainable development. This study explores various solutions related to 3D printing technology in construction, discussing the design, production, and properties of foamed concrete mixtures. The integration of 3D printing and the potential for automating the entire process offers opportunities to boost productivity and reduce construction costs. Furthermore, the utilization of foamed concrete with its commendable insulation properties will enable a reduction in the usage of materials other than concrete (e.g., mineral wool, facade mesh, and polystyrene), significantly facilitating the recycling process during building demolition. This, in turn, will lead to the preservation of nonrenewable natural resources and a decrease in CO2 emissions. Despite the promising results, there have been limited studies focusing on 3D printing with foamed materials, whereas a survey of the existing body of literature indicates a notable absence of endeavors pertaining to the utilization of aerated concrete within the realm of 3D printing, especially geopolymer composites (GP) and hybrid geopolymer composites (HGP). The outcomes delineated in the ensuing discourse are demonstrative for conventionally used materials rather than the additive manufacturing variant. Hence, this work aims to systematically review existing practices and techniques related to producing foamed concrete with 3D printing technology. This analysis also contributes to the establishment of a foundational framework and furnishes a preliminary basis upon which future endeavors aimed at the 3D printing of aerated concrete can be embarked. The findings from the literature analysis justify the desirability of continuing research on this topic, particularly when considering the potential for large-scale industrial implementation. This article provides a comprehensive state of the knowledge on the development of 3D printing techniques for foamed concrete mixtures. By consolidating and analyzing findings from different studies, this article offers insights into the advancements, challenges, and potential applications of foamed concrete in additive manufacturing processes. The wide distribution of alpine saline areas in China is faced with two major problems, which are salt intrusion and freeze–thaw. In total, 216 specimens were prepared with 6 kinds of concrete mix proportions in this paper. The effects of the single and compound incorporation of metakaolin (MK) and polypropylene fiber (PPF) of different amounts on the mechanical properties and microstructure properties of concrete were investigated under the dual action of multi-salt (NaCl, MgCl2, Na2SO4, and NaHCO3) soaking and freeze–thaw. Potable water and freeze–thaw concrete were adopted as the control group. Changes in the appearance morphology, mass loss, relative dynamic elastic modulus, and compressive strength of the concrete were tested, and the microstructure of the concrete was analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results showed that an admixture of both MK and PPF in the potable water and freeze–thaw cycle test can improve the mechanical properties and frost resistance of concrete. The admixture of PPF can effectively improve the mechanical properties and frost resistance of concrete. However, the admixture of MK failed to improve the mechanical properties and frost resistance of concrete during multi-salt soaking and freeze–thaw. The frost resistance of concrete under multi-salt soaking and freeze–thaw was optimally improved with 10% MK and 0.6 kg/m3 PPF. Fine dust, recently classified as a carcinogen, has raised concerns about the health effects of air pollution. Vehicle emissions, particularly nitrogen oxide (NOx), contribute to ultrafine dust formation as a fine dust precursor. A photocatalyst, such as titanium dioxide (TiO2), is a material that causes a catalytic reaction when exposed to light, has exceptional characteristics such as decomposition of pollutants, and can be used permanently. This study aimed to investigate NOx reduction performance by developing ecofriendly permeable concrete with photocatalytic treatment to reduce fine dust generated from road mobile pollution sources. Permeable concrete specimens containing an activated loess and zeolite admixture were prepared and subjected to mechanical and durability tests. All specimens, including the control (CTRL) and admixture, met quality standard SPS-F-KSPIC-001-2006 for road pavement. Slip resistance and permeability coefficient also satisfied the standards, while freeze–thaw evaluation criteria were met only by CTRL and A1Z1 specimens. NOx reduction performance of the permeable concrete treated with TiO2 photocatalyst was assessed using ISO standard and tank chambers. NOx reduction efficiency of up to 77.5% was confirmed in the permeable concrete specimen with TiO2 content of 7.5%. Nitrate concentration measurements indirectly confirmed photolysis of nitrogen oxide. Incorporating TiO2 in construction materials such as roads and sidewalks can improve the atmospheric environment for pedestrians near roads by reducing NOx levels through photocatalysis. The durability of concrete requires a dense microstructure which can be achieved by using self-compacting concrete (SCC). Both calcined clay (CC) and rice husk ash (RHA) are promising supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) that can partially replace cement, but their use in SCC is critical due to their higher water demand (WD) and specific surface area (SSA) compared to cement. The effect of partial substitution of cement at 20 vol-% with binary and ternary blends of CC and RHA on flowability retention and durability of SCC was investigated. The empirical method of SCC design was adopted considering the physical properties of both CC and RHA. The deformability of the SCC was evaluated using the slump flow and J-ring tests. The T500 time and the V-funnel test were used to assess the viscosity of the SCC. The flowability retention was monitored by the plunger method, and flow resistance was determined based on the rheological measurements of SCC. The evolution of the hydrate phases of the binder in SCC was determined by thermogravimetric analysis, while the durability was evaluated by a rapid chloride migration test. Cement partial replacement with 20 vol-% CC has no significant effect on fresh SCC, flowability retention, compressive strength and durability properties. On the other hand, 20 vol-% RHA requires a higher dosage of SP to achieve self-compactability and increase the viscosity of SCC. Its flowability retention is only up to 30 min after mixing and exhibited higher flow resistance. It consumes more calcium hydroxide (CH) and improves the compressive strength and chloride resistance of SCC. The ternary blending with CC and RHA yielded better fresh SCC properties compared to the binary blend with RHA, while an improved chloride penetration resistance could be achieved compared to the binary CC blend. This paper discusses an innovative APS hollow block wall with a frame made of concrete modified with recycled materials. The technical data of the hollow block, the percentages of the recycled materials, including SBR rubber granules and PET flakes in the modified concrete, and the composition of the concrete modified with this mixture of recycled additives, are presented. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the solution in reducing mechanical vibrations, the effect of the interaction of different frequencies of the mechanical wave on reducing these vibrations was evaluated for APS blocks and Alpha comparison blocks. The test was carried out on a developed test stand dedicated to dynamic measurements for sixteen frequencies in the range from 8 to 5000 Hz, forcing a sinusoidal course of vibrations. The results are presented graphically and show that the new type of APS hollow block wall was much more effective in reducing mechanical vibrations. This efficiency was in the range from 10 to 51% for 12 out of the tested 16 frequencies. For the frequencies of 8, 16, 128, and 2000 Hz, the values were obtained with a difference of 3.58% in favor of the APS hollow block. In addition, the study of the damping effectiveness of the APS hollow blocks, in relation to the vibrations generated by an M-400 impact mill, showed that the APS block wall had a higher damping efficiency of 16.87% compared to the Alpha hollow block for the signal reading on the floor next to the mill, and 18.68% for the signal reading on the mill body. The modified concrete used in the production of the APS hollow blocks enabled the effective use of two recycled materials, SBR rubber and polyethylene terephthalate, in the form of PET flakes. This study investigates the possibility of utilising bottom slag (BS) waste from landfills, and a carbonation process advantageous for the use of artificial aggregates (AAs) in printed three-dimensional (3D) concrete composites. In general, the main idea of granulated aggregates is to reduce the amount of CO2 emissions of printed 3D concrete objects (wall). AAs are made from construction materials, both granulated and carbonated. Granules are made from a combination of binder (ordinary Portland cement (OPC), hydrated lime, burnt shale ash (BSA)) and waste material (BS). BS is a waste material left over after the municipal waste burning process in cogeneration power plants. Whole printed 3D concrete composite manufacturing consists of: granulating artificial aggregate, aggregate hardening and sieving (adaptive granulometer), carbonation of AA, mixing 3D concrete, and 3D printing. The granulating and printing processes were analysed for hardening processes, strength results, workability parameters, and physical and mechanical properties. Printings with no granules (reference 3D printed concrete) were compared to 3D printed concretes with 25% and 50% of their natural aggregate replaced with carbonated AA. The results showed that, theoretically, the carbonation process could help to react approximately 126 kg/m3 CO2 from 1 m3 of granules. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Methyl methacrylate (MMA) material is considered to be a suitable material for repairing concrete crack, provided that its large volume shrinkage during polymerization is resolved. This study was dedicated to investigating the effect of low shrinkage additives polyvinyl acetate and styrene (PVAc + styrene) on properties of the repair material and further proposes the shrinkage reduction mechanism based on the data of FTIR spectra, DSC testing and SEM micrographs. The results showed that PVAc + styrene delayed the gel point during the polymerization, and the formation of two-phase structure and micropores compensated for the volume shrinkage of the material. When the proportion of PVAc + styrene was 12%, the volume shrinkage could be as low as 4.78%, and the shrinkage stress was reduced by 87.4%. PVAc + styrene improved the bending strength and fracture toughness of most ratios investigated in this study. When 12% PVAc + styrene was added, the 28 d flexural strength and fracture toughness of MMA-based repair material were 28.04 MPa and 92.18%, respectively. After long-term curing, the repair material added with 12% PVAc + styrene showed a good adhesion to the substrate, with a bonding strength greater than 4.1 MPa and the fracture surface appearing at the substrate after the bonding experiment. This work contributes to the obtaining of a MMA-based repair material with low shrinkage, while its viscosity and other properties also can meet the requirements for repairing microcracks. The search for new sources of high-quality non-crystalline silica as a construction material for high-performance concrete has attracted the interest of researchers for several decades. Numerous investigations have shown that highly reactive silica can be produced from rice husk, an agricultural waste that is abundantly available in the world. Among others, the production of rice husk ash (RHA) by chemical washing with hydrochloric acid prior to the controlled combustion process has been reported to provide higher reactivity because such a process removes alkali metal impurities from RHA and provides an amorphous structure with higher surface area. This paper presents an experimental work in which a highly reactive rice husk ash (TRHA) is prepared and evaluated as a replacement for Portland cement in high-performance concretes. The performance of RHA and TRHA was compared with that of conventional silica fume (SF). Experimental results showed that the increase in compressive strength of concrete with TRHA was clearly observed at all ages, generally higher than 20% of the strength obtained with the control concrete. The increase in flexural strength was even more significant, showing that concrete with RHA, TRHA and SF increased by 20%, 46%, and 36%, respectively. Some synergistic effect was observed when polyethylene–polypropylene fiber was used for concrete with TRHA and SF. The chloride ion penetration results also indicated that the use of TRHA had similar performance compared to that of SF. Based on the results of statistical analysis, the performance of TRHA is found to be identical to that of SF. This study presents a comparison of the protective properties of three concretes of similar composition on the effect of chloride ions. To determine these properties, the values of the diffusion and migration coefficients of chloride ions in concrete were determined using both standard methods and the thermodynamic ion migration model. We tested a comprehensive method for checking the protective properties of concrete against chlorides. This method can not only be used in various concretes, even those with only small differences in composition, but also in concretes with various types of admixtures and additives, such as PVA fibers. The research was carried out to address the needs of a manufacturer of prefabricated concrete foundations. The aim was to find a cheap and effective method of sealing the concrete produced by the manufacturer in order to carry out projects in coastal areas. Earlier diffusion studies showed good performance when replacing ordinary CEM I cement with metallurgical cement. The corrosion rates of the reinforcing steel in these concretes were also compared using the following electrochemical methods: linear polarization and impedance spectroscopy. The porosities of these concretes, determined using X-ray computed tomography for pore-related characterization, were also compared. Changes in the phase composition of corrosion products occurring in the steel–concrete contact zone were compared using scanning electron microscopy with a micro-area chemical analysis capability, in addition to X-ray microdiffraction, to study the microstructure changes. Concrete with CEM III cement was the most resistant to chloride ingress and therefore provided the longest period of protection against chloride-initiated corrosion. The least resistant was concrete with CEM I, for which, after two 7-day cycles of chloride migration in the electric field, steel corrosion started. The additional use of a sealing admixture can cause a local increase in the volume of pores in the concrete, and at the same time, a local weakening of the concrete structure. Concrete with CEM I was characterized as having the highest porosity at 140.537 pores, whereas concrete with CEM III (characterized by lower porosity) had 123.015 pores. Concrete with sealing admixture, with the same open porosity, had the highest number of pores, at 174.880. According to the findings of this study, and using a computed tomography method, concrete with CEM III showed the most uniform distribution of pores of different volumes, and had the lowest total number of pores. The concept of sustainable development provides for the search for environmentally friendly alternatives to traditional materials and technologies that would reduce the amount of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere, do not pollute the environment, and reduce energy costs and the cost of production processes. These technologies include the production of geopolymer concretes. The purpose of the study was a detailed in-depth analytical review of studies of the processes of structure formation and properties of geopolymer concretes in retrospect and the current state of the issue. Geopolymer concrete is a suitable, environmentally friendly and sustainable alternative to concrete based on ordinary Portland cement (OPC) with higher strength and deformation properties due to its more stable and denser aluminosilicate spatial microstructure. The properties and durability of geopolymer concretes depend on the composition of the mixture and the proportions of its components. A review of the mechanisms of structure formation, the main directions for the selection of compositions and processes of polymerization of geopolymer concretes has been made. The technologies of combined selection of the composition of geopolymer concrete, production of nanomodified geopolymer concrete, 3D printing of building structures from geopolymer concrete, and monitoring the state of structures using self-sensitive geopolymer concrete are considered. Geopolymer concrete with the optimal ratio of activator and binder has the best properties. Geopolymer concretes with partial replacement of OPC with aluminosilicate binder have a denser and more compact microstructure due to the formation of a large amount of calcium silicate hydrate, which provides improved strength, durability, less shrinkage, porosity and water absorption. An assessment of the potential reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from the production of geopolymer concrete compared to the production of OPC has been made. The PN-EN 197-1:2012 standard allows the use of additives as the main component above 5.0% by mass, as well as as a secondary component in an amount less than 5.0% by mass of cement. Proper selection of additives positively affects the rheological characteristics and hardened concrete parameters during longer maturity periods. Additives have already become an integral component of concrete mixes. The aim of the research is to confirm the possibility of using the tested additive in the composition of concrete mixes in an amount of 15% relative to the amount of cement, which would solve the problem of storing and utilizing waste generated during the production of broken chalcedonite aggregates. The planned laboratory tests were carried out for concrete of three classes, C30/37, C35/45, C40/50, according to the PN-EN 206+A1:2016-2 standard, with the addition of chalcedonite dust in a constant amount of 15% relative to cement, and three series without additives as control series. The additive used for concrete mixes was chalcedonite dust with a diameter below 72 μm. It is waste from a broken aggregate mine. The research program included rheological tests of fresh concrete mix, i.e., air content, consistency, bulk density, as well as parameters of hardened concrete mix—compressive strength, absorbability, and capillary uptake. Compressive strength was tested after 7, 14, 28, 56, and 90 days. The laboratory tests aimed to verify whether the addition of 15% chalcedonite dust additive would not worsen the predicted hardened concrete parameters resulting from the designed concrete classes. All three tested series, C30/37, C35/45, and C40/50, with the addition of 15% chalcedonite dust relative to the amount of cement, achieved the assumed strength classes after 28 days of maturation. Concrete mix components were correctly designed. The addition of chalcedonite dust to the concrete mix did not cause a decrease in compressive strength to the extent that the analyzed series did not meet the normative requirements for concrete classes according to the PN-EN 206+A1:2014 standard. The objective of this study is to explore the feasibility of using ultrasonic pulse wave measurements as an early detection method for corrosion-induced concrete damages. A series of experiments are conducted using concrete cube specimens, at a size of 200 mm, with a reinforcing steel bar (rebar) embedded in the center. The main variables include the water-to-cement ratio of the concrete (0.4, 0.5, and 0.6), the diameter of the rebar (10 mm, 13 mm, 19 mm, and 22 mm), and the corrosion level (ranging from 0% to 20% depending on rebar diameter). The impressed current technique is used to accelerate corrosion of rebars in concrete immersed in a 3% NaCl solution. Ultrasonic pulse waves are collected from the concrete specimens using a pair of 50 kHz P-wave transducers in the through-transmission configuration before and after the accelerated corrosion test. Deep learning techniques, specifically three recurrent neural network (RNN) models (long short-term memory, gated recurrent unit, and bidirectional long short-term memory), are utilized to develop a classification model for early detection of concrete damage due to rebar corrosion. The performance of the RNN models is compared to conventional ultrasonic testing parameters, namely ultrasonic pulse velocity and signal consistency. The results demonstrate that the RNN method outperforms the other two methods. Among the RNN methods, the bidirectional long short-term memory RNN model had the best performance, achieving an accuracy of 74% and a Cohen's kappa coefficient of 0.48. This study establishes the potentiality of utilizing deep learning of ultrasonic pulse waves with RNN models for early detection of concrete damage associated with steel corrosion. This research paper is the result of observations made during tests according to various standards carried out on behalf of industry. The article presents diffusion coefficient values calculated according to the thermodynamic migration model for twenty different concrete mixes and some selected mixes of the codified approaches known as ASTM 1202, NT BUILD 443, NT BUILD 492, ASTM 1556. The method used here, according to the thermodynamic model of migration, allows determination of the value of the diffusion coefficient after short studies of the migration of chloride ions into concrete and was described in earlier works by one of the authors. Unfortunately, when using standard methods, the values of diffusion coefficients differ significantly from each other. In each concrete, diffusion tests were carried out in the conditions of long-term natural diffusion to verify the values determined by standard methods and according to the thermodynamic model of migration. The analysis conducted for this research paper reveals that the chloride permeability test method according to the standard ASTM C1202-97 has an almost 2.8-fold greater dispersion of the obtained results compared to the thermodynamic model of migration. It was observed that the standard NT BUILD 492 has a 3.8-fold dispersion of results compared to the method with the thermodynamic model of migration. The most time-consuming method is the standard method NT BUILD 443. The largest 3.5-fold dispersion of values concerning the reference value are observed in that method. Moreover, a method based on a thermodynamic migration model seems to be the best option of all analyzed methods. It is a quite quick, but laborious, method that should be tested for a larger number of concrete mixes. A great advantage of this method is that it is promising for a wide range of concrete mixtures, both plain concrete and concrete with various additives and admixtures, as well as high-performance concrete. Temperature control is needed in the construction process of massive concrete and it can avoid the concrete cracks. Prediction of temperature development based on a hydration kinetics model can reduce the need for adiabatic temperature rise tests for concrete. However, the existing hydration kinetics model cannot accurately describe the hydration process of cement, thereby limiting the ability to further accurately predict the temperature rise of concrete based on the hydration kinetics model. This paper aims to establish a new hydration kinetics model, which is based on nucleation and growth model, and to predict the temperature development of concrete with set-controlling admixture based on this model. In this paper, the nucleation and growth of hydration products and the diffusion of free water by the modified boundary of nucleation and growth (BNG) model and the modified Fuji and Kondo's model are described. The relationship between nucleation rate and apparent activation energy and the relationship between effective diffusion coefficient and apparent activation energy are linear. However, the relationship between growth rate and apparent activation is exponential. Finally, the temperature development of concrete can be calculated by the hydration degree of the cement. To study the influence of mineral admixtures on concrete's mechanical properties after a low-temperature exposure, green concrete was prepared by mixing fly ash and slag at different replacement rates. By analysing the changes to concrete's mechanical properties and the damage layer thickness under different ambient temperatures (20, −10, −20, −30, and −40 °C), the change rule of concrete at low temperatures was explored. The results revealed that the compressive strength of concrete, containing either fly ash or slag, peaked at 30 °C; moreover, the slag concrete's flexural and splitting tensile strength peaked at −40 °C. The best mechanical properties were observed for a fly ash-to-slag ratio of 1:2 (F10S20; i.e., 10% fly ash and 20% slag) and its compressive strength at different temperatures was higher than that of concrete, containing 30% fly ash (F30) or 30% slag (S30), but the flexural and splitting tensile strength was lower than S30. Further, as the temperature decreased, the fly ash concrete's damaged layer thickness gradually increased. When the content of fly ash and slag were both 15% (F15S15), the damaged layer thickness was minimal at different low temperatures, especially at −30 °C, where the thickness was only 8.31 mm. Steel corrosion is major reason of the deterioration of reinforced concrete structures. Decreasing the transportation of erosion ions in concrete is one of effective methods to protect the steel from corrosion. In the present work, a novel nano-hydrophobic admixture is introduced to improve the ion-diffusion properties and the corrosion resistance of reinforced steel. Compared with unmodified concrete, the nano-hydrophobic admixture effectively decreases the water adsorption, water evaporation, and chloride ions transport in a concrete structure, and then improved the concrete's durability. The concrete's water adsorption decreased more than 78%, and the initial corrosion time of reinforced steel is prolonged more than one time by treatment with the nano-hydrophobic admixture. The inhibition penetration of the medium in concrete modified by hydrophobic nanoparticles is the key to provide the protective properties of steel reinforcement from chloride erosion. This study proposes test methods for assessing the printability of concrete materials for Additive Manufacturing. The printability of concrete is divided into three main aspects: flowability, setting time, and buildability. These properties are considered to monitor the critical quality of 3DCP and to ensure a successful print. Flowability is evaluated through a rheometer test, where the evolution of shear yield strength is monitored at a constant rate (rpm), similar to the printer setup. Flowability limits were set based on the user-defined maximum thickness of a printed layer and the onset of gaps/cracks during printing. Setting time is evaluated through an ultrasonic wave pulse velocity test (UPV), where the first inflection point of the evolution of the UPV graph corresponds to the setting time of the concrete specimen. The results from this continuous non-destructive test were found to correlate with the results from the discrete destructive ASTM C-191 test for measuring setting time with a maximum difference of 5% between both sets of values. Lastly, buildability was evaluated through the measurement of the early-age compressive strength of concrete, and a correlation with the UPV results obtained a predictive model that can be used in real-time to non-destructively assess the material buildability. This predictive model had a maximum percentage difference of 13% with the measured values. The presented article concentrates on the influence of various concrete additives in the form of fibers on the mechanical parameters of concrete so as to obtain the effect of gradual changes in these parameters, which is very important in the transition zone of the railway track. Steel, polymer and glass fibers, as well as concrete without additives, were accepted for the study. The effect of additives on the consistency of the mixture, compressive strength, frost resistance and elastic modulus was studied. The research concerned concrete samples and models of elements of the ballastless railway surface, i.e., track slab and concrete block supports. The track slab model was made of concrete without additives, while the models of supports were made both without and with additives. The studies were carried out in laboratory conditions. As a result, the tested concrete samples with various additives were ranked so that they could be used as a material for elements of the railway surface in the transition zones of engineering facilities on railway roads, which is important from the point of view of reducing the threshold effect occurring in these zones. Detailed laboratory tests were presented, the results of these studies were discussed, and final conclusions were drawn regarding the technology of materials and the methodology of constructing the transition zones of the railway surface in order to avoid or at least reduce the threshold effect existing in such zones. A promising method of obtaining mineral fiber fillers for dry building mixtures is the processing of waste that comes from the production of technogenic fibrous materials (TFM). The novelty of the work lies in the fact that, for the first time, basalt production wastes were studied not only as reinforcing components, but also as binder ones involved in concrete structure formation. The purpose of the article is to study the physical and mechanical properties of waste technogenic fibrous materials as additives for optimizing the composition of raw concrete mixes. To assess the possibility of using wastes from the complex processing of TFM that were ground for 5 and 10 min as an active mineral additive to concrete, their chemical, mineralogical, and granulometric compositions, as well as the microstructure and physical and mechanical characteristics of the created concretes, were studied. It is established that the grinding of TFM for 10 min leads to the grinding of not only fibers, but also pellets, the fragments of which are noticeable in the total mass of the substance. The presence of quartz in the amorphous phase of TFM makes it possible to synthesize low-basic calcium silicate hydrates in a targeted manner. At 90 days age, at 10–20% of the content of TFM, the strength indicators increase (above 40 MPa), and at 30% of the additive content, they approach the values of the control composition without additives (above 35 MPa). For all ages, the ratio of flexural and compressive strengths is at the level of 0.2, which characterizes a high reinforcing effect. Analysis of the results suggests the possibility of using waste milled for 10 min as an active mineral additive, as well as to give better formability to the mixture and its micro-reinforcement to obtain fiber-reinforced concrete. Finding new ways of recycling production waste to improve the characteristics of various building materials is an urgent scientific task. This article substantiates the possibility of the disposal of fly ash in the composition of soil concrete, which is used in the construction of the structural layers of road pavements, foundations of buildings and structures, as well as sites for various purposes. The scientific novelty lies in the fact that the structure formation of soil concretes based on loam and fly ash and modified with a stabilizing additive is being studied for the first time. It was found that the investigated fly ash, according to its hydraulic properties, is classified as latent active and can be introduced into the compositions of road soil concrete modified with additives of various resources. The effectiveness of the complex method of stabilization, due to changes in soil properties as a result of the use of the binding and stabilizing additives of polymer nature "Kriogelit", is shown. It was found that the optimal content of binder and fly ash in the samples was 8 and 10 wt.%, respectively. It was established that the use of the stabilizing additive "Kriogelit" makes it possible to obtain soil concrete with the highest strength (compressive strength 2.5 MPa, flexural strength 0.5 MPa) and frost resistance of at least F15. The microstructure, the degree of dehydration and carbonization, and the phase composition of the initial raw mixtures and soil concretes stabilized with the addition of "Kriogelit" were studied by methods of scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetry, and infrared spectroscopy. It was shown that organo-mineral complexes, with the participation of polymer and montmorillonite, are formed in stabilized soil concrete. It was revealed that structure formation is accompanied by the physical adsorption of the polymer on active centers of silicate minerals, carbonization, and hydration–dehydration processes. It was found that the reason for the increase in the strength of stabilized soil concretes is the hydrophobization of the porous structure of minerals, as well as the formation of calcium oxide silicate and dicalcium hydrated silicate. By the method of performing biotests with the test objects Daphnia magna Straus and Chlorella vulgaris Beijer, it was proven that the developed road concretes modified with the stabilizing additive "Kriogelit" do not have an acute toxic effect on the test objects and are safe for the environment and human health. Due to the highly explosive nature of toners, absorbers are used in toner processing plants to prevent the explosion of toner dust suspension in the air. Usually, finely divided calcite (in the form of a dust) is used. The mixture of toner-calcite is treated as waste and landfilled. The main aim of this study was to investigate the possibility of using toner-contaminated calcite as an additive to concrete. Materials originating from the toner processing plant were analyzed by using TGA, AAS, XRD, FTIR and SEM techniques. Calcite-waste toner powder mixture in amounts 0%, 1%, 5%, 10%, 15% and 20% were used to produce concrete. The results of the study showed that an increase in the amount of calcite contaminated with toner to 20% causes a decrease in compressive strength of concrete by 24–51% depending on material sample. The production and utilization of concrete and concrete-based products have drastically increased with the surge of construction activities over the last decade, especially in countries such as China and India. Consequently, this has resulted in a corresponding increase in the energy used for the production of ready-mixed concrete. One approach to reduce the cost of concrete manufacturing is to reduce the energy required for the manufacturing process. The main hypothesis of this study is that the power required for mixing the concrete can be reduced through the use of mineral admixtures in the mix design. Optimization of energy consumption during mixing using admixtures in concrete manufacturing is the predominant focus of this article. To achieve this objective, power consumption data were measured and analyzed throughout the concrete mixing process. The power consumption curve is the only source to distinguish the behavior of the different materials used in the concrete in a closed chamber. In the current research, fly ash and ground granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBS) were used as mineral admixtures to produce ready-mixed concrete. The experimental study focused on the influence of GGBS and fly ash on power consumption during concrete mixing. The results indicated that the use of a higher content of GGBS is more beneficial in comparison to the use of fly ash in the mix due to the lower mixing time required to achieve homogeneity in the mixing process. In this paper, the effects of steam curing conditions on concrete properties and microstructural characteristics are reviewed, and technical approaches such as appropriate raw material compositions and curing regimes are explored. Moreover, the environmental effects of precast concrete are evaluated. The main conclusion is that steam curing can improve the early strength of concrete, but thermal damage, shrinkage cracking, delayed ettringite formation (DEF), and other factors cause the later strength to increase more slowly or even deteriorate. Accordingly, it is necessary to undertake methods for improvement: (1) Adopt a lot of high-activity mineral admixture + a few low-activity mineral admixture combinations to ensure that the early strength of concrete meets the standard while allowing the subsequent development of concrete hydration to ensure durability. (2) Control the precuring time and temperature gradient of the concrete to allow the initial structure of the concrete to form. (3) Use effective secondary curing, such as soaking in an aqueous solution of limestone, in addition to standard curing to further improve the compactness of concrete. Moreover, the replacement of cement with less than 30% mineral admixtures in steam-cured concrete should be promoted to alleviate the environmental hazards caused by excessive CO2 emissions. The utilization of waste materials from the palm oil industry provides immense benefit to various sectors of the construction industry. Palm oil clinker is a by-product from the processing stages of palm oil goods. Channelling this waste material into the building industry helps to promote sustainability besides overcoming waste disposal problems. Environmental pollution due to inappropriate waste management system can also be drastically reduced. In this study, cement was substituted with palm oil clinker powder as a binder material in self-compacting mortar. The fresh, hardened and microstructure properties were evaluated throughout this study. In addition, sustainability component analysis was also carried out to assess the environmental impact of introducing palm oil clinker powder as a replacement material for cement. It can be inferred that approximately 3.3% of cement production can be saved by substituting palm oil clinker powder with cement. Reducing the utilization of cement through a high substitution level of this waste material will also help to reduce carbon emissions by 52%. In this study, the amount of cement used in a concrete mix is minimized to reduce the toxic effects on users by adjusting the concrete mixture contents. The reduction of cement is achieved by using various admixtures (ground granulated blast-furnace slag, flyash, ordinary Portland cement, and activated Hwangtoh powder). To apply the mix to construction, material property tests such as compressive strength, slump, and pH are performed. Preliminary experimental results showed that the Hwangtoh concrete could be used as a healthy construction material. Also, the health issues and effects of Hwangtoh mortar are quantitatively evaluated through an animal clinical test. Mice are placed in Hwangtoh mortar and cement mortar cages to record their activity. For the test, five cages are made with Hwangtoh and ordinary Portland cement mortar floors, using Hwangtoh powder replacement ratios of 20%, 40%, 60%, and 80% of the normal cement mortar mixing ratio, and two cages are made with Hwangtoh mortar living quarters. The activity parameter measurements included weight, food intake, water intake, residential space selection, breeding activity, and aggression. Palm oil fuel ash (POFA) has previously been used as a partial cement replacement in concrete. However, limited research has been undertaken to utilize POFA in high volume in concrete. This paper presents a study on the treatment and utilization of POFA in high volume of up to 50% by weight of cement in self-consolidating high strength concrete (SCHSC). POFA was treated via heat treatment to reduce the content of unburned carbon. Ordinary Portland cement was substituted with 0%, 10%, 20%, 30%, and 50% treated POFA in SCHSC. Tests have been conducted on the fresh properties, such as filling ability, passing ability and segregation resistance, as well as compressive strength, drying shrinkage and acid attack resistance to check the effect of high volume treated POFA on SCHSC. The results revealed that compared to the control concrete mix, the fresh properties, compressive strength, drying shrinkage, and resistance against acid attack have been significantly improved. Deposition of chloride ions in the surface layer of concrete is investigated in this study. In real concrete structure, chloride ions from the service environment can penetrate into concrete and deposit in the surface layer, to form the boundary condition for further diffusion towards the interior. The deposit amount of chloride ions in the surface layer is normally a function of time, rather than a constant. In the experimental investigation, concrete specimens with different mix proportions are immersed in NaCl solution with a mass concentration of 5%, to simulate the shallow immersion condition in sea water, and the surface chloride concentrations are measured at different ages. It is found that the surface chloride concentration increases following the increasing immersion durations, and varies from a weight percentage of 0.161%-0.781% in concretes with different mix proportions. The w/c (water-to-cement ratio) influences the surface chloride concentration significantly, and the higher the w/c is, the higher the surface chloride concentration will be, at the same age. However, following the prolonging of immersion duration, the difference in surface chloride concentration induced by w/c becomes smaller and smaller. The replacement of natural aggregates by recycled aggregates in the concrete manufacturing has been spreading worldwide as a recycling method to counteract the large amount of construction and demolition waste. Although legislation in this field is still not well developed, many investigations demonstrate the possibilities of success of this trend given that concrete with satisfactory mechanical and durability properties could be achieved. However, recycled aggregates present a low quality compared to natural aggregates, the water absorption being their main drawback. When used untreated in concrete mix, the recycled aggregate absorb part of the water initially calculated for the cement hydration, which will adversely affect some characteristics of the recycled concrete. This article seeks to demonstrate that the technique of pre-saturation is able to solve the aforementioned problem. In order to do so, the water absorption of the aggregates was tested to determine the necessary period of soaking to bring the recycled aggregates into a state of suitable humidity for their incorporation into the mixture. Moreover, several concrete mixes were made with different replacement percentages of natural aggregate and various periods of pre-saturation. Over the vast Northwest China, arid desert contains high concentrations of sulfate, chloride, and other chemicals in the ground water, which poses serious challenges to infrastructure construction that routinely utilizes portland cement concrete. Comprehensive chemical, mechanical, and durability tests were conducted in the laboratory to characterize the properties of the local cementitious mineral admixtures, cement mortar and portland cement concrete mixtures containing these admixtures. The results from this study indicated that the sulfate resistance of concrete was effectively improved by adding local class F fly ash and slag, or by applying sulfate resistance cement to the mixtures. It is noteworthy that concrete containing local mineral admixtures exhibited much lower permeability (in terms of chloride ion penetration) than ordinary portland cement concrete while retaining the same mechanical properties; whereas concrete mixtures made with sulfate resistance cement had significantly reduced strength and much increased chloride penetration comparing to the other mixtures. Hence, the use of local mineral admixtures in Northwest China in concrete mixtures would be beneficial to the performance of concrete, as well as to the protection of environment. The influence of a chloride-ion adsorption agent (Cl agent in short), composed of zeolite, calcium aluminate hydrate and calcium nitrite, on the ingress of chloride ions into concrete and mortar has been experimentally studied. The permeability of concrete was measured, and the chloride ion content in mortar was tested. The experimental results reveal that the Cl agent could adsorb chloride ions effectively, which had penetrated into concrete and mortar. When the Cl agent was used at a dosage of 6% by mass of cementitious materials in mortar, the resistance to the penetration of chloride ions could be improved greatly, which was more pronounced when a combination of the Cl agent and fly ash or slag was employed. Such an effect is not the result of the low permeability of the mortar, but might be a result of the interaction between the Cl agent and the chloride ions penetrated into the mortar. There are two possible mechanisms for the interaction between the Cl agent and chloride ion ingress. One is the reaction between calcium aluminate hydrate in the Cl agent and chloride ions to form Friedel's salt, and the other one is that calcium aluminate hydrate reacts with calcium nitrite to form AFm during the early-age hydration of mortar and later the NO2 - in AFm is replaced by chloride ions, which then penetrate into the mortar, also forming Friedel's salt. In this study, basalt, which is common around Diyarbakır province (Turkey), is used as concrete aggregate, waste materials as mineral additives and Portland cement as binding material to prepare concrete mixes. This paper aims to determine the proper admixture levels and usability of Diyarbakır basalt in concrete mixtures based on mechanical, physical and chemical tests. Thus, in order to determine the strength and durability performance of concrete mixtures with Diyarbakır basalt as aggregate, 72 sample cubes of 150 mm were prepared in three groups: mineral-free admixture (MFA), 10% of cement amount substituted for silica fume (SFS) and 20% for fly ash (FAS) as waste material. The samples were exposed to water curing and 100g/L sulphate solution to determine the loss in weight of the concrete cubes and compressive strength was examined at the end of 7, 28 and 360 days of the specimens. Analysis of the microstructure and cracks that influence durability, were also performed to determine effects of sulphate attacks alkali-silica reactions on the specimens using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The properties of cement concrete using waste materials—namely, recycled cement mortar, fly ash–slag, and recycled concrete aggregate—are presented. A treatment process for waste materials is proposed. Two research experiments were conducted. In the first, concretes were made with fly ash–slag mix (FAS) and recycled cement mortar (RCM) as additions. The most favorable content of the concrete additive in the form of RCM and FAS was determined experimentally, and their influence on the physical and mechanical properties of concrete was established. For this purpose, 10 test series were carried out according to the experimental plan. In the second study, concretes containing FAS–RCM and recycled concrete aggregate (RCA) as a 30% replacement of natural aggregate (NA) were prepared. The compressive strength, frost resistance, water absorption, volume density, thermal conductivity, and microstructure were researched. The test results show that the addition of FAS–RCM and RCA can produce composites with better physical and mechanical properties compared with concrete made only of natural raw materials and cement. The detailed results show that FAS–RCM can be a valuable substitute for cement and RCA as a replacement for natural aggregates. Compared with traditional cement concretes, concretes made of FAS, RCM, and RCA are characterized by a higher compressive strength: 7% higher in the case of 30% replacement of NA by RCA with the additional use of the innovative FAS–RCM additive as 30% of the cement mass. With the rapid development of urbanization, many new buildings are erected, and old ones are demolished and/or recycled. Thus, the reuse of building materials and improvements in reuse efficiency have become hot research topics. In recent years, scholars around the world have worked on improving recycle aggregates in concrete and broadening the scope of applications of recycled concrete. This paper reviews the findings of research on the effects of recycled fine aggregates (RFAs) on the permeability, drying shrinkage, carbonation, chloride ion penetration, acid resistance, and freeze–thaw resistance of concrete. The results show that the content of old mortar and the quality of recycled concrete are closely related to the durability of prepared RFA concrete. For example, the drying shrinkage value with a 100% RFA replacement rate is twice that of normal concrete, and the depth of carbonation increases by approximately 110%. Moreover, the durability of RFA concrete decreases as the RFA replacement rate and the water–cement ratio improve. Fortunately, the use of zeolite materials such as fly ash, silica fume, and meta kaolin as surface coatings for RFAs or as external admixtures for RFA concrete had a positive effect on durability. This study examined the mechanical and durability properties of CaO-activated ground-granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBFS) concretes made with three different additives (CaCl2, Ca(HCOO)2, and Ca(NO3)2) and compared their properties to the concrete made with 100% Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC). All concrete mixtures satisfied targeted air content and slump ranges but exhibited significantly different mechanical and durability properties. The CaO-activated GGBFS concretes showed different strength levels, depending on the type of additive. The added CaCl2 was the most effective, but Ca(NO3)2 was the least effective at increasing mechanical strength in the CaO-activated GGBFS system. The OPC concrete showed the most excellent freezing–thawing resistance in the durability test, but only the CaO-activated GGBFS concrete with CaCl2 exhibited relatively similar resistance. In addition, the chemical resistance was significantly dependent on the type of acid solution and the type of binder. The OPC concrete had the best resistance in the HCl solution, while all CaO-activated GGBFS concretes had relatively low resistances. However, in the H2SO4 solution, all CaO-activated GGBFS concretes had better resistance than the OPC concrete. All concrete with sulfate ions had ettringite before immersion. However, when they were immersed in HCl solution, ettringite tended to decrease, and gypsum was generated. Meanwhile, the CaO-activated GGBFS concrete with CaCl2 did not change the type of reaction product, possibly due to the absence of ettringite and Ca(OH)2. When immersed in an H2SO4 solution, ettringite decreased, and gypsum increased in all concrete. In addition, the CaO-activated concrete with CaCl2 had a considerable amount of gypsum; it seemed that the dissolved C-S-H and calcite, due to the low pH, likely produced Ca2+ ions, and gypsum formed from the reaction between Ca2+ and H2SO4. Lignosulfonates (LS) are products from the sulfite pulping process that could be applied as renewable environmentally-friendly polymeric surfactants. Being widely used as plasticizers and water-reducing admixtures in concrete formulations LS compete in the market with petroleum-based superplasticizers, such as naphthalene sulfonate formaldehyde polycondensate (NSF) and copolymer polycarboxylate ethers (PCE). In this work, different chemical modification strategies were used to improve LS performance as dispersants for concrete formulations. One strategy consisted in increasing the molecular weight of LS through different approaches, such as laccase and polyoxometalate-mediated polymerization, glyoxalation, and reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization. The other strategy consisted of preparing LS-based non-ionic polymeric dispersants using two different epoxidized oligomer derivatives of poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) and poly(propylene glycol) (PPG). Modified LS were used to prepare cement pastes, which were examined for their fluidity. Results revealed that the most promising products are PPG-modified LS due to the introduction of PPG chains by reaction with phenolic moieties in LS. The enhanced dispersant efficiency of the ensuing products is probably related not only to electrostatic repulsion caused by the sulfonic ionizable groups in LS but also to steric hindrance phenomena due to the grafted bulky PPG chains. A hypothesis was put forward that a nano-modifying additive of micro silica, which had a beneficial effect on achieving a perfect structure of heavy concrete, can also be effectively used in lightweight fiber-reinforced concrete. The nano-modifying additives of micro silica application in manufacturing lightweight fiber reinforced concrete products and structures can significantly enchain their strength characteristics without increasing their mass and consequently improve their design characteristics. The purpose of the work was to increase the structural quality coefficients for all types of strengths of lightweight fiber-reinforced concrete due to its modification with micro silica. The effect of nano-modifying additives of micro silica on the strength characteristics of lightweight fiber reinforced concrete was studied. The optimal amount of micro silica addition was experimentally confirmed and established of 10% of the cement mass. The coefficients of constructive quality for all experimentally determined strength characteristics of lightweight fiber-reinforced concrete modified with micro silica additives were calculated. The coefficient of constructive quality for tensile strength in bending of lightweight fiber reinforced concrete with additives was two and a half times higher than that of heavy concrete without additives and up to 37% higher than that of lightweight fiber-reinforced concrete without additives. This study was conducted to investigate the effect of ground granulated blast furnace slag on the structural performance of precast concrete beams, evaluating the flexural, shear and bonding performance by using the replacement ratio of the ground granulated blast furnace slag as a variable. The design strength of the concrete was set at 45 MPa in consideration of the characteristics of precast concrete products, and the replacement ratio of the ground granulated blast furnace slag to replace cement was 30 to 70%. The experimental results showed that all specimens had similar behavioral characteristics regardless of the replacement ratio of the ground granulated blast furnace slag. Comparison of the prediction results obtained by ACI 318-19 and EC 2 showed that the mean flexural strength and shear strength were higher than 1.19 and 1.43, respectively, and the mean bond strength was 1.57, satisfying the required performance. Therefore, the experimental results showed that in using the ground granulated blast furnace slag as an admixture for precast concrete, the cement replacement ratio may be increased up to 70% without causing any problems in securing the structural performance. This article analyses the possibility of using fly ash from the combustion of wood–sunflower biomass in a fluidized bed boiler as an additive to concrete. The research shows that fly ash applied in an amount of 10–30% can be added as a sand substitute for the production of concrete, without reducing quality (compression strength and low-temperature resistance) compared to control concrete. The 28-day compressive strength of concrete with fly ash increases with the amount of ash added (up to 30%), giving a strength 28% higher than the control concrete sample. The addition of fly ash reduces the extent to which the compression strength of concrete is lowered after low-temperature resistance tests by 22–82%. The addition of fly ash in the range of 10–30% causes a slight increase in the water absorption of concrete. Concretes containing the addition of fly ash from biomass combustion do not have a negative environmental impact with respect to the leaching of heavy metal ions into the environment. The modern types of concrete are a mixture of aggregates, cement, water and optional additives and admixtures. In particular, polymer additives seem to be a promising type of component that can significantly change concrete and mortar properties. Currently, the most popular polymer additives include superplasticizers, latexes and redispersible powders. Moreover, in order to improve the properties of concrete-based composite admixtures, which enhance the resistance to cracking, polymer fibres and recycled polymers have been researched. All the types of polymeric materials mentioned above are broadly used in the construction industry. This work summarizes the current knowledge on the different types of popular polymeric additives.
